What happens when following Jesus doesn't look like what you signed up for? In this message, guest speaker Jeff Stemple picks up where last week's sermon left off — right at the moment in Matthew 16 where Jesus begins speaking plainly about suffering, rejection, and death, leaving his disciples confused, disappointed, and wrestling with their faith. From there, Jeff walks us into one of the most breathtaking moments in all of Scripture: the Transfiguration. In Matthew 17, just six days after that difficult conversation, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain — and what they witness there is God's direct answer to their confusion and disillusionment. His face shining like the sun, Moses and Elijah present, and a voice from heaven declaring the same words spoken at Jesus' baptism — with one powerful addition: Listen to him. That command is the heartbeat of this message. When the disciples were struggling most, God didn't offer an explanation. He gave a command. And that command still stands for us today.Jeff unpacks three ways we can get to a place of genuine, obedient listening: seeing Jesus for who he truly is (not merely who we want him to be), resisting our desire to control and manage our circumstances, and following Jesus back down the mountain into the ordinary obedience of everyday life.If you've ever felt disillusioned in your faith — like the experience isn't matching the advertisement — this message is for you.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Jesus imparts profound lessons to His disciples about what it truly means to follow Him. In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 11, verses 28-30, He extends a heartfelt invitation, saying, "Come to Me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." We invite you to join us as we explore the teachings of Christ and delve into the rich insights He shared with His disciples. Let's embark on this journey of understanding together.
#bible #biblia #Jesus #JesusChrist #discipleshipjourney #truthseekers Ric and Mary delve into what Christ instructed His disciples to do. He first came to teach and preach, and then He instructed them to do the same. If we are to be true disciples of Christ, we must learn to rightly divide His work, learn from what His Word says, and then replicate what He has called all disciples of Christ to do. Are we under God's government or the world's? This is a question we all need to ask ourselves.

Our discussion discusses the call of Matthew, a Levite who was not walking in the call of his tribe, which was to serve the priests and teach people the Bible truths. Instead, he chose to serve the Romans. Jesus called Matthew, and He left his job with the Romans collecting taxes. Matthew holds a dinner with many sinners and tax collectors who were trying to follow Jesus too. (Mark) Some Pharisees protest his eating with sinners. Jesus begins to teach the people at the dinner that God wants compassion and mercy. The study unfolds and is surprising to many of the men. One man who does study the Bible on his own said, "This is the best Bible study I have seen in a long time." Please note that our worship is from Hosea Chapter 6I hope you enjoy it. In this episode, I got to talk with Dr. Stephen Carlson. Dr. Carlson is the Associate Professor in Biblical and Early Christian Studies at the Australian Catholic University. He is the author of three books including The Gospel Hoax, The Text of Galatians and its History, and Papias of Hierapolis. He is also the author of many peer reviewed journal articles. Dr. Stephen Carlson and I did a podcast episode in April on why we should trust our Bible translations. In this discussion we talked about the Book of Enoch, an ancient text that claims to have been written by Enoch (prior to the flood). We also talked about the Nephilim (in Genesis 6) and fallen angels (in the Book of Enoch) - who they are and how we should interpret the Bible verses that talk about them. We finally talked about how the 66 books in the Bible, and more specifically, the 27 books in the New Testament, were chosen. In this sermon, part of our Books of the Bible Series, we dig into the Book of Esther. Esther is a dramatic story about God working in the lives of His people from behind the scenes in the most unlikely people, in the most places. It is a story of courage and faith. While this is the only book in the Bible that does not actually talk about God, it has a clear agenda to teach people about God and His plan. Ultimately, through Esther, the Messianic line from Abraham, Moses, to David is preserved. God's hand is all over this story. Like Esther, we live in a superpower country. And like Esther, we are each called by God to lead in times such as these. There is a purpose far bigger than we could imagine on our own. God is always speaking to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let's find God in the coincidences of our world and look forward to where God is leading us.
Fr. Mike focuses on the book of Tobit today and explains why this beautiful book is missing from non-Catholic Bibles. He dives into the history behind the arrangement of the Bible, and why the Catholic Bible includes 73 books. Todays's readings are Isaiah 3-4, Tobit 3-4, and Proverbs 9:13-18. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
