Nick Landry had a thought 5 years ago: to run a 100-mile ultra event. We have Nick back on our show tonight because he has accomplished that goal. We discuss the training, the mental and physical stresses placed on the body, and the run itself. The highs and lows of such a grueling event can be overwhelming but Nick was up to the task. Doing much better than he even thought possible, Nick crushed the Capes 100 course. This is a very inspiring story and reminds us that the mind and body can do amazing things with the right mindset and proper training. Nick writes a wonderful blog about his run at Capes and it made me feel as if I was there. The link is below in the show notes and I would encourage everyone listening to this podcast to go read his blog post. Keep up the great work Nick.Link to Nicks fantastic blog:https://hubcitymiles.blogspot.com/2023/08/capes-100-journey-to-100-miles.html?fbclid=IwAR2f42sw67ILRGXpswSXC_c3uR8WcHrc59O7lOcs04Op3F8dYyrwRKOL_GUMotivate to Move email, let us know who we should have on the show:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comOur Facebook page, come check us out:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495As always, please give the gift of life and donate blood today.
Tonight our very special guests and two wonderful young ladies, Carrie Gregory and her sister Sandra Cottreau. These ladies stay very active and are highly motivated. It wasn't a surprise to find out that their entire family stays very active, they have all run Boston and this year mom plus daughters Carrie and Sandra are running Boston together. I met Carrie while she was pacing her first marathon in PEI in October 2022. We had a great chat and I just knew we had to have her on our podcast. Carrie brought her sister Sandra to the podcast recording. We found out that Sandra won the marathon in PEI in 2022 on the lady's side, a fantastic achievement. The sisters chat with us about the importance of strength training and going to the gym. How much that helped them improve their times on the courses. We get into the friendly sibling rivalry they have with one another and how they push each other to achieve their goals. A fantastic conversation with 2 wonderful people and we are sure you will not want to miss this episode. It's possible after listening to their future goals you may want to put on a pair of running shoes and go for a run. Also in this episode at the beginning, we announce the two winners of our contest. we thank everyone that entered and we want to congratulate Nick Landry and Michelle Brenton, congratulations!!!If you would like to be a Pace bunny like Carrie here is the Facebook page:True North Pacing: https://www.facebook.com/TrueNorthPacingOur email if you would like to contact us: motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comPlease don't forget to give the gift of life, donate blood today.

In the second part of our discussion with Nick, we talk about what he used for nutrition during his 88km Ultra race. Nick tells us some very surprising things that he ate during the run and what he tells us was very interesting. We talk about what Coca-Cola did for Nick and how he feels about it. Nick tells our listeners a very compelling story about everything that happened to him during his 88Km ultra race, good and bad. Steep Mountain aptly named is one of the big challenges and Nick takes all of them on. After a mental rest, Nick goes back out and destroys the course and finishes very strong. We know Nick has many more Ultra runs left to run and we can't wait to hear more, go get 'em Nick. Link to Nick's blog, an excellent read: https://hubcitymiles.blogspot.com/2022/08/capes-100-halfway-to-buckle.html?fbclid=IwAR1FPwlFbTl2c7rU6_uqUe413dRuzG3XUO2rjDazKizbVoMrxjauXNiirBc
We welcome Nick laundry back to our podcast this evening. Nick had just completed his first 88Km Ultra trail run at Capes 100. An amazing achievement and we ask him to describe his adventure for us. So many runs have been deferred to this year and Capes was one of those runs. Also deferred to this year were the Fredericton marathon and Keji's backyard Ultra. A great deal of training, running and Km for Nick this year. Nick does a great job telling his story and we can't wait to have Nick on again, because we know what he is planning on doing next. Great job Nick, way to kick butt. A link to Nick's race report for his 88 Km race at Capes, a wonderful read, everyone should check it out. https://hubcitymiles.blogspot.com/2022/08/capes-100-halfway-to-buckle.html?fbclid=IwAR1FPwlFbTl2c7rU6_uqUe413dRuzG3XUO2rjDazKizbVoMrxjauXNiirBcI have a fundraiser page for my upcoming running adventure to the Canadian Cancer Society and the link is here if you would like to donate. This episode was recorded before we knew that the Saint John Marathon by the Sea has been cancelled permanently after 27 years, a sad day indeed. Low runner turnout, higher costs and a lack of volunteers were some of the reasons given. There is a lot of work put into these races and if you are losing money and not getting the results you want it makes sense. Danny and Nick are here to talk about Legs for Literacy this year in Moncton as well as all the changes they have made and all the work that has gone into this race. I have to say it sounds fantastic and after all, we have been through a nice race would be wonderful. We hope everyone gets involved somehow, running or perhaps being a volunteer, maybe even putting your own relay team together. Anything to not let Legs for Literacy go the way of the Dodo bird and become extinct. So we hope you enjoy these changes and we hope you get involved. We are posting many links below so you can get in contact with Legs or sign up or just check out the bling, see you in October. Here is the link to Race Roster - where people can enter the race and sign up as volunteers:https://raceroster.com/events/2022/57974/legs-for-literacy-presented-by-medavie?fbclid=IwAR2FEh6oVa86B0pVZRM5UpQ6iAt2J-aV6LVGUPDDMsuhFMD519SqW0c9E8YHere is the link to the L4L website where people can apply to be considered for literacy funding: https://www.legsforliteracy.com/?fbclid=IwAR1Yn25RzuFpTSsqBvd0iKxpiZuRc0GgiUfB94xH2_M4B-dN9Hui4Su-d_EHere you can check out the routes for this year's Legs for Literacy race plus the number of participants and so much more: https://www.facebook.com/LegsforLiteracyCourirPourLireAnd the Legs for Literacy Email: info@legsforliteracy.comThe link to our Motivate to Move Facebook page: come check us out. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495Lastly, as many of you know I am attempting a 161 KM run this Fall. So I have started up a fundraiser for the run with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. In this episode, Nick Landry fully embraces vulnerability and authenticity as he opens up and shares his life experience living on the autism spectrum. Nick is an incredible human, a top notch educator and a passionate sports enthusiast. He leads with love, compassion, dedication, and a work ethic that is unmatched. One conversation with Nick and you'd think life never handed him any lemons. But that's not the case. Living with autism spectrum disorder and not being officially diagnosed until 6th grade came with many challenges. Being bullied, learning how to manage impulses, and feeling left out while growing up led to some of the hardest times in Nick's life. However, Nick's experiences, both good and bad, have shaped him to be the outstanding person he is today. Nick never let living on the autism spectrum get in the way of his own success. Nick is a true inspiration when it comes to understanding yourself, loving yourself, never quitting, and following your dreams and passions no matter what life throws at you. Nick Landry started out playing Hockey in the Winter and Soccer in the Summer . He had big dreams and like so many of us maybe lost his way somewhat once he was a little older . As chance would have it Nick inherited a 5 Km race bib and he was off . Listen to Nicks great story about how seeing his dad complete his first marathon that he knew it was time to take up the challenge for himself . Plus Nick talks about Ultras and some other very interesting runs he has planned for the near future . Covid didn't slow Nick either , he took part in some cool virtual running as well . You will love this episode .

My colleague, Nick Landry, and I are both pretty into home automation using INSTEON.
