An autism diagnosis in his 30s rocked the world of radio host Brant Hansen. Brant gets real about the social and faith-related challenges of life on the spectrum—as well as practical ways to embrace anyone living with autism. There wasn't a name for it. My mom just knew I was different. Actually, when I got diagnosed as an adult, it was explanatory to her, and she said, “Oh, that explains this. That explains that. That explains a lot of good things, like why you would compile information like you did about everything, and how you struggled with relationships; why you didn't date.” She always loved me, you know? Undiagnosed autism in females refers to a significant yet often overlooked phenomenon where girls and women with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) go undetected or misdiagnosed. Historically, ASD has been primarily associated with males, leading to a gender bias in diagnosis and research. Females with autism often exhibit subtler, less stereotypical symptoms, making their condition harder to recognize. They may camouflage or mimic social behaviors, leading to a delayed or missed diagnosis. Undiagnosed autism in females can result in various challenges, including difficulties with social interaction, sensory processing, and mental health. Increasing awareness, understanding, and tailored diagnostic approaches are crucial for identifying and supporting these undiagnosed individuals effectively. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are not yet known. Scientists believe there are multiple causes of ASD that act together to change the most common ways people develop. We still have much to learn about these causes and how they impact people with ASD.

This week is a very special episode of Leaning Right And Turning Left, where Hermie and Senator Stanley have a very frank and emotional conversation about Autism from the parents' perspective. Mandi Calhoun and Hermie's wife Angie Sadler join Bill and Hermie to discuss both the challenges and triumphs of raising children with Autism. Listen as they have an honest and open discussion on their respective family's experiences raising their children, their struggles in dealing with a public educational system that (more often than not) fails parents with special needs children, and how parents can work together to change the system and ensure that their children can flourish—thereby giving them the best chance to lead wonderful, safe and productive lives as they grow into adulthood. Mandi and the group also discuss her efforts both to help parents through the challenges of raising their children, as well as to educate the special needs educators about current autism issues through her incredible organization F.E.A.T (“Families Embracing Autism Together”) – and, how you the audience member can get involved in and support this very important and special charitable organization. In Senator Stanley's “Leaning Right Moment,” Bill and Hermie discuss three “quick hit” topics of the current goings-on in Virginia politics: the brewing debate over Governor Youngkin's significant “parents first” revision of the previous Northam administration's radical policy concerning transgender students in the public school system; the Democrat Leader in the House of Delegates ridiculously asserting in an Op-Ed that Republicans are an extreme “threat to public safety” because they believe in the 2nd Amendment; and, Sadler and the Senator even explore the recent headline-making physical altercation between two Republican Delegates from the Senator's region who are both vying for the same seat in 2023 (that has now resulted in pending criminal charges being taken out by one against the other), and whether anyone wins when political altercations like these are determined in the courtroom rather than in the voting booth. In Hermie Sadler's “Turning Left Moment,” the boys discuss the debacle of a race at Texas Motor Speedway, the current state of the Sadler/Stanley Racing Team, and speculate as to whether or not the remnants of Hurricane Ian will affect their upcoming race at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford this weekend. And hey, one of the best parts about this episode is that the boys' side-kick, their favorite “plus one,” and the infamous Party Time DJ Shep “Burn-Pile” Moss is back in studio with Sadler and the Senator, and he is ready to Drop the Beat and Light the Fire to all the current topics discussed in today's opening segment! The Leaning Right and Turning Left With Sadler and The Senator is proudly sponsored by Pace-O-Matic, an entertainment company which develops gaming software that players love to play and can use their skills to win, every time. Pace-O-Matic is focused on people having fun, the small businesses that love them, and generates millions of dollars in Virginia. Their skill games are played in restaurants, bars and convenience stores all across Virginia, and the revenues from these games help these family-owned businesses thrive. In this episode of The Life Teacher Podcast, Hector welcomes J.R. Reed. J.R. was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome later in life. The prolonged wait to start diagnosing individuals with autism caused J.R. to experience bullying at a young age by not only his peers, but the educators that were entrusted for his education and well-being. After his diagnosis, J.R. set out to do a few things: To educate people on both sides of the spectrum by fostering meaningful conversations and to help those on the spectrum feel better about themselves and lead happier lives. J.R. and Hector have a meaningful conversation about what its like to live with autism and even go on a tangent to discuss Sheldon Cooper's character on The Big Bang Theory on the character's perceived Asperger's.

Erik Raschke puts parenting first and foremost. He is the father of 3 children and the oldest has severe autism. Two years ago he moved from Amsterdam to New Jersey so his 12 year old autistic son could receive a better education. If they stayed in the Netherlands, his future was a group home, but in NJ he has a shot at independence. Today, his son is learning and getting an education and it is truly amazing. Erik wrote a book, To The Mountain, inspired by his own experiences as a father of a boy with autism. Erik wanted his son to begin answering autism related questions because language is a huge challenge for him. His son was up for the task and joined us for the conversation! To find out more about Erik and his book you can visit www.erikraschke.com. To apply for a complimentary call, email me -kristjanahillberg@gmail.com or sign up here.
