Endgame 2050 Description: What will the future be like in the year 2050? A mere three decades away, most of us hope to still be around. So, what kind of future are we riding into? ENDGAME 2050 gives us a glimpse into that future, and it does not look good. Humanity has backed itself into an ecological endgame as we approach mid-century. Featuring musician Moby along with leading scientists, ENDGAME 2050 lays out the reality that, unless we act urgently now, we are hastening our own destruction. Dr. Sofia Pineda Ochoa statement: I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. I attended medical school there and, as a student, my dream was to help people as a doctor. I devoted a full decade of my life for medical training in that pursuit. Over time, however, my perspective changed on what I believe is most urgent. I have come to understand that humans - myself included - are literally destroying the planet on which we live. Humanity is not only making the planet uninhabitable for human civilization, but also for countless other species with whom we share this world. I believe this is a crime like no other and feel a deep sense of concern, in particular, for all the other animals who are being decimated by human activities. I made ENDGAME 2050 because I want people to wake up to the gravity of the situation before it's too late. I think many environmental films sugarcoat our reality and the extent of changes needed. They sometimes don't want to make people too uncomfortable. But I think that does a grave disservice to the audience and the planet. I wanted this film to clearly lay out the dire situation in which we now find ourselves, and the responsibility for these global problems that we all bear. I think we owe it to the planet, other species, and ourselves to not bury our heads in the sand. Today, everyone knows what plant-based meat is and chances are they’ve at least tried it. In many ways, those people have Seth Tibbott to thank. Seth, who in 1980 founded Turtle Island Foods (maker of the iconic Tofurky brand) and served as its CEO for more than three decades, is now releasing his autobiography: In Search of the Wild Tofurky: How a Business Misfit Pioneered Plant-Based Foods Before They Were Cool. Rest assured that if you’re interested in entrepreneurialism to save the world, this is the perfect book to read while sheltering in place during a global pandemic. In the book, Seth tells the tale of how ill-prepared he, as a hippie-turned-entrepreneur, was to run a business when he started out. In fact, the company remained unprofitable for more than 15 years until finally turning out new products that helped to pave the way for the explosion of plant-based meat popularity we’re experiencing today. So take a moment while social distancing and listen to Seth’s inspirational story of repeated (and repeated) business failures, followed by enormous success, both financial and social. After listening to his tale here, you’ll surely want to order his new book! Discussed in this episode Books: Diet for a Small Planet, Shoe Dog, Eating Animals, and Stephen Gaskin’s works Philip Wollen speech on animals Wild Wild Country on Netflix The Guardian on Eddie the pitbull’s foster-to-adoption story Paul Shapiro’s column in Scientific American about pandemics and raising animals for food

This episode’s guests are Natalie and Stuart McIntosh. Stuart and Natalie (also known as Jai Ma), created the documentary “Serving Love”, an excellent movie sharing the stories of people who have experienced the profound health benefits of following a high raw plant based lifestyle, including overcoming cancer, illness and depression, whilst also developing new loving and healthy relationships with people, nature and life itself. The movie also features interviews with Dr Michael Klaper, Dr Malcolm Mackay, philanthropist Philip Wollen, ultramarathoners Janette Murray-Wakelin and Alan Murray, and Yoko from Shoko Iku, as well as Natalie and Stuart. After watching the documentary, I simply had to interview them for the podcast. I was warmly welcomed to their beautiful farm in Beaconsfield, Victoria, where apart from our conversation I was able to see the diverse array of organic fruit and vegetables they grow there. Given the movie is mostly about raw wholefood plant-based eating, you will likely expect that to be the predominant topic. Yet early in this podcast Natalie courageously tells us the story of her depression and how she suffered with it, her attempted suicide, her feeling that this was actually a call to God for help and her subsequent journey from depression to wellness. Natalie and Stuart then go on to speak about: The empowering shift Natalie noticed after seeking help and spiritual guidance How her depression recurred despite this What Stuart noticed about how the antidepressants were affecting Natalie The efforts they took to help Natalie discontinue her antidepressants once her mental health came under control Natalie’s subsequent call to nature and to eating fresh real food How this progressed to both Stuart and Natalie deciding not to eat animal foods Some of the people who have guided them both spiritually Their realization many of us live unconsciously through our psychological minds The difficulties with believing we are in control of what is happening The benefits of letting go and simply being aware to become more fulfilled The benefits of seeing life as a Guru itself How the right spiritual teacher is someone you resonate with How they came to make their documentary Serving Love Some advice about eating more raw food as part of a wholefood plant-based diet Listening to the podcast may be confronting for you. If you feel you need help, please contact your national 24-hour crisis counseling service. Australian listeners can go to www.lifeline.org.au or www.beyondblue.org.au. After the interview, I tell you how I have been going with some of the recent challenges I've mentioned on the show, and I also discuss a couple of scientific papers you might value hearing about or even reading yourself, particularly if you have or know someone with depression. Please enjoy listening to Natalie and Stuart; two of the most kind, caring and loving beings I’ve ever met. Live well, feel well, do well.
