Series: Better: How to Win at Home Week Five: 10/02/2022 Title: Power Circles Bible: Multiple Verses 3 John 1:4 (NLT) 4 I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth. Everyone Needs a Circle Proverbs 13:20 (NLT) 20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. A Better Circle Provides a Better Experience Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 12 (NLT) 9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 – 15 (NLT) 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. The Circle Needs to Challenge Them Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) 17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Galatians 6:2 (NLT) 2 Share each other's burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Proverbs 19:20 (NLT) 20 Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life. Who do you need to let know that you are thankful for them being in your circle or the circle of your child(ren)?
On today's episode, Molly sits down with her close friend Michelle Garside. Michelle begins the conversation by disclosing her journey through her eating disorder. She begins by discussing her experience with pregnancy and postpartum eating disorders and the struggles that come with it. Molly and Michelle dig into the thoughts that can creep in while struggling with eating disorders and relate to each other's experiences. Family roots run deep, and Michelle acknowledges her family history related to eating disorders, body image, and how she has grown the most due to her mother's mental illness. Michelle started eating in secret at a very young age mimicking some of what she observed at home. She discusses the repercussions of this on her childhood, and how it then impacted her teenage years. After researching eating disorders on the internet in high school, she taught herself how to become anorexic which brought on many health problems for Michelle. This led to her being bulimic for 15 years. After coming home from studying abroad in Australia, Michelle was diagnosed with several addictions in a hospital then headed to rehab. She went to OA and found it comforting for her and found “her people” there. In 2015, she began dating again and met her now husband, Eric, who would change her perspective of her addiction for the rest of her life. Tune in to hear the details of how Michelle lived with her eating disorder, what the days to recovery looked like and how she continues to grow after being abstinent from bulimia. Episode Quotes “Life, people, things…are complex.” -Michelle Garside “I'm hyper vigilant that nobody's going to bully me, let me bully me first.” -Molly Carmel “I am not alone in my eating disorder” -Michelle Garside Key Highlights Coping with the difficulties that can come with postpartum weight gain Family history connections to eating disorders Details of Michelle's specific journey through bulimia and the struggles she faced while in the middle of it How Michelle was able to find healing and recovery from OA Want to spend MORE time together? In this interview, I am excited to share a deeply personal and reflective conversation with Amber Lilyestrom, a transformational branding and business strategist, writer, speaker and host of The Soul Fueled CEO Podcast. Amber has also been a coach and champion for me as I’ve created Mother’s Quest and leads a community of soul-fueled CEO’s that has become an important source of support. From the moment she answers my first question, you will experience how Amber brings this combination of simultaneous vulnerability and crystal clarity. She brings those gifts along with her own trial and error experiences as an entrepreneur and mother to help visionaries, leaders and what she calls “disruptivators” turn their passions into heart-centered brands and thriving businesses. It was the birth of her daughter, and becoming a mother, that caused her to proactively design her life and business after working for 10 years in collegiate athletics marketing for her alma mater, the University of New Hampshire. And, it is her desire to seize life, new experiences and new opportunities that led her to become Mrs. New Hampshire 2016. In our conversation, Amber shares how speaking our truth allows us to live joy-filled lives. She opens up about her traumatic experience as a childhood survivor of sexual abuse, how that event shaped her relationship with her mother, and how it also shaped her own journey in motherhood and business. I loved hearing about how Amber lives her E.P.I.C life by coming home to herself and therefore coming home to the ones she loves. I left the conversation grounded and ready to let go of judgment, to live my truth and to design my life. Topics discussed in this episode: How Amber’s entrepreneurial mother influenced her life The profound importance of speaking your truth and how Amber is helping other survivors of childhood sexual abuse through sharing hers How Amber's near-death experience during the birth of her daughter inspired her to live her life differently Having the courage to have hard conversations Helping women “come home” to themselves Letting go of judgment and pursuing something for the fun of it The Law of Attraction Weaving intentional actions for yourself into your life in order to be your best self Resources mentioned in this episode: Emerging Women’s Power Circles, where I connected with a circle of champions and supporters during the time I was launching Mother’s Quest http://www.emergingwomen.com/power-circles/ Amber’s interview on The Mighty Mommies Show Podcast with Whitney Lang:http://www.whitneylang.com/podcast-blog/2017/1/7/heart-centered-momming-with-amber-lilyestrom where she shares the full story of the birth of her daughter Amber’s podcast, The Soul-Fueled CEO The Soul Fueled CEO™ Academy Amber’s website to sign up for email updates and find her social media handles www.amberlilyestrom.com Haven New Hampshire, an organization supporting men, women, and children affected by domestic and sexual violence: http://havennh.org/ Abraham Hicks Do you enjoy this podcast and want to support more meaningful conversations such as these? Unveiled Voices - Episode 6 - Expand Your Power Circles Step into your Kingdom Calling and enlarge your vision This is the final step of this special 6 episode series entitled Unveiled Voices - Releasing the Power of Your Calling. I gave a review of the previous 5 steps in Episode 5 last week, so make sure you listen to that if you need a quick review of the process. Get on our Facebook page and share with me where you're at in the process. You've got the vision, you've stayed in your lane and now it's time to take it to the next level. I call it expanding your power circles. If your vision only requires action on your part, Your vision isn't big enough. That's just a plan. Your vision will begin to expand as you partner and learn from others. And constantly seek wisdom and understanding as you ask God to direct your path. Power Circles come in all different types, and frankly I like to see you having multiple power circles to tap into. Here are a few types that have worked best for me: Resources Power circles. 2. Spiritual/Prayer Support Power Circles. - Prayer Shields 3. Accountability power Circles. 4. A Mastermind group could be one of your power circles Think about defining your own Power Circles and then go out and get involved. Note: For more information on Sharon Hill and a description of a prayer shield, visit On Call Prayer. The Word Unveiled - When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. Matt 18:20 Action Challenge: Identify one person this week who you want to connect with and make that call, send that email, and see where it leads. You never know until you try. Aim high and be strategic with your time, treasure, and talent.
