New City Church
The Cost of Character | Moses | Pastor Steve Andres

New City Church

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 9, 2026 44:26

Are you dealing with your character or just getting more discreet? This weekend Pastor Steve Andres continued our MOSES series with a message about the cost of character.Numbers 20:11-12Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”Moses' life serves as an encouragement and warning to all of us. His successes and failures can teach us about how we can faithfully live out God's purposes for our lives. What does this story teach us?1) Your CHARACTER counts. If we look at the story of Moses' life, we can see anger is a persistent and unresolved issue. Character flaws will remain in our lives when we choose to hide them instead of addressing them. There is no healing in hiding.Moses' crazy, rock-striking anger comes because he values his own leadership and the people's respect more than obedience to God. He reacts in a way that diminishes God in front of the people, and God declares a judgment over Moses that he will not personally enter the promised land. 2) Your CALLING is not your healing. The scariest part of the story is that even though Moses was wrong to strike the rock, God still caused the water to flow. Don't make the mistake of thinking that your gifting and calling is the same as God's approval. Gifting can provide validation, but it won't produce transformation.3) CHRIST is the pattern for our lives.Anger can reveal so much about what we love. God's plan and purpose is to grow us up to love what He loves, in the way the He loves. It's easier to act like a Christian than to react like a Christian.Pastor Mark BattersonGod does not call you to greatness; He calls you to Christlikeness. He calls you to the humility and meekness and love and righteousness of Jesus. And He has promised to help you!Philippians 2:13For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Iron Sharpens Iron (Proverbs 27:17) Nate Beck The opening devotional centered on the idea that spiritual growth requires godly relationships that challenge us.Key points: • Just as iron sharpening iron creates friction, spiritual growth often comes through correction, mentoring, and accountability. • True friends help expose blind spots and encourage growth rather than simply telling us what we want to hear. • Christians should not be offended by constructive feedback when it is given in love. • Believers are called to help sharpen one another so they can grow stronger in their faith and resist spiritual attacks.A practical example was given from both professional mentoring and Christian fellowship, emphasizing that people often achieve growth because someone challenged them to improve.#### 2. Stir Up the Gift of God (2 Timothy 1) The main teaching focused on stirring up the gifts, faith, power, and calling that God has already placed within believers.Major themes included:• The resources believers need are already available through Christ and the Holy Spirit. • Studying and meditating on Scripture is how believers "stir up" what God has placed inside them. • Feelings should not lead a person's life; God's Word should. • Fear, worry, and doubt were described as distractions that can hinder believers from walking in their calling. • God's power, love, and a sound mind are already available to believers, but they must actively engage with Scripture and faith. • Worry was contrasted with faith, with an emphasis on replacing fearful thoughts with God's promises. • Believers should focus on God's purpose and calling rather than being distracted by less important activities.#### 3. Walking in Love A significant portion of the message emphasized that:• Love is central to the Christian life. • God's love ("agape" love) is a choice and a spiritual nature, not merely an emotion. • Christians are called to love others regardless of whether that love is returned. • Faith operates through love, making love essential for spiritual growth and effectiveness.Theme #4: Stop Letting Feelings Lead• Feelings were described as followers, not leaders. • Fear, worry, and doubt were portrayed as distractions that pull people away from God's purpose. • The antidote is renewing the mind with God's Word and speaking God's promises.Theme #5: Walk in Your Calling• Every believer has a God-given purpose. • Many people know what God has called them to do but allow distractions or fear to delay obedience. • The message encouraged listeners to return to the assignment God originally placed on their hearts.Theme #6: Love Is the Foundation• Faith works through love. • Agape love is an act of will, not merely an emotion. • Christians are called to love others whether that love is returned or not. • Walking in God's love is central to living out God's will.### Main Takeaway The central message was: Believers must intentionally stay in God's Word, allow it to shape their thinking, stir up the gifts and power God has already placed within them, walk in love, and embrace the calling God has given them rather than being driven by fear, feelings, or distractions.### One-Sentence SummaryHerb's sermon challenged listeners to stop being driven by feelings and fear, immerse themselves in God's Word, stir up the gifts already placed within them, embrace their calling, and walk in the love of God.

This conversation explores why so many men feel lost, angry, disconnected, and emotionally shut down, how unresolved wounds show up in relationships, and why healing doesn't happen in isolation — it happens through safe connection. If you've ever felt busy but not fulfilled… this episode is for you. So many women are trying to manage their time better—but still feel scattered, overwhelmed, and pulled in too many directions. In this episode, we're shifting the conversation. Because time management isn't just about getting more done… it's about leading your life with intention and asking "Master, what matters?" Because what matters to Him should matter to us. I'm sharing a simple framework you can come back to again and again: Your Calling. Your Community. Your Cause. When you align your life around these three areas, you gain clarity, build confidence, and begin to create real, Christ-centered influence in the lives of others. This is how you stop reacting… and start leading. In this episode, you'll learn: Why traditional time management isn't working for you The difference between being busy and being aligned How to identify what actually matters in your life and leadership A simple filter to help you make better decisions with your time How to lead with clarity, confidence, and intentional impact Questions to reflect on: What is God doing in me right now? (calling) Who has He placed in my life to influence? (community) What is He asking me to focus on in this season? (cause) Ready to go deeper? If you're ready to step into your calling and become a more intentional, confident leader… The Called to Lead Framework will help you grow in clarity, strengthen your leadership, and learn how to influence others with purpose—at work, in your community, and at home.

Euphoric Evolution

What does it cost to stay inside a story you've outgrown? And what becomes available when you finally don't?This is the question nobody says out loud, because the cost of not moving through this threshold doesn't look like collapse. It looks like stability. It looks like a leader who made peace with the gap and got back to building. And the system rewards them for it.In Part 2 of Your Cage & Your Calling, Makhosi names what actually happens when suppressed evolution goes underground. The vision that shrinks not in scale but in aliveness. The competence that becomes its own kind of loneliness. And the generational cost of passing the cage down alongside the wealth. She then goes somewhere that might feel like a departure from the personal, but isn't. To the cosmological root of why this pattern exists at all, why the dominion-over paradigm produced this specific crisis, and why the thing pressing in you right now is not confused, not ungrateful, and not naive about what it took to get here. And then she names what actually becomes possible on the other side. Not a softer version of leadership. Not trading power for authenticity. You built everything they said would make you happy. And for some reason, it doesn't feel like you've arrived. This episode opens in four rooms you've probably already found yourself in - the boardroom where your body refused to co-sign a strategy your mind knew would work, the stage where you finished to a standing ovation and went back to your hotel room wondering what just happened, the dinner table where you hadn't said anything true in two hours, and 3am, where something won't quiet no matter how much you've optimized. What you're experiencing isn't burnout, ingratitude, or a strategy problem. It's what happens when your consciousness has evolved past the identity that built everything. In this first part of Your Cage & Your Calling, Makhosi diagnoses what's actually happening across a specific cohort of high-achieving founders and executives - why this generation, why now, and what the ancestral and structural conditions are that produced this convergence. This is Part 1 of 2. Stay tuned for Part 2.Before the next episode, hold this question: When did you first notice that what was driving you started to feel like something other than yours?Don't answer quickly. What do women really want in 2026? I was asked to answer this at a recent summit where I was invited to speak. After taking time to reflect, two themes became clear. Clarity and cash flow. Not more hustle. Not more striving. Not more busy work or endless social media. Many women say they want peace and simplicity, yet still find themselves chasing strategies that leave them confused and exhausted. They are tired of second guessing their direction. They want clear steps. They also want consistent income. Because when cash flow is steady, it creates options. It allows you to support your family, give generously, and build without chaos or panic producing. In this episode, I break down why clarity must come first and how true cash flow becomes the fruit of serving the Lord faithfully through your business. This training will help you refocus on what actually produces aligned growth so you can build with direction, peace, and sustainable income. I pray this blesses you!   Ready to Make Consistent Income From a Podcast?  Join my 5-Day Profitable Podcast Bootcamp! We are diving into how to build an income from home using just 15 to 30-minute pockets of time. --- ✨ The "Tiny Rhythm" Secret You don't need a perfect schedule. What happens when a podcast that is already working gets refined with clarity, strategy, and the right support? If you have some traction but feel like you are leaving growth, income, or impact on the table, this episode will show you what is possible when you stop doing it alone and start building with intention. In this conversation, we share what changed when Nick and Haley made one strategic decision to niche down and refine their message inside Podcast to Profit. Through a focused rebrand, clearer copy, and a successful live launch, they gained direction and scalability. By using podcasting and email together, they grew to nearly half a million downloads and generated $18K in revenue. As you listen, put yourself in their seat. Imagine what could happen if you optimized what you already have, clarified your message, and made one aligned decision instead of ten scattered ones. Do you feel unclear, confused, or stuck, even though you are praying and asking God for direction? You may be wondering what you're doing wrong or why clarity has not come yet. You keep waiting for certainty that never seems to arrive. In this episode, we talk about why you may not be off track, but rather overcomplicating what God is asking of you. Fear often disguises itself as discernment, convincing you to delay when God is inviting you to move. Clarity does not come from overthinking. It comes through obedience. If you need direction, this episode will help you refocus on the faithful next step instead of the full picture. When you take the next obedient step, clarity follows. This conversation will help you move forward with peace, confidence, and trust in how God leads.
