For some time there's been a lot of controversy, even among conservatives, about a Constitutional Convention, or a ConCon for short. According to Christian, the term, "Constitutional Convention" has been in our legal vernacular for over a century. You can go back to the 2nd edition of Black's Law Dictionary published in 1910 and on to the most current editions published today. They define "Constitutional Convention" as, "A duly constituted assembly of delegates or representatives of the people of a state or nation for the purpose of framing, revising or amending its constitution." So terms such as "Article V Convention" or "Constitutional Convention" are interchangeable, historical terms. However, lately (since about 2010 or 2011), there's been a movement in favor of a convention. They rename their efforts in more flattering fashion by using phrases such as "Convention of States" or "Convention of the States." Whatever phrase you want to use, some indicate this is needed in order to balance the budget or to limit the power of Congress or to change what are perceived as outdated rules. Are there dangers lurking about within such efforts that could subvert the Constitution? You decide what motives might be involved when you review this important edition of Crosstalk. Sophia Ibrahim came to Christ in April 2022. Several Muslim men beat her unconscious after they found her attending a Bible study this month. She was discharged from the hospital last week.  Ibrahim told Morning Star News, “I will continue serving [God] and making others know Him because of the everlasting life and the joy of knowing Christ.”   Somalia is ranked second on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most dangerous countries worldwide to be a Christian.  In Philippians 3:8, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.” Bible app expands footprint into Latin America The Bible app YouVersion is expanding its presence in Latin America. YouVersion leaders met in Mexico City last week to partner with churches and ministries. Among Latin American countries, Mexico and Colombia have some of the highest levels of Bible app usage. YouVersion CEO Bobby Gruenewald told Christian Daily International, “It took us 17 years to reach the first 1 billion devices. We believe the next billion will come in the next five years. There is a hunger for the Word of God at a global level.”   2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” Update on Trump's border wall The Trump administration is continuing to build the wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The New American reported, “According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as of mid-August 2026, about 365 miles of primary border wall, 58 miles of replacement border wall, and 423 miles of secondary border wall either are now under construction or have been completed since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January 2025.” The Trump administration is seeking to build or finish 1,200 new miles of wall, as well as hundreds more miles of vehicle barriers and replacement wall. Funding for the continued border project mostly comes from Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed in 2025. President Trump rejected trans ideology and affirmed parental rights President Donald Trump addressed education at the White House on Monday as many students return to school this week.  The president specifically called out transgender ideology in schools. It is named after Johannes Gutenberg, a German inventor and printer. The earliest date appearing on a copy of the completed Gutenberg Bible is August 24, 1456 – 570 years ago. This Bible represented the first work printed in Europe with moveable type. The new printing press would become invaluable for the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. It allowed teachers like Martin Luther to easily spread their writings on the Bible. This time, comes this shocking story, where the state euthanized Brigitte Stegemann, an 83-year-old Christian grandmother, against her will and the will of her family. On the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition blog, her granddaughter said,  “One of our greatest ethical concerns is that GG had explicitly declined [Medical Assistance in Dying], stating it violated her Christian faith. Once a vulnerable patient explicitly declines this path, the facility should never have targeted her for re-evaluation behind closed doors while her primary advocate was away.” More than 5% of all deaths in Canada are attributed to Medical Assistance in Dying. It is the fifth leading cause of death there. Since 1836, the month of July was the driest for England and Wales in recorded history, reports Reuters. Similarly, the United States experienced the hottest July since 1895.  Also, March 2026 was the hottest March ever — 9.4° above the 20th-century average. Ukraine drone attack killed 13 Russians, injured 75 Ukraine's drone attack on Russia's oil hub killed 13 citizens and wounded another 75 over the weekend, reports PBS.  Russia says they shut down 450 drones. In addition, Russia killed 21 people in Kyiv in this ongoing drone-based tit-for-tat warfare. The changing military alliances overseas Internationally, nations are lining up in allied positions. Just last week, Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia signed a pact, in which all three nations agreed that an attack on any of the three nations would be taken as an attack on all. Pakistan's relationship with China has also warmed up considerably.   China supplies Pakistan's military weaponry and Pakistan strongly supports Beijing on Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. If we include China's growing relationship with Russia, this axis of powers now holds 6,100 nuclear warheads in total, almost exactly the same number held by the allied powers of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, India, and Israel.  Keep in mind: God is over all the armies of the Earth. They come from a far country, from the end of Heaven, the LORD and His weapons of indignation, to destroy the whole land.” Columbia hit by major earthquake Another devastating earthquake hit Colombia yesterday morning, killing 111 people, reports the Associated Press. It was 7.4 on the Richter scale. This follows another 7.5 earthquake in Venezuela a few weeks ago, that killed 5,000 people. Colombia produces 80% of the world's cocaine.  However, Friday marked the first day in office for Colombia's new president —  Abelardo de la Espriella. He is an admirer of President Donald Trump and had promised an "all-out war" on the drug cartels. South America has swung to the right over the last few years. Now eight countries are led by presidents who would align more with President Donald Trump. Only three South American nations are led by presidents that bend towards the left including Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela. Two-thirds of Americans support the death penalty Pew Research has found that Americans favor the use of the death penalty for murder convictions, in line with Genesis 9:6.   A full two-thirds of Americans say they favor the death penalty, and only 32% oppose it.  The numbers have remained about the same for the last seven years. Yet, in the first half of 2026, capital juries chose not to execute the murderer at least 19 times, more often than to execute. Murders in America average 15,000 per year, yet on average, only 23 murderers are put to death.  That's one-tenth of one percent!  And this year, only 19 murderers have received the death penalty.  Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in His own image.” Network for Hope shut down for its immoral organ donor system The Department of Health and Human Services has decertified Network for Hope, an organ transplant organization that was exposed for unsafe and immoral practices. Heidi Klessig of Life Site News explained, “Removing Network for Hope's certification was absolutely necessary, but will not address the most pressing problem underlying our current organ donation system: organ donors must be biologically alive in order to donate viable organs.” Attorney General Todd Blanche eager to end mail-order abortions And finally, newly appointed Attorney General Todd Blanche has pledged to work towards solidifying pro-life gains across the country, as well as to end mail-order abortions. Not surprisingly, all Democrats voted against Blanche's nomination.   According to Americans United for Life, “Through his statements and actions as Acting Attorney General, Mr. Blanche has shown himself to be a sincere advocate for human life and a faithful servant of President Trump's pro-life agenda.”  And Blanche himself has stated, “If states have said, ‘We are going to protect the unborn and we're going to protect every life from the moment of conception,' we're putting practices and policies in place so that other states and other organizations can't attack that. Many leave behind young families. I won't rest until they see freedom.” Throughout the day, the Christians were required to sit on hard benches and could not stand up without requesting permission of the authorities. The pastor further stated, “These Christians love their nation. They only want to worship God peacefully, according to the Bible, and to serve others, especially the poor, the disabled, and the elderly.” 900 people in Congo, Africa have died from E-bola That E-bola outbreak in Congo, Africa has now killed over 900 people and will soon be the second worst E-bola outbreak in history. At least 36 health workers have contracted the disease and died in the outbreak. Samaritan's Purse has two treatment centers operating right now in the Congo. At least one of the ministry workers has been diagnosed with the disease, and is being treated in Frankfurt, Germany. Bush's two children, and Barack Obama's two children. 7,000 Americans contracted cyclospora virus, many from Taco Bell Here in the states as many as 7,000 Americans are suspected to have contracted the cyclospora virus, a parasitic disease producing weeks of diarrhea. The Associated Press reports that federal health officials have identified lettuce from Mexico served at Taco Bell locations across five U.S. states as a source. Last Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned consumers not to eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. A record number of cyclospora cases have been reported in more than 30 states. The FDA's traceback investigation identified a single supplier of iceberg lettuce from Mexico. Officials suspect that the lettuce was watered with feces-contaminated water. So far, the disease is most prevalent in New York, Michigan, and North Carolina. Republicans wants to curtail surveillance Flock cameras Conservative Republicans in the United States House of Representatives put forward a bill to curtail the surveillance being conducted through devices such as Flock cameras. The bill, filed by Republican Congressman Keith Self of Texas, would force police departments to obtain a warrant to search through camera data and license plate readers when looking for criminals.  Representative Self explained, “Americans' Fourth Amendment right to be secure in their privacy does not disappear just because of new technology or artificial intelligence. Americans have a constitutional right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, and our government is supposed to get a warrant before invading that privacy. This bill simply restores that protection.”  As of 2025, Flock is used by over 6,000 municipalities in the United States. The company had raised a total of $950 million in venture funding, with a $7.5 billion valuation. Court: Amish parents cannot abstain from school vaccinations The U.S. Second Court of Appeals ruled against the Amish community in New York, which had sued to abstain from school vaccinations. The ruling strips parents of their right to abstain from school vaccinations for their children due to religious reasons.  The New American pointed out, “Should the case reach the Supreme Court of the United States, as legal experts expect, the decision could have nationwide implications for religious exemptions in all 45 states that currently allow them for school vaccines.” America's hot summer It's a hot summer, especially in the Western states. Billings, Montana topped out at a record 111 degrees on Sunday. Salt Lake City also set record temperatures. And ABC News reports that 100 million Americans will experience extreme temperatures this week. Forecasters are expecting 20-30 degrees hotter than the average temperatures. Aspen Fires in Colorado burned 100,000 acres The Colorado Aspen Acres Fire is the biggest fire in the country thus far — burning down 100,000 acres, reports The Colorado Sun. The Pacific Northwest has two big fires raging now as well. First, the Hay Creek Complex fire has burned over 92,000 acres, and the Rowe Creek Complex fire has burned 36,000 acres.
