Victoria Reynolds Farmer, Kayla Beth Moore, and Christina Bieber Lake talk about the devotional practice of lectio divina. Knowing What is lectio divina? https://www.usccb.org/bible/national-bible-week/upload/lectio-divina.pdf What are our experiences with this form of interpretation? How has it helped us think differently about Biblical texts or our own religious practices? Reading We will perform a lectio divina reading of a Biblical passage and discuss it afterwards. We encourage our listeners to use your Bibles along with us. Passage: James 4:13-17 (New American but feel free to use your own) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we shall go into such and such a town, spend a year there doing business, and make a profit”— 14 you have no idea what your life will be like tomorrow.* You are a puff of smoke that appears briefly and then disappears. 15 Instead you should say, “If the Lord wills it,* we shall live to do this or that.” 16 But now you are boasting in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, it is a sin. Reflection: What did we notice that we wouldn’t have through just reading alone? What did we learn from each other’s perspectives and observations? How can we bring lessons from this kind of reading and observing to other parts of our spiritual lives? Passing On Christina: M. Basil Pennington, Lectio Divina: Renewing the Ancient Practice of Teaching the Scriptures KB: Son of Laughter by Frederick Buechner Victoria: Daily Lectio Divina podcast by Sharon Garlough Brown

This week, the World Economic Forum is meeting in Davos, Switzerland. On the eve of these multi-day meetings, the founder and executive chairman, Klaus Schwab, declared 2023 the year of the polycrisis. He declared that environmental, economical, social and geopolitical crises are converging and conflating, creating an extensively versatile and uncertain future.--Returning to Crosstalk to report on this development was Alex Newman. He believes that also includes fear so that the World Economic Forum can steer the response to such crises in such a way that is desirable to those at the top.--In summary, Klaus Schwab was recruited by Henry Kissinger and he, in turn, was recruited by David Rockefeller. So Alex believes Schwab is more the -front man- rather than the man at the top.

The Devil's Triangle: Mark Judge vs the New American Stassi. The Eric Metaxas Show. The Eric Metaxas Show Mark Judge (Encore)  Dec 27 2022   Mark Judge, with his new book, "The Devil's Triangle: Mark Judge vs the New American Stassi," recalls his incredible ordeal involving an old classmate named Brett Kavanaugh. (Encore Presentation) The Eric Metaxas Show- https://metaxastalk.com/podcasts/ About the book- The Devil's Triangle: Mark Judge vs the New American Stasi Paperback – November 10, 2022 by Mark Judge  (Author) A harrowing account of one man's ordeal during the contentious Brett Kavanaugh hearings at the hands of the New American Stasi⎯a sinister cabal of partisan journalists, Democratic politicians, and shadowy oppo researchers the author calls “The Devil's Triangle.” “Do you remember the woman in To Kill a Mockingbird who falsely accuses a black man of raping her? What could possess anyone to do such an evil thing—to viciously attempt to destroy a life by knowingly lying? For that answer look no farther than the riveting and gloriously candid The Devil's Triangle by Mark Judge, who himself was targeted for destruction by that same evil, and who lived to tell the tale, if only so that we might all recognize the dark forces at work in our nation. In a voice evoking J.D. Salinger, Hunter S. Thompson, and yes, Lester Bangs—within a narrative that brings to mind All the President's Men and Fast Times at Ridgemont High—Judge tells us the truth, in all of its brutality and beauty. May this book open the way for a spate of similar memoirs, whose honesty will lead this once-great nation out of the fetid triangular swamp of lies that is this brave book's eponymous Devil's Triangle—and toward a new sunlit frontier, in which genuine liberty and unvarnished truth once more become our beacons and our hope.” —Eric Metaxas, #1 New York Times Bestselling author of Fish Out of Water: A Search for the Meaning of Life and Host of Socrates in the City In 2018, in the midst of a contentious Supreme Court confirmation battle, Christine Blasey Ford named Mark Judge as a witness to her alleged attempted rape over thirty years earlier at the hands of a teenaged Brett Kavanaugh. Overnight, the unassuming writer, critic, videographer, and recovering alcoholic was unwillingly thrust into the national media spotlight. Reporters combed through Judge's writings, pored over his high school yearbook, hounded him with emails and phone calls, and invaded the privacy of his relatives, friends, and former girlfriends. He was mauled in the press, denounced in the Senate, received threatening late-night calls, became the target of a classic honey trap, and was even called out by Matt Damon on Saturday Night Live. As the lunacy reached its crescendo, Judge began to fear for his sanity⎯and even his life. A year later, still traumatized by this Kafkaesque experience, Judge found himself washing dishes in a Maryland restaurant, trying to piece his shattered life back together. Even at the time, it was clear that Judge himself was not the target of this campaign of vilification. Instead, it was an attempt to use his spotty record as a teenage alcoholic, and later, a political and cultural conservative, to destroy Brett Kavanaugh by proxy. The actors in this malicious and cynical plot were an informal cabal of partisan reporters, Democrats in Congress, and shadowy opposition researchers: a “Devil's Triangle” whom Judge aptly compares to the Stasi, the dreaded East German secret police who terrorized citizens during the Cold War. Now, in a frank, confessional, and deeply moving book that stands comparison to Arthur Koestler's Cold War classic Darkness at Noon, Judge rips the mask from the new American Stasi. Using pop culture, politics, the story of his friendship with Kavanaugh, and the fun, wild, and misunderstood 1980s, Judge celebrates sex, art, and freedom while issuing a timely warning to the rest of us about our own endangered freedoms.   You can purchase this book at your favorite bookseller or on Amazon at- https://www.amazon.com/Devils-Triangle-Judge-American-Stasi/dp/163758072X   HELP ACU SPREAD THE WORD!  Please go to Apple Podcasts and give ACU a 5 star rating. History and memory are two different things, one is built on facts and documents and the other is built on tradition, myth and politics. Ty Seidule dissects the history of the American Civil War and the legacy of the myths it spawned about the cause of the war. Seidule retired from the U.S. Army as a brigadier general after 36 years of service. Seidule was then appointed Vice Chair of the National Commission on Base Renaming by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in 2021. He has served as Professor Emeritus of History at West Point for two decades, is a visiting professor at Hamilton College and a New American fellow. Seidule is passionate about stopping the spread of misinformation about American history, especially the Civil War. His Southern upbringing contributed to his great reverence for Robert E. Lee and a misguided understanding of the Civil War. Through years of reflection and study of history, his opinion on the issue has changed significantly and he now uses his platform to deconstruct the narrative that Lee was a hero and challenges the idea that Confederate soldiers were underdogs fighting for a noble cause. Seidule asserts that the Civil War was unequivocally about the South's resistance to the abolishment of slavery and ignoring this history continues to cause harm. He has published numerous articles, books and videos on the topic, including his latest book, “Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner's Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause,” which was published this year.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Elon Musk said he would make a bid for Twitter, there was an uproar from those on the -left.- Many were concerned how he might upend the company and what might get exposed. Many have left the company while others have been released since Musk has taken over.--In the wake of the ownership change, Musk has called his organization both a social media platform as well as a crime scene. There are revelations that backup previous allegations and that expose what was going on behind the scenes- coverup, disinformation, censorship, shadow-banning of conservatives, and more.--Our guest on this Crosstalk has been covering the Twitter files and his name is R. Cort Kirkwood. He's a contributing writer to The New American and a former newspaper editor.--Cort began by noting that when conservatives were complaining about what was going on at Twitter with the censorship, the shadow-banning --tweeting- without getting any visibility- and deleting of accounts, the -left- pushed back by saying it's a private company so they can do whatever they want. So when Musk bought Twitter, people like Keith Olbermann and Rob Reiner called for investigations. This shows that the -left- never really believed that Twitter was the equivalent of a public bulletin board where people could post anything they want politically. Instead, they viewed it as their playground and only conservatives that were part of the controlled opposition would be tolerated, provided they didn't cross certain lines.--What's interesting is that now Musk is being accused of being a member of the -far right- because of what he's said about Twitter and the issue of free speech.

Perloff and I discuss consolidation of power, some of the Founders' foundational errors, the South and the Yankee Empire, ecumenism, godless infiltration within all forms of Christianity, as well as the beauty of Orthodoxy, Church history, post-biblical miracles, Saints, and silver linings. Sure, “Satan's a long-term planner,” but there's nothing that screws up his evil schemes better than people choosing the Narrow Path. SECRET HISTORY NOTE: I was remiss in mentioning to Perloff that there was a Founding-era Virginian who was not high-church Anglican but was Orthodox Christian: Philip Ludwell III. Nearly 30 years before Russians began bringing the Faith to Alaska and a century prior to Orthodox people groups started immigrating to these United States, Colonel Ludwell was received into the Orthodox Church in 1738, making him the first known Orthodox convert in North America. He is the namesake of the Ludwell Orthodox Fellowship, of which I'm a co-founding member, and one of the many cultural connections we see as making the South fertile ground for planting and growing Orthodoxy. The restaurant serves a selection of regional New American cuisine focusing on what makes the country unique and eclectic through its social plate dining concept. He also shares the importance of making mistakes, his food philosophy that food should tell a story, and why food is important to a community's culture. Foster comments on Utah's foodie scene, the state's recent gain in notoriety as a must-experience dining destination, the countless mentors that made him the chef he is today, and much more.
