A Recruiter She Never Asked for Advice from Told Her to Lower Her Ambitions. It Derailed Her for Months. What Geetanjali Learned About Who Gets to Define Your Ceiling. She was doing great work, getting strong reviews, and waiting for someone to recognize she was ready for the next level. Nobody came. Finally, she went and asked. They said: "Yeah, we think you're ready." She walked away with one permanent lesson: no one knows where you want to go unless you tell them. Your manager cannot promote you toward a goal they don't know you have. Geetanjali is SVP of Financial Planning and Analysis at Ceridian, and she has built her career across multiple industries, companies, and cities, often following her spouse's career moves and rebuilding her network from scratch each time. She has been told she had no career path because of a commute. She has had a recruiter give her unsolicited opinions about her ceiling — someone who had never worked with her and didn't even have a position for her. Both times, she fact-checked herself, pushed back, and moved forward. In this episode, she gets specific about how. You'll learn: Why she walked out of her first promotion conversation wondering why her manager didn't just offer it, and the mantra she built from that moment: "I own my career." On September 2, 31 BC, the Battle of Actium unfolded as a desperate breakout attempt by Antony and Cleopatra to save their treasury. They waited for the afternoon winds to turn so they could unfurl their sails—an unusual tactic for warships in battle. During the engagement, Cleopatra's squadron, distinguished by purple sails, broke through a gap in the Roman line. In a move that devastated his military honor, Antony abandoned his fleet and army to follow her. Straussnotes that while Antony's sailors continued to fight bravely, Octavian's forces eventually used fire arrows to destroy the remaining galleys. This abandonment of his men was a "major no-no" that permanently scarred Antony's reputation as a Roman leader. Sandra Costilla was 28 years old when her body was found in the woods of Southampton, Long Island, in 1993. For three decades, nobody connected her death to the Gilgo Beach case. Investigators looked at the wrong suspect for years. Meanwhile, according to prosecutors, the man whose DNA was allegedly on her body was living undisturbed — building a career, raising a family, and allegedly killing other women for nearly two more decades after Sandra was gone.Rex Heuermann pled guilty to her murder. He pled guilty to murdering six other women. He admitted to killing an eighth victim — Karen Vergata. Life without parole. No trial. After nearly three years of fighting every piece of evidence, challenging the DNA, filing motion after motion, and losing each one — he stood in Suffolk County Court and admitted to all of it.Sandra's case changed everything about the timeline. Before prosecutors linked her to Heuermann, the Gilgo Beach killings were understood to have begun in 2007. Sandra pushes it back by 14 years.
