Property Brothers is fake. Catfish is fake. Love Island is fake. And like - fine. It's all fake. We can argue that because we all know, or because it is sometimes very obvious, that it doesn't matter. But it does because it shifts our idea of normal and acceptable. It makes us feel like everyone behaves like a character. It convinces us that we're not normal if we're not always camera ready. But because it's normal to sell us things plan your vacation around instagram, or stage your house because you want to look cool on a tiktok, or have a face filter every time you post, It's not just becoming harder to tell what's fake, there's simply very little left that isn't. Hometown Radio 01/10/22 5p: Hollywood writer Ray Richmond shares his new book on Betty White
Today's show will deal with the worst and the best of America. On the worst side, today's Republican Party, if there still is one. The Grand OId Party of the past has been replaced by the Gullible Old Propagandists who believe the bullshit spewed by and at them. Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of their attempted coup at the Capitol, an event about which they continue to lie, as they do with virtually every subject these days. At the top of the show, I'll speak with Ron Filipkowski. I *met* him on Twitter, where his bio describes him as "Attorney, Marine, Triathlete, Historian. Former Federal Prosecutor & Repub; now Defense Attorney & Democrat. Tracking and Reporting on Right-Wing Extremism." Intriguing, right? Well, he's down here in Florida and is working hard to evict Gov DeathSentence from the governor's mansion too. In the second half of the show, we segue from the ridiculous to the truly sublime... Betty White. An old friendly acquaintance of mine, Ray Richmond, wrote about television for the Los Angeles Daily News and other papers when I was in LA in the 90s. Over the past few months, I've seen his Facebook posts about the book he'd been working on, "Betty White: 100 Remarkable Moments in an Extraordinary Life". It was officially released at the beginning of December. Betty White was sadly taken from us on Dec.31, 2021 - New Years Eve. But Ray Richmond joins us today to tell us a bit more about America's sweetheart, premiere grandmother and ambassador to animals everywhere.
Today I'm joined by author Ray Richmond to look back at the career and legacy of Betty White. You can find Ray's book Betty White: 100 Remarkable Moments in an Extraordinary Life wherever books are sold. Betty White: 100 Remarkable Moments in an Extraordinary Life is a visual salute to the First Lady of Television, spanning her more than 80 years as a performer and star of such legendary series as The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/followingfilms/support

When I started working at Playboy TV, people immediately began to ask me how I was going to “explain my job” to my daughter. Strangely, I was never asked that question about any of the other places I worked. After all, I spent years working at NBC and never once was I asked to explain Supertrain. But after I became Head of Programming at Playboy TV, I was repeatedly asked how I was going to justify my job to a 4 year old. Turns out, my kid didn’t have a problem. On the other hand, there were one or two very judgmental moms at her fancy private school who, after finding out where I worked, tried to make things extremely difficult for me. And the most famous mom of all, was my biggest hater. Which only proves, no matter where you go, there are always mean girls. My guest, columnist and reporter Ray Richmond, had a much different experience. His mother went from giving hand jobs to movie stars in a seedy massage parlor across from FOX, to founding a huge sex product empire. That’s right, a tiny, Jewish mother working in a “rub and tug” is the Godmother of the multi-billion dollar lube and sex toy industry. And the best/most unbelievable part of this story is that her X-rated enterprise was entirely bankrolled by her boyfriend — a well-known Los Angeles restaurateur who also happened to be a married, devout Christian, anti-smut crusader. Wait, what??? And THAT’S not even the craziest part. This is a true story about religious faith, true love, and lubrication. You are not going to believe this. And, as part of our special Holiday Giveaway month, the fine folks at Überlube have generously donated their amazing sex lubricant. All you have to do to be eligible to receive a bottle of Überlube for free, is go to our iTunes page, subscribe, write a 5-star review and email the text of your review and the name you used to info@sexedthemusical.com. A memoir is a personal account of one’s life. It can be a portion of his or her life, or span many years. Memoirs are a wonderful way for us to understand someone else’s story. They give us a slice of history and can help us empathize and relate to people who might be celebrities, athletes, journalists, players in historical events or even every-day people with extraordinary stories. Lessons learned and the moments that shaped one’s life are often the goal in writing a memoir. Why should we read them? What makes a memoir compelling? And, who should write them and what should they know about the process? We’re talking to Ray Richmond. A professional journalist and author, he was also a television critic, columnist and reporter for a number ofpublications, including The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, the Los Angeles Daily News, and more. His books include The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family (1997), This is Jeopardy!:Celebrating America’s Favorite Quiz Show (2004), TV Moms: An Illustrated Guide (2000) and My Greatest Day in Show Business(1999).He contributed to the book The Momentas well. Ray is also the founder of Family Sleuth Memoirs. It is his belief that working with others on their memoirs might help change the world—for the better—as we know it.
