Witness Wednesday #199 Catherine D. Today I would like to share with you a witness about how God came through at the last minute. He does this sometimes. Sometimes it can feel like He is not there, like He didn't hear your prayers, and then just when you think all is lost, He comes through. Last September, I went to Ecuador for my niece's baptism. This was a really big deal for me, as my niece was born at 27 weeks and almost didn't survive. That is a witness for another time. She was in the hospital for 4 months, and just as she got to leave the hospital and go home, COVID happened. She had to stay in her house for over a year. Her grandparents, my brother-in-law's parents, couldn't come here from Ecuador to meet her, and they couldn't travel there due to the pandemic. So, this past September, right before my niece turned 2, they decided to have her baptized in Ecuador. They had asked me to be the Godmother, and I was honored to make the trip to celebrate this amazing occasion. She is a miracle baby for so many reasons, and I was looking forward to being a part of bringing this beautiful girl into the church. My mom and dad traveled down a week early with my sister, brother-in-law, and my niece. Then I was traveling with my mother-in-law, Joanie, as she also loves to travel. The beginning of our trip shows how God shows up in all the details. We had a really early morning flight, and then we had a long layover in Florida. When I say long, I mean we had a 12-hour layover in FL. We were both wondering what we would do to pass the time. We thought about leaving the airport and looking around the city, but we had our luggage, and we didn't really want to walk around town carrying our luggage. I was praying about this on our flight to FL, and the thought came to me that we could rent a car. This way we could keep our luggage in the trunk and drive around the town. Once we landed and got to the car rental place, it turned out it was very inexpensive to rent the car for the day. We were all set and on our way. We drove to the beach, we walked along the boardwalk, we got ice cream, we drove through a beautiful scenic park, and we even got out and went for a nice walk through the park. We had a fantastic day and made it back to the airport in plenty of time to make our next flight. God was in all the details of that day, and He worked things out perfectly for us. This next part of our journey is where things got a little bumpy. We had been traveling since about 4 am. We arrived in Ecuador at about 11 pm. We were tired and ready to get to the hotel and get some sleep. My brother-in-law had our flight info, but we had no way to reach him as our phones did not have international service. This wasn't really a problem as our flight was not delayed, and he could always check with the airport if it had been. Joanie and I wait in the line to go through passport control. We finally get up to passport control, and we can see the door to go out to meet all those waiting to pick you up. We hand over our passports, and the man looks at them, then he looks at us. Then he calls over someone else, and he looks at them, they talk in Spanish, which I don't speak, and I can see the one he called over shaking his head. I start to get nervous. I ask if there is a problem. He said, yes, I am sorry, ma'am, but your passport expires in less than 6 months. No, it does not expire until March of 2022 and we are in September of 2021. He explained that in order for me to enter the country, I have to be at least 6 months away from my expiration date. We looked at my passport, which expired on March 6th, and I landed on March 16th. He said they will only give a 10-day grace period, and I was already at my 10 days. Are you getting this? If I had traveled one week earlier, I would have been fine, but since my passport was going to expire in less than 6 months, 6 months, I couldn't stay. I had this sinking feeling in my stomach, and I asked what that meant. He said he was going to ask his supervisor, and he was going to try to see what he could do, but it probably meant that I would have to get back on a plane that night and go back to America. Joanie and I were so confused. We didn't know what to do. They asked if she wanted to stay, but she said she was with me; if I had to go, she was going home too. The man left us standing there for what felt like a really long time and went to talk to his supervisor. I told Joanie we needed to pray, and we both started to pray. We prayed that God would work some miracle. We prayed that we would get to go to the baptism. I pleaded with God, I begged Him to work his magic and not let them send me home. I praised God and thanked Him, I did and said everything I could think of in that moment, and you know what? It didn't work. The man came back and said he was really sorry, there was nothing he could do, we had to wait for someone from the airlines to come and escort us back to the other part of the airport so we could get on a plane and go back home. Go home without seeing my family, without a way of telling them what is going on, without seeing my niece being baptized. I was heartbroken, and so was Joanie. Even though we were heartbroken, do you know what I told Joanie? It's not too late. We are not back in America yet. We don't have a new ticket yet. We can't give up. Yes, we had done all we could humanly do to help ourselves, but God is the God of the impossible, and He is a way maker. He makes a way where there is no way. I had a chat with God. I told Him that I appreciated all He had done for us that day. I told him how extremely grateful I was that He saved Charlize and that I got to be her Godmother. I let Him know that if he wanted us to get on a plane and go back to America, then we would obey. I also told Him that I knew it wasn't too late for Him to fix this. I told Him I wasn't giving up on the idea that we would make it to the baptism. I told Him that I loved Him, that He is amazing, and that whatever He wanted in that moment was what we wanted. I said, Lord, we believe, help our unbelief. Then I prayed in the Spirit because, honestly, I had no idea what to pray for or what to say. I had no idea how the situation could be fixed, but I knew the Holy Spirit could convey the messages in my heart much better than I could. We sat there for about 20 minutes just waiting for someone from the airlines to come and get us so we could go back home. Then, all of a sudden, the man from passport control walked over, and he said they worked it out and they were going to let us go into the country. He said we were very lucky as they never do this, but they will make this one exception. He was surprised. I told him it wasn't luck, it was the power of prayer. I tell you, I have never been so excited to see my brother-in-law as I was that day walking through those passport control doors. God is so good! He really is. If you are listening to this podcast, then I know you already know this, but we should say it again and again. We should say it often because He really is that good. We don't just say He is the WayMaker, or the God of the Impossible, because it sounds good or because they are cool names. We say it because it is who God is. He really does make the impossible possible. He makes a way where there isn't one. There was no logical reason why they let me through that night. We should have been put on a plane and sent back to America, and yet that was not what God wanted, so He made a way for us to stay. I know you have seen similar things like this in your life. If you haven't, I don't think it's because they aren't happening; I think it's because you aren't looking for them. God is working in every detail of our lives. If we want to see Him working in our lives more, all we need to do is open our eyes more and look for Him. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

Mary-Ellen McTague is one of the driving forces behind Manchester's modern food scene: a chef, restaurateur and community builder whose cooking is rooted in place, craft and proper hospitality. In this episode, she joins the go-to food podcast to talk about the city she helped shape, the dishes she can't stop thinking about, and the hard-won lessons behind building restaurants that people genuinely love. Her story runs from cooking for touring bands at Manchester's Roadhouse as a student, to breaking barriers at the Michelin-starred Sharrow Bay Country House, and then into Heston Blumenthal's inner circle at The Fat Duck. From the intensity and precision of a two-then-three-star kitchen to an R&D role exploring Britain's food history at The Hind's Head, Mary-Ellen's career has been defined by curiosity, grit, and an obsession with flavour that actually means something.Back home, she became synonymous with Manchester's dining renaissance—opening trailblazing restaurants, earning national acclaim, and feeding not just thousands of happy punters, but (as the hosts proudly put it) well over 150,000 people across the city. She shares what it's really like to build a “rotation” of ambitious young chefs in Manchester, why a dish like Lancashire hotpot can carry identity and memory, and how her love of simple, brilliant produce started with a life-changing stint in rural Provence. The conversation also goes deeper: burnout, resilience, an ADHD diagnosis that “explained a lot,” and the purpose-led work of Eat Well MCR—turning surplus food and community energy into meals for people who need them most. Expect big laughs, kitchen war stories, and plenty of menu envy—especially when Mary-Ellen breaks down her PIP snack essentials and that signature hotpot (with oyster ketchup) that might just be the most “her” dish of all.Pre Order Ben's Incredible Book - All You Can Eat - By Clicking Here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-You-Can-Eat-British/dp/1805221523Get 2 Months of Blinq For Free - With Code - GOTOBLINQ - https://blinqme.com/Order The Greatest Meat In The Country From HG Walter Here & Have Restaurant Quality Meals From Home - www.hgwalter.com Hosted on Acast. When it comes to Mumford & Sons' new Prizefighter album, “I think this is the best music we've ever made,” Marcus Mumford declares to the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast. “I love it more than anything we've ever done.” Prizefighter is the band's sixth full-length studio effort and comes less than a year after its last set, March 2025's Rushmere. That's a fast turnaround for a group that historically has gone between two-and-a-half to six years between albums — but it was a chance meeting with writer/musician/producer Aaron Dessner that sparked the shortest wait between albums. This week on TOWTW Podcast, Chelsea introduces you to Julie—not as a team member or service provider, but as the kind of human who shows up in her pajamas at 4AM when you're collapsing. Julie is a clarity partner who creates the kind of space most people have never experienced, where your floodgates can finally open. She doesn't coach (Chelsea hates that word—it implies fixing). Instead, Julie witnesses, translates your nervous system's reactions into language you can understand, and helps you see what you're actually feeling underneath what you think you're feeling. Chelsea shares Julie's powerful piece "Last Hour of the Year"—a response to someone 16 months into an affair who crashed on New Year's Eve—demonstrating how Julie holds pain without judgment, reframes struggle without fixing it, and helps people see they're not regressing but standing at a threshold between surviving something and building towards something else.SUBMIT YOUR OWN STORYhttps://www.theotherwomanandthewife.com/submitHOW WE CAN HELPApply for 1:1 Coaching: https://towtw.com/coachingOUR LINKSWebsite: https://towtw.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theowandthewife/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theowandthewife

Andrea McGinty built what many people would call the ultimate success story: a booming global business, a high-profile marriage, and great kids. So why did midlife still ask her to stop and reconsider everything? Andrea talks about what it feels like when the life you built no longer matches the person you have become. We talk about intuition, values, second acts, and why clarity often arrives slowly, quietly, and from the inside out. If you have ever wondered whether it is possible to change course without burning everything down, this conversation will resonate deeply.Guest Bio Andrea McGinty's journey is as compelling as the love stories she's helped create. After being dumped at the altar in her 20s, founding It's Just Lunch Matchmaking in 1990 (before Google and online dating), and later navigating divorce after 24 years of marriage, Andrea took a four-year pause from dating to focus on raising her teenage daughter. When she decided to jump back into the dating world, she approached it strategically, and it paid off—her sixth first date turned into her husband, whom she married in Rome in 2024.As the founder of It's Just Lunch in the 1990s, Andrea revolutionized the matchmaking industry. Her innovative service grew to over 110 locations worldwide and facilitated over 33,000 setups, resulting in more than 10,000 marriages. Today, her company, 33,000 Dates, focuses on helping the over-45 crowd find love in the second act of their lives. Currently, 65% of her clients are in long-term relationships, a testament to her expertise and unique methods.Often referred to as the OG or “Godmother” of modern dating, Andrea's impact extends beyond her clients. Like an NFL coaching tree, more than 40% of today's top 25 matchmakers trace their roots back to Andrea's mentorship and pioneering techniques. Her influence has shaped the industry, creating a legacy that stands out in the world of matchmaking.Andrea's work has garnered extensive media attention. She has been featured on Oprah, People, Today Show, and named Entrepreneur of the Month on the Early Show. As a sought-after speaker, she has addressed audiences at the American Marketing Association and other prestigious events. Her insights and passion have made her a trusted voice in the realm of love and relationships. With over three decades of experience, Andrea doesn't just write about dating; she's lived it. Her latest book, 2nd Acts: Winning Strategies for Dating Over 50, combines personal anecdotes and professional expertise to guide singles on finding meaningful connections later in life. Andrea's vibrant, no-nonsense approach continues to inspire and empower those ready to embrace their second act with optimism and love.Turning 40 and realizing success is not the same as alignmentAndrea McGinty built one of the most successful dating companies in the world before most of us had email, Google, or any idea what online dating might become. But by midlife, the business she had poured herself into, along with the marriage built alongside it, no longer fit who she was becoming. Andrea shares what it was like to grow up as the oldest daughter in a big Irish Catholic family; launch It's Just Lunch with $3,000 and a dream;, navigate public success alongside private fear; and ultimately listen to the quiet inner voice that told her it was time for something different. Her midlife transition includes selling a global company, divorcing amicably, facing cancer, and stepping fully into a second act built around values, alignment, and deeply personal fulfillment.Episode HighlightsGrowing up as the oldest child in a large Irish Catholic family and how responsibility and resilience shaped Andrea early onLaunching It's Just Lunch...

Born Patricia Louise Holte in 1944 in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the woman we know as Patti LaBelle was raised in a large family as the second-youngest of five children. Her father worked on the railroad and performed in clubs, while her mother was a domestic worker. From a young age, Patti found solace and purpose in music — she joined her church choir at age 10 and by 12 was singing solo. Her early life wasn't easy. The marriage of her parents was troubled, and after her parents separated when she was 12, she experienced deep personal trauma. Yet despite hardship, she held onto music — both for comfort and as an outlet — listening to jazz, R&B and gospel as she grew up.In her mid-teens Patti began dreaming of making music beyond the church. By 1960, she formed a girl group called The Ordettes with friends at school. The next year members changed and the group evolved into Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles — soon to become simply Labelle in the '70s. The Bluebelles enjoyed moderate success: in '62 they scored a Top-20 hit. Later, they found acclaim covering classics like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” In the '70s Labelle's sound evolved. The group embraced funk, soul, and rock — culminating in the '74 smash hit Lady Marmalade. The song and its style cemented their place in music history. But amidst growing fame, internal tensions and changing musical landscapes led to the group's split in '77. That difficult moment became the launchpad for Patti's solo journey. Patti's debut solo album, simply titled Patti LaBelle, came out in '77. Her true breakthrough came mid-'80s. A string of hits turned Patti into a household name. 1986's album Winner in You — featuring the duet On My Own with Michael McDonald — topped U.S. charts and solidified her commercial success. In the '90s Patti continued to release albums. She earned a second and sold tens of millions of records worldwide.Patti's talents reach far beyond singing. Over the decades she's dabbled in acting and is also a successful author. Her 1996 memoir Don't Block the Blessings: Revelations of a Lifetime gives insight into her hardships, faith and perseverance. She later penned cookbooks, launched a food brand with frozen comfort foods, and her signature sweet-potato pies.Today Patti LaBelle shows no signs of slowing down. In 2024, she marked her 80th birthday by announcing a brand new album titled 8065 — a tribute to her 80 years alive and 65 years in show business. She's also hit the road with the “8065 Celebration Tour,” which will take her to audiences around the world — including stops planned for Australia and New Zealand early in 2026.At 81, Patti remains a powerhouse performer. Her message to fans? Age is just a number — and she's proof. Reflecting on her decades-long career, she recently said she feels blessed to still be “standing” — able to sing, walk, and create. Her fans, across generations, couldn't agree more. From “The Ordettes” to Stardom, this episode details the rise and rise of the legend we knowas Patti Labelle.Catch her on tour here:Jan 16 Rancho Mirage, CA, United StatesJan 17 Thunder Valley Casino Resort Lincoln, CA, Jan 20 Riverside Theatre Perth, AustraliaJan 22 Palais Theatre St Kilda, Jan 24 Adelaide Entertainment Centre Jan 25 Sydney Event Centre Jan 28 The Star Gold Coast Jan 30 The Civic Auckland, New ZealandFeb 12 Jacksonville, FL, Feb 13 Charlotte, NC, United StatesFeb 15 St Louis, MOFeb 19 New OrleansFeb 20 Houston, TXFeb 22 Fort Worth, TXMar 14 Westbury South, NY

Patti Smith, “the Godmother of Punk,” has lived a wild life and accumulated so much wisdom in the process. In the 1960s and '70s, Smith was a fixture of the New York City creative scene — hanging out with the likes of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Mapplethorpe. Merging her own poetry with an ace backing band, she became a global rock star. Then she gave it up, moved to Michigan, raised a family, and remade herself into a best-selling author. Her stunning memoir “Just Kids” won the National Book Award and is one of the books that I've kept returning to, again and again. There is clearly something unusual about Smith. People who know her have described her as “shamanistic.” But even for those of us who will never become rock stars, there's something inspiring — and oddly relatable — in how she thinks about life. So I was excited to have the opportunity to sit down with her and learn more.Smith is out with a new memoir, “Bread of Angels,” and is on tour for the 50th anniversary of her breakthrough album, “Horses.” We talk about that book and that album and so much more: the boundless curiosity that drives her; the books that shaped her; her childhood communion with a snapping turtle; what Andy Warhol was like; what color she thinks the soul is; and a lot more that's hard even to describe. This episode contains strong language.Mentioned:“Pan's Labyrinth” by Guillermo del ToroGrimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm GrimmBread of Angels by Patti SmithJust Kids by Patti Smith“The Dark Blot” by Gérard de Nerval“Genie” by Arthur Rimbaud“Guernica” by Pablo Picasso“The Last Supper” by Andy WarholBook Recommendations:The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo CollodiFrankenstein by Mary ShelleyThe Poetry of Sylvia Plath Edited by Claire Brennan2666 by Roberto BolañoThoughts? We're joined by Nancy Barile, award-winning author of "I'm Not Holding Your Coat", an insightful chronicle of her life as an OG Philadelphia/Boston punk who lived through the golden age of hardcore music as it evolved in real time before her eyes. The Ramones, Bad Brains, Misfits, Minor Threat, Black Flag... You name it, she saw it. We talk about the legendary brawl in Kensington, booking the infamous "Gathering of the Tribes" show, cold calling CBGBs to get bands booked, and bumping elbows with just about every legendary figure in hardcore punk, and much more. Her husband, the late great Al Barile of SSD, was a pioneer of the straight edge movement and a name brought up often on HardLore throughout the years. He sadly passed away in April of 2025, and we talk all about their chance meeting, his impact on us, and share stories of Al through the years and look back at his perception of how straight edge and hardcore music have grown since his early days in SSD. An incredibly informative and cathartic conversation and an episode we've wanted to make happen for a long time. Thank you Nancy for joining us and all of you for watching/listening. Hear interviews with members of the cast and creative team behind the Indianapolis Repertory Theatre's production of Marie and Rosetta —including actors Cherish Love, Jaela Cheeks-Lomax, and music director Morgan E. Stevenson. Marie and Rosetta, written by George Brant, explores the powerful artistic partnership between gospel music legends Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight. The production runs at the Indianapolis Repertory Theatre from October 28 through November 23. Born in Arkansas in 1915, Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a trailblazing guitarist and vocalist whose music fused the ecstatic spirit of gospel with the rhythmic drive of rhythm and blues — paving the way for rock and roll pioneers like Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, Tharpe is now widely celebrated as the Godmother of Rock and Roll. TMI? We don’t know her…! Welcome to the sh*t show! In this peri special episode, our host Claire Murphy sits down with journalist, author and your ‘Peri Godmother’ Shelly Horton to gossip about perimenopause. So, if this topic is lighting up your group chats, you’re in the right place… Shelly shares her unfiltered and raw story of being completely blindsided by perimenopause, from debilitating depression and anxiety to the armageddon period of all periods where she bled for 42 weeks of the year. Claire and Shelly play a round of "symptom bingo," and discuss Shelly’s harrowing story of how peri unleashed a crisis of confidence that went far beyond imposter syndrome. She tells all about this period of feeling her professional identity crumble while battling brain fog, anxiety and exhaustion. They also explore the crucial need for workplace education and the frustrating experience of being dismissed by doctors. AND they share how to find your "menopausal zest"—that incredible, freeing feeling that comes from joining the "we do not care club" and refusing to become invisible. This is a must-listen for evidence-based information wrapped in a story of resilience, humour, and the power of the sisterhood. THE END BITS All your health information is in the Well Hub. As Eric Adams says, New York is the Zagreb of America. People from all over the world come to New York to make their dreams come true. And sometimes, those dreams are illegal. Today we talk about the second indictment for longtime Adams consigliere Ingrid Lewis-Martin for taking a TV series cameo in exchange for impeding a street safety redesign that would have complicated access to co-defendants Gina and Tony Argento's Broadway Stages in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Other aides are swept up in that case too. And then there's Winnie Greco, Adams's longtime liaison to the Chinese-American community, who apparently tried to give approximately $140 to reporter Katie Honan of THE CITY, a sum that was placed in a red envelope stuffed inside an empty bag of potato chips.Greatest city in the world. In non-Eric Adams news, John Bolton's home outside Washington D.C. was raided by the FBI early Friday morning, apparently searching for classified documents. Ken and I discuss what showings the DOJ must have made to get the search warrant. Plus: Kilmar Abrego Garcia's arguments that he is being subjected to selective and vindictive prosecution, an appeals court in New York threw out the nearly half-billion dollar disgorgement penalty against Trump and his businesses, Newsmax will pay $67 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle defamation litigation about the 2020 election, and a judge's decision that Alina Habba isn't the US Attorney for New Jersey, and we look at a favorable ruling for the beleaguered Media Matters for America.Visit serioustrouble.show for a transcript of this episode.
