Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer: Maxi Moralez returned from injury as a halftime substitute to help spark New York City FC to a 3-1 win over Chicago Fire FC Saturday at Red Bull Arena. Moralez’s impact was felt almost immediately, serving up the assist on Anton Tinnerholm’s eventual game-winning goal in the 53rd minute. It was the seventh assist in as many all-time appearances against the Fire for Moralez, who has been sidelined by a nagging calf injury suffered at the MLS is Back Tournament last month. Tinnerholm took a settling first touch and finished clinically inside the far post to break the stalemate in the 53rd minute. Keaton Parks opened the scoring in the 16th minute, equalling his goal total from a year ago. The midfielder received the ball in the box from an Alexandru Mitrita service and guided his low shot inside the far post. Parks paid tribute to “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, who died Friday, with a “Wakanda Forever” celebration. Four minutes later, Maxime Chanot headed off the post after latching onto Jesus Medina’s corner kick. Mauricio Pineda leveled in first-half stoppage time with the unmarked rookie tapping past Sean Johnson after Francisco Calvo flicked on Alvaro Medran’s corner kick. The Fire nearly equalized a second time in the 74th minute, but Alex Callens cleared Elliot Collier’s attempt off the line after Johnson initially misplayed. A minute later, Alex Ring scored for a second consecutive game off an assist from Tinnerholm to put the game away. Columbus had a first-half goal by Gyasi Zardes called off when Derrick Etienne was offside on the service. Pedro Santos came close to the equalizer in the 82nd minute, but Sean Johnson dived to parry it out for a corner kick. Fanendo Adi appeared to score the tying goal in stoppage time, but it was the second goal waved off for offside. QUOTES NYCFC Head Coach Ronny Deila: On bringing Maxi on at the half instead of later... "Maybe we wanted to wait a bit, but I think we needed to make some changes in the second half to get three points. Today is the first time that I have seen Maxi so fresh. You can see that he has no pain, and you can also see how good he is and how vital he is for the team. We created a lot of chances and played a really good second half. I am eager to see the future but just want to play games now." NYCFC Defender Anton Tinnerholm: On just wanting to keep moving after difficult results this season... "We had a rough start, there’s no doubt about it. We had a lot of meetings and things got better. But in the end we have to show it on the pitch. It is easy to talk but harder to perform out there. We showed it today and we showed it against Columbus that we can do it. I think the second half we were dominating the game; the Chicago players were so exhausted in the final 15 minutes that they can’t even press us. It reminds me of some games from last season, so we have to keep on doing what we did in the second half here. Now we have some confidence, you can see it in the guys. It’s fun to come in a play some games again, now we have to keep on the momentum that we have started." NYCFC Midfielder Maxi Moralez: On getting back on the field after injury... "At the beginning in Orlando I felt really good, but then I got the injury and wasn't able to recover until today. I'm really happy with everyone that helped me recover. Today I played well. Together we played well. My leg is a lot better and I recovered quicker than I hoped and now I'm 100 percent and ready for Wednesday's game [against New England]." New England Revolution 0, New York City FC 2 | 2020 MLS Match Recap New York City FC earned their second-ever win at Gillette Stadium — snapping New England Revolution's seven-game unbeaten streak in the process — with a 2-0 victory. New York City FC dominated the first half and had several opportunities with dangerous set pieces, but weren't able to find the back of the net. New England goalkeeper Matt Turner had a fantastic reaction save in the 14th minute off one of NYCFC's corners to keep the clean sheet for his side going into halftime. Bruce Arena made two substitutions, giving the Revs a little more life coming into the second 45 minutes, but NYCFC got on the board first in the 60th minute. Anton Tinnerholm crossed a pass into the box to Heber and Michael Mancienne slid to defend the pass but ended up putting it in the back of the net for an own goal. A little more than 10 minutes later, Heber gets his first goal of the season off a NYCFC corner kick from Ronald Matarrita. At the final whistle, NYCFC took all three points in Foxborough. New York City FC travels to Houston to face the Dynamo and fall flat to a tune of 3-1. An early goal from David Villa and an outstanding performance from Sean Johnson is about all the positives we can take from this match which leaves us all with more unanswered questions. What's the reason for this sudden poor performance by NYCFC? Does it have anything to do with Patrick Vieira apparatenyl leaving for Nice? What's the lineup going to look like now with Rodney Wallace, Ronald Matarrita, Jo Inge Berget and Yangel Herrera not being part of the squad for a couple of weeks and months. We talk this plus the Orlando City SC match coming up, US Open Cup draw against the New York Red Bulls, UEFA Champions League final and your awesome twitter questions!

Welcome to the NYCFC Nation Podcast! Yup you read that right. The NYCFC Fan Podcast and NYCFC Nation are now one and the same with the podcast. We are very excited about this announcement coming right at the end of the year and look forward to an amazing 2017. After our discussion about gift giving during the holidays, the evolution of Christmas light decorations and announcing that Chris M is now officially a member of NYCFC Nation we actually go through a ton of topics all related to New York City FC. We start with the MLS Draft and the fact that not one player was selected from NYC's list of unprotected players. We discuss Mix Diskerud's no trade clause and review the two new players that have recently joined NYCFC in Sean Okoli and Sean Everet Johnson. With the acquisition of Sean Johnson that gives New York City a roster of 4 goal keepers. Who is going to start the first match and who is going to be traded? The MLS came out with a list of available free agent players. Should anyone on this list be targeted by NYC? What's going on with Ronald Matarrita's contract and the interest he's receiving from other Clubs? Rumors are out that NYCFC is eyeing Danish midfielder Jeppe Andersen. Plus a lot more, enjoy. In today's episode we discuss a wide range of New York City FC, league and world news. We start off by paying our respects to Associação Chapecoense de Futebol and everyone who was on Flight 2933. We send our condolences to all involved in this tragic event. With regards to NYCFC news we begin on the new contracts that were recently given to Mikey Lopez and Ethan White plus a full transfer of Shannon Gomez. We also have players who have not resigned with the team in Connor Brandt, Jason Hernandez, Diego Martinez and Tony Taylor. Could any of these players be resigned "on the cheap" by NYC? Let's also not forget Federico Bravo and Stiven Mendoza whose loans have expired and not renewed. Next on the lineup is the match up between Toronto FC and Montreal Impact. The game was taking place during the recording and we learned that Toronto will move on to the final facing the Seattle Saunders FC. Does Toronto FC have enough to finish off Seattle to give NYCFC a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League? There has been reports circulating that Hamburger SV and Borussia Dortmund are interested in Ronald Matarrita. Is this good news? Can NYC afford to lose him? If Matarrita does leave is he replaceable? Chris P created an amazing article discussing possible new players that could join NYCFC in the new season. We each discuss one player on that list we feel could be an important part of the team move forward. If you haven't seen that article, you can read it here [Scouting NYCFC's Next DP Signing]. Wrapping up the show we discuss the recent issues New York Cosmos LLC are having with managing their front office and club, Adrian Heath signed as Minnesota United FC's head coach, Sporting Kansas City extends Peter Vermes, Bruce Arena with the United States Mens Nations Team and finally Don Garber has a town hall meeting in Cincinnati. Today's episode Chris P @NYCFCFan and Chris M @_ChrisFC who we all know as Perpetual Student on the NYCFC sub-reddits joins the show to discuss the historic first playoff match New York City FC had against Toronto FC. After the 2-0 loss many questions popped up in regards to Patrick Vieira's decision before and during the match. These questions all start off with Patrick's starting 11 lineup choice. We provide our input as to why Patrick started Mikey Lopez, Federico Bravo, Eirik Johansen and how all three fared. During one portion of the game David Villa is seen in mid-air kicking a Toronto FC players back. The ref did not call a foul but upon review the MLS still did not suspend Villa for that incident. Why not? Where there's smoke there fire....but did a only-players meeting really take place between New York City FC even after many players themselves said it never happened? Chris P also goes in depth about his experience at the press box section in BMO Field and the poor food options there. Leg 2 against Toronto FC is Sunday at 6:30pm. It's a big day for New York City FC as it's the first home playoff match and the first ever playoff match played in New York for an MLS team! Can NYCFC make it to the next round? How will public transportation be with the New York City Marathon taking place the same day? Another topic on our miscellaneous bucket is the #suppportyourcity movement you see all across social media. It's great promotion and a good step to creating a better relationship with political figures and the men and women who service our City. Especially when we need to find a place to build a stadium. We wrap up the show mentioning the National call ups Ronald Matarrita and Tony Taylor both have for their respective countries. Jack Harrison being protected from the expansion draft due to his graduation from Generation Adidas and the yearly honors the MLS gives away in which Villa, Frank Lampard and Harrison have been nominated. Oh and we play Trick or Treat with a couple of questions. 90 Shades of Blue: Recapping our New York City FC in 90 seconds. In front of over 25 thousand fans New York City and FC Dallas played a not so pretty game ending at 2-2. In the 8th minute Tommy McNamara tapped in a shot to put NYC up 1-0 with a great feed by Ronald Matarrita and amazing header pass by Jack Harrison. Great Awareness and team work! Twelve minutes later, Dallas’ Maximiliano Urruti burns our defense and forces a shot into the net that Saunders could not deflect enough to tie the match at 1-1. Tied 1-1 at the half, City gave up an early goal when Michael Barrios is kept on sides AND much like McNamara’s first goal, easily taps it in. Dallas goes up 2-1. Though don’t count City out, not with fresh cut Shelton coming off the bench, when in the 78th minute Khiry slams in a beautiful header to tie the game 2-2 and all credit goes to Mr Jack Harrison who lobbed a beautiful cross into the box. End of game 2-2. Quick Points: Our fan base either likes or dislikes Mendoza. He certainly didn’t help himself when he missed a huge opportunity in the 93rd minute. Thankfully it was only to WIN the game, imagine if it was to tie. Great game by McNamara offensively. Yes I like McNamara starting over Mendoza and he nearly got another goal off corner kick during the second half. He was also the player defending Urruti on Dallas’ first goal and he was the man who kept Barrios on-sides for Dallas’ second goal. Talking about Poor game defensively…Jefferson Mena…gosh. The Colombian homer in me is fading for him. Should Hernandez start over Mena moving forward? I say no. What do you think? Hate on Josh Saunders as much as you want but this game he came through. The biggest of saves was against Tesho Akindele in the 90th minute which would of made it 3-2 for Dallas. Don’t forget to follow the podcast on Twitter @NYCFCPodcast and myself @TheAndresSoto Week Wrap up: NYC stays in 3rd place in the Eastern Division with 45 points and with a negative 1 goal differential. Toronto clinched a playoff spot with their 3-3 tie against the Red Bulls leaving them in first with 47 points and New Jersey in second with 45. Both teams have a positive 12 goal differential. Philadelphia who lost against Portland stays in 4th place and 4 points behind New York City. NYC's next game is Friday, September 23 vs. Chicago Fire who are currently in last place in the Eastern Division.
