Orlando City SC found a new way to win last Wednesday, falling behind 2-0 to the Seattle Sounders — a team the Lions had never previously beaten — and then rallying back from two goals down to win, 3-2. That happened despite Mauricio Pereyra missing a penalty kick in the first half that would have pulled the Lions level before the break. The team continues to show resiliency and found a way to win despite rotating the squad and falling behind. We break down Orlando's fourth consecutive victory and second straight at home and make our selections for Man of the Match. Another Lion made MLS Team of the Week, so we mentioned that as well. Benji Michel dropped by to talk about the team's U.S. Open Cup final tonight against Sacramento Republic, which is a special moment for the Orlando native and OCSC Homegrown Player. He also touched on the team's ongoing winning streak and why the team just keeps finding ways to win at the end of games in recent weeks. Big thanks to Benji for his time. The Orlando Pride were off this week but they'll be back in action Friday night at home in a critical match against the Portland Thorns. Every point is precious if the Pride are to keep their postseason hopes alive for 2022. OCB, however, is officially eliminated from playoff contention after the Young Lions fell 2-0 at New England Revolution II. It's been a bit of an up-and-down first season in MLS NEXT Pro for OCB but hopefully the player development side will pay dividends. This week's mailbag invited us for drinks, asked us about tifos, and wants our advice on pregame festivities. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's U.S. Open Cup final against Sacramento Republic FC and Saturday's road game at the Philadelphia Union. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 310 went down: 0:15 - The Lions picked up their first win against Seattle in dramatic fashion. 25:10 - Benji Michel hops on to discuss the cup final tonight, what this moment means to him, and the team's recent form. 37:20 - We touch on the Pride and OCB, answer our mail, and make our predictions for two huge matches coming up this week. In just over 24 hours, Orlando City SC will be taking on the Sacramento Republic in the US Open Cup Final! Orlando City President of Business Operations Jarrod Dillon joins the show to talk about what it would mean for the club to win this tournament, all the festivities planned for the night and more.
Hey, soccer fans! It was a wild, wild weekend for the Western Conference, we have midweek matches to discuss, and some teams may have played themselves out of the playoffs. In tonight's show, we take a look at the results and what they mean for the playoffs. Who is in, who is out, and who will be a top 4 seed. We also break down the news and headlines from around American soccer. In the 2nd half of the show, we continue our team profiles with Orlando City SC. The Lions have been a team of underwhelming offense this season, but are playing for a US Open Cup trophy and are pushing may be coming into form for the playoffs thanks to Pereyra, Gallese, Gioacchini, Pato, Kara, Akindele, Junior Urso, Torres, and manager Oscar Pareja. Thanks for listening and for all your support! Be sure to Rate & Review and Like & Subscribe! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mike-guglielmi0/support
Orlando City SC extended its winning streak to a season-best three games but that almost didn't happen. Tesho Akindele's header deep in stoppage time turned a good performance with a meh result into a good performance with a great result at the death. Tesho is making late game-winning goals a habit and that's one that we hope he just can't quit. David Rohe and I are breaking down the latest win by the Lions — at home, no less! — and make our selections for Man of the Match. We also talked about the Lions who were honored this week with an appearance on the MLS Team of the Week. While the Lions finally got a streak going, the Orlando Pride saw theirs come to an end. The seven-game unbeaten run was halted in the 92nd minute on Friday night by Megan Rapinoe, who lifted OL Reign to a late 2-1 win over the Pride at Exploria Stadium. It was a massive game as far as playoff implications and a match the Pride really could have used as a springboard above the postseason line. Alas... Orlando City B split the difference between the senior side and the Pride, with a 2-2 draw Monday night at Osceola County Stadium against FC Cincinnati 2. The Young Lions got a brace from teenage sensation Favian Loyola but it wasn't enough for the win. To make matters worse, the visitors won the post-draw penalty shootout, 7-6, to claim an additional point in the standings. Loyola's brace was a fantastic celebration of the MLS NEXT Pro contract he had signed earlier in the day. We look forward to seeing how that young man develops as a player over the coming years. This week's mailbag asked us about Welcome to Wrexham, Only Murders in the Building, the choice we'd make between a cup final appearance and home-field advantage in the MLS playoffs, and the biopics we'd like to see. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming match tonight at home against the Seattle Sounders. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 309 went down: 0:15 - The Lions might not exactly have gotten “hot,” but they have picked up some wins and it's always nice to beat New York City FC. 27:31 - The Pride did not win or draw. This displeases us. OCB did not win but did draw. That's fine. 41:29 - We answer our mail and make our predictions for the Lions against the Sounders in a midweek tilt. What a week. Just days after flying high following a massive road win against New York City FC, Charlotte FC comes crashing down to Earth with a disappointing home loss to Orlando City SC. David and Matt are back to break down just what happened in that match, look ahead to this weekend's match against Toronto FC and reassess the Crowns' playoff chances. We also share some breaking news about the Andre Shinyashiki situation and dispel rumors about his lack of playing time.
Orlando City SC went a second straight week without any of its three teams suffering a defeat. Although it would be foolish to get used to that, it feels kind of great and if it continued, I'd never complain about it. The Lions went to North Carolina — and so did I — and brought home all three points after a 2-1 win against expansion side Charlotte FC, getting a season sweep by the same scoreline. We break down Orlando City's second consecutive road victory — which included the return of Ercan Kara — and make our selections for Man of the Match. We also discussed the surgery Alexandre Pato will have in his native Brazil and the chances we'll ever see the Duck in purple again. Next up for the Lions is fellow 2015 MLS expansion rival New York City FC but Orlando will be without midfield maestro Mauricio Pereyra (due to yellow card suspension). The Pride stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches, matching the club's second-longest such streak in its history. Orlando went on the road and beat Gotham FC 2-1 with new striker Ally Watt providing the margin of victory. The team has managed to crawl within a few points of the playoff line and if Seb Hines can continue to will his team on to a few more results, a disastrous start to the season will be long forgotten. Orlando's NWSL side also added a defender to the roster this week. Haley Hanson has joined the club to provide more depth to a Pride team that appears to have fewer holes now than when the season began. OCB played twice since our last show and managed to get two results, defeating Rochester New York FC and drawing Columbus Crew 2. The 5-2 win over Rochester was assisted by several first-team players and I'm not saying Tesho Akindele's goal for OCB led to his game winner on Sunday night, but I'm also not not saying it. The kids played against Crew 2 on the weekend and got a 2-2 home draw despite seeing two players sent off. This week's mailbag asked us to provide kickball walk-up music for several Orlando City players and we did just that. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming match this Sunday night at home against New York City FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 308 went down: 0:15 - The Lions got the season sweep over Charlotte with a win on the fake plastic grass of Bank of America Stadium. 33:54 - The Pride made it two straight wins by dispatching Gotham. 59:59 - We answer our mail and make our predictions for the Lions against NYCFC. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Orlando City SC had a rare nine-point weekend across the three teams and, for the first time in history, the Lions, Pride, and OCB all won without conceding a goal on the same weekend. The Young Lions got things started with a 2-0 win at New York City FC II, followed by Orlando City's 1-0 win at the New York Red Bulls, and capped by the Pride's 1-0 win at San Diego Wave FC. That doesn't mean it was a perfect weekend of soccer (said the Manchester United fan), but the results from the club — three wins out of three —- were as good as you can get. Dave Rohe and I break down Orlando City's 1-0 win at New York, which included a heartbreaking injury to Alexandre Pato. While the severity isn't known at the time of this writing, things don't sound promising. We selected our Man of the Match (this time we weren't unanimous) and talked about Facundo Torres' weekly honor. The Orlando Pride not only extended their unbeaten streak, they even got a win instead of another draw. Meggie Dougherty Howard's penalty kick goal was enough to lift the Pride to a win over a lot of their former teammates who now ply their trade in San Diego. Alex Morgan looked particularly dangerous all night but generously rocked the woodwork instead of scoring. Seb Hines' bunch are fun to watch and if they can find just a little bit more quality, they could even flirt with a potential playoff spot as the season winds down. To that end, the Pride added speedy forward Ally Watt from OL Reign this week, and Haley Brugeja finally made the match day squad, so Hines might have some attacking reinforcements arriving to help the squad try to get to that next level. OCB bounced back from last week's loss by beating NYCFC II behind Jack Lynn's brace. And while Dave and I don't share some folks' enthusiasm for letting Lynn play for the first team just quite yet, we do enjoy seeing the rookie put the ball in the net for the Young Lions. This week's mailbag asked us whether Hines is the Pride's version of Ted Lasso and how we would sort Orlando City players into the various houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming match this Sunday night on the road in North Carolina against Charlotte FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 307 went down: 0:15 - The Lions attempted only two shots, but one of them went in and that was enough. 26:16 - The Pride just keep finding ways to get results and they're about to add another forward. Plus, OCB got a win away from home. 53:21 - We answer our mail and make our predictions for the Lions against Charlotte. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
