The Mane Land: for Orlando City SC fans

Welcome to the second episode of The Mane Land PawedCast this week! We're still adjusting to our twice-a-week system, so we apologize that this show is a teeny smidge past an hour long. Our goal is to keep both episodes each week at around 45 minutes or less. It's a process and it will become more fluid. We might need to move the mailbagbox to the first show of the week to get the balance right. We'll keep working on it for you. If you missed it, we gave our Orlando Pride coverage its own dedicated show, and the first episode of SkoPurp Soccer: An Orlando Pride PawedCast went live on Wednesday. We started this show off with discussion of The Beautiful Game, an exhibition match coming to Exploria Stadium this summer. We already know Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos will be there, and more star players will be announced in the coming weeks. We welcomed Alan Van Wyk from Northland Soccer Journal (formerly E Pluribus Loonum but now an independent site like ours) to get inside the goings on at Minnesota United, a club that Orlando City has not met on the pitch since the MLS is Back Tournament semifinals back in 2020. Alan was kind enough to answer our questions and some from our Founders as well. This week's mailbagbox asked us where we'd go on the road if all expenses were paid. We did take economics into account in our response. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us anything by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City at Minnesota United, including our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's match. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 335 went down: 0:15 – The Beautiful Game is coming to Orlando's Exploria Stadium and we know two players who will participate. The rest is still up in the air, but we suspect a Kaká appearance might happen. 12:15 – Alan Van Wyk jumps on with us to catch us up with what's going on with Minnesota United, although he couldn't tell us much about the bizarre Emmanuel Reynoso saga. 38:28 – The mailbagbox get opened and we dive into our thoughts ah Learn more about your ad choices. We're back! After a long delay due to COVID-19, nationwide protests for racial justice, and the attempted overthrow of one of our branches of government, we start off strong with Dave Clark, broadcast voice for the Tacoma Defiance and Sounder at Heart contributor, recapping the challenges faced by both the Defiance and the Sounders in 2020 during their respective seasons. Dave also writes about Dungeons & Dragons on his blog, Full Moon Storytelling, including a very interesting write-up on how to incorporate sports play into your D&D game. The MLS is Back Tournament (or the COVID Cup as we so lovingly dubbed it) was conducted in Orlando from July 8 – August 11 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. While overall the tournament can be viewed as a successful employment of the “bubble” format we saw throughout professional sports including the NWSL (first successful league to “bubble” in Herriman, UT) and the NBA (also in Orlando at the WWofS). MLS would also return to play post MLS is Back tournament in a regional format that was intended to minimize travel for teams due to the soaring COVID-19 infection rates nationwide. We discuss the challenges of the return to play, the things we missed the most, and how young player development was affected due to the difference in safety protocols between MLS and the USL Championship. What are the teams' needs as we head into 2021? The Sounders did not activate options on a lot of players that have been key components for the team over the past few seasons leaving some obvious, and maybe not so obvious, holes in the roster. We also discuss the success of the Sounders as an org in the following of COVID-19 procedures in comparison to other leagues and other teams in Washington. Also, Schmetz is staying put in Seattle and it appears Gonzo Pineda is as well after being on the short list to take over for DC United. We discuss the merits of Brian Schmetzer and his importance to the Sounders organization and their success since he took over as head coach. We close it out with our best/worst case scenarios in regard to the upcoming 2021 season.Regular featured cast:@muffintopmodel Tim Hamilton@podfish Steve Ketelsen@jm_murf John Murphy@nate_bowling Nathan Bowling (emeritus & occasional)@cm_peterson Cat Peterson (hiatus)Please tell your friends and SUBSCRIBE! on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, or touch the RSS feed link below to add us to your favorite podcast app. This production of the Flounders B-Team is released under the Creative Commons 3.0 International Share-Alike Attribution License. Episode 41 looks at the sports, while not the most important thing during a pandemic, they sports serve many functions in Florida. They provide recreation, distraction, employ thousands and impact local economies. One pro sports league made its comeback this week. Camron Lunn has more on Major League Soccer's MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando (01:38). The news isn't all good for some sports. While Major League Baseball will attempt to come back this month, Minor League Baseball had to cancel its season. Taylor Levesque spoke to players who told her the decision was upsetting (06:08). While the pros and semi-pros come to grips with their stunted or lost seasons, Gabriella Paul gives us a look inside how Florida athletes at the amateur levels of high school and college plan to navigate a fall sports season amid the curve ball coronavirus has thrown their way (09:21). In some counties, high school sports like football are still up in the air for the fall. But Anthony Montalto ask if there's no football, what about the marching band (15:27)? While high schools work out the kinks on their return plans some youth sports are already making a comeback. Taylor Levesque spoke to Gainesville Soccer Alliance Recreational Director, Sandi Rivera, who says she is excited for the kids to take the field again but wants everyone to know there will be changes to the upcoming soccer season (20:12). And what about casual athletes missing their gym routines. Most gyms are open but gyms in Miami, a hotspot for the virus, are now having to adapt as they stay open under new safety protocols. Melissa Feito spoke to Tongelia Milton, executive director of communications for the YMCA of South Florida, which includes 10 locations across Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties about getting their gyms back up and running after several months of closure (23:19). This podcast serves to provide updates on Florida's response to coronavirus, with a particular focus on north central Florida.
