Sin. S-I-N. It's a simple three letter word. But unfortunately, it often serves at the root for everything that is negative in our lives. In what can only be described as a conscious transgression against God's will and our established moral standards, sin finds its way into our well-intentioned lives through lust, lying, hatred, and even jealousy. Here are but a few tangible examples of how sin can permeate our souls without even realizing it: - Hatred toward people who “deserve” it.- Apathy toward God or those around us.- Oversensitivity to what others say or think of you.- Thinking you have more knowledge, are better looking, and more superior than anyone else around you.- Following rules is more important than loving others. Author Karl Clauson believes that sin is literally killing us. Most would agree that sin doesn't lead to anything productive in our lives. But how can we take hold of God's promises and walk in freedom – not just a temporary fix but as a sustained, lasting victory? In his latest book, “Killing Sin: Conquer the One Thing That is Defeating You”, Clauson outlines behavioral habits that hold us back, an understanding of how we can change, and key strategies for winning the war against sin that are grounded in Scripture. Simply put, sin separates us from God. And the Moody Radio host shows you how to successfully fight temptation and overcome the sin in your life. Clauson joins me to chat about why so many people struggle to overcome bad habits or sin in their life. Listen as he shares the difference between recognizing our sin, owning our sin, and what we can do about it to live more fulfilling lives.
9-16-25 A water break sponsored by the Water Authority & Coach Eck is not satisfied yet after defeating UCLA on Friday Night
The sermon explores the nature of spiritual opposition, drawing from Daniel 10 to illustrate the conflict between angelic beings and demonic forces, emphasizing the importance of avoiding occult involvement and resisting the devil through faith. It highlights the necessity of overcoming the sins of the flesh by recognizing their depravity, appropriating Christ's death, and walking in the Spirit, ultimately advocating for a proactive stance against spiritual warfare rooted in union with Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and fortified by God's armor and prayer, to ensure victory over demonic influence and maintain spiritual strength.
As Trump's tyrannical assault on liberty continues to expand, it's time to accept the fact that the only way to defeat him is through a little rebellion.
In this episode, Ricky and Bonnie talk about strongholds and how they often arise in our lives and how we tend to feed them, but, conversely, how we can, with God's power, work to defeat them in our lives. 1. Trip Recap & Foreign Relations El Salvador:Cruz praises President Nayib Bukele for drastically reducing homicide rates by aggressively targeting gangs like MS-13 and 18th Street. He contrasts El Salvador’s success with U.S. crime and immigration challenges. Panama:He toured the Panama Canal and highlighted U.S. concerns about China’s growing influence there, including ports, bridges, and tunnels near the canal. Cruz warns that China could disrupt canal traffic in a future conflict, threatening U.S. national and economic security. Mexico:Cruz met with senior Mexican officials (Foreign Secretary, Defense Secretary, Agriculture Secretary). He urged cooperation on border security and dismantling drug cartels, stressing Trump’s policies and a reported 99% drop in illegal border crossings. Mexican leaders, including President Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected U.S. military involvement, citing “sovereignty.” Cruz compared Mexico’s stance to El Salvador’s crackdown and Colombia’s Plan Colombia (early 2000s), arguing that success requires political will. He warned that if Mexico refuses, the U.S. may still act militarily against cartels under Trump’s leadership. 2. Domestic Politics & Crime Cruz and Ferguson shift focus to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, criticizing him for downplaying crime in Chicago. Cruz cites statistics on Chicago’s murder rate (highest in the U.S. for 13 consecutive years) and argues Democrats prioritize criminals over victims. He frames Democrat policies in Illinois, California, and nationally as failures comparable to Mexico’s refusal to confront cartels. 3. Broader Political Commentary Cruz claims Democrats have become the “party of criminals,” siding with offenders over law-abiding citizens. He notes polling showing Americans are highly concerned about crime in cities. Discussion touches on 2025 midterm elections: Republicans may benefit from Democrat extremism. But Cruz worries about a GOP “enthusiasm gap,” citing a special election loss in Iowa. He stresses the need for Republican voter turnout despite Trump’s early policy “successes.” Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. Welcome to the Two Words Series from Palm Harvest Church in Costa Mesa, CA! In this powerful episode, recorded on August 31, 2025, Lead Pastor Dr. Mike Decker delivers a transformative sermon titled "Defeating Sin." Ever feel like life's hardships have you hiding away, just trying to survive? In this episode, Dr. Mike Decker, Lead Pastor of Palm Harvest Church in Costa Mesa, California, dives into the biblical story of Gideon from Judges 6. For seven long years, the Israelites endured oppression from the Midianites, reduced to starvation and secrecy—threshing crops in hidden winepresses to avoid raids. Pastor Mike unpacks how sin led to this season of suffering, the two perspectives we often take (ours vs. God's), and the powerful choice to confess, step in, and rely on God's strength instead of our own. Drawing from Psalm 32 and Gideon's fleece test, you'll get practical insights on overcoming the seven deadly sins, shifting your worldview, and thriving amid trials. Whether you're in a tough spot or preparing for one, this message will encourage you to call out to God today. For more resources and to join us in person or online, visit http://www.palmharvest.com. In impossible situations, God can move in unimaginable ways.
In the first sermon in our summer series John MacArthur reminds us of the problem of discontentment, showing how anxiety and comparison thrive when our trust shifts from God's promises to worldly desires. Drawing from Philippians 4, we learn how to defeat discontentment by grounding our peace in God's promises, not our situation. For more information on Grace Community Church or to hear more messages from John MacArthur, visit https://gracechurch.org
