It's a nice long episode for you this week as we find ourselves in the darkest days of our beloved team's history. Misery loves company, right? We start off with postgame audio from Johnny Russell and the most ridiculous stat you've heard all year. Gadi Kinda made his MLS debut in a 2-0 home loss to CF Montreal. Is he going to save us? As always, we try to make things fun during these troubling times. Cody has the Top 5 Jettisoned Players and we do some reminiscing in the wake of Ben Sweat's swift departure. Peter Vermes responded to the "Vermes Out" chants from the Cauldron. The players on the field looked defeated and it begs the question... is it possible Vermes could lose the locker room? The Cauldron has fallen to a really sad state. Saturday was the most lifeless and sad we've ever seen the section formerly known as The Blue Hell. Cauldron leadership has remained silent while the fans themselves are up in arms. It's time to let it be formally known that the current state of Sporting KC is unacceptable to the fans who love this club the most. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

S2E21 - For the Glory KC is back with the 28th episode of the show! Finally, a Kansas City soccer team has won while this podcast existed! Congrats to the KC Current. On this week's episode, we do a little time travel and record over two days with these midweek games messing with our regular schedule (who are we kidding, we love more soccer). The first chunk is about Sporting KC and was recorded on Tuesday night. We preview the matchup with the New England Revolution (if you prefer to read your previews, I've got you covered there too). Plus, we talk Ben Sweat signing with the Revs. Then, since we forgot to ask you all mailbag questions, we ask each other questions! Then we transition to the shocking news of the week and discuss the firing of Kansas City Current head coach Matt Potter after an 0-3-0 start to the season. Is there more to the firing? Then we talk about the win over the Houston Dash by the Current and give the world's quickest preview to the Orlando Pride game on Sunday. Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times): We preview Sporting KC vs. New England - 2:28 Q&A- 18:30 Matt Potter Fired - 29:13 KC Current beat Houston - 35:24 Mini KC Current vs. Orlando Preview - 41:15 Digital Crawl - 47:01 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/support
The players knew it, the club knew it, and the fans knew it. The match against the Colorado Rapids was a massive chance to get the first win of the season and get things going in the right direction. And they failed. It's a new low point for the club, which we had hoped was found last year. Sporting KC now sits in last place of MLS after a 1-0 loss at home. The departure of Ben Sweat, and the first start of Alan Pulido, ended up as more of the same. The most loyal fans, including ourselves, are fed up. While there may be a handful of positives to hang your hat on, like Danny Rosero and the defense, there isn't much to inspire belief this season can be salvaged. Learn more about your ad choices. S2E18 - On this week's second episode, Sheena and I preview this weekend's home game between Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids (if you preview to read, I wrote a preview too). Both teams enter the match fighting to not be in the lead for the wooden spoon. But before we get to the preview, we have to talk about the big news that Ben Sweat is no longer on the team. We also answer your mailbag questions! Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times): A player is released - 2:42 Sporting KC vs Colorado preview - 11:59 Mailbag - 20:10 Digital Crawl - 31:37 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/support
Peter Vermes was pissed, and he wanted to see a reaction in SKC's next match against Philadelphia. Drew and Cody discuss that reaction, which was definitely an improvement over the previous match vs. Seattle, as well as a potential light at the end of the tunnel regarding the future effectiveness of the midfield, namely Nemanja Radoja at the 6. Dany Rosero jumped off the plane and into the starting lineup and did an admirable job all things considered. You can see why SKC wanted to sign him and we expect to see plenty more of him in the future. Ben Sweat was a casualty of some mistake ridden play early this season and the signing of Tim Leibold. He had an opportunity to make a case for his continued inclusion in this team and unfortunately did not take advantage of it. The SKC Academy and Pro Player Pathway have been fairly inept of late in bringing forward key youth talent. We discus the current state of the academy system, our thoughts on how it is being managed, and whether we feel the club is taking it seriously or has the right personnel in place to make it effective. The KC Current are struggling with their own cadre of injuries and we chat about their prospects as the NWSL season gets into its 3rd weekend. Finally, a quick preview of this weekend's matchup at the bottom of the Western Conference. Perhaps with SKC facing a team with similar struggles to themselves they can find a way to their first victory of the year. Music by The Spin Wires
Steeeve and Logan break down ANOTHER 0-0 draw for our KC Wiz in this week's episode. Steeeve mentions why he thinks its still a positive, despite not scoring, and Logan explains why Khiry Shelton is no longer eligible for NVP. We also break down the best of the rest from around the league, and, as always, give you our Good, Bad, and Ugly. *Side note* This was recorded Monday evening, and at the time Ben Sweat had not been released by the team. This happened on Tuesday. Which we literally said would happen in this episode. Dont forget to RATE us on Spotify, Apple, or Amazon!!!
Peter Vermes spoke very openly about his team after a 4-1 loss to Seattle Sounders. We listen to audio and it seems quite clear he is referring to Ben Sweat who, on top of a red card, had another very poor performance. Everywhere you look on the field in this match, SKC fell short. The attack was nonexistent outside of another lone, fortunate goal. The midfield was dominated. And the defense was embarrassing. SKC was simply going through the motions. Have you ever seen such sad crosses in your entire life? Is Sporting KC the worst team in the league right now? Even the most diehard fans are fed up. Wholesale changes are needed from top to bottom. What can the club do, right now, to show the fans that this is unacceptable? Our eyes are on the three big names: Jake Reid, Brian Bliss, and Peter Vermes. Whether it's the gameday experience, fan engagement, or the product on the field, Sporting KC has fallen from the cutting edge and no longer set an example for MLS. Learn more about your ad choices. S2E15 - Ben Sweat can no longer make us Sweat with his sketchy defensive skills. On this week's first episode (we'll be back Thursday to preview the weekend's games), Sheena and I get a little contentious talking through what is going wrong with Sporting Kansas City after their 4-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders. We break down the play on the field, quotes from Peter Vermes and Johnny Russell, along with a little insight from this week's town hall. Sheena even finds three bright spots (somehow!) from the rough Saturday night. Not to be left out, we discuss the 1-0 loss by the Kansas City Current against the North Carolina Courage as well as a couple stories surrounding the USMNT in the Digital Crawl. We got a little feisty about the SKC game and went longer than we wanted to. We'll figure out this “keeping it under 40-minutes” thing eventually. This week Steeeve and Logan break down the 2-1 loss at FC Dallas. We will dive into our thoughts on the game, why Ben Sweat is our NVP, and as always, our Good Bad and Ugly things from around the MLS. Give us a rate, a share, and a follow on Twitter and Facebook if you can! We would certainly appreciate it!! https://twitter.com/PTW_POD https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090239332337 P.S. Reinforcements cannot come soon enough. Sporting KC got it's first point of the season with a draw in Colorado vs the Rapids, but they've yet to a score in the first two matches. Wasn't the offense supposed to be the part we didn't have to worry about? Marinos Tzionis got the start on the right wing over Khiry Shelton. It's not a great place to be right now in the absence of Johnny Russell. We have a tough conversation about who should be starting. After a stellar introduction to MLS last season, some of the shine has worn off striker Willy Agada in the first two matches. Is the team not giving him enough service... or is it self inflicted? We saw more shaky moments from Robert Voloder and Ben Sweat. John Pulskamp came up with some big saves, but we still aren't sure he's ready. But there are problems on all three lines. Without Kinda and Radoja, who is nowhere to be found, the midfield is in trouble. Felipe Hernandez & Cam Duke might have hit their ceilings. Learn more about your ad choices. Khiry's back. An aging lineup. Tons of questions about the backline. Sporting KC opens the MLS season with a shutout loss. It's time to panic, right? A quick glance at fan reactions across the internet seem to indicate a resounding yes. With injuries to the three best players on the team, Peter Vermes once again trotted out an aging lineup against the Portland Timbers in the 2023 season opener. Relying too much on Graham Zusi, Roger Espinoza, and Ben Sweat is not something anybody wants to see this season. Khiry Shelton on the right wing was another one sure to have fans groaning. As new & returning players get to full fitness, what would you do with the Starting XI? We look at all options, including Marinos Tzionis, who turned in a solid shift off the bench. Many questions were answered... just not the way we wanted. Robert Voloder showed he still has kinks to work out. Ben Sweat is still Ben Sweat. A bright spot was Remi Walter. He was deployed in the holding midfield role and was probably the best player on the field for SKC. Erik Thommy, rocking the Captain's arm band, looked like he is ready to show us a new level to his game after an impressive first season. Is 1-0 away at Portland cause to panic? Reinforcements are coming and this lineup isn't exactly what we can expect all season. Next up is the Colorado Rapids, who will be missing the absolute pest of Diego Rubio. The Comets Celebrity Match was over the weekend and we hear from the stars that took the field. Sporting KC played to a 2-2 draw with Louisville City in a preseason matchup after two goals from Remi Walter. Former SKC man Wilson Harris also scored for Lou City. Do we regret letting him go? Peter Vermes spoke to the media and gave the normal updates on player progress and the arrival of the new guys. But there were two parts that stood out. His contract expires at the end of this year, and he was asked about that as well as the USMNT jobs that may or may not be available. As far as his contract goes, he says he's not talking about it right now. Vermes also directly indicated that he expects a CB to be signed. However, this could mean a starter or a trialist. Ben Sweat gave a candid interview with Robert where he shared his feelings on the team bringing in a third left back. 2022 was the year of calves. 2023 is the year of schnoz. It was an almost perfect day at CMP on Sunday, in almost every imaginable way. The weather, the vibes, the fans, and the performance on the field. Some of the best soccer we have seen all season was on display, and SKC controlled and contributed the majority of it. We are running out of words to describe Willy Agada, and we are also seeing players like Ben Sweat really round into form. We also saw a great performance from Remi Walter, but discuss why those could be harder to come by next year if the midfield makeup changes. Rog and Zus got standing O's, and it reminded all of us that nothing lasts forever, even if we'd be surprised if the end was now for those two Sporting Legends. We also discuss future plans, and Peter Vermes' relative candor recently regarding what those could be, and SKC's potential cap flexibility next year. Music by The Spin Wires
It was another rough and ugly match against the Houston Dynamo as Sporting KC settled for a scoreless draw on the road. In spite of countless opportunities, and two shots off the crossbar, SKC never found the final touch. Six yellow cards were shown, but the antics from the Dynamo called for many more. We expect nothing less from Houston these days. Ben Sweat was the best player for Sporting KC. That is a combination of words I never thought would fall together. The usual suspects like Daniel Salloi, Erik Thommy, and Johnny Russell had their moments, but Sporting failed to continue the momentum they had built over the last month. The KC Current are still on fire. What makes them so dangerous right now? We wrap things up with a healthy dose of USMNT striker banter. Learn more about your ad choices. It turns out, all they had to do was listen to the show! Peter Vermes has deployed a different style and formation in the last two matches for Sporting KC, albeit out of necessity due to injuries & suspensions. But the change has yielded two straight results in league play. One worrying note is a potential trend developing in which the defense concedes an ugly goal early in the second half. Robert Voloder took some blame on this one, but he might have been the only one actually defending. A look at the current MLS Western Conference table is quite jarring when compared to last year's playoffs. Sporting KC is not the only team struggling. Seattle, Portland, Colorado, & Vancouver are all at the bottom of the table at the moment. All of a sudden the young guys on the roster are starting to impress. Homegrowns Cam Duke & Felipe Hernandez are looking solid, while all three international U-22's are key contributors as well. "God bless Ben Sweat." But it's really important how you say it. It's Shades of Blue AFTER DARK! We recorded in the wee hours of the morning, fresh off a thrilling 4-2 extra time win for Sporting KC over FC Dallas in the US Open Cup. And to think... you almost forgot how much fun it is to watch SKC! The Starting XI turned some heads and one player's name was literally hand-written on the official scoresheet. Several youngsters were given their shot to make an impact. Who did? Kayden Pierre had a big opportunity to slide into the regular first team lineup. Jake Davis wasted zero time in proving he's a young Roger Espinoza by immediately getting a yellow card. Peter Vermes admitted the miserable 2-0 deficit at the half was his fault. Even though Ben Sweat straight up forgot he was playing soccer at one point. But whatever he did at halftime - it worked. This game had everything. Including a Khiry Shelton brace (kind of). Power Rankings for the best calves on the team. The two newcomers scored their first goals for Sporting. Vujnovic redeemed an otherwise quiet performance with the first goal. While Tzionis was a bright spot all night before he took the roof off the house with a 98th minute equalizer, the latest regulation time goal in club history. We take you behind the scenes of a Sporting KC press conference. Does the team hate Chad? Cody gets grilled on his knowledge (or lack thereof ) of the Kansas City Current and Sporting KC II. 4-12-22 Nate Bukaty, Aly Trost and Conall McCourt break down the club's form. They're joined by Ben Sweat. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
SKC broadcast crew member Conall McCourt comes off the bench to join Nate Bukaty & Aly Trost in this week's show. The trio starts the show by recapping a frustrating 2-1 loss to Nashville SC over the weekend and then discusses some sights & sounds at Tuesday's training session. Then, Nate and Aly sit down with left back Ben Sweat to talk about his journey back from an ACL tear last year, bad haircuts, tattoos & more. To close out the show, Conall rejoins & the crew talks some Harry Potter (?) and Nate does some voice impressions before seamlessly bringing the group back to next weekend's match in LA against LAFC.
Sitting in 11th place in the Western Conference, Sporting KC have had a rough start to the season. Injuries, key international absences, and new players still getting acclimated to MLS have plagued this team so far. But this is Sports Talk. We're here to assign blame and point fingers. We try to decide the one glaring issue holding them back. Is it Peter Vermes' roster construction? Is it a lack of talent in the midfield compared to the rest of the league? What about the attacking core? The show is torn on Ben Sweat, but ready for Logan Ndenbe to return. Felipe Hernandez hasn't quite taken the next step this team was needing. But where is his ceiling? Gadi Kinda will return at some point, but will he solve all the issues? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

As business owners, it's so easy to chase after the next great idea or settle into a strategy that doesn't really represent what we're passionate about. Getting caught up in trends or making business decisions based on what's fresh or new can feel right at the time — but when we're not building from the heart, we burn out from a lack of passion or boundaries. Today's guest has mastered the balance of pursuing great ideas while prioritizing his "why." Serial entrepreneur, Ben Sweat, is the owner of multiple small businesses, a few of which we've had the joy of branding with Copperheart Creative. As a full-time employee, business owner, husband, and father of five, he's found a way to stay balanced in his many ventures by defining success as a family first, business second. In today's episode, Ben shares his story of entrepreneurship and how he's learned to hold each business lightly. We chat about failure and how his girls remind him that it's important to start businesses that connect with your heart. Ben also goes into the pros and cons of building an e-commerce business vs. a brick and mortar, and why it's ok (even an asset!) to have lots of different interests as an entrepreneur. I left this conversation feeling inspired to check in with my own business and make sure my heart was really connecting with our team and clients! Because Ben holds each business opportunity so lightly, his attitude is infectious and makes open doors feel more exciting than scary! I can't wait to hear what YOU get out of this episode! A new episode is out and this time Aaron (Autto421) joins Jordan and me on the podcast. We quickly recap the gritty 3-2 victory NYCFC had against Inter Miami but then the conversation switches to the rumors that Alexandru Mitrita will be loaned, with an option to be bought, to Al Ahli FC. This news couldn't have come at a worse time after Mitrita playing his best two matches of the year and that Maxi Moralez is still injured. Aaron breaks down his thoughts of NYC's season and it's head coach Ronny Deila performance. Then we finish up previewing the match against DC United which is being played for the first time in eight months at Yankee Stadium. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer New York City FC continued their strong run of form, twice seeing off Inter Miami comebacks to win 3-2 at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday courtesy of two goals from Alexandru Mitrita. All five goals came in a rollercoaster of a first half when momentum swung rapidly between the two teams. Mitrita got the scoring going early, running in behind the Miami defense and providing a neat one-time finish to an Alex Ring ball over the top. We had to wait a while for the game's second goal, Lewis Morgan applying an emphatic right-footed finish to a stylish team move involving Blaise Matuidi and Victor Ulloa in the 27th minute. But the goals then came thick and fast. Eight minutes later, Anton Tinnerholm drove forward and cut inside from the right before beating Luis Robles with a low left-footed shot from 20 yards, Miami again pulled level in the 38th minute. Morgan grabbed his second of the night, this one even more spectacular than his first as he struck an unstoppable right-footed shot after a layoff from Gonzalo Higuain. But the parity lasted just five minutes. Mitrita matched Morgan with his second goal, running from deep inside his own half and into the Miami area before getting the benefit of a deflection off Ben Sweat to find the net. That proved to be the end of the scoring, though Miami were celebrating a late equalizer from Julian Carranza only to have it called back for offside following a video review. In a rare second episode of the week Filibuster is back to preview D.C. United's upcoming match against New York City FC. Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about all of the changes that have happened since Patrick Vieira left the team, and how their fortunes have turned over the last few months. Give it a listen!
In the latest edition of the "Soccer in the City" podcast, hosts Tom Kolker, John Rojas and Roberto Abramowitz preview the New York City FC vs. D.C. United matchup this Sunday. How big a game is it really for the Boys in Blue? They can lose in D.C. and still control their destiny in the race for third place in the East. The guys also weigh in on the U.S. national team and its 1-1 result vs Peru. A lot of the focus is on the performances of NYC’s own Ben Sweat for the U.S. and Alexander Callens for Peru. Roberto spoke to Sweat at length after the game, and we have the conversation in it’s entirety. Also, the crazy playoff race in the West and much more in the latest "Soccer In The City."

Listen up. 0:30 intro and Velasquez tactical overview (not because we care about Sarachan’s tactics but because it affects the way we assess individual performances) 14:00 Flores’ goal for Peru, whose fault was it? 17:50 Sargent, Weah, Amon, Cannon and Carter-Vickers (extended discussion, please understand) 50:20 Acosta, Delgado, Trapp and everyone else
We take a close look at the USA-Colombia friendly and ponder whether it is an issue that the USMNT still does not have a permanent replacement for Bruce Arena; Columbus Crew SC coach Greg Berhalter is the likely successor - if so, shouldn’t he have been hired months ago?; Ben Sweat earns his first cap with USMNT; New York City signs three important players to contract extensions; Yangel Herrera is for ready to compete and will likely be ready for the playoffs.
Part 2 with New York City FC President, Jon Patricof; A 1-on-1 interview with Ben Sweat who has earned his first international call-up with the USMNT; Paul Tenorio of The Athletic shares his thoughts on the next USMNT head coach and discussions to alter or eliminate the 3rd Designated Player in MLS.
