A new episode is out and this time Aaron (Autto421) joins Jordan and me on the podcast. We quickly recap the gritty 3-2 victory NYCFC had against Inter Miami but then the conversation switches to the rumors that Alexandru Mitrita will be loaned, with an option to be bought, to Al Ahli FC. This news couldn't have come at a worse time after Mitrita playing his best two matches of the year and that Maxi Moralez is still injured. Aaron breaks down his thoughts of NYC's season and it's head coach Ronny Deila performance. Then we finish up previewing the match against DC United which is being played for the first time in eight months at Yankee Stadium. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer New York City FC continued their strong run of form, twice seeing off Inter Miami comebacks to win 3-2 at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday courtesy of two goals from Alexandru Mitrita. All five goals came in a rollercoaster of a first half when momentum swung rapidly between the two teams. Mitrita got the scoring going early, running in behind the Miami defense and providing a neat one-time finish to an Alex Ring ball over the top. We had to wait a while for the game's second goal, Lewis Morgan applying an emphatic right-footed finish to a stylish team move involving Blaise Matuidi and Victor Ulloa in the 27th minute. But the goals then came thick and fast. Eight minutes later, Anton Tinnerholm drove forward and cut inside from the right before beating Luis Robles with a low left-footed shot from 20 yards, Miami again pulled level in the 38th minute. Morgan grabbed his second of the night, this one even more spectacular than his first as he struck an unstoppable right-footed shot after a layoff from Gonzalo Higuain. But the parity lasted just five minutes. Mitrita matched Morgan with his second goal, running from deep inside his own half and into the Miami area before getting the benefit of a deflection off Ben Sweat to find the net. That proved to be the end of the scoring, though Miami were celebrating a late equalizer from Julian Carranza only to have it called back for offside following a video review. Join us on SportsHosts and be entered in our monthly NYCFC merch giveaway: http://thenycfcnation.com/sportshostsapp Game recap provided by MLS Soccer: Maxi Moralez returned from injury as a halftime substitute to help spark New York City FC to a 3-1 win over Chicago Fire FC Saturday at Red Bull Arena. Moralez’s impact was felt almost immediately, serving up the assist on Anton Tinnerholm’s eventual game-winning goal in the 53rd minute. It was the seventh assist in as many all-time appearances against the Fire for Moralez, who has been sidelined by a nagging calf injury suffered at the MLS is Back Tournament last month. Tinnerholm took a settling first touch and finished clinically inside the far post to break the stalemate in the 53rd minute. Keaton Parks opened the scoring in the 16th minute, equalling his goal total from a year ago. The midfielder received the ball in the box from an Alexandru Mitrita service and guided his low shot inside the far post. Parks paid tribute to “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, who died Friday, with a “Wakanda Forever” celebration. Four minutes later, Maxime Chanot headed off the post after latching onto Jesus Medina’s corner kick. Mauricio Pineda leveled in first-half stoppage time with the unmarked rookie tapping past Sean Johnson after Francisco Calvo flicked on Alvaro Medran’s corner kick. The Fire nearly equalized a second time in the 74th minute, but Alex Callens cleared Elliot Collier’s attempt off the line after Johnson initially misplayed. A minute later, Alex Ring scored for a second consecutive game off an assist from Tinnerholm to put the game away. Columbus had a first-half goal by Gyasi Zardes called off when Derrick Etienne was offside on the service. Pedro Santos came close to the equalizer in the 82nd minute, but Sean Johnson dived to parry it out for a corner kick. Fanendo Adi appeared to score the tying goal in stoppage time, but it was the second goal waved off for offside. QUOTES NYCFC Head Coach Ronny Deila: On bringing Maxi on at the half instead of later... "Maybe we wanted to wait a bit, but I think we needed to make some changes in the second half to get three points. Today is the first time that I have seen Maxi so fresh. You can see that he has no pain, and you can also see how good he is and how vital he is for the team. We created a lot of chances and played a really good second half. I am eager to see the future but just want to play games now." NYCFC Defender Anton Tinnerholm: On just wanting to keep moving after difficult results this season... "We had a rough start, there’s no doubt about it. We had a lot of meetings and things got better. But in the end we have to show it on the pitch. It is easy to talk but harder to perform out there. We showed it today and we showed it against Columbus that we can do it. I think the second half we were dominating the game; the Chicago players were so exhausted in the final 15 minutes that they can’t even press us. It reminds me of some games from last season, so we have to keep on doing what we did in the second half here. Now we have some confidence, you can see it in the guys. It’s fun to come in a play some games again, now we have to keep on the momentum that we have started." NYCFC Midfielder Maxi Moralez: On getting back on the field after injury... "At the beginning in Orlando I felt really good, but then I got the injury and wasn't able to recover until today. I'm really happy with everyone that helped me recover. Today I played well. Together we played well. My leg is a lot better and I recovered quicker than I hoped and now I'm 100 percent and ready for Wednesday's game [against New England]." New England Revolution 0, New York City FC 2 | 2020 MLS Match Recap New York City FC earned their second-ever win at Gillette Stadium — snapping New England Revolution's seven-game unbeaten streak in the process — with a 2-0 victory. New York City FC dominated the first half and had several opportunities with dangerous set pieces, but weren't able to find the back of the net. New England goalkeeper Matt Turner had a fantastic reaction save in the 14th minute off one of NYCFC's corners to keep the clean sheet for his side going into halftime. Bruce Arena made two substitutions, giving the Revs a little more life coming into the second 45 minutes, but NYCFC got on the board first in the 60th minute. Anton Tinnerholm crossed a pass into the box to Heber and Michael Mancienne slid to defend the pass but ended up putting it in the back of the net for an own goal. A little more than 10 minutes later, Heber gets his first goal of the season off a NYCFC corner kick from Ronald Matarrita. At the final whistle, NYCFC took all three points in Foxborough. Jordan and I recap New York City FC's win against the Columbus Crew. A strange match that saw NYC clearly outplay the East-leading Crew for most of the match but to only come away with one goal, which was finished by Alex Ring and assisted by Heber. Has the team come around and will they play better soccer from here on out? What's is Maxi's status since he clearly is the player maker? What happened to NYC's defense depth as now that our only backup CB is hurt? A win is a win and NYC's next opponent is the Chicago Fire. The Leipzig Debate (1519) between Martin Luther and Johann Eck was the event that made the Biblical idea of Sola Scriptura spread like wildfire to the common people. In a different type of sermon today, Pastor Hendrix leads us through the history of the Reformation starting all the way back in the Old Testament with Hezekiah's Reformation, and explains the significance of the Leipzig Debate using some important hymns of the Lutheran Church. Part of this sermon derived from Alex Ring, “Quincentennial of the Leipzig Debate,” Essay delivered at the 2019 ELS General Pastor’s Conference, Bloomington, MN, pg. 2, 3.

New York City FC is one point away from clinching the Eastern Conference Championship after thrashing Atlanta United, 4-1 on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium - the final home game of the regular season. The boys talk about the performance of Alexandru Mitrita who scored a first half hat-trick and Sebastian Ibeagha, who filled in for the injured Anton Tinnerholm. City has two road matches left starting with New England on Sunday. The Revolution need three points to clinch a playoff spot, and NYCFC will be without the services of Alex Ring and Taty Castellanos who are suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Will NYCFC be able to clinch on that day or will they have to wait till Decision Day on October 6 at the Philadelphia Union who rallied from a 1-0 deficit in San Jose on Wednesday night to win 2-1 and stay alive for the top spot in the east? Also, a look around the league as three more teams clinched playoff births.

Post Game Player Reactions & Quotes – New York City FC vs Atlanta United FC – 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinal Audio clips from Jo Inge Berget, Sean Johnson, Jesus Medina (Spanish) and Yangel Herrera (Spanish). Quotes from Domènec Torrent, Alexander Ring, Sean Johnson provided by NYCFC.com NYCFC HEAD COACH DOMÈNEC TORRENT On tonight’s match & looking ahead to the second leg in Atlanta… “Today, it’s a bad result for us but I reminded my players, we need to imagine it’s a final. We need to win the next game. If you’re able to win the next game, you need to score at least one goal. 1-0? Extra time. If you’re able to win the game and score two goals, you are in the [Eastern Conference] final.” On what needs to be adjusted heading to Atlanta… “We need to win the game. I have to find the best solution and the best team to play better. I agree with who played the game in the second half. The second half we played much better, we can play side-to-side, we can play two against one. We played well the second half, they defend very well but we just need to win the game. We don’t need to win 2-0, 3-0, 4-1 - no, no - we need to win. If we win at least 1-0, it’s extra time, if you score 2, you are in the [Eastern Conference final], it’s as simple as that. We need to improve, absolutely. We need to improve for the next game because they have quality and the first half, we didn’t play well because we didn’t have the connection between the central midfielders and the strikers. We didn’t defend well, the set pieces especially. Every single corner, every single free kick, they could finish. We have to improve because in a semifinal or a final, you have to be focused on that, in every single action. But I am happy at the second half because I think we played much better - not in the first half and we have chances to win in Atlanta, why not? They have a good team but New York City as well. Our intention is to go to Atlanta to win the game because we need to win.” On Maxime Chanot… “Maxime, the last month, has played amazing, incredible. He has a special quality, he has a desire to win. It’s about the mentality. The mentality Chanot has shown in the last month is incredible. He was a leader for the defenders, the same with [Alex] Ring and Yangel [Herrera]” NYCFC MIDFIELDER ALEXANDER RING How Atlanta’s physical game effected NYCFC attacking game… “No, I think the first half we didn't play that well from the back, I think the second half we played much better. Their corners and set pieces were dangerous, it's the payoffs and they did a good job but nevertheless we shouldn’t have conceded a set piece.” On what they will like to continue next week… “I think we changed the way we were playing a little bit, pushed a bit higher on the sides. I played alone in the midfield, I think that gave us a better rhythm maybe, where we were better spread out in the pitch than in the first half. You have to give them credit, they did well the first half and they know we like to play from the back, but I think we showed in the second half that if we play like that we’ll have a really good chance in Atlanta.” On having to win the match in Atlanta to advance… “Exactly, it’s one game and we have played there before, we know we can score goals there so yeah, I’m not worried. I’m looking forward to it, like I said, [the] playoffs are what we’ve been working for all year and I’m sure we are going to bring our “A” game when we show up there.” NYCFC GOALKEEPER SEAN JOHNSON Thoughts on today’s game… “I think given our position now, Atlanta is going to be a final. We win and we give ourselves a chance. It’s one goal. If we score two, it’s gonna be a fight. So we just have to treat it like that and It’s gonna be an exciting game. I think we’ll just have to come prepared again. You know, we’d love a goal [today] but not conceding the second goal after conceding one of the set piece is important.” Confidence level on the road for this team right now... “Obviously we know what we have to do. Nothing really matters in the past going forward now. I think it’s really down to a belief in the group and I think we’ve had a little more belief in us the past couple of games and even tonight in the second half. I mean, we came out and tried to take it to them. So, we’re not really looking into our struggles in the past leading up to this next game in Atlanta, so we’re just going to treat it like a final.” How did Atlanta prevent NYCFC from attacking... “I think they did a good job at pressing. I mean, the way they set up, they knew how we wanted to play. I think it was just gonna be a battle to see if we could win a second ball. And I think they won a few more second balls in the first half. But when we did play a little more direct and win a second ball, we were able to advance the ball up the field quite rapidly. So that’s kinda how the game was at home earlier this year for large stretches and away as well…[it] didn’t catch us by surprise if you will. But I think obviously we can improve and figure out a better way to advance the ball and gain more control of the game, cause when we do that, we score.”   NYCFC Nation Podcast Show Link & Info Purchase our NYCFC Nation scarf 100% of proceeds go towards City in the Community!! http://thenycfcnation.com/2018/04/nycfc-nation-scarf/ Episode Link: http://thenycfcnation.com/2018/11/nycfc-vs-philadelphia-union-post-game-audio-clips-quotes-10-31-2018 Episode Sponsored by - SportsHosts Andres Emilio Soto @TheAndresSoto - https://twitter.com/TheAndresSoto OhCitySaidI IG @CitySaidI - https://www.instagram.com/ohcitysaidi/ Podcast Outro Song - N/A Leave Us A Rating And Review Like listening to the NYCFC Nation Podcast? Let us know by leaving a 5 star rating and review to help other New York City FC fans find the podcast. Welcome to Episode 138 of the NYCFC Nation Podcast. New York City FC headed to the west coast to play against the LA Galaxy and for those fans who stayed up saw two amazing goals scored by Jonathan Lewis and our MVP David Villa. On paper, with a score of 2-0, it would appear NYC controlled the match but that would be a lie. If it wasn't for Sean Johnson's amazing goalkeeping performance the score would have been different. Jordan Griffith joins the show to discuss the match plus we discuss the training sessions heading into Sunday's match. We analyse certain NYCFC player performances, look into the match against the New England Revolution and take your questions. Twitter questions provided by our Nation fans: Opinions on the Sean Johnson trade now that we're so far into the season? Also favorite save against LA. Defenders: The good, the bad and the ugly ... and the #NotSo Brillant. The most focused and troublesome backline combos. Who replaces Alex Ring in the line up against the Revs? He is gonna be hard to replace. Seems like Patrick Vieira learned not to park the bus (hopefully). Do you think we see a formation change against the revs with ring out? Maybe 3-4-3? I can't find a list of podcasts sorted by recently released anywhere O_O Any potential consequence from NYCFC's lack of big moves before end of transfer window? Is Vieira displeased 3 players weren't picked up? Are we spoiled as NYC residents with what we expect from this team? Looking at the 2018 season ticket prices with the renewal dates fast approaching, what will you do? Listen in and follow up with us on twitter @NYCFCpodcast. New York City now travels to play against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday July 5th. Chris P along with Jeff Weisinger join the podcast to discuss these two matches and we take your questions off Instagram and Twitter. Maxi Moralez was a full participant in training, does he start against Vancouver? Rodney Wallace is away on International duty and Ronald Matarrita is out for 3-4 months. Who will be replacing them on the starting roster? We discuss the drama over on the MLS subreddit regarding one "writers" view about NYCFC Staff and wrap up giving our 4 words or less on the Cosmos video where a NYCFC fan removed his t-shirt for a Cosmos Pele jersey.
