Scott Petsel, President of Metallic Minerals (TSX.V:MMG – OTCQB:MMNGF), joins us to review the 2024 exploration strategy at both the Keno Silver Project in the Yukon and the La Plata Copper Project in Colorado. We lead off discussing the 2,000 meters of drilling planned to begin in the next few weeks at the Keno Silver project, building upon the inaugural NI-43-101 mineral resource estimate, announced February 26th. This was a key milestone for this Project which defined 18.16 million ounces of silver equivalent (inferred), over 4 deposits (Formo, Fox, Caribou and Homestake). Preparations are underway to begin step-out drilling near the Formo target, which is the largest of the four deposits contributing to the initial resources announced earlier this year, and located inside the neighboring Hecla Mining's Keno Hill land package. There will also be drill testing at a few new targets like McMillan and Rumtum. Then we pivoted over to the developing exploration strategy, ongoing groundwork, and targeting for this year at the La Plata Copper-Silver Project, following up on last year's 4 drill holes over 4,530 meters, that was funded by a May 2023, 9.5% strategic equity investment by Newmont Corporation. Scott outlines that those 4500 meters drilled last year have not yet been added into the existing 1.21-billion-pound copper and 17.6-million-ounce silver inferred mineral resource. Importantly, they will also add in more a grade and resources from gold, platinum, and palladium for the first time; which have not previously been included. Scott outlined that the 4 holes drilled by the exploration team in 2023 did follow up on the area near the high-grade intercept hole # LAP22-04, and that three of four holes intercepted continuous porphyry style Cu-Ag-Au-PGE mineralization over 500 m in width at 0.3% Cu including significant intervals exceeding 0.5% to 0.7% CuEq with associated Ag, Au and PGEs. Drill hole LAP23-05 intersected 909 m of continuous mineralization from surface grading 0.26% CuEq over the entire hole length, with a 550 m wide higher-grade zone. We discuss the variability in the grade and intensity of the mineralization in all drill holes, based on the density of veining and concentration of associated sulphides that carry the copper, silver, gold, platinum, and palladium. The deposit remains open to expansion at depth and along trend. Defining the geometry of these higher-grade porphyry units and alteration zones is an important focus of follow up drilling at the Allard resource area and potentially testing a few new targets in 2024. Afrocop, the trailblazing trio of psychedelic jazz, was actually the very first thing we wanted to release on Wax Thematique. We didn't know the band members, any of their backstories or even if they had any recordings to put out. In actuality, we didn't even have a name for our label yet, at that point it was just an idea. Years ago we went to a small bar in Seattle to see Afrocop based on the recommendation of a friend (RUMTUM) and BAM, the chatter in our brains disintegrated within seconds of the first sound wave. Afrocop plays purely to keep things open, democratic and evolving. Mistakes, when you can catch them, are few but dealt with grace and curiosity. Bridges, changeups, pauses and just straight up sonic freak-outs are cultivated with a sense of boundless discovery. These are musicians on a mission and we knew this was something incredibly special and unlike any performance we had seen or record we had heard before. The closest thing to us at the time was perhaps, The Heliocentrics or some sort of ambient version of Medeski, Martin & Wood. Through getting to know the members of Afrocop over the years, we released bandleader Noel Brass Jr's ambient album, "Broken Cloud Orchestra" and drummer Andy Sells' post-disco project "Select Level". And we've watched Afrocop bassist, Carlos Tulloss' band Screens blow many a mind with their pulsating electronic live sets. We've experienced Afrocop live more than any other act, and the few times we couldn't make it we were emotionally and spiritually lacking. Afrocop fearlessly challenges newcomers while simultaneously giving the old heads exactly what they came for. Afrocop Live at Musiquarium was recorded in January 2020 and was the final time we saw them perform. We can't wait to see them blow the walls off the room again someday soon, but until then we have this recording to enjoy. Audio recorded by Nathan Womack, mixed and mastered by Andy Sells. For this episode, I speak with agroecologist, entomologist, farmer, and beekeeper Jonathan Lundgren, CEO of Blue Dasher Farm and Director of the ECDYSIS Foundation. At the very beginning of this conversation, Jonathan discusses his time as a top scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, during which time he conducted important research into the wide-scale use of pesticides in U.S. agriculture. After conducting research that indicated that the use of certain chemicals (neonicotinoids) on fields was causing significant and alarming declines in insect pollinator populations (e.g. bees and butterflies), Jonathan began to experience various forms of suppression and censorship from within the USDA, as an attempt to hinder his work and inhibit his ability to publish his findings on the subject. After spending 11 years at the USDA, Jonathan moved on to his next project, Blue Dasher Farm, "where research, education, and demonstration converge to support the regeneration of agriculture." While Blue Dasher is a for-profit enterprise, it also serves as a project that develops and demonstrates regenerative agricultural methods that require practically none of the intrusive, disruptive, and ecologically devastating practices employed under the dominant agricultural system in the United States today. Jonathan is also the Director of the ECDYSIS Foundation, a non-profit science lab for independent research. The Airconcast? Yes, because I am recording this in our hotel room in Austin, surrounded by a noisy fridge and an even noisier air-conditioning unit. It was so loud I actually turned it off during the recording, but the room then quickly became uncomfortably stuffy, so this podcast was recorded with me sitting in my pants in a slightly uncomfortable sweat - picture that if you will.We are, as you will have guessed, out here for SXSW again, but seeing as next week's podcast is going to be our now-traditional chat with Peej, Vic Galloway and Stuart Thomas about this year's festival, I figured you probably didn't want two SXSW podcasts in one week so I'd lay off this time and just make it about music. 01. First things first, I must inevitably apologise for the horrendous lateness of this podcast. Between my mum visiting, the gig on Sunday and the Samantha Crain Toad Session we recorded on Monday there just hasn't been enough time to catch up. It's that end of year time, too, when lists are being made, accounts submitted, the last releases of the year tended to and plans for next year being finalised, so just when I thought that I could coast into Christmas, it turns out I actually have just as much work now as at any other time of the year. Ah well, whinge whinge, etc. This podcast is called the Saxcast because I happened to be listening to Timber Timbre the other night, and one of their songs features the saxophone quite heavily. It occurred to me at the time that not only does almost no-one use that instrument at the moment, but despite the eighties ending over twenty years ago, it still seems almost completely taboo, within the kind of musical circles I move in anyway. Needless to say, this was all it took for me to devote an entire podcast to the instrument. 01. Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band - It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City (Live) (00.27) 02.
