The lads dig into the numbers behind Brentford's finishing too – what's going right, what's not, and whether the data backs up what we're seeing with our eyesThere's also a proper stat attack on those late goals – just how often are the Bees conceding after 90 minutes, and is it a trend or just bad luck?Kevin Schade goes under the microscope as well. The Gowler pulls out the key metrics, while the pair chat tactics, roles, and what tweaks could get him more involved and more effective in this Brentford setupThen it's onto the bigger picture – European football. Linkjes: Gaya's beroemde paper Update to Limits to growth: Comparing the World3 model with empirical data.  Donella Meadows, Jorgen Randers, Dennis Meadows (2002), Limits to Growth: The 30-Year Update (absolute aanrader).Een sterk filmpje over bioregionalism.

Many artists quietly believe there is a deadline on creativity. If you did not start young, it can feel like you missed your chance. In episode 121, Suzanne Allard about where that belief comes from and why it does not hold up.Suzanne shares her story of beginning to draw and paint in her early 50s, along with the fear, pressure, and self talk that shaped her early creative experience. Allard shares what actually helps artists move forward. Gentle entry points, low pressure practice, and learning how to stay with discomfort all play a role. This conversation is for artists who feel behind, overwhelmed, or unsure whether it is worth starting or continuing at all.In this episode, you will learn:Why starting late is more story than realityHow low pressure prompts help build momentum and confidenceThe difference between fear of judgment and fear of how you feel about your own workHow to lower pressure when your art practice starts to feel stressfulWhy creative growth requires patience, pauses, and trustAllard also shares insights into her acrylic landscape process, how she chooses references, why she works in phases, and how she balances focused learning with play.Whether you are picking up a brush for the first time or trying to reconnect with your practice, this episode offers a grounded and encouraging perspective on what it means to keep going.Art Club: Find your ad free version here.Bonus Episode (Podcast Art Club)In the bonus conversation, Allard goes deeper into how she actually works in the studio and how looseness, confidence, and expressive color are built through intentional choices rather than talent or speed.Allard shares why setting constraints, like limiting the number of shapes or colors in a painting, can make it easier to simplify and stop overworking. You'll learn how she uses reference photos as a jumping-off point rather than a rulebook, and how shifting from object-based thinking to value- and shape-based thinking changes the way you approach landscapes. The conversation also explores how color confidence develops through play and repetition, why avoiding straight-from-the-tube color helps build a personal color language, and how reducing friction in your setup makes it easier to paint more often without overthinking materials or wasting supplies. This bonus episode is especially helpful if you are trying to loosen up, simplify complex scenes, or feel more confident making color decisions in your own work.In this bonus, we cover:Why constraints are one of the fastest ways to loosen up your workHow to think in shapes and values instead of objectsUsing reference photos as inspiration rather than instructionsBuilding color confidence through experimentation and repetitionSimplifying landscapes without losing interest or depthMaking it easier to paint more often by reducing setup frictionLearn ore about Suzanne Allard:WEBSITE / CLASSES / INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / YOUTUBE / PINTEREST Support the show

Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well

Have you ever found yourself holding onto feelings of guilt or shame long after a difficult experience or mistake? In this episode, Jill sits down with Dr. Carolyn Allard, a leading voice in trauma-focused psychology and research. Together, they unpack the complex nature of guilt and shame, especially when these emotions become non-adaptive in the face of trauma or hardship. Carolyn, who is also the author of Transform Your Guilt and Shame: Evidence-Based Strategies to Heal from Trauma and Adversity, shares how to recognize the difference between guilt and shame and introduces the idea of “non-adaptive guilt and shame” (NAGS). You'll gain insight into how these emotions link to moral injury and other trauma responses, and walk away with actionable tools such as hindsight bias and justification analysis to better understand, challenge, and manage them.Listen and Learn: How guilt and shame differ lies in focus, as guilt is about actions and shame is about identity, and why they matterHow moral injury can emerge from situations where individuals face impossible choices that conflict with their values, leading to lasting feelings of guilt and shameWhy we feel non-adaptive guilt and shame often comes down to distorted beliefs about responsibility, justification, and values, and how understanding these patterns helps us break free from self-blame and move toward self-compassionHow hindsight bias can trick us into unfair self-judgment, and by reflecting on our choices and context at the time, we can gain a clearer, kinder perspectiveUnderstanding the difference between accountability (being answerable) and responsibility (having control or intention) and how this helps us untangle guilt and shame, process mistakes effectively, and break the self-reinforcing cycles of trauma that impair our ability to act according to our valuesResources: Transform Your Guilt and Shame: Evidence-Based Strategies to Heal from Trauma and Adversity: https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9781433843419 Carolyn's Website: https://www.carolynallardphd.com/Connect with Carolyn on Social Media: Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/carolynallardphd.bsky.social Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/p/Carolyn-Allard-PhD LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/carolyn-allard-99749155/About Carolyn B.
