After spending years running club nights in Edinburgh, Wallace has since put all of his energy into his own musical journey. His sound has stemmed from a unique upbringing, as he was exposed to music from around the world thanks to his parents who loved music and nature respectively. Having played his debut at the legendary Panorama Bar in November, played extensively at festivals like Gottwood & Burning Man, combined with recent releases on Rhythm Section, CWPT, Studio Barnhus & Permanent Vacation as well as remixes for Gilles Peterson on Brownswood, make Wallace an essential one to watch! "A glimpse into the beautiful, bold, bonkers world of Bollywood, Bhangra & other forms of Indian music. Like most multi-genre music fans, London-based Ruby Savage approaches DJing through a wide-angle lens. Whether she's touring, playing her post-punk disco party, In Flames, or hosting her monthly show on NTS, the Amsterdam native opts for warm, bouncy tunes that traverse dub, jazz and '80s proto-house. As she once Mixmag, she isn't beat-matching but "heartbeat-matching." For her, a dance is a means to feeling the full spectrum of emotions in a healthy way. Years spent behind-the-scenes at influential institutions have added to her understanding of energy and flow. She's worked the counter at Honest Jon's Records, managed Theo Parrish's Sounds Signature label (plus created the Wildheart Recordings sister label) and Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint, in addition to helping the Worldwide FM don launch Arc Records. When she's not DJing, Savage is spearheading community initiatives like Don't Be A Creep, an educational platform about club safety, as well as Artist Recovery Club for creative growth among music-makers. For her RA podcast, the vinyl enthusiast crafted a house music odyssey through soul, disco and gospel-inflected cuts like "Glory" by Waajeed and Dames Brown. It's an uplifting excursion through joy, catharsis and self-affirmation, relayed straight from the heart. @kwasiba3000 Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/895

STR4TA - "Turn Me Around" from the 2022 album STR4TASFEAR on Brownswood. Just before the world shut down in 2020, renowned DJ/record label owner Gilles Peterson joined acid jazz legend Jean-Paul Maunick (better known as "Bluey") for an improvised jam session in Bluey's parents' garden shed in London. The result became STR4TA, and last year's debut LP, Aspects, draws influence from the '70s/'80s Brit-Funk sound they both grew up with. Their sophomore full-length, STR4TASFEAR, will be released on November 10th via Peterson's own Brownswood Recordings, and is described by Peterson in a press release as "a continuation from our first project, celebrating the ground breaking Brit-Funk era of the late 70s/ early 80s while continuing the story with the rise of the drum machine; paying homage to the Acid Jazz and Electro Soul that followed and the evolution that inspired club culture and new Jazz of recent times." He continues, "For me it's a record of parallels, not only in music but a lot of the issues we are experiencing today began in that Brit-Funk era. The parallels in the political landscape of that time and today are poignant and the moment of overall change we are living in is reflected in this record. Bluey is a significant executer of exhibiting the important social questions through music from a Black British perspective and it's an honour to work with him." This is an excerpt of a full length episode currently only available to patrons. To become a patron and support what we're doing from £3 per month, head to www.patreon.com/LoveMessagePod. In this patrons-only bonus episode, Jeremy and Tim have a conversation about what music they're listening to at the moment. We had planned to listen to 6 or 7 tracks, but the conversation was flowing and so we only managed 2. Tim and Jeremy discuss the British jazz revival, taking in labels like Gilles Peterson's Brownswood and venues like the Total Refreshment Centre; their own recent experience of throwing parties in East London; developing a more global musical palette than that offered by David Mancuso; and the changing patterns of migration that feed into interesting syntheses of international musics. This is the first of a rough series of more conversational, unplanned episodes reflecting on what's been on our record players recently and what we've been up to that we'll be releasing to patrons to say thank you for your support. Hold tight for news about a live seminar series with Tim and Jeremy - more info when we have it. The two tracks discussed are: Lokkhi Terra mmets Dele Sosimi - Afro Sambroso KOKOROKO - Abusey Junction If you like the clips we played, we'd encourage you to support the artists and buy the tracks, both of which are available on bandcamp. Produced and edited by Matt Huxley.

He mixes African, Latin and American influences, it’s Blick Bassy. Instrumentalist and music producer Swindle (signed to Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label) is joined by R&B singer songwriter Joel Culpepper (who's worked with Paloma Faith, Jimmy Hogarth, Roy Davis Jr.), vocalist Lioness (over a million views on YouTube), and multi-instrumentalist composer Ahnanse (runs most popular underground UK jazz night Steam Down). Led by Swindle, they’ll be discussing how the city you grow up in influences your sound, weirdest place they’ve recorded a song and would they still be doing this if there was no financial reward.
Gilles Peterson is the face of his label Brownswood Recordings - but he doesn't run it alone. Emily Moxon and Ruby Savage tell Tina Edwards what it's like to manage and create visual campaigns for such a celebrated indie label. They also talk about what they look for in artists and reflect on the success of 'We Out Here' one year on.

Welcome to the Hot Air Podcast for the Ransom Note. This time around I caught up with an artist who I’ve been following for some time now, but every time I hear some new output there’s always something there that’s fresh and surprising. Brian De Souza, better known as Auntie Flo, hails from Glasgow, and the city’s rich electronic music history is deeply engrained in his psyche. Originally embarking on a path rooted in house and techno, Brian quickly expanded his musical horizons to incorporate sounds and textures from all corners of the globe, pushing this broader pallet in his productions, and also via his long running club night Highlife. With a new album having just dropped on Brownswood, I stopped by his north London flat for broad ranging chat in his kitchen over a nice cup of coffee. We delved deep into his formative years growing up in Glasgow and talked about the process of putting the album together, but we started off with some surprising alternative meanings for his artist name. ‘Frontiers' is a podcast about cultural pioneers and business innovators. In this episode Gilles Peterson shares his journey to the frontiers of the music industry: including his first forays in pirate radio, the birth of the Brownswood record label and how it all began with an electric railway set. ‘Frontiers' is brought to you by The Upside innovation studio.
This was the 2nd night meeting in Brownswood, TX. The message was good but the ribs were GREAT. Both were born from a ‘mysterious union’. “Union is the mystic key that unlocks the door of unspeakable joy that deciphers the living word engraved upon our hearts, that enables us to truly see; it is the living water that quenches the thirst of those who do to be. One Spirit together with Him who is and was and will be, the reality of regent living among the gods, eternal bliss beyond the descriptive use of human language. Insurmountable are the effects of union, invincible is the three-stranded chord.” Sorry I could only save this recording; enjoy!
