Jeffrey Lundgren, a self-proclaimed prophet and former RLDS preacher, led a cult in Kirtland, Ohio, where he manipulated his followers through religious extremism and violence. In April 1989, he orchestrated the brutal murders of Dennis and Cheryl Avery and their three daughters, believing their deaths were a necessary sacrifice for divine favor. After fleeing to West Virginia and later California, Lundgren was eventually captured, convicted, and executed in 2006, while several of his followers received lengthy prison sentences.
