Parisian duo Masomenos deliver their new LP' Unidentified Aerial Phenomena' this May, coming via the Automatic Writing imprint and comprising eleven originals, featuring Amsterdam's San Proper. Masomenos have always explored parallel worlds with their music, fusing an amalgamation of influences and bringing all the humor and kindness they've met on their path into their universe. Their music, weird and intriguing for some, lively and trippy for others, is like an ongoing story told over more than 15 years of musical production. Alongside the music is their graphic design accompaniment of funny creatures and mystical figures. In this new opus, they surf the frontier between their club sound and home listening, inviting friends over for the ride. Santeria is a runaway splinter of the Roman club scene – a sacrilegious, informal, party-loving approach to traditional music intended as the expression of cultures from all around the world and translated to the dance floor through electronic music. Son of a musician and composer, with his birth he ended his family's nomadic life, which had brought them to travel the world playing and studying Andean music, the culture through which they met and fell in love. Santeria's roots have always pushed him to explore beyond the traditional bounds of electronic music, pouring this learning into his live and studio production. Ultimately – as he sees it – what matters is enjoying music without fear, listening and dancing without asking whether or not the music is "right" enough. In the end, it just needs to be fun. Since 2016 Santeria collaborates with RNY as a resident artist, a Roman organization that boasts guests such as Floating Points, Kevin Saunderson and Daniel Avery, as well as Kerri Chandler, San Proper, and Tokimonsta, all of whom he has had the pleasure of sharing the console with. There is no one quite like San Proper. The Dutchman is a rare and real character in a scene that is all too often devoid of genuine personality. It shows in the wild music he makes, the wonderful Red Light Radio shows he hosts and the often weird sets he serves up at clubs and festivals round the world. Releasing most often on Rush Hour but also on Dopeness Galore and Perlon, he can do dark minimal as well as big hearted soul and can lay down a big guitar riff or program an off kilter drum line all with equal élan. His Dekmantel podcast finds the Dr. dig deep into his vinyl collection and serve up 23 slabs of soul, funk and afro magic across two hours that feel very personal. Traversing scenes, styles and tempos with flawless mixing and blending, he tells a very colour tale that breaks all the rules of a usual mix yet still makes complete sense. It is the sound of a selector who has open ears and who, ten years since his first release, is as thrilling and unpredictable as ever.

Later this year, Awanto 3 will release his new album 'Gargamel' with us. Three tracks from it are included in the podcast he has put together, and as you should expect, they are rugged, hard to pin down affairs. And that pretty much defines the Dutchman’s career to date. Early on he founded Rednose Distrikt with Aardvarck, later on he released on labels like Rush Hour, and always is he inventive and unpredictable, whether solo or working with the likes of San Proper and Tom Trago. From sample heavy house jams to rip roaring techno, he is always on the move, just like his Dekmantel Podcast. Starting warm and loungey, it picks up through dumpy broken drums, colourful chords and spraying basslines. The final third is more jacked up and raw, with filtered vocals and frazzled textures moving you from a vibey house party to a more energetic and cosmic dance floor. Robust and with a heavy analogue feel, it is a fine way to tease us ahead of Gargamel.

In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year.
