In this episode, Ted interviews Joel Cesare, a longstanding friend, colleague, and sustainability champion, who has just begun a new job at Cambio, a firm that has an AI platform designed for portfolios of real estate. Joel explains how Cambio's platform supports all manner of data-intensive property management functions, including building decarbonization.Joel discusses his years at Google where he was on a team of sustainability managers. Their goal was to decarbonize all of Google's 40 million square feet of real estate by 2030. To do so, they studied hundreds of facilities in many countries... prioritizing projects based on numerous parameters. What Joel realized in that job was the power of AI in sifting through massive amounts of data and developing work plans to decarbonize and advance sustainable practices.Ted and Joel dig into the fact that the data centers that power AI systems are very energy intensive. Ted queries, "Is the Cambio platform a sustainable solution given the energy intensity of AI?" Joel believes that, yes, this application of AI does provide a net societal benefit as retrofits and new construction activities are flagged that make economic sense... measures and carbon savings that would not have been realized absent the AI platform. They also recount Joel's pioneering work for the City of Santa Monica, developing City Hall East, one of the world's most sustainable buildings. Joel acknowledges the key role played by Denis Hayes in promoting the project's unique design features at Santa Monica's City Council. Denis had recently completed the Bullitt Center's radically sustainable headquarters in Seattle, and had encouraged others to follow suit, pushing the envelope of sustainable buildings.Joel highlights a few of City Hall East's greatest challenges: First and foremost was rooftop rainwater collection for potable water. This involved certifying rooftop surfaces -- including solar panels -- for water that is now used for showering and drinking. Another challenge was the inclusion of composting toilets there... the first ever in a public building of its kind.

In this unforgettable episode of Nobody Told Me, we sit down with Rossana D'Antonio — engineer, truth-seeker, and author of the haunting memoir 26 Seconds: Grief and Blame in the Aftermath of Losing My Brother in a Plane Crash. Rosanna talks about the day her younger brother Cesare died in a commercial plane crash just moments before he was supposed to land safely. But this isn't just a story about a tragedy. It's about what happens after the cameras leave. After the system points fingers. After your loved one is blamed for their own death. Rossana opens up about the heartbreak of losing Cesare, the painful process of watching him be scapegoated by the airline industry, and the years she spent digging through wreckage — literal and emotional — to uncover the truth. Together, we talk about grief, rage, silence, memory, and what it means to become your loved one's final advocate. This conversation is raw, real, and deeply human. If you've ever felt powerless after a loss, or if you've ever had to fight to be believed, Rossana's words will stay with you long after the episode ends.

In this episode, Linda revisits and revisions the three “Rs” – reading, writing, and arithmetic – to reformulate a new triad. Why? Because, in her interview with Michaela Di Cesare about her play Successions, Linda learns more about Anthony, one of the main characters, and his disorder, known as prosopagnosia. Di Cesare explains that she thought of this disorder as a means of representing how patriarchal culture is often blind to women and to their needs. Anthony is literally unable to recognize women's faces, unable to read their particularities and individual and very human traits. From this point, Linda develops a broader metaphor, beginning with considerations of literacy (see CBC's recent assessment) to the need to recalibrate our critical reading apparatus – and then Maia Harris suggests Elaine Castillo's How To Read Now. And that sets the stage for the interview. If you'd like to see one of Di Cesare's current plays, Mickey & Joe (Good. Bad. Ugly. Dirty) is set to open at the Mirella & Lino Saputo Theatre from May 17-25 2025. Executive Producer: Linda Morra; Associate Producer: Maia Harris; Sound Producer: James Healey; Music by Raphael Krux ("The Madness of Linda") and Kevin MacLeod ("Natural Vibes"). Hosted on Acast. Just because something is common doesn't mean it's normal. You do NOT have to accept pain, discomfort, and limitations when it comes to sex, pregnancy, and childbirth as “just the way things are.” Dr. Ariana Cesare, a pelvic and obstetric physical therapist, is joining us on this episode of Playing With Fire to bust that myth, and many others, when it comes to pain and pleasure. In this episode, we talk about: — Why pelvic floor physical therapy is critically important (and criminally underutilized) during pregnancy and postpartum — The truth about pain during sex - and why it's never something you just have to accept — How to prepare your body for birth (hint: it's like training for any other athletic event!) — The role of pelvic floor muscles in everything from pleasure to incontinence — Why tampons, speculums, and medical exams should not be painful — Game-changing tools like dilators and Ohnuts thats make penetrative sex more comfortable — How to talk to partners about adjustments during sex — Why pelvic health matters for everyone - including men, trans people, and people with disabilities — The importance of addressing both physical and psychological aspects of pelvic pain Resources mentioned in this episode: — Book a FREE consultation with Dr. Cesare — Follow Dr. Caesare on Instagram @kegels_and_kettlebells — Follow her on TikTok @DrCesare — Slippery Stuff lubricant for sensitive skin JOIN The Year of Opening community for a full year of learning & support. Episode 279 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features former long-time NHL goalie Cesare Maniago and fantastic stories about the life of a top-level puck stopper from the 1960s through the early 1980s.In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Maniago shares his experiences backing up Jacques Plante when he first put on a mask in a game -- and how Plante helped him get fitted for one only to have legendary Canadiens coach Toe Blake scare him off using it. Maniago, now 85, talks about learning to play with catalogues taped to his legs, about starting off with Johnny Bower in Toronto, competing against Ed Giacomin and Don Simmons with the New York Rangers, then playing with and getting coached by Gump Worsley in Minnesota. Maniago's can't miss interview is loaded with great stories and anecdotes that resonate today, including how being tall was a problem back then, how equipment changed the way goalies played, and the importance of having a fellow goalie to help you, which led to him becoming one of the NHL's first goalie coaches. In our Parents Segment, presented by the Stop It Goaltending U app, we dig into the stress that can come with watching our young goalies compete and offer some techniques to help manage it.We also review this week's Pro Reads, which features Joseph Woll of the Toronto Maple Leafs talking about when to look off the puck, and is presented by Vizual Edge, which is fitting because Woll uses their programs to improve his visual skills. And in our weekly gear segment, we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports to continue our look at the various options for young goalies, with a focus on the CCM EFlex 6.5 line.
// Literatur - Sarah Bradford.
