This week on Second Wind, we're bringing in Kyle's buddy Joe Klassen, a pastor with a microphone history and a “let's do the hard thing” streak that somehow led him straight into CrossFit. Joe shares the moment that sparked his whole transformation, and it's the kind of story that hits like a kettlebell to the feelings. From there, we get into what it actually looks like to start from zero, rebuild after setbacks, and learn to check your ego at the door when your body isn't doing what your pride thinks it should. Joe talks about dropping 147 pounds, finding purpose beyond the scale, and why community inside a CrossFit box can feel a lot like the best version of a church. We also get a peek into the weird, wild, and sometimes horrifying side of gym life (yes, there are “earmuffs, kids” moments). But the heart of this episode is simple: becoming the kind of person who can keep showing up, keep moving, and keep being there for the people you love, for decades to come. And because it's Second Wind, we've got plenty of laughs too including “Bless Your Heart” awards, old-man divisions, and a legendary hospital BBQ decision that probably shouldn't have happened. If you've ever wondered whether CrossFit is for “people like us,” this conversation might surprise you. Hit play and come hang with us.

Runner's often experience something known as a runner's high. At the exact moment you're not sure you can keep going, you get a second wind. Even though you're still running, your heart rate drops and your breathing stabilizes. It's like you've tapped into a hidden source of unlimited energy and you can keep going.  The Transfiguration was like that for the disciples. They saw Jesus transformed. His clothes dazzling white. He was radiant, shining with divine light. They see who Jesus is and they are amazed. But they didn't get to stay on the mountaintop. They walked down the mountain and to face the road ahead. More mouths to feed. More strangers to shelter. More tyrants to resist. More prayers to pray. More pain to absorb. Another Tuesday morning. Yes, a glimpse of Christ's glory can sustain us, but more than that, Jesus comes down the mountain with us, which means, we don't have to face the hard road ahead on our own.

We sit down with runner and American Heart Association advocate Molly McGuire from Muncie, IN, and her story grabs us from the first mile. We open on maternal heart health as Molly explains preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome, the warning signs people miss, and why quick action saves lives. We dig into how grief and survival reshaped her outlook, then pivot to the run: the 50-states quest (45 down), pacing in Indiana, and the Honolulu marathon that made her believe she could go the distance. We laugh about costume runners and Converse-at-the-parade blister mistakes, then get real about New York's tough day and the 12-week grind back from a wrecked gait. We talk origin stories, the first half that taught her the power of good shoes, and the community she's built coast to coast—even when the local scene didn't fit. We celebrate a 100-pound weight-loss journey, labs turning around, and choosing a few miles over a few drinks on stressful days. We shout out the partners and best friends who make these trips possible, and why “your only competition is yourself” might be the best newbie advice we've heard. We wrap with Molly's A-number-one race pick (Key West in January), plus practical takeaways: know the red flags, check your BP, and speak up for the people you love. It's heart health, hard lessons, and the joy of showing up—Second Wind style.

Happy New Years everyone! 2026 is going to start off with a very special guest! This week on Second Wind, we hand the mic to Lisa Watkins, host of Behind the Bib, whose mantra is simple: do it scared, then do it again. From a first solo half during lockdown to building a fiercely welcoming run community, Lisa shares how showing up—imperfect and honest—can change your running and your life. She lets us peek at a live-wire moment moderating a conversation with a certain legendary mastermind of sufferfests, plus a pacing story that turned nerves into someone else's breakthrough. We talk tribe over times, vibes over splits, and why a good laugh (and the right friends) can carry you farther than any gel. If you've ever wondered whether you “belong” in this sport, Lisa's answer is a resounding yes—and the way she gets there might surprise you. Come for the stories, stay for the spark to register for the thing that scares you a little.

This week on Second Wind, we sit down with Sam, a Kansas City runner whose quiet grit and generous spirit light up every start line. You've probably seen her out there: compact, powerful, and moving with purpose as she shares the course with her son, mile after mile. Sam walks us through our ten core questions with disarming honesty—how she started, what keeps her coming back, the hard days that taught her the most, and the community that makes each finish line feel like home. She talks about joy as a discipline, finding strength in small routines, and redefining “tough” in ways that go beyond pace or podiums. It's an hour of heart, humor, and practical wisdom from a runner who leads by example. If you need a reminder that running can be both simple and profoundly brave, this conversation is your spark.

If you've ever wondered what happens when three grown adults argue passionately about grammar, moonbeams, seagulls, and the metaphysics of Strahd's horse, all before actually starting the podcast, this episode is for you. Join us as we journey into Heroes of Faerûn, where the subclasses are shiny, the Rangers are frosty, and the Fighters are apparently running a full unionized workplace. Grab your bag of rats (don't ask), center your Moonbeam, and enjoy the chaos. Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the crew continues their deep-dive review of Dungeons & Dragons Heroes of Faerûn, the first major D&D 2024 splatbook offering new character options, subclasses, spells, epic boons, and setting lore. Building off Part 1's work, the hosts, Randall James, Tyler Kamstra, and Ash Ely, dig into the subclass content of the book with their usual combination of mechanical rigor, Shakespearean comedy, and at least one argument about whether it's a hero or an hero. The team analyzes each of the eight new Heroes of Faerûn subclasses, comparing their final published versions to the Unearthed Arcana playtests and to classic 2014 analogues: College of the Moon Bard blends druidic flavor with support-focused magic, teleportation, and weirdly effective Moonbeam healing loops involving birds and french fries. Knowledge Domain Cleric, updated from 2014, remains a powerhouse of divination, foresight, and skill mastery—Tyler's official religion. Banneret Fighter, once the Purple Dragon Knight, is reborn as a charismatic battlefield commander who turns every Second Wind and Action Surge into a team-wide buff. "This is our subclass, comrade." Oath of Noble Genies Paladin channels elemental smites, shifting resistances, and the magic of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water into a versatile new oath. Winterwalker Ranger arrives as a chilly striker specializing in cold damage, Hunter's Mark synergies, and making Frostraven Conservationists everywhere cry. Additional discussion previews the Sign of the Three Rogue, Spellfire Sorcery Sorcerer, and Bladesinger Wizard, with the team offering insights into where each subclass sits within the new 2024 design philosophy. Along the way, the hosts recount a dramatic Curse of Strahd in-game betrayal, debate 1990s kids' TV fever dreams, and reveal how a basket of fries can become an infinite healing engine. It's a glorious mess. It's D&D. It's RPGBOT. Materials References in This Episode Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun (affiliate link) Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun (affiliate link) Key Takeaways General Heroes of Faerûn is the first true D&D 2024 character-option splatbook, in the tradition of Xanathar's and Tasha's, packed with subclasses, feats, spells, and lore. The majority of subclasses saw significant nerfs from Unearthed Arcana, reinforcing WotC's new balance philosophy. College of the Moon Bard A hybrid support bard borrowing from druidic themes. Strong teleport-invisibility support, limited offensive tools, and a wild Moonbeam healing mechanic ripe for table shenanigans. Knowledge Domain Cleric A faithful update of the 2014 version. Expertise in two knowledge skills, powerful divination tools, short-rest spell economy, and endgame foresight. One of the strongest "planning" subclasses in D&D 2024. Banneret Fighter A complete reimagining of the Purple Dragon Knight, now an excellent party leader and tactical commander. Shares Second Wind healing, grants team-wide advantages, and enables coordinated movement and attacks through Action Surge. Simple to play, powerful in groups, great for new players wanting high impact. Oath of Noble Genies Paladin The "elements paladin," using Elemental Smites for flavorful battlefield control. Highly flexible and accessible, though spell list may feel inconsistent. Winterwalker Ranger Cold-focused striker with explosive damage potential toned down from UA. Hunter's Mark dependency remains but gains flavorful ice-themed tools. Solid, straightforward, and thematically cohesive. Overall Subclass diversity in Heroes of Faerûn sets a strong precedent for future 2024 design. Party-support subclasses (Banneret, Moon Bard) shine particularly bright. This book positions itself as the real launch point for 2024 character customization. Dacia Moore, licensed counselor and founder of Second Wind Counseling & Consulting,  has dedicated her career to helping African Americans understand the benefits of therapy, take a proactive approach to mental wellness, and become their best selves. She's the author of Why Are So Many Students So Angry? and the forthcoming From Stuck to Unstoppable. In this episode, Dacia traces her mission back to her Jamaican mother, Dorothy, whose struggle with depression became a living picture of what it means to be "stuck." Watching Dorothy's pain - and her resilience - taught Dacia that staying stuck has a cost, and that faith, work ethic, and getting help are how we move again. We talk about recognizing when to ask for support and take a break, knowing when to let go and move on, navigating depression with compassion, and guiding our children with the hard-earned wisdom of our own experiences. There are many Christians who may be doing all the right things for awhile but then slip back into old sin habits. We need to be watchful for these brothers and sisters to help pick them up when they fall, knowing that there may be a time coming when we will need that kind of help. God promises blessing to those who obey Him to the end. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/640/29

In the Wright Brother's story of flight, wind was an essential ingredient. First it was the natural winds of Kitty Hawk—they learned to master the gusting winds, gain lift, and soar. But, then, in 1904, they needed to figure out how to fly even when there wasn't any wind. And this challenge proved to be an even greater problem. Like Wilbur and Orville, we, too, must learn to “fly” when the first winds fail. We must gain a second wind. ------------» Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/» Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/» For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily» If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/» Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/
