A couple of months ago the motherboard died. I wanted to record TV directly to one of my UNRAID servers up in the attic. Unfortunately, there are no TV aerial coax connections in the attic. I decided to buy this box. You can plug the HDHomeRun into your aerial in the lounge and use the other aerial connector to plug directly into the TV. The HD Homerun has an ethernet port so I can connect to another box somewhere on the network. Using Emby I can connect directly to the box to watch live TV. Emby on my UNRAID server supports HDHomeRun, so I can record TV programs using the schedule from the HDHomerun. I can watch Emby recordings from anywhere else on the planet that has WiFi and decent Internet access. HDHomeRun app on both Android and iOS that allows you to record programs and watch the recordings. Steve Litchfield on Why you (probably) don't need a VPN You're absolutely safe without a VPN. Every Internet-facing application accesses data over an already-secure connection. There's nothing bad guys could do even if they were to somehow intercept random batches of your over-the-air 1s and 0s. VPNs are OTT security. It will make activity significantly slower, because of extra encryption - pages will take longer to load, videos will buffer more. You just don't need a VPN. You really don't. Even in a dodgy cybercafe in Turkey. Your own encryption, built into your OS and applications, is quite enough. One caveat to all this - VPN's ability to fake where you are in the world to a service that you're accessing. Which is borderline illegal, or at least against terms of service of whichever service you're accessing. But so what? Save your money! Today's guest on the podcast is Rory Sweeney!Mostly known for acclaimed production work for artists such as Sello, Curtisy, Kojaque, Aoife Wolf, EMBY and Pippa Molony, Rory seamlessly traverses mainstream and experimental sounds. He is the current AVA Festival Producer of the Year recipient. His work has landed him on countless end of year lists over the past 3 years, having seen support from several acclaimed artists such as Rejjie Snow, Lord Apex, Machine Girl, Objekt, Neffa T, Oblig, Kelly Moran, Sha Ru, MI EL, Will Bankhead, Maria Somerville, DJ Spit, J Colleran (MMOTHS) and Shampain.'We will be primarily chatting about the album Rory just released, which is titled Carlos Danger Presents: Irish Hash Mafia, which features 12 MCs rapping over incredible beats that Rory made.Irish Hash Mafia mixtape is a love letter to the DIY sound and ethos of 90s Southern Hip Hop, as well as a time capsule of the left field DIY sounds being explored by the Irish underground. Myself and a lot of the artists here are starting to get caught up in the cogs of the music industry and I think its important to put out this mixtape as an archive of the free spirited sounds we've been exploring together over the past 2-3 years. The mixtape, While primarily being southern trap, also explores other fringe sounds, such as experimental grime and abstract hip hop amongst others. Irish Hash MafiaAlbum launch gig in the Button Factory! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Episode 201 is a journey through some of the last 35 years in music through the medium of the sample, from the Amen break to famous sample-heavy albums to our own personal favourite sampled songs. We discuss how an obscure 1960s B-side became the most sampled song in history and helped birth genres like drum and bass and jungle. We explore the sample art of albums like DJ Shadow's Entroducing, Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique, J Dilla's Donuts, Girl Talk's Night Ripper and The Avalanches' Since I Left You.And then Niall and Andrea share their favourite samples including but not limited to music from Steely Dan, Super Furry Animals, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Burial, Kate Bush, ABBA, James Blake, Skepta and a disco Beethoven true original. The track that kicked off the idea was Rory Sweeney and Emby's 'All My Life' which samples Kendrick's 'Backseat Freestyle'.Shout out to Tracklib on Youtube for some of the audio sample beds.Songs referenced on his episode, and their samples are listed here. Belfast rapper Emby has really come to the fore after lockdown with performances at AVA, Plain Sailing Belfast and Crilli DNB. He's been steadily releasing music of his own, hopping between rap, jungle, dnb and just about anything else he fancies. It puts him in the unique position where he satisfies both the pickiest hip hop heads and dance music die hards. We talked about Ireland's attitude towards art and creativity generally, working with Curtisy, Rory Sweeney and Ahmed, With Love. and the media's propensity to box in black artists as “urban music”.

Tailscale is "A secure network that just works with Zero config VPN. Installs on any device in minutes, manages firewall rules for you, and works from anywhere " Tailscale is built around the Wireguard VPN, which runs on almost any platform and is now built into the Linux kernel. You can use the basic product to connect up to 20 devices for nothing. I have it installed on my UNraid server which is running Tailscale inside a Docker container. Setting this up took all of 10 minutes. Next, I installed Tailscale on my Android phone and could use it to view my Emby media server via 4g. As it's a VPN all traffic between your computers is encrypted. There is an experimental MagicDNS that automatically registers DNS names for computers on your network, so you can use URLs that are easy to remember such as "mymediaserver" instead of having to remember its IP address. An additional plus point is that it somehow works on networks using CGNAT (mobile phones and Starlink) so you can access your phone from your computer via a web browser. The guys talk about The Social Dilemma and how it is still relevant and while Facebook and other Social Networks offer great ways to connect with family and friends and find likeminded users of a groups or hobbies it is something that can get away from us. Facebook does offer a tool within its own settings though to allow users to streamline content by managing Ad Settings, Andy talks about how to get to this area in Facebook. The guys talk about Squid Games and how it has become a global Phenomenon for Netflix. The Most watched show in the History of the Streaming Service. Andy tells us why he hated the first episode of the show but how it grabbed on with the change in the Second Episode. Find out what's happening in 2020 before it happens. Our crew returns from the future with predictions so perfect you could bet some Dogecoin on it. Special Guests: Alex Kretzschmar and Brent Gervais.
We've been busy with the holidays and took a short break. We're back with a new episode to start 2020. In this edition, we cover what we've done these past few weeks. Nate (https://destinationlinux.network/creators/nathan-wolf/) tells us more about his holiday lighting project and Eric (https://destinationlinux.network/creators/eric-adams/) talks about EndeavourOS, Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix and that leads us into a discussion on how Linux distributions differentiate themselves. We received some listener feedback from Anthony Lavado of the Jellyfin (https://jellyfin.org/) project which leads to a discussion on home media servers like Jellyfin, Plex and Emby. Jason Evangelho's account of his 12 Months of Discovery on Linux for Everyone (https://destinationlinux.network/shows/linux-for-everyone/) over the past two episodes prompted us to look back at our 2019 experience to see what discoveries of our own we've made. Destination Linux (https://destinationlinux.network/shows/destination-linux/) covered the Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix (https://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu-cinnamon-remix/) releases and pondered the merit of an Ubuntu Cinnamon flavor. There was a lot of talk about Linux Mint already filling that space but I disagree. This Week in Linux (https://destinationlinux.network/shows/this-week-in-linux/) covered the release of Feren OS which was recently made available. It's a fascinating example of what someone can achieve in the open source world. We discuss the merits of Feren OS and lovingly poke a bit of fun at its creator. Lastly, our friend Zeb undertook a monumental 24 live stream on his Zebedee Gaming (https://destinationlinux.network/shows/zebedee-gaming/) YouTube channel. He was raising money for DLN's first charity collaboration with FreeGeek (https://www.freegeek.org/). The total came out to an impressive $1,500. Congratulations to Zeb and FreeGeek. Certainly a great way to end the year! That's all for this week. Be sure to stop by DLN's Discourse (https://discourse.destinationlinux.network/), Telegram (https://destinationlinux.org/telegram), Mumble (https://destinationlinux.network/mumble/) and Discord (https://destinationlinux.org/discord) servers to continue the discussion. More information about this show and other Destination Linux Network shows and creators is available at destinationlinux.network (https://destinationlinux.network/). Until next time, see yas!
On this episode of DLN Xtend we discuss our week with elementary OS 15.1 Hera and Emby and home media servers. Our community segment converges with Linux for Everyone where Jason asks the question "What do you appreciate about Linux compared to Windows?". Destination Linux interviewed Hilary Shohoney of FreeGeek. FreeGeek is the first charity chosen by the Destination Linux Network as part of our effort to give back to the Linux community. They also covered one of our favorite audio apps, PulseEffects. On This Week in Linux, Michael mentioned the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS survey and all of the effort going into the KDE Plasma 5.18 LTS release. Finally, we finish up on with KDE's Discovery software center. Be sure to stop by the DLN Discourse, Telegram, Mumble and Discord to continue the discussion. More information about this show and other Destination Linux Network shows and creators is available at destinationlinux.network. We appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to listen to our podcast. If there's anything we can do to improve please let us know. Thank you!

Main Topic: This week we invaded Palabras Bookstore (thanks Rosie) with 3 of the 5 members of Emby Alexander: Michael, Austin, and Jorge. They're a band based out of Phoenix (with the exception of Austin. Hey Seattle!). They've gotten a ton of comparisons but if I had to attach a label I'd go with experimental indie (vs. indie experimental). We discuss how they get creative on tour not just on stage but in the kitchen, their latest singles, the growing pains of gentrification in Phoenix and how it can affect creativity, the lost art of the visual, and how creating the movie soundtrack for Chameleon (written and directed by Trevvor Riley, 2017) differed from creating an album for the band. [spp-player] Show Notes for Episode #162 October 18.2017 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK [spp-timestamp time="1:45"] Mike and Jennifer Wendland We're still down on the beautiful Emerald Coast of Florida's panhandle and because we've heard from a number of you who would like to meet us, we're going to try something – a meet and greet afternoon next Sunday, October 22. We're going to meet on Navarre Beach, at the entrance of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Now because of the recent Hurricane Nate, the national seashore drive is closed just west of Navarre Beach. But the meet spot we picked is just to the left, or east of the bridge leading from Highway 98 and the mainland to Navarre Beach. Jennifer and I will be there from 2PM on and whoever shows up, shows up. Bring some beach chairs and refreshments and we'll hang out for the afternoon on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Just look for our 2017 Roadtrek CS Adventurous XL 4X4 and come by and say hello. If there are any updates it, we'll post a notice on our Roadtreking Facebook Group and Our Roadtreking Facebook Page so check there for the latest. We're excited to see fuel prices dropping once again…especially east of the Mississippi. A new survey from AAA says that the national gas price average has dropped two cents on the week to $2.47, states east of the Mississippi are paying as much as eight cents less at the start of this week. While gas prices are more expensive than a year ago, the past five weeks of sustained weekly declines indicate that demand may be leveling out alongside refineries and pipelines returning to pre-hurricane operations. In September, Hurricane Harvey drove gas prices to the highest price of the year – $2.67. That was a 32-cent increase inside of 12 days. Now nearly seven weeks post hurricane, gas prices have shown steady decline dropping a total of 20 cents since September 11, 2017 We're really excited about the phenomenal growth of our YouTube RV Lifestyle Channel. We are now getting almost 1 million video views EACH month. We continue to put two videos up each week, as well as regular live reports, and we thank you for subscribing to the channel. This portion of the Podcast is brought to you by Campers Inn, the RVer's trusted resource for over 50 years, the nation's largest family-operated RV dealership with 16 locations and growing JENNIFER'S TIP OF THE WEEK [spp-timestamp time="11:45"] One of the reasons we so enjoy doing meet and greets like the one we're planning for Florida this week, or attending RV gatherings and rallies around the country is the opportunity it presents to pick up valuable suggestions and tips from other RVers. In North Carolina a couple of weeks ago, we met the Emby family, who shared with us how they pack and organize for RV trips using Ikea bags. Thanks Embry family! We will definitely pick up some of those Ikea bags. And for all of you listening today, be sure to send me your tips and suggestions for the RV lifestyle. You can use the “Leave Voicemail” link at Roadtreking.com. Just click it and then use the built-in microphone on your computer or mobile devise to record a message to me. You can do it over as many times as you want, until you are satisfied. And then you just click a button and it comes right to my email inbox. I love hearing from you!

In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. Tracklisting: 01. Skin Horse 'Slow Learner' (Fina) 02.
