Due to several big-time free agents still unsigned, some MLB players are talking players strike. Chip and Cern dig little into what started the 1994 MLB Strike. Chip and Cern review the Adam Wainwright clip where he is talking about a strike. Find out who is still unsigned, how much are they making and some Giants salary talk on this episode of the Chip and Cern Show. Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are the two biggest free agents that are yet to be signed and many think that owners are colluding against these big players and their contracts. Chip has some tips on how to get the strike does not look like some money grab. Chip and Cern learn up about what caused the 1994 strike and how it affected the game after that. Chip just starts reading off some stats from the 1994 strike-shortened season. Cern has a great point in saying the game of baseball isn’t ready for a strike. MLB.com's Matthew Leach and fantasy expert Fred Zinkie discuss Mike Trout being forced out of action with a torn ligament in his left thumb, what it means to fantasy owners and how it affects the rest of the Angels lineup. Former MVP Dustin Pedroia is back on the disabled list, is he a guy that could be dropped in some leagues? (9:39) Rough starts from Todd Frazier, Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber have been a cause for concern to many owners and they have been dropped in smaller leagues. (12:30) Next, the guys take a closer look at intriguing fantasy hitters like Trea Turner (18:30), Jonathan Villar (20:27) and Buster Posey (22:25). Starting pitchers that are discussed are the injured Danny Duffy (25:47), Danny Salazar being moved to the bullpen (27:05), strikeout machine Robbie Ray (28:00), Houston's Lance McCullers (29:28) and the Mets' Matt Harvey (32:34). Finally, the crew chat about the Padres closer candidates (36:30), relievers Tony Watson (38:00), Santiago Casilla and Raisel Iglesias. (38:52)
The big news of the week is the Aroldis Chapman injury. Although it’s big news, there is really no corresponding move because Betances should have already been owned. KRod lost the gig and Josh Wilson steps into the role. The next KRod looks to be Fernando Rodney, but who will be the next guy? JJ Hoover? Not exciting. The Washington situation is completely off the wall. How long can they keep letting these guys blow wins? Santiago Casilla and Brad Brach are guys that had bad weeks that we aren’t panicked about. We move from the guys that end games to guys that start them. Todd picked up Jose Berios and we talk about Berios vs Urias. Todd + Kool Aid = Urias Apologist. What do y’all think? ALERT: We announce the official Prospect of the Podcast for 2017. * dramatic pause * Kyle Tucker! This 3B in the Astros systems, but this guy is absolutely mashing. He’s got speed, power, average, and youth. This guy looks like the real deal. Will he be up this year? It’s doubtful, but we want to believe. While the Astros are stacked, the left fielder is a weak spot. Could Tucker come up and play left?!? Only time will tell. Another prospect that we were pumping earlier but said was not going to get called up, got the call this week. Ian Happ has a chance to stick with the Cubs although we aren’t sure where he’ll play. He’s got the bat that plays, but where would he slot into the Cubs big league squad. We wonder if Kyle Schwarber’s struggles could open up a spot for Happ. We end the pod with what we do best. Rummaging through the dreck looking for diamonds in the rough. I’ll let y’all listen to see what we dig up. As always, check us out on Twitter @2020AllStars, Instagram 2020AllStars, and iTunes. Season 5 Episode 6 (50:22)
Santiago Casilla endures a rough 9th inning as the A's drop the series opener to the Rangers
A's manager Bob Melvin discusses Andrew Triggs' great start to the season and how is not surprised by his performance thus far, Adam Rosales' homer and how it gave the team momentum, not letting up a single walk, Yonder Alonso's defensive miscue, Ryon Healy's pinch hit and improving plate vision of late and the decision whether to use Ryan Madson or Santiago Casilla in the 9th
John Halpin and Ryan Fowler discuss the first week of the fantasy season, including players such as Byron Buxton, Dylan Bundy, Santiago Casilla, Ryan Dull, Greg Holland, Cam Bedrosian, Huston Street, Sam Dyson, Jeremy Jeffress, Matt Bush, Shelby Miller, Noah Syndergaard, Corey Kluber, Khris Davis, Stephen Vogt and Carlos Santana.
One of the Athletics key additions, Santiago Casilla, still has not reported to Spring Training with the team yet. MLB.com's Alyson Footer and Athletics reporter Jane Lee discuss why Casilla has not been able to enter the country yet to join his teammates and why Sonny Gray will not be allowed to pitch in the 2017 WBC.
Sonny Gray remains a hot commodity when it comes to teams looking for starting pitching help. Athletics reporter Jane Lee discusses the chance that Gray could be dealt either before the season or at the deadline and breaks down the Trevor Plouffe and Santiago Casilla signings.
Oakland is beginning to finalize its roster as we head toward Spring Training. MLB.com's Matt Waymire and Athletics reporter Jane Lee discuss the Trevor Plouffe and Santiago Casilla signings and where they fit into the plans for 2017.
Ben and Adam discuss Bruce Bochy’s maddening decision to use Santiago Casilla in a one-run save situation on Saturday, which led to another blown save and crucial loss. The Giants are 22-37 in the second half, and they cling to just a one game lead on a playoff spot with 13 games remaining.
Ben and Adam discuss Hunter Strickland’s dominant performance in his first chance to close out a game since Santiago Casilla was (temporarily?) removed from the closer’s role on Friday. They also address the horrific managerial decision by Bruce Bochy to let Casilla face Jake Lamb in the 10th inning on Friday night in a save […]
Hey, the Giants have won 4 out of their last 5 and turned a 1-4 roadtrip into a 5-5 with great starting pitching and Hunter Pence playing like frickin' Hunter Pence, wildly flailing appendages, hair and all! The Giants still have a slim shot at the division and hold a lead on a wild card spot. Chad and Eric talk about their chances, Santiago Casilla, and if Bochy has developed dementia all in episode 111. twitter.com/torturecast facebook.com/torturecast www.torturecast.com
The Giants get their first sweep of the second half and they finally have a memorable game in September that harkens back to successful seasons of yore. Do the next few weeks promise more of this sweeptastic Giants team or something more akin to the majority of the second half? Meanwhile, Santiago Casilla's 8th blown save on Friday night means he's blown as many saves in a season for the Giants since Armando Benitez. But Casilla's frequent failures feel a lot less his fault and a lot more his manager sextupling down on one of his players just to prove to the clubhouse that he'll back his guys through thick and thin. Has Bochy really learned his lesson, or will Javier Lopez keep getting chances to walk the one guy he'll face in a series? We also answer your really good Twitter questions, explaining why Yoenis Cespedes will never be a Giant and why STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is a slow movie. You might already know the answer to the Cespedes bit, but there's a good chance you'll learn something new about the Star Trek fact. Wait. What's that? You've already tuned out? Fair enough. Santiago Casilla is NOT an automatic closer. STOP TREATING HIM LIKE HE IS ONE! This not a small sample size anymore!
Episode 8 of BMore Wired is titled "Fashion Police" after another not-so-Baltimore sports podcast gave us a shout out on the air recently. We greatly appreciate it. So much so, Scott made Jason and Jerry his "Beefed It!" of the week. Thanks for everything guys. Joe is a night removed from joining a New York podcast to preview the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees this week. On the show "Yanks Go Hard" Joe was asked about a season grade for the O's and that is a topic Scott answers on this show. The guys also go into detail about Dylan Bundy's first start, an MVP and LVP for each and discuss some of the trade rumors floating around. Scott goes ballistic about finding some starting pitching which is a must hear. Joe and Scott were pleased to have their first guest on this episode as The Baltimore Wire staff writer Kyle Andrews joins the show. Kyle gives his thoughts on the Orioles and also has a great story about a basketball game between some MLB stars that took place when he was part of the Orioles groundsk'eeping crew. We also discuss Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker getting a new contract and Kyle ends his time on the show discussing the Washington Wizards. We want to thank Kyle for joining the show. The guys continue the discussion about Tucker and dive into who they feel should be next to get a payday from the Ravens. We also got news earlier in the day that quarterback Joe Flacco will be ready for the start of training camp. Fantastic news for Charm City. The guys close out the show with two hilarious Crying Jordans of the Week and their "7s" which is a discussion of random stories in sports. Here are the "7s" for this week: 1. Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson put on a terrific show in the The Open Championship aka British Open. It was Stenson's first Major win and he broke a Major record wit ha 264 score, meanwhile it was the 11th time that Mickelson has been the runner-up in a Major tournament. 2. All-Star game festivities ended with the AL winning the game and Giancarlo Stanton winning the Home Run Derby, which Scott predicted. Mark Trumbo hit some bombs in the Derby and Britton got the save in the game which was great to see. 3. The most bizarre story of this week might be the news that Daryl Strawberry and the New York Mets used to get it on in between innings during games. Does this surprise anyone? Things used to be much different back then. And we are jealous we were not a part of it. 4. The San Francisco Giants lost an extra-inning game over the weekend after Santiago Casilla balked in the game-winning run. Scott has an interesting take as to why Casillia balked on the play. 5. Brock Lesnar is under scrutiny for potential doping violation and that makes UFC 200 the worst pay-per-view in the company's history. The "You don't think that he was on steroids? I mean, he's the biggest man I've ever seen," explains how we feel about this situation. 6. Sticking on the UFC discussion, there was a fight that ended with one fighter throwing a Poke ball at an opponent after knocking him out. The guys get a real chuckle out of this one. 7. Tom Brady was denied an appeal and will FINALLY serve his four-game suspension from Deflategate. Does anyone really care about the case? The one thing we all agree on is thankfully it did not go to the Supreme Court and cost us tax dollars over some deflated footballs. More important things going on in this country than Brady and his balls. This week's episode ends with our "Beefed It!" where Joe takes a shot at the Seattle Mariners, while Scott continues to let Jason and Jerry get some. It was another fun week for BMore Wired. Now cue the Delmon Young.
The Giants end a 4-2 week on a high note by snapping the Mets' winning streak, but there are definitely some questions about the back of the rotation and the bullpen. Maybe the organization doesn't want to focus on that too much, but the near-traumatic impact of a Jake Peavy or Matt Cain start makes it difficult for us here at the ol' Chroncast to focus on anything else about the team. Just how long a leash do you think the team should give these two going forward? But we do manage to focus a lot of our attention on the truly great elements on the roster: Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Madison Bumgarner, and Matt Duffy. And we spend some time kicking ourselves for not talking up Santiago Casilla enough over the years. We also answer your Twitter questions. Did you know the Chroncast is now available on Stitcher? We're also available on iTunes and directly through our RSS feed. Like, rate, comment, and share! As always, you can listen on this page through the player below. Learn more about your ad choices. This week we pull back the curtain of the podcast only to reveal dozens of empty yogurt cups and piles of saved copies of USA Today and Highlights for children. The clutter forces the gang out into a larger, amazingly less well lit space within the bomb shelter for our 1st annual season finale lovingly known as Lousypalooza. Joining SK and Squidge at the kid's table are local comic and stand-up contest winner Dave West as well as, friend of the podcast and enemy of dry underarms, Pete Feliciano. First we briefly visit with Throng members Suzy L and PJ before we realize that they both thought they were at Giants Fan Fest and mistook Dave for Santiago Casilla. Next up, former Coco-hosts, Indigo Java and Michelle Thomas step up to the microphone and show us all why the two were never able to make it work. Of course, We also have time to talk with Babette and Squidge but at least we regret it. There were a few songs that Pete is proud of but no one had the heart to tell him that all of his parts were over-dubbed by Jack Black. Look at us world! And we'll make sure to cut and paste our resume in the body of the email!
Hi, this is Grant. Just wanted to let you know there's a McCovey Chronicles podcast now! I know, I'm surprised too. On Wednesday, Bryan emailed me and said, "Hey, would you want me and groug to do a podcast?" And I was like, "Oh, sure," and then on Thursday, he emailed me a podcast. In this podcast, there is talk about Bruce Bochy and Dave Righetti spooning. It comes before the talk of Angel Pagan and Santiago Casilla spooning. You didn't know you needed this. I didn't know I needed this. We most certainly needed this. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We begin our week with 1Bs for the second half including a big name that we are down on. Namely, we discuss Brandon Belt vs a slew of names. Spoiler, we like Belt. Then we move on to what to do with Cliff Lee, will he come back strong or is it time to sell? There is a bit of discussion about our favorite topic, Closerpocalypse 2014. Hopefully, you moved on my Santiago Casilla suggestion as he was announced as the guy on Sunday. Onto the big trade this week. You would think we would have a long segment about Oakland and Chicago, but instead we meander into a discussion of the 1977 Dodgers. That’s what happens when you get a couple kids from LA talking baseball. Season 2 Episode 15 (52:15)
