In this episode of MatTalk, Jason and John break down Matlock Season 6, Episode 16 – “The Big Payoff.” Things take an unexpected turn when Ben Matlock, ever the frugal attorney, hires a hitchhiker to paint his house… who turns out to be none other than country music legend Randy Travis! While Ben deals with a paint job and some southern charm, Michelle Thomas teams up with an insurance adjuster to investigate the suspicious murder of an ad producer. Is this a straightforward case of insurance fraud, or is there a deeper scheme behind the “big payoff”? We explore the episode's dual storylines, share standout moments, and discuss how Matlock masterfully blends humor, mystery, and justice in its signature style. Whether you've been watching since the Andy Griffith days or you're discovering the series for the first time, this review is packed with nostalgia, insight, and TV history.

They highlight the importance of understanding Medicare's coverage limitations, such as the lack of long-term care and routine dental or vision care, and discuss options like Medigap policies to supplement coverage. The session also addresses enrollment strategies, penalties for late enrollment, and the nuances of Medicare Advantage plans. The panelists encourage attendees to utilize resources like the Medicare Plan Finder and local State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP) for personalized counseling. Words of Healing: Navigating Bad Therapy & the Power of Writing with Michelle Thomas

Writing provides a safe space to delve into our thoughts and emotions, explore our relationships, and reflect on our life stories, dreams, and aspirations. It serves as a powerful tool for making sense of our experiences, allowing us to navigate and overcome trauma while facilitating personal growth and change. Writing therapy, often referred to as journal therapy, is exactly what it sounds like: using writing, typically in a journal, for therapeutic benefits. This approach is low-cost, easily accessible, and incredibly versatile. It can be practiced individually, guided by a mental health professional, or even in a group setting with discussions centered around writing. Additionally, it can serve as a supplement to other forms of therapy. In this episode of The Happier Life Project, host Gabby Sanderson welcomes back bestselling author Michelle Thomas, known for her book 'My S**t Therapist & Other Mental Health Stories'. Together, they delve into the transformative power of writing as a therapeutic tool. What to expect... Michelle talks about her passion for writing about mental health and her commitment to incorporating and amplifying others' stories. She explains how writing has become a vital tool in her self-care toolkit and why it can be a healing resource for everyone, regardless of their writing ability.  During the conversation, Michelle also gives listeners a glimpse into her upcoming book, set to explore the often-overlooked subject of regret, set for release in 2025. While keeping most details under wraps, Michelle hints at how regret plays a significant role in our emotional landscape and can actually serve as a powerful tool for reflection and personal growth.  Gabby and Michelle also discuss the challenges of finding a good therapist and the lessons learned from difficult experiences. Plus, they consider Prince Harry's suggestion to rename 'mental health' as 'mental fitness'—is it just semantics, or could it represent a significant shift?  Through the act of writing, we can discover our unique voices and gain deeper insights into ourselves. Whether journaling, composing poetry, or simply jotting down thoughts, the written word empowers us to confront our challenges and embrace our journeys. In a world that often feels overwhelming, writing can be a transformative practice that nurtures our mental well-being and enhances our understanding of ourselves. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just curious about the healing process of writing, this episode offers valuable insights and inspiration. In the first of two episodes with best-selling author Michelle Thomas, host Gabby Sanderson explores how small, everyday moments can bring joy, healing, and comfort. From the soothing ambiance of coffee shops to the therapeutic calm of spending time with animals, this episode highlights some subtle yet powerful ways to nurture mental wellness. Michelle Thomas' first book, 'My S**t Therapist and Other Mental Health Stories', is a raw, heart warming, and sharp-witted exploration of life with mental illness. The book topped the Audible charts, surpassing Michelle Obama and J.K. Rowling to claim the number one spot; and to coincide, Michelle also hosted a podcast under the same name, available on all major platforms. Gabby and Michelle discuss the mental benefits of cozy coffee spots, the pure pleasure of getting lost in a good book, and the surprising solace found in spending time with animals, like feeding baby goats! Michelle's candid take on mental health and her personal journey has resonated with many, and in this episode, she shares insights on why these simple acts of self-care can be just as impactful as traditional therapy. Michelle and Gabby also talk about the importance of finding the right job for you and your wellbeing. And share stories how they both walked away from fancy job titles and companies with kudos, to pursue doing what they love and maintaining a healthier work life balance.  In part one with Michelle Thomas, discover the power of small, everyday joys in nurturing mental health, and how they may be the unsung heroes of our healing process. Grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea and settle in for a chat that will leave you rethinking the simple, soothing moments in your life... EP 66: Find Your Voice - How to Increase the Power of Your Speech  Have you ever noticed someone self-sabotaging their own speech? Phrases like, “Sorry to bother you,” “This is a little thing,” and “It's probably nothing but…” are all examples of instances that reduce the power of our speech. When we engage in self-defeating speech, we silence our own voices. In large organizations, many working professionals struggle with the feeling of personal uncertainty in communicating…especially women. Because there are no guarantees when we communicate with others, it can be risky. As a result, we may choose to “over qualify” our messages or self-sabotage our words as a way to mitigate the perceived risk.   Listen to our episode about How to Increase the Power of Your Speech! Let us handle the legal stuff so you can focus on your mental and emotional health. Find a therapist, friend circle, spiritual advisor, etc. Hiring the right attorney for you is one of the most important decisions about your divorce. How to hire the right lawyer for your case:Ask for referrals from friends and colleaguesDo initial consultations with at least 2 attorneys. Ask:what percentage of your practice is devoted to family law?are you a trial lawyer or settlement lawyer?do you have time to take my case? Find out how fast you can expect responses/communication from them.Make sure all your questions have been answered clearly by the end of the consultation so you can make an informed decision. How to save money during a divorce:Be cooperative with your lawyer; comply with their requests and needs and organize your records for them so you don't have to pay them to do that. If they have to follow up with you repeatedly, that will add up too. Be mindful of how much you talk to your lawyer. Is this really something you need to speak to your attorney about? Or can you talk to your therapist or vent to a friend? If you are seeking revenge on your spouse, that will cost you. The more contentious your divorce is, the more filings your attorney will have to file. Can't be petty; have to be willing and ready to negotiate.

In this episode, I talk to writer, poet, and author Michelle “Mocha” Thomas. Michelle's story is one of leaving behind everything that was comfortable and known to her to start a new chapter focused on pursuing her dream of writing. But life had other plans for her and before she knew it, she found herself living the same life she left… just in a new city. Michelle is a uniquely positive person and has a refreshing outlook on life. She is a great example of the importance of being honest with ourselves.   Michelle's story focuses on the following key points:   How when we hit rock bottom, we have a choice – play the victim or take ownership of the decisions that led us there… and how taking ownership essentially empowers us to pull ourselves out. How easy it can be to fall back into our comfortable routines vs. going for what we really want – falling into the trap of the “one day I'm going to…” How important it is to have the tough conversations with ourselves and admit to ourselves that we are actually the ones holding us back. How so many of us go with the flow vs. intentionally go after what we want… however we can have different reasons behind that. The importance – and difficulty – of showing up for ourselves… not just for other people.   You can find and follow Michelle here: Mochamichelle.com Her book – Give A Little Gain A Lot Instagram @mocha_chelle   Please SUBSCRIBE, SHARE, RATE, and REVIEW the podcast!   Follow the podcast on Instagram @TheBetterYouPodcast.
