Join the conversation in our community at https://butjesusdrankwine.com/community.  In this special episode, we got to guest-host Dr. Lee Warren's Spiritual Self-Brain Surgery podcast to discuss the first five of his 10 Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery—powerful principles that combine neuroscience and faith to help you overcome challenges and break free from the destructive patterns in your life, including alcohol use. We dive into the intersection of neuroscience and spirituality, sharing how you can take charge of your thoughts, emotions, and actions to create lasting transformation. Using Dr. Lee's commandments as a guide, we explore how you can change your brain by changing your mind. Commandments 1-5: 1️⃣ I Must Relentlessly Refuse to Participate in My Own Demise You're either building your brain—or breaking it. Every thought, feeling, belief, and action either propels you forward or holds you hostage. This commandment emphasizes the choice to embrace life with each decision, fostering a mindset of resilience and growth. 2️⃣ I Must Believe That Feelings Are Not Facts; They Are Chemical Events in My Brain Emotions are signals, not truths. They're data, not destiny. We discuss how to honor your feelings without being controlled by them, and how to act on what's true, even when your emotions are telling you something different. 3️⃣ I Must Believe That Most of My Automatic Thoughts Are Untrue Your brain's default mode is not designed for joy or truth; it's built for survival. This means that many of your automatic thoughts are unreliable. We dive into how to challenge these thoughts and train your brain to align with your true mind—moving from survival mode to thriving. 4️⃣ I Must Believe That My Mind Is in Charge of My Brain This is a game-changer. You're not a victim of your neurochemistry. You can actually change it. We explore how taking control of your mind allows you to access hope, healing, and peace. Mind-over-brain is key to lasting transformation. 5️⃣ I Must Believe That Self–Brain Surgery Is Not a Metaphor; It is the Mechanism of Transforming My Life Self-brain surgery is real—it's not just a metaphor. Your thoughts are like a scalpel that can cut out toxic patterns and implant healthier ones. This principle is grounded in neuroplasticity and aligns with biblical renewal (Romans 12:2). We share how this concept works in both science and Scripture. Key Takeaways: How to stop sabotaging your own growth and choose life with every thought and action Why emotions are signals, not truths, and how to process them without letting them control you The importance of challenging automatic thoughts and rewiring your brain for joy and truth Understanding mind-over-brain control and its impact on your life The power of self-brain surgery and how it leads to true transformation Scripture Reference: Romans 12:2 – "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." We hope this episode inspires you to take charge of your thoughts and actions, and ultimately, to live a life free from the destructive patterns that hold you back. You may be walking through a really difficult time or situation. But it is through our struggles—and always—that we need more Jesus. More hope in his goodness. More hope in him. And when we choose hope, we will find more patience. And when we find more patience, we will find so many more reasons to praise, and so much more joy…in him. - Keri Eichberger In this episode of Your Daily Prayer, Keri Eichberger opens up about battling chronic back pain and the temptation to slip into a pit of impatience and self-pity. She shares a powerful realization from Romans 8:25 and a timely reminder: we don’t need quick solutions—we need more of Jesus. Listeners will be encouraged to shift their focus from complaints to Christ, discovering the joy and peace that come from choosing hope in Him, especially during seasons of waiting or suffering. Topics covered: Navigating suffering with spiritual patience Why complaining robs us of joy Learning to wait with hope and composure (Romans 8:25) Choosing Jesus over quick fixes Practical encouragement for hard seasons Scripture Reference Romans 8:25 (NIV) “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

What if obedience isn't weakness, but a superpower? In this episode of The Manly Catholic, we dive into Saint Joseph's title "Joseph Most Obedient" during our Lenten series. For Catholic men, this episode reframes obedience as strength, not submission, challenging us to align our will with God's. Hit play to explore how Joseph's unwavering trust can transform your vocation—whether husband, father, priest, or discerner.Joseph was a man of action, leading his family through danger, returning to Nazareth on God's word. No whining, no negotiating—just action. Obedience wasn't a one-off for Joseph; it was his daily yes to God. I ask you: Are you obedient to your calling? Husbands, to your wives? Fathers, to your kids? Priests, to your flock? If not, we're failing. This isn't about being a doormat—it's about choosing God over ego, passions, or unjust laws.Your challenge today, men: sit with God for two minutes. Ask through Joseph's intercession, “Lord, how can I be obedient to my vocation—or discern it—today?” Listen, act, start now. Lent's our shot to grow into men like Joseph. Sounds like it's weakness... But for Joseph, it's the opposite. It's actually his superpower.""Every time God speaks, Joseph moves... He didn't hesitate. He didn't whine about it... He just said yes. That is strength, man.""We are going to be obedient to something in this life. What is it going to be? Are you going to be obedient to God? ... God will never call you to do something contrary to his will."Say yes to God's call without delay. Joseph didn't stall when God spoke—he acted. Next time you feel that nudge—forgive, step up, ditch a habit—don't negotiate. Pray, trust, and move. All are seeking righteousness and fall in one of two camps: They either seek it through faith or through works. In Romans 9:30-33 we learn that the sand of human righteousness cannot save the soul, but only faith on the rock of Jesus Christ, faith that God implants in the heart of man. Faith is not salvation, to be clear; it is the vehicle that gets you there. It is the only channel through which God’s blessings of new life may be received. So do you have faith that saves? Or are you resting on your works which can never make you righteous? Scripture Reference: Romans 9:30-33 Sermon: https://churchandfamilylife.com/sermons/674d4da37306b796a738d88c

How the Holy Spirit is Always Working

Too often, Christians view the Holy Spirit, narrowly, as the source to set them on fire for God and make them satisfied. Such a view shortchanges the Holy Spirit’s role. The truth is, the Spirit of God is working quietly in the background in every part of the believer’s life. In Romans 8, Paul gives five powerful ways the Spirit ministers to Christians. First, the Spirit makes us free from sin and death. Second, the Spirit changes the things we want to think about. Third, the Spirit puts to death the deeds of the body. Fourth, the Spirit bears witness to our adoption as sons. Fifth, the Spirit helps us in our suffering. And, sixth, the Spirit helps us in our weakness when we don’t know how to pray. What a blessing it is to have the Holy Spirit of God! Scripture Reference: Romans 8 Sermon: https://churchandfamilylife.com/sermons/670cb41fd443d6ac8378cf8b

I share a bit about dropping our daughter off at college for the first time, and wow, has it been a doozy season adjusting for me? Change is never fun! But it can be purposeful. Our time at her college reminded me how hopeful youth can be. It reminded me how, after living through different aspects of life, we can become cynical and even lose hope.
