Growing up a Graham, I'm used to living my life in the public eye. Negative comments or assumptions about me and my family don't really phase me, but a recent Instagram message did give me pause: “Your grandparents would be so disappointed in you.” Now, I didn't actually believe this was true, but the message did make me stop and think, what would my grandparents, Billy and Ruth Graham, think of me and how I've chosen to live my life? This week on Fearless I reflected on this question, sharing stories about the Ruth and Billy I knew and loved—not the public Billy Graham, but the man I sat with at the kitchen table. Because my grandparents never demanded perfection from their kids or grandkids, they didn't expect us to perform in order to reach a certain standard. Instead, they practiced what they preached from the pulpit: 100% truth and 100% grace. During the episode I share snapshots of my aunt Ruth's story, and my dad's story. Both these Graham children walked through hard seasons, times when they messed up and were afraid of embarrassing or disappointing their parents. But in those moments they were never met with a closed door, but instead with open arms of love. This is the legacy I want to leave with my own children. Not a legacy focused on what others may think or believe, but one built on truth, grace, and the opportunity to always come home, no matter how badly you've stumbled. This is what Jesus embodied for us—it's what my grandparents modeled—and it's exactly the legacy I want to carry forward.

Malachi 4 Tells Us God Takes Care of His Own and that Those Who Wait Upon Him and “fear my {God's} name” Will Not Be Disappointed MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Isaiah, in Isaiah 64:3,8, says that God is the awesome God who created everything: “When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence . . . But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”. In Isaiah 65:11-13, Isaiah expresses God's disappointment in being snubbed by His chosen people, the Jews. However, Isaiah expresses how pleased God is with being welcomed by the Gentiles {my servants}: “'But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune and fill cups of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.' There's an interesting, if not humorous, statement in the Bhāgavata about how there are only two kinds of people who are happy: there is the fool who is in ignorance and the person who has attained complete perfection. Everybody else in between feels 'a pinch.' In fact there is a verse Kṛṣṇa speaks (SB 11.20.27-28) about this interim stage where He says: jāta-śraddho mat-kathāsu nirviṇṇaḥ sarva-karmasu veda duḥkhātmakān kāmān parityāge 'py anīśvaraḥ tato bhajeta māṁ prītaḥ śraddhālur dṛḍha-niścayaḥ juṣamāṇaś ca tān kāmān duḥkhodarkāṁś ca garhyan He acknowledges that someone's faith has awakened—jāta-śraddha. Jāta means the faith has awakened in hearing and chanting, and they say this is the panacea. Then He also says they are aware that sense gratification leads to misery—veda duḥkhātmakān kāmān. But parityāge 'py anīśvaraḥ: He says they don't have the power to not engage in sense gratification. Īśvara means "supreme controller"; it also means the ability to do something. Parityāge means they can't give it up, even though they know that it's not sanguine. But then He goes on to say, tato bhajeta māṁ prītaḥ śraddhālur dṛḍha-niścayaḥ: You should continue on the path with and not be too disturbed because of the fact that you're not at a stage where you feel masterful. (And this isn't exactly your point yet, but I'm building a foundation for getting there.) At the end of the verse, He uses the word garhyan. Garhyan means you can be a little concerned but not overly so that you are not in the position yet because as the ācāryas explain that word in the verse: if you become overly disturbed by your own ineptitude, then you may give up the process. So Kṛṣṇa is encouraging and saying, "It's okay; you're in the medium stage.
