In this episode, we continue our deep dive into Dr. Lee Warren's 10 Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery, focusing on commandments 6 through 10. As freedom-from-alcohol coaches, we share how these powerful principles shape our approach to helping women break free from the overdrinking cycle. From prioritizing long-term well-being to understanding the transformative power of thoughts, we explore actionable steps—what we like to call Tiny Tinas—to help you take practical steps toward change. Throughout the conversation, we offer personal anecdotes, real-world applications, and insights on how to overcome the immediate discomfort that often comes with transformation. This episode is packed with advice for anyone looking to rewrite their story, not just in terms of addiction, but in breaking generational patterns, celebrating progress, and renewing your mind. Commandments 6-10: 6️⃣ I Must Love Tomorrow More Than I Hate How I Feel Right Now Hope is the key that pulls us forward. We talk about how focusing on the possibilities ahead can change your outlook on today's temporary discomfort, helping you take action toward a brighter future. 7️⃣ I Must Stop Making an Operation Out of Everything Life is hard, but not every challenge requires drastic measures. We discuss the importance of choosing humor, forgiveness, and simply moving forward—without making everything a major operation. 8️⃣ I Must Not Perpetuate—or Start—Harmful Generational Thought or Behavioral Issues in My Life or Family This is a game-changing commandment. It's all about breaking the cycle. You don't have to pass on trauma, shame, addiction, or fear. We explore how you can rewrite your family's story by making changes in your own life and actions. 9️⃣ I Must Believe That I'm Getting Better at What I'm Doing Growth is a fact, not a feeling. In this section, we dive into how consistency in doing the work—no matter how invisible it seems at first—leads to tangible growth. Trusting the process is key, even when progress feels slow.
Join the conversation in our community at https://butjesusdrankwine.com/community. In this special episode, we got to guest-host Dr. Lee Warren's Spiritual Self-Brain Surgery podcast to discuss the first five of his 10 Commandments of Self-Brain Surgery—powerful principles that combine neuroscience and faith to help you overcome challenges and break free from the destructive patterns in your life, including alcohol use. We dive into the intersection of neuroscience and spirituality, sharing how you can take charge of your thoughts, emotions, and actions to create lasting transformation. Using Dr. Lee's commandments as a guide, we explore how you can change your brain by changing your mind. Commandments 1-5: 1️⃣ I Must Relentlessly Refuse to Participate in My Own Demise You're either building your brain—or breaking it. Every thought, feeling, belief, and action either propels you forward or holds you hostage. This commandment emphasizes the choice to embrace life with each decision, fostering a mindset of resilience and growth. 2️⃣ I Must Believe That Feelings Are Not Facts; They Are Chemical Events in My Brain Emotions are signals, not truths. They're data, not destiny. We discuss how to honor your feelings without being controlled by them, and how to act on what's true, even when your emotions are telling you something different. 3️⃣ I Must Believe That Most of My Automatic Thoughts Are Untrue Your brain's default mode is not designed for joy or truth; it's built for survival. This means that many of your automatic thoughts are unreliable. We dive into how to challenge these thoughts and train your brain to align with your true mind—moving from survival mode to thriving. 4️⃣ I Must Believe That My Mind Is in Charge of My Brain This is a game-changer. You're not a victim of your neurochemistry. You can actually change it. We explore how taking control of your mind allows you to access hope, healing, and peace. Mind-over-brain is key to lasting transformation. 5️⃣ I Must Believe That Self–Brain Surgery Is Not a Metaphor; It is the Mechanism of Transforming My Life Self-brain surgery is real—it's not just a metaphor. Your thoughts are like a scalpel that can cut out toxic patterns and implant healthier ones. This principle is grounded in neuroplasticity and aligns with biblical renewal (Romans 12:2). We share how this concept works in both science and Scripture. Key Takeaways: How to stop sabotaging your own growth and choose life with every thought and action Why emotions are signals, not truths, and how to process them without letting them control you The importance of challenging automatic thoughts and rewiring your brain for joy and truth Understanding mind-over-brain control and its impact on your life The power of self-brain surgery and how it leads to true transformation Scripture Reference: Romans 12:2 – "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." We hope this episode inspires you to take charge of your thoughts and actions, and ultimately, to live a life free from the destructive patterns that hold you back. What do we say to someone who is walking through the unimaginable—the loss of a child, a devastating diagnosis, the fallout from a natural disaster? What happens when that tragedy enters our own lives? On today's episode of Fearless I had the honor of sitting down with Dr. Lee Warren—neurosurgeon, author, and Iraq war veteran—to talk about how to choose hope and find joy again, even in the face of unimaginable loss. Dr. Lee knows pain intimately. After battling through severe PTSD from his time serving as a surgeon in Iraq, he lost his son in a tragic act of violence. How did Dr. Lee and his family choose to move forward in faith despite every reason to give into doubt and turn away from God? Dr. Lee and I talk about the process of choosing hope, the science behind two things being true at the same time, and when (and if) joy can come back into our lives after we go through trauma. Despite everything he's walked through, Dr. Lee has found purpose in suffering, and we can too. My hope is that this conversation will serve as a reminder of God's unwavering presence in the midst of sorrow and evidence that healing is possible—even after the most profound losses.Purchase Dr. Lee's book, Hope Is The First Dose, wherever books are sold! The big lesson from magic that separates the great speakers from the amateurs. How his content and delivery have evolved over his speaking career and why. The distinction between different types of speakers, trainers and workshop facilitators How Lee tailors his keynotes for different audiences across different industries without reinventing the wheel every time. Some of the mistakes that people make when transitioning from free to paid gigs and how to avoid them. Lee's tips for building a strong paid speaking pipeline. How the landscape of paid public speaking changed since Lee started in the industry and how speakers can make sure they stay relevant going forward. In this episode of 'Spiritual Brain Surgery,' Dr. Lee Warren and his co-host Tata discuss the importance of maintaining faith during hard times, and a surprising lesson on how God loves us and how he can't stand it when we suffer because of sin from Judges 10:16. Set against the serene backdrop of a wintery Sunday afternoon by the North Platte River, the conversation delves into the Bible, highlighting lessons from the book of Judges and Ruth. They explore how the Israelites repeatedly turned to idols despite God's persistent guidance and how this reflects our modern struggles with faith and sin. The discussion underscores the need for self-examination, reliance on God, and the power of redemption through Jesus. The episode also includes shout-outs to listeners Lori and Rodney, sharing their challenges and seeking divine guidance amidst grief and loss. Dr. Warren wraps up by emphasizing the transformative power of changing one's mind to change one's life.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Spiritual Brain Surgery00:48 A Chilly Sunday Afternoon01:36 Listener Shoutout and Encouragement02:16 Discussing the Book of Ruth and Judges03:14 The Israelites' Rebellion and Idolatry07:13 Lessons from the Old Testament10:31 Understanding Sin and God's Nature12:35 God's Mercy and Human Weakness18:02 Living to Please God19:03 Understanding God's Nature19:31 The Role of Jesus as Our Redeemer21:19 The Power of Calling Out to God25:09 The Importance of Prayer and Surrender30:02 Dealing with Loss and Seeking Answers35:41 Final Reflections and EncouragementResources and Links:Our sponsor for this episode is TImeline: Visit timeline.com, and use the discount code leewarren for 10% off your first order of MitoPure! My book, 2021 ECPA Memoir/Biography of the Year, I've Seen the End of YouBe sure to check out my latest book, Hope Is the First Dose!Sign up for my weekly Self-Brain Surgery Newsletter here! Mitochondrial dysfunction as we age has been linked to muscle dysfunction, metabolism, overall energy levels, and resiliency. But what makes our mitochondria fail as we get older? It turns out to be related to a disruption in a process called mitophagy, the natural repair and recycling process that normally rebuilds and recreates healthy mitochondria to replace damaged ones. When mitophagy fails, mitochondria lose efficiency and cannot do their jobs, and we have a power failure. The compound that's key to keeping mitophagy happening normally is called Urolithin-A, and that compound is lacking in most of us because of a change over time in our gut microbiota. In this episode, Dr. Lee Warren tackles the challenges of maintaining positive habits during the holiday season, a time often filled with stress and triggers. Drawing from his upcoming book, The Self-Brain Surgery Handbook, he introduces two innovative self-brain surgery techniques: the "Five-Minute Freeze" and "Flash Forward to Flashback." These methods are designed to help listeners resist reverting to harmful habits by fostering self-awareness, encouraging reflection, and leveraging neuroplasticity to reinforce healthier behaviors. Dr. Warren also weaves in spiritual insights and scripture to empower individuals in their journey toward resilience and transformation. Chapters 0:16 Holiday Habits and Self-Brain Surgery 2:23 Temptations and Triggers 4:40 Introducing the Five-Minute Freeze 7:33 The Neuroscience of Habits 12:00 Understanding Temptation 14:08 Transforming Your Mind 15:35 Building Discipline with the Five-Minute Freeze 22:55 Exposing Underlying Behaviors 26:37 Flash Forward to Flashback 30:34 Change Your Mind, Change Your Life Key Takeaways The Five-Minute Freeze Pause before acting on a habit to consider its immediate and long-term consequences (5 minutes, 5 days, 5 years). Helps engage the rational part of the brain, breaking the cycle of impulsive, limbic-driven responses. Flash Forward to Flashback Reflect on past instances of indulging in habits to recall negative consequences. Use these memories to inform present decisions and visualize a better future. Neuroplasticity in Action Repeated thoughts and actions create neural pathways that make behaviors automatic. Breaking old habits and forming new ones require intentional effort to "rewire" the brain. Spiritual Foundations Scripture highlights the importance of transforming the mind to change behaviors (Romans 12:2). God provides opportunities to resist temptation, offering hope for lasting change. Quotes from the Episode "Thoughts become things. If you want to change your life, start with your thinking." "You don't rise to the occasion; you fall to the level of your preparation." "Love tomorrow more than you hate how you feel right now."
