Becoming Untriggerable: A Journey to Emotional Freedom A trigger is defined as an external or internal event that evokes a strong emotional response, often negative, such as anger, sadness, or anxiety. Tonya Leigh shares her personal experience of being triggered during her father's celebration of life, where she felt intense anger due to a perceived boundary violation. This moment of rage was not just an isolated incident; it reflected deeper feelings and unresolved issues within her. Tanya encourages listeners to view triggers as invitations to look within themselves. Instead of reacting impulsively, we can take a moment to pause and reflect on why we are feeling a certain way. This self-exploration can lead to profound insights about our past experiences, beliefs, and values. Tune in for insights on managing emotions and fostering a peaceful mindset. Doing Divorce Different A Podcast Guide to Doing Divorce Differently
True peace doesn't come from circumstances—it comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. You can have peace in the middle of chaos when your heart and mind are anchored in Him. Great message from Dr. Charles Stanley. Jaggy and I thank you for tuning in and SHARING!
It's clear people are looking for ways to protect their peace. And if the comments, DMs, and emails are any indication, they're also looking for permission to do so.That's exactly why this conversation with Katrina Jones on DEI After 5 hit such a nerve. It's one of our most-watched episodes, and it makes sense—this is the stuff so many of us have been trying to name. That quiet unraveling you feel when you're committed to the work, but the workplace doesn't care. That guilt for wanting to step back when the weight of everything is on your shoulders. That slow erosion of your well-being in places that claim to value you but rarely show it.Katrina and I talked candidly about the emotional toll of toxic work environments—especially for those of us doing work that is rooted in justice, inclusion, or lived experience. There's a unique pain that comes with trying to create change in systems that don't want to be changed. But here's what we explored that I think we all need to hear:
3 Values to Unlearn that Will Enable You to Protect Your Peace | Embrace Personal Growth and HealingSometimes it is the values that we carry, unchecked and unquestioned, that serve as the greatest deterrent in our search for peace. The adage is true, though we do not have the ability to exact control on others, we will always be able to control ourselves. Focusing on managing the key elements in our life to enable a better sense of alignment, clarity, and much needed peace. If you are focused on healing and growth, then learning to protect your peace is a necessity, not a luxury.Do you have any questions? Send us a textThe world often feels fundamentally unsafe for those of us living with PTSD, even before we turn on the news. When global events like military conflicts, mass shootings, and political turmoil dominate headlines, our already sensitive nervous systems go into overdrive, confirming what trauma has already taught us – that danger lurks everywhere.Yet finding peace isn't about pretending the world is safe when it isn't. Rather, it's about creating micro-sanctuaries where your nervous system can reset amid chaos. This episode offers practical tools for navigating global uncertainty while protecting your mental health. We explore vagus nerve regulation techniques like the 4-4-4 breathing method (four seconds inhale, four seconds hold, four seconds exhale) and gentle self-massage along the vagal pathway. The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise engages your senses and activates the logical part of your brain, pulling you away from emotional flooding during anxiety spikes.Connection proves essential despite our tendency to isolate when triggered. Having trusted people who understand your specific needs without judgment provides crucial safety. Rather than consuming news directly, consider having these trusted individuals filter important information for you. Alternatives like faith-based news summaries can provide necessary awareness without the cortisol-inducing presentation of mainstream media. Remember, we weren't designed to bear the emotional weight of global suffering – only to care well for our immediate circles of influence.Throughout your healing journey, hold tight to this truth: you aren't broken – you're healing. You aren't weak – you're surviving. The path to peace comes through small, intentional choices: one boundary, one breath, one moment of presence at a time. As Psalm 91 reminds us, even when thousands fall around us, we can find refuge. You are seen, known, heard, loved, and deeply valued, both by the God of the universe and by those who understand the unique challenges of living with trauma in an uncertain world. You ARE:SEEN KNOWN HEARD LOVED VALUED

Protect your peace at all times. Set boundaries with people and don't be afraid to do it. Protecting your peace also involves being mindful of where you spend your energy. It's about identifying what activities, people, or situations deplete your energy and taking steps to limit or eliminate them.
But At Least You Got A Free Boob Job. Are you surprised that people said this to me during my cancer journey? I was so surprised and, quite honestly, saddened. My first reaction was, 'We can't be friends anymore,' but what about the family members who said that to me?! I had to learn to have GRACE for people. People say dumb things in an attempt to make you laugh or because of their anxiety. Grace is challenging, but it also helps you manage your expectations of others, which can lead to deeper, more meaningful relationships. I was moved by today's episode with Michelle Patidar, nutrition and recovery coach and cancer survivor. She lost half her body weight and all her hair during chemo and radiation. She said she was a shell of her former self, and yet, she ended up trying to make her loved ones "feel better during HER journey" by encouraging them. That's a burden none of us were meant to bear. We also discussed our daily habits. Michelle believes that cancer prevention or recovery is a daily choice made BY YOU. We need to ask ourselves throughout the day, how does this habit serve me? When the days get longer and the invitations stack up, it's easy to overextend yourself and forget that “no” can be one of the most generous, self-honoring things you can say.In this final episode of our summer mini-series, Elizabeth talks about boundaries - especially how to hold them in a heart-centered, grounded way during the expansive, often overwhelming season of summer. Elizabeth also offers a short reflective practice to identify where you might need a boundary and what it would feel like to honor it. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or simply someone feeling pulled in too many directions, this episode offers real talk and real tools to help you stay rooted - without guilt.Key TakeawaysA gentle mindset reframe: Boundaries aren't rejection, they're directionThe 3 R's of Rebuilding Rhythm: Remember, Reclaim, and ResetEach “no” is also a powerful “yes” to rest, sanity, and self-trust.
