Acclaimed cinematographer Checco Varese, ASC’s recently released feature It: Chapter Two is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.    It: Chapter Two, (from Warner Brothers and New Line) hits theaters Sep. 6. It is the eagerly-awaited sequel to It – director Andy Muschietti’s blockbuster adaptation of author Stephen King’s classic horror masterpiece by the same name. Within hours of its debut, It: Chapter Two’s trailer, alone, generated millions of views and sent fans and social media into a frenzy. Stephen King himself took to Twitter to praise the film.   The saga’s latest chapter finds the self-proclaimed ‘Losers’ Club’ returning to their hometown of Derry, Maine after 27 years to defeat Pennywise – the shape-shifting, dancing demonic clown portrayed in terrifying fashion by Bill Skarsgård. All grown up and ready for serious battle, the all-star cast also features Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Isaiah Mustafa, and Bill Hader.     For Muschietti, who stepped back into the director’s role, tapping veteran cinematographer Checco Varese to shoot the sequel was a natural choice. “Checco and I go back a long time. We made commercials together a decade ago in Spain, as well as a little short film, and a pilot, too. Our communication has always been great, not only because of the shorthand coming from our cultural background and language, (I was born and raised in Argentina, while he is Peruvian but lived in Buenos Aires for years) but also because we speak a similar visual language. Just a few words were enough to express my vision of this film to him, and immediately an effervescent creative dialogue began. For a cinematographer, working with a director who is very visual can be a blessing or a curse. That’s why Checco is such a trooper. His patience is monumental, and his support unconditional,” compliments the director.    He also cites Varese’s background as a war camera person as a huge asset, “That might explain his versatility and ability to adapt to the circumstances. In production, you have to change horses many times as you’re crossing the river, and when that happens, you want someone like Checco on your side, always supportive, loyal, and ready to share his visual creativity.”   In addition to his collaborations with Muschietti, Varese has also partnered on several features with director Patricia Riggen including, Miracles From Heaven, Under the Same Moon, and the The 33, which starred Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche and is based on the real-life story of 33 miners trapped in a Chilean mine.    Varese also enjoys a reputation for being the unofficial ‘pilot guy,’ lensing more than two dozen season starters – nineteen of which have been picked up for series including, True Blood; The Strain; The Returned; The Fosters; Colony; and The Defenders. He once again partnered with Riggen for the CBS’s pilot, Surveillance. His other credits include several episode of the first season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan for Amazon, and the sci-fi thriller Replicas featuring Keanu Reeves and Thomas Middleditch.

"You'll float!" Does Your Mother Know you're listening? Well, we're glad that you decided to Take a Chance on us this episode, you little Chiquititas. We don't Lay All Our Love on the 2008 smash hit "Mamma Mia!" Audiences lost and studios won as this movie made $615.7 million at the box office, but, as they say, The Winner Takes It All and the loser has to fall. A lot of people think this movie is Honey, Honey, but we think it's vinegar, vinegar. We thought this might be Our Last Summer after watching this drivel, but we were Super Troupers and powered through it without letting a single scene Slip Through Our Fingers. When All Is Said and Done, not even underrated Meryl Streep could keep us from thinking that this was the cinematic equivalent of Waterloo. Like most everyone else who pays attention to pop culture, Jake and Tom have been eagerly anticipating the release of the new version of Stephen King's "It".   Well...  at least Tom has.   For deeply personal reasons, Jake has been nervous about it for quite some time.  Y'see, for Jake, it represents a lotta childhood fears that he's still coming to grips with. For Tom, however, it represents a prime opportunity to bust his best friend's balls over said childhood fears. So listen in as your favorite drunken dorks meet up on the eve of the film's release to discuss what they're hoping for before they watch it, and continue listening through the break as they meet back up after having watched it to hear their thoughts on the final product. Did it meet their expectations?  Did it live up to their memories of the Made-For-Television cult favorite?  Did Jake make it through the screening without peeing himself?  All this, and more, can be found out by pressing "Play"!   Be sure to help Jake and Tom in their quest for world domination by rating them highly on iTunes, sharing their stuff on social media, and by telling your Android using friends to listen to hem by using the Amazing And FREE Couch Party App, available exclusively on the Google Play Store! Frank Soldato and Adam Grundy crack wise about IT, that creepy, didn't-it-do-well-at-the-box-office film about some crazy kids and a creepy Skarsgård (Bill, but Stellan is pretty shifty too!). Spoilers in this episode! But the crew examine what made it so good - and what potentially let it down in parts. Mainly glowing, but it makes sense. If you listen you'll find out, and you can then pass off this opinion like it's your own. Like QI, but for this one specific Stephen King film. They also look at what to expect in IT Chapter 2 - and who could play the grown ups of the Loser Club. Of course, in true Filmageddon fashion, there's even time for a game at the end, so make sure you keep listening. Look forward to our next podcast which will strictly be NO STEPHEN KING. We've done enough on you lad, off with you. If you're into getting PROPER SPOOKED then come to our Halloween/Horror-themed FILM QUIZ at The Prince Charles Cinema on Tuesday October 24th 2017. Tickets are available here and cheaper for members! There will be lots o' lots of prizes to be won - which we'll be announcing as soon as possible!
