LAST OF US CONVO STARTS AT 0:52:00Hi. Welcome back. Hope you've had a nice day so far. TONIGHT, The Last of Us wrapped up its second season and it appears to have divided an already divided fanbase, Mission: Impossible wrapped up its franchise but maybe it didn't, and apparently we've been pronouncing the Skarsgård name wrong this entire time. We're idiots. You're not idiots. Let's have some fun.

Brandon and Chanel are back to talk about a new show on Apple TV Murderbot. One of the Skarsgård's is back and it starts off with a bang. This show is seems to have an interesting take on what it means to be human set in a sci fi future state through the prism of a comedy. We've just powered through the premiere of Murderbot on Apple TV+, covering Episodes 1 (“FreeCommerce”) and 2 (“Eye Contact”). Adapted from Martha Wells' hit novellas, the show follows a socially anxious, soap-opera-obsessed cyborg—played by a Skarsgård (not IT)—who's stuck babysitting a team of well-meaning scientists. Naturally, giant alien centipedes, “accidental” malfunctions, and a few too many near-death mishaps prove these researchers are in way over their heads. If you like survival sci-fi like The Martian, the futuristic tech of The Expanse, or the fake soaps in Avenue 5, this might be your next watch. Tune in for our unsolicited thoughts.Welcome to Today's Episode!
How did Alexander Skarsgård prepare to play a security robot that starts to find free will in Apple TV+'s Murderbot (May 16)? “Well, I've spent 48 years being emotionally unavailable. That's a good start.” [laughs] Skarsgård plays the titular character Murderbot, which must hide its ability for free thought while tackling dangerous assignments for the humans it has been assigned to. Oh, and it binge watches a fictional soap opera. “I think Murderbot watches [The Rise and Fall of] Sanctuary Moon and other soap operas as a kind of anthropological study. It's a way to understand humans and humanity from a safe distance.” Part of the appeal of the story for Skarsgård was the genre itself. “There are no limitations. When you create a sci-fi show, you're not bound to the rules or restrictions here on Earth. You can let your creativity flow.” And while Skarsgård doesn't “foresee a romantic relationship,” there is one rather revealing full frontal scene that actually says quite a bit. “Murderbot is created for one purpose and one purpose only—security. So why give him genitals?” See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Dogman heads up Mark's review slate this week--an anarchic animation based on Captain Underpants creator Dav Pilkey's graphic novel series, where a lifesaving operation sees a police dog and his cop handler become one crime-busting half-canine hero. Plus, The Seed of the Sacred Fig—a courageous political drama about Iran's authoritarian government from exiled Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof. And last but not least, September 5--the tense newsroom drama starring Peter Sarsgaard, who is our guest this week... Peter sits down with Simon to discuss the Oscar-nominated drama, based on the true events of the 1972 Munich massacre, the first act of terrorism to be broadcast live on television. During the Munich Olympics of that year, the Palestinian militant group Black September infiltrated the athletes village, killing two Israeli athletes and taking nine more hostage. Taking place entirely within the newsroom, the film follows the efforts of the ABC sports broadcasting team, led by producer Roone Arledge (Sarsgaard), to cover the story as it unfolds in real time—and navigate the many practical and moral issues this entails. Sarsgaard tells Simon all about the unique production—plus working with his wife Maggie Gyllenhaal on The Bride!, and why he's given up correcting people when they think he's a Skarsgård. Episode 181 – it's a graveyard variety show as the crew discusses the sordid careers of the Skarsgård family, Nosferatu (2024) and Count Orlok being a grower and not, in fact, a shower. We debate who's the the most powerful Skarsgård, talk about Taylor Sheridan and shows for men(tm), Special OPS: Lioness, Michael Fassbender and The Agency, having to turn off What Remains because it was too Swedish and sad and watching the Jerry Springer documentary on Netflix instead.
Tony, Johanna, and Crystal get together to talk about the latest remake of Nosferatu. This time it's directed by Robert Eggers and stars Bill bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok. There was a ton of hype around this film and it seems to be getting a lot of praise. Did we love it? Watch and find out!

Brace for impact because it's another JETBAG: Emergency Landing episode! And it's our biggest metal bird in the sky yet, Flightplan (2005), starring Jodie Foster has her climbing all around the Elgin E-474 which, while made up, is styled on these massively huge jumbojets with spiral staircases, lush first class and all sorts of hidden compartments! Flying at 40,000 feet in a state-of-the art aircraft that she helped design, Kyle Pratt's 6-year-old daughter Julia vanishes without a trace. Or did she? No one on the plane believes Julia was ever onboard. And now Kyle, desperate and alone, can only count on her own wits to unravel the mystery and save her daughter. (Sourced from Letterboxd) Will Jodie and Peter Sarsgaard (NOT from the Skarsgård as James learned this episode) have crackling chemistry? Will Kyle find her daughter Julia? Will Sean Bean die or turn out to be bad? Why didn't we do our research and reference Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes in this episode which this takes inspiration from? All this and more in another rip roaring Jetbag ep. And be sure to listen to Silver Fox Office with L.C. and Mike here or wherever podcasts are found!

Max has officially announced that Bill Skarsgård will reprise his iconic role as Pennywise the Clown in the upcoming It prequel series, "Welcome to Derry." Skarsgård, who first terrified audiences in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's It and its 2019 sequel, It Chapter Two, is also set to serve as an executive producer on the series. Reuniting with Skarsgård are Andy Muschietti, the director of both It films, along with producer Barbara Muschietti and co-producer Jason Fuchs. This collaboration promises to deliver a chilling expansion of the It universe, with big scares tailored for the small screen. Skarsgård's return to the role comes after he confirmed in March last year that he was "not involved" with the prequel. However, it seems the allure of Pennywise was too strong to resist, and he has since signed on to bring the flame-haired clown back to life. Although the series has been in development since 2022, details remain scarce. Even the working title, "Welcome to Derry," is subject to change.

Plagued by injuries sustained during fight training, a harsh mid-pandemic production, and a late withdrawal of Netflix distribution, Patel's first foray behind the camera required a resiliency worthy of his action hero protagonist, but is the film worthy of the blood, sweat and tears that went into it? You know that thing, when you're getting married on the remote Mediterranean island you may or may not have grown up on and you invite three of your mom's former lovers on the off chance one of them will be your biological father so he can walk you down the aisle, and it's all set to the musical stylings of Scandinavian super group Abba? We watched Mamma Mia! (2008) with our friend Jorge Molina and we have no choice but to Stan our Mamma Meryl. This marks our FIFTH Meryl movie and boy did we pick a doozy. First off we get that some people just don't have the joy in their heart required to love a musical but this movie is just plain fun. Go into understanding you're getting 90 minutes of high camp, and let it wash over you like the briny waters of a Grecian beach. Adapted from the hit West End and Broadway musical, this movie has all the hallmarks of a queer hit: Meryl Streep singing her heart out, multiple dance breaks to disco music, a scene stealing Christine Baranski and arguably the hottest Skarsgård of them all - papa Stellan. We can forgive wonky timelines and questionable parenting techniques when the visuals scenery is this picturesque and the bops are flowing like ouzo. We'd give our left… arm to live rent free on a Greek island and fix up a dilapidated villa. It's our Under the Tuscan Sun fantasy! This movie musical went up as counter programming to the Dark Knight, and it still managed to make a mount Olympus size pile of cash. We talk about the absolutely bananas sequel (CHER!) that's probably even better than its predecessor, the lasting legacy this potato chip of a musical has had on queer culture and our teeny gay brains. Minute Thirty-Seven: From Erik Telling His Assistants Where They Can Put It to Coulson Telling Steve About His Vintage SetJay Shepard from MCULocationScout.com and RetroZap.com joins us in this episode! In the thirty-seventh minute of The Avengers...Following our last minute's extended scene, we already have another one. We're in Loki's underground lab and there is more between Erik Selvig and Clint Barton, between Erik Selvig and Loki, and between Clint Barton and Loki. It all feels awkward, though. While there are some interesting points brought up in this extended scene – like Barton talking about why he might not have killed Fury and more about Selvig's connection to the Tesseract – it all plays awkwardly. We definitely prefer the version as it exists in the film, though this one is an interesting exploration of these characters. The scene plays a bit strangely anyway. They have an awful lot of people they've found in just a few days and seem to have accomplished an incredible amount of work on everything. Plus, we have the odd exit of the scene with a request for an eyeball. Just what is Clint up to? That, of course, brings us back to the bridge of the Helicarrier where we get a bit of the conversation about trading cards between Steve and Phil. It's pretty cute. All in all, there's certainly no shortage of content to discuss in this minute! Cleopatra Coleman's already accomplished quite a bit in film and television, but 2023 is looking to be an especially big year for the soaring star.First she starred opposite Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgård in Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool, a film about a couple who learn about an especially twisted law in the fictional seaside country of Li Tolqa. After being sentenced to death for hitting and killing a local man while driving back to their resort, Skarsgård's James learns there's a way out — but only for the wealthy. For a hefty price, James can pay to be cloned and have that duplicate executed in his place.Soon after Infinity Pool arrived on January 27th, A Lot of Nothing made its way into theaters. In that one, Coleman stars opposite Y'lan Noel as Vanessa and James, a couple who opt to take matters into their own hands when they find out their neighbor is the LAPD officer responsible for the latest instance of an officer killing an unarmed victim.Next up on Coleman's 2023 schedule? Zack Snyder's new movie — the highly anticipated epic space opera Rebel Moon due out on Netflix on December 22nd.In celebration of a year packed with highly unique films, stellar collaborators, and loads of significant promise for the future, Coleman joined me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to explain how she went from making short films with her father to working with renowned forces in Hollywood like Snyder, Cronenberg, Goth, Noel, Kaitlyn Dever, and many more. As our ninth season of Baconsale begins, we realize very quickly that it's a good thing we're pop culture podcasters and not math teachers. We're looking back at the movies we watched this past year and ranking our five least favorite films, followed by our five favorites. Joel is going after cult classics this time, and it's his own fault he chose the truly rotten ones. Kent keeps his choices to limited to movies released in 2022, and manages to find a few golden hipster nuggets amidst the cape flicks and wasteland that was last year in cinema. And Zack is there to judge each of our picks along the way. Press play to decide which Skarsgård is the best Skarsgård.
