In this episode, host Giles Alderson (The Dare) sits down with acclaimed director Corin Hardy for an in-depth conversation about craft, career trajectory, and working within the horror genre. Corin Hardy is an award-winning filmmaker, illustrator, sculptor, and writer known for a striking visual style that blends the macabre with the epic and the beautiful. He went on to direct acclaimed music videos for major artists, before making his feature debut with The Hallow, which premiered at Sundance and won multiple international awards. He later directed the global horror hit The Nun, part of The Conjuring Universe, and most recently completed his latest feature Whistle. In this episode, we discuss: Corin's early creative upbringing and DIY beginnings in practical FX Transitioning from shorts and music videos into feature filmmaking The making and impact of his debut feature The Hallow How he landed the directing role on The Nun Working within major studio franchises vs independent filmmaking His newest feature Whistle and what audiences can expect Crafting visual storytelling through storyboarding ...and so much more! Welcome back to The Filmmakers Podcast!Filmmakers, today is a massive double-header. We are taking a deep dive into the survival horror sensation that everyone is talking about: Send Help.In the first half, we are joined by the architectural minds behind the film. First, he is a man who needs no introduction — the architect of modern horror and the superhero blockbuster. From the cabin in the woods of Evil Dead to the original Spider-Man trilogy and the madness of Doctor Strange, please welcome the legendary Sam Raimi! He is joined by his powerhouse producing partner and the President of Raimi Productions, Zainab Azizi. Zainab has been the driving force behind a string of recent hits, including the high-concept thriller 65, the Netflix hit Don't Move, and the upcoming Locked. Together, they break down how they navigated a grueling 11-week shoot in Australia and Thailand to bring this visceral story to life. Then, in part two, we sit down with the film's co-lead. He's an actor who has evolved from a YA icon in The Maze Runner into one of the most versatile performers working today — shining in everything from Love and Monsters to playing Dan Aykroyd in Saturday Night and his award-winning turn in Twinless. He is here to talk about playing the boss-from-hell turned helpless survivor: Dylan O'Brien!Grab your notebooks... let's welcome Sam Raimi, Zainab Azizi, and Dylan O'Brien! A Weekend of Taco Frustrations, Family Birthdays, and Grammy OpinionsWhy is it so hard to just swap one taco for another?Jeff's weekend started with a frustrating Friday night at a Mexican restaurant where the server refused to let them substitute a fish taco into their chorizo and steak trio selection. (Seriously, how hard can it be?) The weekend that followed was packed with celebrations: birthday gatherings for both Mike at Tees and Taps and Marie at Jen's, complete with virtual golf, endless food, and cake. On Sunday, Jeff's family celebrated multiple birthdays while welcoming their mother back from a trip.Sam also caught the Grammys. Bruno Mars's opening performance stood out, though they felt uncomfortable with how some aging legends were presented on stage. The Post Malone and Slash tribute to Ozzy Osbourne was a highlight, but the multi-artist tribute segment felt confusing and overly crowded. The week wrapped with discussions about Ryan Murphy's new FX series "Beauty" and some surprisingly delicious chicken wing soup.Ready for more chaotic weekends and strong opinions? Give this episode a listen.
It was April 2021, and we had been let out for a day during lockdown and had behaved very poorly, there was a furious call from a certain Brian from Stockton-on-Tees, and we got some very bad news about hair.
We were supposed to be rocking an interview this week, but real life happened. Luckily, there is a world of professional wrestling to be had. So we are checking out Pro Wrestling Xtreme Mania out of India and their YouTube show, Ground Zero. Recorded live at the NTL Summit in Miami, this episode features Jayson McQuown, Director of Sales at Fala, a cloud hosting provider built to compete with Amazon Web Services by offering governance and security “out of the box.” Jayson breaks down why knowing where your data physically lives matters—especially for law firms using AI—and how weak security can create serious risk around confidentiality and attorney-client privilege. He also introduces RedPill.ai, a “confidential AI” alternative designed to help professionals use automation without leaking sensitive data back to model providers. The conversation dives into real-world legal use cases (like reviewing massive discovery fast), why many AI vendors can't clearly explain their base models, and how trusted execution environments (TEEs) are changing what secure cloud and AI can look like for legal, healthcare, and other privacy-heavy industries.
In this special episode, we go behind the scenes of the 6-time BAFTA-nominated film I Swear (2026) with the filmmaking team! In Part 1, Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir sit down with producers Piers Tempest (The Wife, William Tell) and Georgia Bayliff (Paradise Highway) from Tempo Productions. They discuss the reality of financing independent British drama in 2026, how they packaged a film about Tourette's syndrome as a crowd-pleasing theatrical event, and the role of a producer during a busy awards season. In Part 2, Giles and Dom are joined by writer/director Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee, Everybody's Fine). Kirk reveals why he returned to his indie roots for this passion project, the challenge of directing Robert Aramayo's transformative performance (nominated for Best Actor), and how he raised finance and balanced humor with the gritty reality of the true story. A new congressional spending bill could offer a lifeline to reauthorize the Technology Modernization Fund, which expired last month and froze nearly $200 million in unused funds. Congressional appropriators released the final slew of fiscal 2026 spending bills Tuesday, allocating more than $1 trillion to federal agencies and extending various laws or programs. Among the extensions is the reauthorization of the TMF through FY2026, or Sept. 30. It comes just over a month after authorization of the innovation funding vehicle expired Dec. 12. TMF was created in 2017 to fund technology projects across the government, but the bill that made it also set an expiration date that only Congress can extend. Lawmakers failed to move forward with standalone legislation to reauthorize the fund last month, and efforts to include it in larger spending packages also fell flat. Trade groups and IT industry experts were disappointed at the time, telling FedScoop in previous interviews that the expiration was not representative of the issue's typical bipartisan support. Some pinned the blame on procedural hurdles in Congress, including the 43-day-long government shutdown that pushed various nonfunding priorities toward the end of the year. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced bills in the last three Congresses to reauthorize TMF beyond 2025, but they did not make it out of the Senate, where they have at times faced pushback from congressional appropriators. Members of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency embedded in the Social Security Administration potentially exposed personally identifiable information via a third-party server, the Department of Justice said in a court filing that also revealed coordination between DOGE and an advocacy group seeking “evidence of voter fraud.” A lawsuit filed last February by the AFL-CIO and other labor groups against the SSA sought to cut off DOGE's access to sensitive data housed in agency systems. In March, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland issued a temporary restraining order to limit that access. But after an SSA records review of the agency's “former DOGE Team for audit and litigation purposes,” the DOJ said in a filing dated Friday that “communications, use of data, and other actions” were found to be “potentially outside of SSA policy and/or noncompliant” with the court's order. One of those instances involved DOGE's sharing of data via a third-party Cloudflare server — a system that is “not approved for storing SSA data and when used in this manner is outside SSA's security protocols,” the DOJ wrote. Legendary writer-director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, First Reformed) joins Giles Alderson & Dom Lenoir to discuss his powerful new film, Oh, Canada. In this exclusive masterclass, Paul reveals how he shot the complex, multi-timeline drama in just 17 days and why he reunited with Richard Gere 45 years after American Gigolo. We dive deep into his screenwriting process, talking Taxi Driver, re-writing, the reherasal process and directing actors. Why he reads scenes in reverse. PLUS adapting the late Russell Banks' novel, and his unique approach to 'rewriting the film' in the edit. Paul also opens up about working with Jacob Elordi, the evolution of his 'Man in a Room' films, and why he believes filmmakers must constantly reinvent their visual language. A must-listen for anyone interested in the craft of cinema from one of its greatest living rebels. Oh, Canada , Based on the novel Foregone by Russell Banks. It follows Leonard Fife (Richard Gere), a famous leftist documentary filmmaker who fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft. Now dying of cancer, he agrees to a final interview with his former students (Michael Imperioli) to confess the "truth" of his life—a truth his wife (Uma Thurman) might not be ready to hear, is out now. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Daniel Bar, co-founder of Space Computer, a satellite-based secure compute protocol that creates a "root of trust in space" using tamper-resistant hardware for cryptographic applications. The conversation explores the fascinating intersection of space technology, blockchain infrastructure, and trusted execution environments (TEEs), touching on everything from cosmic radiation-powered random number generators to the future of space-based data centers and Daniel's journey from quantum computing research to building what they envision as the next evolution beyond Ethereum's "world computer" concept. For more information about Space Computer, visit spacecomputer.io, and check out their new podcast "Frontier Pod" on the Space Computer YouTube channel.Timestamps00:00 Introduction to Space Computer02:45 Understanding Layer 1 and Layer 2 in Space Computing06:04 Trusted Execution Environments in Space08:45 The Evolution of Trusted Execution Environments11:59 The Role of Blockchain in Space Computing14:54 Incentivizing Satellite Deployment17:48 The Future of Space Computing and Its Applications20:58 Radiation Hardening and Space Environment Challenges23:45 Kardashev Civilizations and the Future of Energy26:34 Quantum Computing and Its Implications29:49 The Intersection of Quantum and Crypto32:26 The Future of Space Computer and Its VisionKey Insights1. Space-based data centers solve the physical security problem for Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). While TEEs provide secure compute through physical isolation, they remain vulnerable to attacks requiring physical access - like electron microscope forensics to extract secrets from chips. By placing TEEs in space, these attack vectors become practically impossible, creating the highest possible security guarantees for cryptographic applications.2. The space computer architecture uses a hybrid layer approach with space-based settlement and earth-based compute. The layer 1 blockchain operates in space as a settlement layer and smart contract platform, while layer 2 solutions on earth provide high-performance compute. This design leverages space's security advantages while compensating for the bandwidth and compute constraints of orbital infrastructure through terrestrial augmentation.3. True randomness generation becomes possible through cosmic radiation harvesting. Unlike pseudo-random number generators used in most blockchain applications today, space-based systems can harvest cosmic radiation as a genuinely stochastic process. This provides pure randomness critical for cryptographic applications like block producer selection, eliminating the predictability issues that compromise security in earth-based random number generation.4. Space compute migration is inevitable as humanity advances toward Kardashev Type 1 civilization. The progression toward planetary-scale energy control requires space-based infrastructure including solar collection, orbital cities, and distributed compute networks. This technological evolution makes space-based data centers not just viable but necessary for supporting the scale of computation required for advanced civilization development.5. The optimal use case for space compute is high-security applications rather than general data processing. While space-based data centers face significant constraints including 40kg of peripheral infrastructure per kg of compute, maintenance impossibility, and 5-year operational lifespans, these limitations become acceptable when the application requires maximum security guarantees that only space-based isolation can provide.6. Space computer will evolve from centralized early-stage operation to a decentralized satellite constellation. Similar to early Ethereum's foundation-operated nodes, space computer currently runs trusted operations but aims to enable public participation through satellite ownership stakes. Future participants could fractionally own satellites providing secure compute services, creating economic incentives similar to Bitcoin mining pools or Ethereum staking.7. Blockchain represents a unique compute platform that meshes hardware, software, and free market activity. Unlike traditional computers with discrete inputs and outputs, blockchain creates an organism where market participants provide inputs through trading, lending, and other economic activities, while the distributed network processes and returns value through the same market mechanisms, creating a cyborg-like integration of technology and economics.
