Filmen er instrueret af Joachim Trier (Verdens værste menneske, Oslo, 31. august) og har blandt andet Renate Reinsve (Verdens værste menneske, A Different Man), Stellan Skarsgård (Dune, Good Will Hunting), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sjit Happens, A Beautiful Life) og Elle Fanning (The Great, Maleficent) på rollelisten.
Josh and Jade are back for Episode 204 of Our Taste is Trash, diving into the film Sentimental ValueDirected by Joachim Trier and written with Eskil Vogt, the film stars Stellan Skarsgård alongside Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. It centers on a family navigating grief, unresolved trauma, and the emotional fallout that lingers across generations. This week, the hosts unpack the film's themes of generational trauma and emotional inheritance, spotlight Skarsgård's performance, and debate whether the movie hits hard or just drags on a bit too long. Is Sentimental Value quietly powerful or just quietly exhausting? Tune in and find out.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2011 Review is on the table this week, and the boys are diving headfirst into David Fincher's icy, brutal, and deeply unsettling thriller. What started as scepticism about the need for an English-language remake quickly turns into appreciation, because this is one dark ride that absolutely earns its place.Whitey, Gow, and Dan break down the 2011 adaptation of Stieg Larsson's global phenomenon, unpacking the mystery of Harriet Vanger, the twisted history of one of cinema's worst families, and the unforgettable pairing of Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander. From the jump, the lads admit they didn't think this remake was necessary… but by the end, they're more than happy it exists. The episode kicks off in classic Born to Watch fashion with plenty of nonsense, a bit of self-reflection about who talks the most, and a few war stories thrown in for good measure. But once they settle in, the focus shifts to Fincher's signature style, the film's haunting tone, and why Scandinavian crime stories just hit differently. There's a big discussion around rewatchability, with Whitey firmly in the "this is a sneaky background classic" camp, while Gow sits more in one-watch territory due to the film's heavy subject matter. Dan lands somewhere in the middle, crediting Whitey for originally putting him onto the film and admitting it's grown on him over time. The boys also dive into the casting, with Daniel Craig delivering a more grounded, vulnerable performance compared to his Bond persona, and Rooney Mara absolutely owning the role of Lisbeth Salander. There's plenty of chat about who else could've played the role, including Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, and why Mara ultimately nailed it.One of the standout discussions centres around Stellan Skarsgård's chilling performance as Martin Vanger, particularly in the film's final act. The tension, the calm menace, and that unforgettable house scene all get the Born to Watch treatment, with the boys calling it one of the most gripping sequences they've covered on the podcast. They also touch on how the film compares to both the original Swedish version and the novel, noting that while the movie simplifies some of the complex family dynamics, it still captures the core of the story incredibly well.Of course, no Born to Watch episode is complete without a look at the numbers. With a 7.8 IMDb rating and an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score, the film sits alongside some seriously heavy hitters, and the boys debate whether it deserves that company. There's also a bit of love for the iconic opening title sequence, which Whitey argues is one of the best ever put to screen, and a fair bit of criticism for the trailer, which apparently gives away far too much of the plot.As always, the episode blends sharp insight with absolute chaos, balancing genuine film appreciation with the kind of banter you'd expect from three blokes who don't take themselves too seriously. If you're into dark thrillers, Fincher films, or just want to hear the boys unpack one of the most disturbing mysteries of the 2010s, this is one you won't want to miss.JOIN THE CONVERSATIONWho talks too much, Whitey or Dan?Is Lisbeth Salander one of the best characters of the 2010s?Is this remake actually better than the original?#TheGirlWithTheDragonTattoo #MoviePodcast #BornToWatch #FilmReview #DavidFincher #DanielCraig #RooneyMara #CrimeThriller #MovieReview #Podcast

Is he better off making Death Star parts in prison with Andy Serkis, or facing the consequences of the Imperial robbery he pulled for chameleon Stellan Skarsgård? Programleder: Sivert MoeSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/anger. In this International Feature episode, we dive into the 2025 drama Sentimental Value, a slow-burning, emotionally layered film that leans heavily into family, memory, and the weight of the past. With powerful performances and deeply human character work, this one gave us plenty to unpack, from what worked beautifully to what left us a little conflicted.• Stellan Skarsgård delivers a standout performance that anchors the film's emotional core • The family dynamics feel lived-in, with a believable sense of shared history and unresolved trauma • Character interactions come across as raw, genuine, and emotionally vulnerable • The pacing leans heavily into slow burn territory and we discuss whether it pays off • Somber but engaging moments help break up the heaviness and keep things compelling • The film pushes hard on a redemption arc for the father, which at times feels a bit too insistent • A late-film scene between Agnes and Gustav stands out, and we explore whether that relationship could have been a stronger central focus than Nora'sLetterbox'd Synopsis: Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star.

Reel Theology: Where Film Meets Faith — Oscar Season Conversations How do we heal when trauma runs through generations like a crack in a foundation? In this episode of Reel Theology, Revs. Trudy and Brittany explore the Oscar-nominated film Sentimental Value, starring Stellan Skarsgård. Set in Norway, the film tells the story of Gustaf, a filmmaker attempting to reconcile with his daughters after years of absence. As he tries to reconnect through a film he has written for them, the story reveals layers of grief, generational trauma, patriarchal expectations, and the longing for forgiveness. Through the lens of progressive Christian theology, this conversation wrestles with the age-old question of theodicy: How can a loving God exist when so much suffering exists in the world? It's part of a special Academy Awards series from First United Methodist Church of San Diego, Reel Theology, where faith and film meet in meaningful conversation. Listen as the female pastors of explore how the film raises profound spiritual questions that reflect on faith, forgiveness, and the courage it takes to confront what has been broken: How does trauma pass through generations? Why do people walk away from faith when suffering seems overwhelming? What happens when we hide from our pain instead of confronting it? Can reconciliation happen after years of absence? Stellan Skarsgård is a celebrated Swedish actor whose career spans more than five decades across European and Hollywood cinema. He first gained attention in Scandinavia before becoming an international screen presence in films such as "Breaking the Waves" and "Good Will Hunting." He went on to deliver acclaimed performances in movies like "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "Dune," "Dune Part 2," and television series like "Andor" and "Chernobyl." In his latest, Joachim Trier's "Sentimental Value," Skarsgård gifts us with perhaps his most robust and richest work in the form of Gustav, a once-prominent filmmaker struggling to mend fractured ties with his daughters. On this episode, he details the environment Trier created, through love, attention, and enthusiasm, that laid the tracks for that work to travel. He talks about the importance of "sabotaging your tools," why he's careful not to infect a director's vision, the emotional agility necessary for working with David Fincher, why relief from being an "acting addict" doesn't interest him, and much more! Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Substack and Instagram

Skarsgård spoke with Dave Davies about improvising with Robin Williams in ‘Good Will Hunting,' raising actor children, and how a stroke impacted his acting. Stellan Skarsgård as Gustav Borg in Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value is a man who is searching for connection with the two daughters, Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) he effectively abandoned when he split from their just deceased mother. The once storied director turns up at the funeral for his ex-wife and one of the first things he does is to reclaim a set of speakers from the home (a longstanding character in itself) that has housed members of his family for generations. Gustav is opinionated, arrogant, funny, and awkward. He's written a screenplay for Nora, who is now a respected theatre actress, to star in but she doesn't want anything to do with it or him.The quiet truth is that Nora and Gustav are two similar souls who both struggle with connection and loneliness. Art is their form of expression but it can also be a burden they don't know how to negotiate.Nadine Whitney speaks with Stellan about how Gustav sees Nora and longs for her to return the recognition.the Curb is a completely independent and ad free website that lives on the support of listeners and readers just like you. After scoring a BAFTA nomination and winning Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for The Worst Person in the World, Renate Reinsve is rightfully zeroing in on her first Academy Award nomination for Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value.Reinsve leads the film, which is one of the year's best, as stage actress Nora, the estranged daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Gustav Borg played by Stellan Skarsgård. When Gustav attempts to reconnect with Nora by offering her the lead role in his new film, she adamantly refuses, so Gustav turns to a Hollywood star instead, Elle Fanning as Rachel Kemp. Now Nora and her sister Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) must navigate their complex family dynamic while their father focuses on what could be his comeback film after a 15-year hiatus.Yes, Reinsve delivers yet another staggeringly impressive performance that's bound to pave the way to a significant awards season run, but as Reinsve explained while at the Collider Ladies Night studio, she didn't always feel so widely embraced. In fact, much of her earlier years involved getting kicked out of places. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The new movie Sentimental Value is one of the great films about absentee dads who reappear in their kids' lives. Stellan Skarsgård plays a renowned filmmaker preparing his next feature and attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughters (played by Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas). And it proves that at the very least, the tension between art and parenthood is complicated. The film is directed by Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) and also stars Elle Fanning.
