Too Many Tweets are For The Birds! How to use social media wisely. Social media can waste a lot of time… or help your small business grow. With this in mind, here are a few quick tips to help you get the most out of social media as a new entrepreneur… Do you Tweet too much on Twitter? Twitter is a fast way to send short messages to business associates, friends, family, and others. You simply enter up to t 280 characters, up from 140, and post. Everyone who follows you gets the update, and you can follow others, too. It’s fun and informative, but it can be addictive! To avoid wasting time, only accept legitimate followers, create a social media calendar and schedule some posts in advance. You can also use programs like Social Oomph, Hootsuite, and others to help organize your Tweets. Should you be on Facebook? Before you set up an account here, ensure that it will help your business. Are your customers using this social media platform? If so, add photos, links and messages to share valuable information about your services, expertise and current business activities on a regular basis. Also, respond to posts from others as soon as possible. What about Linkedn? Can business contacts find you on Linkedin? Take a few minutes to check out this online, networking tool and create your profile. You can search for past and current business associates and send messages. The site provides a great way to stay connected and meet people who can help you move your business to the next level. Just be sure to add value without “bugging” people with your sales message. These are just a few of the social media tools out there. But by familiarizing yourself with the “help” sections on each of these sites, you’ll get a great understanding of how to use them and find shortcuts to save time and effort in the process. Practice using each of these sites, and soon, you’ll be a social marketing pro. Just be careful you don’t spend too much time here! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Twitter Smarter Podcast with Madalyn Sklar - The Best Twitter Tips from the Pros
Mike Kawula is the founder of Social Quant, a Twitter growth tool that helps companies and individuals grow their Twitter following quickly, specifically gaining quality followers so they’re able to get more engagement, more retweets, and more clicks back to their website. Mike is a die-hard entrepreneur with a knack for running successful businesses. He shares stories of using Twitter as far back as 2007 to listen and answer customers’ pains for his cleaning company and online office supply business. He tells us how he made a $27,000-order from building a solid connection on Twitter. Not to mention, having Gary Vaynerchuk as one of his customers. In this episode, Mike shares a ton of great tips that you can apply right now to help you start growing your Twitter following. As Mike explains, there is nothing better than Twitter to create a good marketing impact on your business as long as you engage and act on it accordingly. Of course, while having fun too! Episode Highlights: Use Twitter to promote your business and connect with customers. Add them to a prospect list then build relationships by tweeting them and sharing content. Many companies lack their own social media management team so they’re not able to pay attention to customer complaints. Mike attracted customers because he was using social media to answer their pain points. Mike shares the story of how listening to Gary Vaynerchuk on Twitter helped land him as a loyal customer. 12 Great Actionable Tips to Increase Your Twitter Following: 1. Have a really good header and change it from time to time based on the season or promotions. 2. Create a good profile image. Go for a face behind the brand. Mike uses a logo with himself as his personal headshot. 3. Make sure you have a good, catchy, fun bio that describes exactly who you are, what you stand for, and a little bit about what your business is. 4. Control your first tweet by having a pinned tweet. It can be a call-to-action, a promotion, or about anything that has to do with your brand. 5. Cross promote across other social medial channels. Share your Twitter profile on your blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. 6. Embed your tweets into your blog or use the Click-to-Tweet tool. Like this: 7. Use an automation tool for spreading out your tweets on a regular basis such as Buffer, Hootsuite, and SocialOomph. Michael tweets every half hour and I tweet every hour! 8. Follow what’s trending on Twitter. “The trend is your friend.” 9. Studies show 23% more Retweets (RT) when you spell out the word asking for a “retweet.” 10. Make use of hashtags to get folks the opportunity to find what you’re tweeting about. Use Hashtagify to show you different hashtags you could use. But do your research to check out if it’s being used and how it’s being used. “Don’t be a hash-hole” 11. Engage with the influencers. Share influencers content and tag them. Chances are, they might also tweet some of your content. 12. Join Twitter chat parties. Don’t be a lurker. Engage with people. Wait…. there’s actually more! But you gotta listen in to find out about more surprise tips. You can reach Mike on Twitter @MikeKawula or @TheSocialQuant. You may also email him at mike@socialquant.net. Leslie Hassler, you’re Your Biz Rules, shares the RULES of social media- giving you the gift of a getting more done in your business and growing it too. Listen to this business coaching moment and find out what you might be missing about using outsourcing as a strategy to grow your business. There are 5 Rules to Using Social Media in Your Business and Today Leslie Hassler goes deep on the how to use social media to grow your business. R = Regulate 1. Regulate the number of channels your are one. The social media channels you select should support an measurble goal AND be one where your businesses' clients will likely be. You also need to regulate your communication so you can be consistent and frequent. It often takes daily interaction with a social media channel to see momentum build. U = Understand 2. Understand not just where your clients or potential clients are, but why they are where they are. Kristen spoke of the 3 Es of Social Media to education, engage and entertain. Your messaging needs to meet the needs of your potential clients, not just drive sales. L = Love It, Let It Go or Leave It 3. If social media isn't your thing, don't force it. You truly need to love being in the social media environment. If you don't love it, it will be obvious to your audience and will repel them versus attracting them. If social media is important to reaching your business goals, then let it go; by delegating to a capable team member or outsource to an expert. Warning: You still need to know what is going on. Don't dissappoint a potential client that talks to you all the time on social media by not knowing who they are. E = Efficiency Rules! 4. Be efficient. Develop a system to put social media posts online. Develop content banks so you are always prepared and use systems like Social Oomph and Edgar to save you time and help you reach your business goals. S = Success Equals Success 5. Build on the success you see. When your audience responds, give them more. Recipes work for you? Who else could you share that information with? Questions get great engagement for you? How could you create a experience every week built around a question to build expectation around your social media. The social media arena is a great platform to test and measure marketing ideas in your business. Thank you for joining us today for this business coaching moment. Keep an eye on scheduled tweets when current events intercede and make them inappropriate. She has to be careful and disciplined to manage her work and time. 1:00:25 Dan asks Derek how he does it. He uses HootSuite to schedule blogs. If you find the right tools, you eliminate the time suck. He also uses timing for tweeting in other time zones in other parts of the world. Get it done and get out. He likes Twitter for current events. 1:02:39 George asks if anyone has used SocialOomph (https://www.socialoomph.com/)? George says it takes scheduling to another level. It can rotate through pre-loaded tweets. 1:03:34 Jerry asks “Can you tweet too much?” Derek says yes, especially if you're self-promoting. He talks about Trish's approach with Twitter with 30% business and 70% personal. He asks, why not share your humanity? 1:05:07 George talks about queueing up tips on SocialOomph. 1:06:15 Dan asks if that got him business. 1:06:50 Jerry says sharing good things you find is helpful to people. 1:07:25 John calls it “content marketing.” You feed content into the machine for your target audience. 1:08:12 Derek has built his social media “friends” that way. He then talks about a book called “Launch,” by Michael Stelzner http://alturl.com/w8jny and how sharing with others creates relationships. 1:09:28 Questions from the audience: Q: Personal Social Media vs. Dedicated VO Brands. How do you separate those or do you need to? A: Lisa doesn't share info about her kids. She recycles her writings from time to time. 1:12:31 John restates the question: do you promote yourself on a personal page or a professional page? He talks about how personal our voice and brand are. So, on Twitter he combines it. On Facebook, he does have a business page mainly for his demos. And then he watches what he says on his Facebook personal page. 1:14:25 Jerry keeps things separate. George asks if you can automate dealing with “likes” on your personal page. 1:15:12 Derek says discretion is key. 1:16:22 Jerry keeps his timeline on Facebook clean. He deletes old posts. 1:16:49 Harlan Hogan break. 1:19:04 Back to questions. Q: Google Analytics and how do we quantify the return on investment? 1:19:34: Trish doesn't. She explains. 1:21:03 Q: “The way to make money in social media is to make advocates. And I make advocates by….” 1:21:24 A: Derek tries to show clients that he knows what he's doing. 1:22:16 Jerry is big fan of sharing the wealth and advocates for the people he does business with. Then they become return clients. 1:23:04 Lisa doesn't use day-to-day Twitter for getting business. To her, being a good advocate for her customers is being reliable and have them come back to her. 1:24:12 Trish goes back to question about separate pages. She can't imagine using Twitter for personal reasons! That's what Facebook is for, in her view. 1:26:39 John says it's relationship building, starting on social media. 1:27:10 Dan starts a lightning round for pet peeves on social media. 1:27:31 John: Blatant nonstop self promotion. 1:27:50 Trish—reposting the same thing over and over on Twitter. It doesn't create interaction. 1:28:33 Lisa: constant self promotion on Twitter, especially in politics, and no communications because of scheduled tweets. 1:29:42 Jerry: negativity without something good to say in between. 1:30:02 Derek, 1) don't beg for likes for no reason; 2) Blogs with no last name, no link; and 3) people who don't post in groups, but only comment with negative comments and start a problem. Post something original every once in a while. Trish doesn't like people who post but don't comment. 1:30:59 George: humble braggers. “I just booked a job with…” It's overdone. Post things more helpful to the community. 1:32:00 Dan says Derek's #3 is his #1: people who want to participate in the Monty Python Argument Clinic (Yes I do; No you don't) or incredibly passive aggressively throwing out bait. 1:32:48 Dan thanks the group. 1:33:42 Plug time: John follow him on Twitter and his blog (voiceovergenie.com/blog). 1:34:05 Trish: voiceovercafe.org where she and others have guests. 1:34:33 Lisa: lisaricevoice.com Follow her on Twitter. George suggests a show all about YouTube. 1:37:41 Break for VoiceOverXtra and Voice2014. 1:40:40 Whence came these two radiant celestial brothers clip. 1:40:55 They're back. 1:41:11 Donors thanks especially for sustaining donations. 1:41:48 EWABS Clickers still for sale. 1:42:09 George talks about the clicker debate on the audiobook page on Facebook. 1:42:30 Future shows: dark next Monday. 1:43:12 Sept. 8-Voice2014 show will air. 1:43:23 Sept. 15: Fan Roundtable.
