Howdy! Welcome to today’s motivational moment in business. Guess what, It is all about the Benjamins. Yep. That’s what I said. It is all about the money. Hard to believe – we’ve been programmed time and time again to say, “Oh, it’s not about the money, I just want to serve others.” LISTEN HERE: But let’s get real just for a moment. You are in a “Business”. My favorite definition of a businesshas always been a ‘healthy and profitable venture that can work without you.” I fully believe that if that isn’t your goal – then all you have is a job. If you’re ok with it, I’m ok with it. Let’s just not camouflage it as anything else. Dictionary.com even agrees. Business – The purpose and sale of goods in an attempt to make a profit. A person, partnership, or corporation engaged in commerce, manufacturing, or a service;profit-seeking enterprise or concern. There is that profit word again. Just in case you are wondering, to be profitable that means that there is money left over after you’ve paid your expenses AND yourself. And cash coming in the door doesn’t mean that there’s profit left in the bank. Sorry, that’s just a #businesstruth. A little tough love this morning. Why? Because, if you are going to truly serve people; if you are truly going to improve the world and leave it better than how you found it…you have to have a healthy profitable business to do so. If you truly want to serve people and it’s not about the money – then go volunteer – you’ll save yourself a lot of frustration about not having enough to be successful in business. The biggest mind-opening thought I have ever come to understand is this. Ask any nonprofit. They will tell you. They love to have you volunteer – but what really empowers them is your monetary gifts. They can have a greater impact when there is the money to fund the infrastructure. Consider Maslow’s Heirachy of needs. In order to satisfy the needs of others, you must first satisfy your needs first. It’s basic human nature. It’s ok to be focused on the money. I’m not talking about going all scrooge on me. It’s is that today I wanted to give you permission to say that it is all about the Benjamins. That I do my best work, and serve my clients to the best of my ability by having a healthy and profitable business. And when I have benjamin’s left over, I can truly begin to serve others and improve the world.

Have you ever considered that in order to make all your plans and desires successful, you might need to become a better version of yourself to make it happen? Join Leslie for Today's Motivational Moment in Business, as she invites you to consider who you need to be in order to have all that you want in your business. Anytime one of a client has the desire to grow, it is crucial to help guide them through the transformation of becoming a better version of themselves to make it a reality. Think of it this way. You are great exactly who you are. Who you are has gotten you to where you are – for better or for worse. Are you content staying here? The point in which you are? Or do you have desires past today, past where you are in this moment. To travel that path, to commit to that journey – who do you need to be to get there? Sometimes the be is skill related. I need to be a better manager of my business. I need to be better at sales. Some times the be is more mindset related. I need to be more confident. I need to be a believer. I need to be a dreamer. Sometimes, it is taking things on a moment by moment basis. Who do I need to be in this moment to stay true to the vision, to stay true to who I say I want to be in my life? Everyday you get the chance to be a better version of yourself. The question is, do you take advantage of it? For today’s show notes page, head to www.yourbizrules.com/mm80

You’re not a victim, you’re a victor.” [Time Stamp 39:20] Jason talks about how social relationships can be worth just as much, if not more valuable than money, and exemplifies how people with great financial wealth have had a hard time keeping it all without good relationships. Being a proactive problem solver in your business is key to having a business that can innovate and grow at crazy rates. If you are tired of the problems in your business, tired of putting out fires all day long, then listen to Leslie Hassler’s Business Coaching Moment. Show Notes Here BE RELENTLESS VIGILANT Adopt a Zero-Tolerance to habits and practices that create problems. If you tolerate the processes, habits and practices that create problems, you tolerate the problems. If you are tired of putting out fires, stop giving them the opportunity to start. The easiest way to solve a problem is not to allow it a chance to happen first. UNDERSTAND THE FINANCIAL 360 When it comes to problems, we let the perceived past investment or future cost of the solution stop us from tackling the problem. But that is only part of the financial impact in your business. What else is the problem costing you? What opportunities are you missing by dealing and being distracted by the problem? If the problem is only costing you pennies a day, what is the compound effect of that financial leak in your business? LET GO OF THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM Typically the problems in our business have a source. Is it software or tool based? Is it people based? Listen to hear my suggestion for letting go of the source whether it is a client or employee creating a problem; or even if it is you as the entrepreneur who is creating the problem. EASE, NOT EMOTION When problem solving at the micro stage is a part of our viligance, the problem solving is simple, it is easy. You don’t have fires to put out because you put out the embers the moment they take flame. Emotion around problems is often time the fuel for the fire for them. When the emotion and fear is gone, solving the problem is not about heaviness and isn’t hard. It is just easy. SIMPLIFICATION FACTOR Don’t let the simplicity of the problem or of the solution beguile you. Often times our greatest growth in our business comes from the simplification factor. This is a two-fold principle that the more things are simple, the less problems arise, but at the same time, simple solutions can yield big results.

Isn’t it glorious that we are all human? The fact that we aren’t perfect, means that everyday we are give the opportunity to learn and to grow. It can be wonderful. But each day we can also do wrong, make poor choices and a face the consequences of the poor choices of other people. The last four days, I have muttered a quote from Mice and Men, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” Not sure if that quote is accurate, but it is the way I remember it. And I think in our lives and our business, we all start out with good and even great intentions. It’s just that often our plans can go astray. It is how we handle those moments of opportunity that define us. It is how we frame the moments of anger, disappointment and frustration that allow us to move forward and not get stuck in the goop. Do you remember the days you were encouraged to imagine? The days when you were asked to create a story or draw a picture of a sunset? Some where along the way, we were expected to let go of imagination and be practical, logical in our choices. Where does that leave us? Stuck in the no man’s land of complacency. This weekend, while on a cub scout camping trip, I found that my oldest son was able to get exactly what he needed when he needed. Mind you, he didn’t always get it from me, but from other kids and parents around the camp. And in joking with another parent, talking about how capable he was able to fulfill his needs and desires, I simply said, “It’s because he is not afraid to ask.” Simply put, it is a great lesson for us as business owners to take from our children and the world around us… Be Fearless in Asking via Lellysmusings.Blogspot.com via ZenLama.com via QuotesWave.com via ILoveDevontionals.com via QuoteFancy.com

How To Use Assessments For College Success MARCH 24, 2015 BY LESLIE LEAVE A COMMENT(EDIT) Mike McCormack, People Right Careers I love examples of businesses leveraging the one thing they do best by finding out how they can serve another target market. If you are a business owner, or even just the parent of high school age children – you’ll want to hear today’s episode. Join me today, as our guest, Mike McCormack of People Right shares with how Mike’s assessment tool helps identify the potential careers and interest that would best suit your high school student. BIO: Mike spent the first 20 years or his career working for major corporations, focusing primarily on large IT system implementations. He worked for 5 different companies, including some of the most prominent consulting companies in the world, and held 10 different job titles. He learned that when projects fail, they don’t usually fail because of technology, they fail because we put the wrong people in the wrong places, or we don’t do a good job of matching their skills to the types of work we ask them to do. It’s not because they are ‘bad people’, but usually because they are a bad fit. CLICK TO TWEET [Time Stamp 36:09] Mike shares that only 30% of college students only had a job offer in hand at graduation. And a majority of those offers are more hourly positions; not the quality salaries jobs you might expect. When you know what you’re good at, are confident in it and can tell your story, your student will be better prepared for finding and high quality career. Parting Words [Time Stamp 44:50] People can look at preparing for college as a cost and not an investment. It is a backwards view in my perspective. Look at how many times that investment will pay you back in returns, especially if it better prepares your student not just in college, but in their professional careers. Motivation in your business can be found in everyday life, a song, the song of a bird or even a book. Og Mandino’s book The Greatest Salesman in the World is perhaps one of the most quintessential business books. Join Leslie for today’s motivational moments and how the 10 scrolls of Mandino’s book could be taken for the woman entrepreneurs 10 commandments. The book recommends reading one scroll everyday for 30 days, but I offer the secondary recommendation of reading one scroll per day for 3 days. The beauty of this book is in the repetition, of committing them to memory and then on the days when it is challenging, to be able to pull the words out of our memories like we might look at a photo of a beloved family member and bringing back the possibility, light and happiness to the day.
