Send us a textHave you ever felt like your business has become a prison of your own making? You're not alone. In this eye-opening conversation with Leslie Hassler, founder of Your Biz Rules, we dive deep into the stark difference between building a business that drains your soul versus one that fills it with purpose and joy.Leslie shares her journey as an "accidental entrepreneur" who transformed from dreading Monday mornings to being energized by them. Her powerful insight that "there's no profit fairy" challenges the common misconception that profits magically appear once you've worked hard enough or grown big enough. Instead, she reveals the critical dance between growth and scalability that most business owners misunderstand. The most enlightening part of our discussion explores how growth actually devours cash while making essential foundational investments that don't immediately show returns. Like renovating an older home, you're putting money into improvements behind the walls that pay dividends over time. Meanwhile, scalability is where you truly "rake it in" – giving one and getting ten back. Understanding this partnership completely transforms how you approach building your business. We also tackle the identity crisis that comes with evolving as a business owner. The transition from doing the work yourself to leading others through it challenges your self-worth and requires letting go of the adrenaline rush that comes from checking items off your list. As Leslie notes, this transformation happens repeatedly throughout your entrepreneurial journey – with your first employee, when you're no longer servicing clients directly, and eventually if you sell or transition your business.Whether you're just starting your entrepreneurial journey or looking to escape the prison of a business that's consuming rather than serving you, this conversation provides the perspective shift you need to build a business aligned with your vision and values. Take that first baby step today, and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish over time.

Turn Your Business into a Freedom Machine with Leslie Hassler   Scaling a business is the dream of many entrepreneurs, but for most, it turns into a nightmare filled with burnout, financial struggles, and inefficiencies. What if there was a way to grow and scale profitably without sacrificing your health, sanity, and freedom? On this episode of The Profit Answer Man, we sit down with Leslie Hassler, founder of Your Biz Rules, to discuss how entrepreneurs can create predictable profits, sustainable growth, and a thriving business—without the common pitfalls of burnout. Leslie shares her personal journey, key lessons from her Scaling Rich™ framework, and how business owners can shift their mindset to unlock real financial success. If you've ever felt stuck or overworked or wondered if scaling is really worth it, this episode is for you.   In This Episode, You Will Learn: How to break free from the feast-and-famine cycle of business growth. The biggest mistake business owners make when trying to scale (and how to avoid it). Why most entrepreneurs get in their own way—and how to shift your mindset to unlock success. The importance of implementing systems and processes before you scale. How to build a business that supports your ideal lifestyle, not just revenue goals. Practical steps to start creating predictable profits today.   Key Takeaways: Scaling Isn't Just About Growth—It's About Predictable, Sustainable Profits. Many business owners push for aggressive growth without ensuring their business can handle it. Leslie emphasizes that scaling profitably requires a strong financial foundation, repeatable processes, and a business model that doesn't solely depend on the owner. Entrepreneurs Often Get in Their Own Way. Leslie explains that business owners tend to believe their business is “different” or “special,” which prevents them from learning proven strategies that work. The truth? Business growth follows predictable patterns, and entrepreneurs must be willing to adjust their approach. Systems and Processes Are Key to Freedom. A common reason businesses struggle to scale is the lack of documented systems. Leslie shares how implementing structure allows entrepreneurs to step out of the daily grind and focus on growth. Profit First: A Must-Have for Scaling. Without a clear cash management system, many businesses scale out of control—leading to financial chaos instead of success. Leslie highlights the importance of using Profit First principles to ensure that growth is both profitable and sustainable. Burnout Is a Symptom of Poor Business Design. Leslie's approach emphasizes designing a business that supports the owner's life, rather than one that consumes it. She shares strategies to ensure scaling doesn't lead to exhaustion, but rather to more freedom and profitability.   About Leslie Hassler: Leslie Hassler is the founder of Your Biz Rules, a business strategist, and author of First This, Then That and the upcoming book Scaling Rich™. With over 17 years of entrepreneurial experience, she specializes in helping small business owners scale without burnout by creating predictable profits and sustainable business models. Her holistic approach blends financial strategy, leadership development, and systemization to help business owners reclaim their time, energy, and wealth.   Conclusion: Scaling a business should lead to more profit, more freedom, and less stress—not the other way around. Leslie Hassler's insights prove that with the right mindset, systems, and financial strategies in place, business owners can grow and scale without falling into the burnout trap.   Links: Website: https://www.yourbizrules.com/PAM  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lesliehassler/ X: https://x.com/YourBizRules   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/YourBizRules Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leslie.hassler/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LeslieHassler   Watch the full episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@profitanswerman Sign up to be notified when the next cohort of the Profit First Experience Course is available! Leslie Hassler, the dynamic president of Your Biz Rules, joins us to unravel the complex journey of finding true freedom in entrepreneurship. Many start their businesses dreaming of autonomy, only to find themselves trapped in a self-made cage. Leslie shares invaluable strategies on how intentional daily decisions and mindset shifts can lead entrepreneurs to genuine liberation. Together, we challenge the societal obsession with hustle culture and highlight the importance of a clear vision, supported by quality coaching, to ensure business ownership remains a path to freedom.   As businesses scale, entrepreneurs often face identity shifts and evolving workplace cultures. Leslie sheds light on the changing landscape of work, where opportunities like becoming an Amazon reseller demand innovation beyond the traditional 80-hour workweek. We explore personal stories of entrepreneurs grappling with these transitions, navigating guilt, and redefining their value in a growing enterprise. Leslie emphasizes that embracing change and aligning personal identity with business growth is crucial for maintaining momentum and satisfaction.   Navigating the financial landscape of a business is equally critical for achieving freedom. Leslie discusses the significance of strategic financial planning, viewing taxes as a marker of success, and the necessity of cash reserves for stability. We explore the unpredictability of business growth and how data-driven forecasting can anchor businesses in stable revenue streams. A strong company culture and clear employee value proposition emerge as key elements for retaining talent and ensuring organizational resilience. Leslie's insights remind us of the transformative potential when vision and action harmonize, encouraging every business owner to pursue greater impact, no matter the stage of their journey.   TIMESTAMPS:   (00:01) Path to Freedom in Business (09:20) Navigating Business Scale and Identity (22:51) Strategic Financial Planning for Business (27:34) Forecasting Business Stability and Employee Culture (40:36) Purpose and Vision for Business Success (50:27) Book Discussion Guide for Entrepreneurs   Connect with Leslie here: https://www.yourbizrules.com/path-2-freedom-podcast/   Grab Leslie's new book here: https://www.yourbizrules.com/first-this-then-that-book/   Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lesliehassler/   Join the FREE Path To Freedom Facebook Group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1634819733719715/   7 Steps to Owning a Franchise: https://path2frdm-1.hubspotpagebuilder.com/path-to-freedom-about-franchising   If you would like to learn more about this particular franchise opportunity or discuss franchise ownership in general - feel free to use the link to my calendar below to schedule a free, no-obligation introductory meeting.   https://calendly.com/wes-barefoot/introcallwithwes   Connect with Wes:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/path2frdm/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/path2frdm Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wesleybarefoot/   #Entrepreneur  #Business #Freedom

Leslie Hassler of Your Biz Rules yourbizrules.com) speaks with me about her experience guiding women owned service-based businesses into more profits cashflow and success. Leslie applies over 14 years of entrepreneurial experience to help business owners and entrepreneurs navigate the waters when things go “sideways”. Her experiences helps companies overcome the obstacles and continue to thrive and grow. We discuss her “Scaling Rich Personality Quiz” (scalingrich.com), which focuses on personality type and help you achieve the highest level of business for yourself. We take a deep dive into how Leslie came up with her business concept and after a two-year journey and discovering that she did not “love” her business at the time. There are many methods to start, run and grow your business. Leslie's business focuses on women entrepreneurs because she has been there, done that . . . juggled the roles, raised a family, while running a business! Hey, but don't worry guys . . . she can help you focus on your business growth, too. As Leslie says, good marketing picks a spot in the sand and plants a flag, but that doesn't mean that people that are a little difference can't come into it. Helen Keller's quote about vision: The only thing worse than being blind is having sight, but no vision. A guiding vision is necessary to flourish in business. Vision = Beacon For instance, Leslie's guiding vision is “empowering prosperity for every business”. So many things are out of our control, but a vision can help stay on track. Regarding strategy, some can be implemented quickly and some can take quite a while. Go for the easy wins first. But, as your business matures, you will need to focus on some longer-term strategies. What the biggest obstacles to success for entrepreneurs in 2021? The Three M's: Motivation Money Mindset Business owners need to have a Dashboard. Look at the KPIs, cashflow and a strategic plan. This will allow you to measure where you are and where you might have gone off track. Strategic planning is necessary for business growth, and a Dashboard can keep entrepreneurs on track. Always be learning . . . and always be implementing. Take nuggets, ideas, strategies from books, podcasts, videos and implement them. Learning without implementation is useless. collinharbour.com yourbizrules.com

In the past, this used to be cliche, but more recently it is becoming acceptable. Leslie says its great to ask questions as there are others who have been in your position!Build your business up in a way that works FOR you, not in a way that works you. Being a proactive problem solver in your business is key to having a business that can innovate and grow at crazy rates.  If you are tired of the problems in your business, tired of putting out fires all day long, then listen to Leslie Hassler’s Business Coaching Moment. Show Notes Here BE RELENTLESS VIGILANT Adopt a Zero-Tolerance to habits and practices that create problems.  If you tolerate the processes, habits and practices that create problems, you tolerate the problems.  If you are tired of putting out fires, stop giving them the opportunity to start.  The easiest way to solve a problem is not to allow it a chance to happen first. UNDERSTAND THE FINANCIAL 360 When it comes to problems, we let the perceived past investment or future cost of the solution stop us from tackling the problem. But that is only part of the financial impact in your business.  What else is the problem costing you?  What opportunities are you missing by dealing and being distracted by the problem?  If the problem is only costing you pennies a day, what is the compound effect of that financial leak in your business? LET GO OF THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM Typically the problems in our business have a source.  Is it software or tool based?  Is it people based?  Listen to hear my suggestion for letting go of the source whether it is a client or employee creating a problem; or even if it is you as the entrepreneur who is creating the problem. EASE, NOT EMOTION When problem solving at the micro stage is a part of our viligance, the problem solving is simple, it is easy.  You don’t have fires to put out because you put out the embers the moment they take flame.  Emotion around problems is often time the fuel for the fire for them.  When the emotion and fear is gone, solving the problem is not about heaviness and isn’t hard.  It is just easy.   SIMPLIFICATION FACTOR Don’t let the simplicity of the problem or of the solution beguile you.  Often times our greatest growth in our business comes from the simplification factor.  This is a two-fold principle that the more things are simple, the less problems arise, but at the same time, simple solutions can yield big results.

She’s since told thousands of stories as a journalist, culminating in her 2013 book, The Fire Outside My Window: A Survivor Tells the True Story of California’s Epic Cedar Fire, featured in the March 2015 NBC Dateline special, “Escape.” Now, as founder and chief story strategist at Strategic Story Solutions, Sandra helps change makers on the journey from survival to significance find the meaning, message and mission hiding in their own stories.   LISTEN HERE   SHOW NOTES [Time Stamp 5:02] Sandra introduces us to storytelling and how it can drive the marketing in a business, by allowing entrepreneurs to tell compelling story that connects to the emotional decision making part of the brain of our clients.   There is hardly anything more powerful than a well told story. #marketing #truth @syounger CLICK TO TWEET    [Time Stamp 8:00] Sandra talks about the elements that make a story powerful.  Story telling is hard wired into our culture and has been around when we hear a story told in the right way, it affects the parts of the brain of our clients, that has them experiencing the same emotion that the character in the story   The right story told in the right way is the key #marketing @syounger shares the secrets here CLICK TO TWEET   [Time Stamp 13:00] Sandra shares an example of a study that measures the value of a story on a group of people, telling the story in two different ways – understanding how a potential client might respond to your story helps show the value of your story.   The narrative arch of your story engages your clients%252C bonds them to you and prepares them to work with you. %2540syounger CLICK TO TWEET   [Time Stamp 18:10] Sandra talks about the innate curiosity that led her into journalism and how the curiosity and engagement into other people’s stories has been a part of her life.  This fascination with stories and her innate curiosity led her on her entrepreneurial path. She shares how one of the largest forest fires in California shook up her life, and pushed her to develop her business.   I knew I had to tell this story%252C it was my sacred mission. %2523purpose %2523smallbiz %2540syounger CLICK TO TWEET   [Time Stamp 31:10] Sandra talks about how to find the right story in your life.  Sandra explains that the right story in our lives is often times the one that we don’t want to share.  The stinkier it is, that is often that story that helps the people that you serve. The braver we are in sharing the story, the more it can impact the people that hear it.  The skill is in telling the story that shares, but doesn’t over share.   Being vulnerable is the key to a story that works. %2523marketing %2523smallbiz %2540syounger CLICK TO TWEET   [Time Stamp 39:50] Once the Sandra helps draw out the story, the next step is to help connect the dots of the story and how it relates to the audience and the business.  The key is to connect the dots between your clients’ life and the problems you have and the same problems you had and have triumphs. Sandra gives examples how she helps her clients communicate the weight of a story, without sharing all of the ‘gory’ details. [Time Stamp 47:15] Sandra and Leslie talk about how using this story truly helps make you memorable and becomes the defining factor in showing how unique and special you are. It’s the key to how people will remember you long after.  [Time Stamp 50:35] Once you have your signature story, it can be used in many ways.  Sandra shares from speaking to your website, how your signature story should be woven into every part of your business. Just having your story gives you clarity, a trust factor and a driving purpose for your business.   When you have the clarity of your story%252C it allows you to serve and be served. %2540syounger shares the power in your %2523business CLICK TO TWEET   [Time Stamp 56:26] Sandra talks about how corporations and advertising has switched to telling stories.  She gives the examples of Super Bowl ads and how the best ones, the ones we remember are built on stories. There are RULES in your business that make things simple and easy for you to have a profitable business that gives you the time to enjoy it and the freedom to serve your big purpose.  Leslie Hassler, you’re Your Biz Rules, shares  the RULES of social media- giving you the gift of a getting more done in your business and growing it too.  Listen to this business coaching moment and find out what you might be missing about using outsourcing as a strategy to grow your business. There are 5 Rules to Using Social Media in Your Business and Today Leslie Hassler goes deep on the how to use social media to grow your business. R = Regulate 1. Regulate the number of channels your are one.  The social media channels you select should support an measurble goal AND be one where your businesses' clients will likely be.  You also need to regulate your communication so you can be consistent and frequent.  It often takes daily interaction with a social media channel to see momentum build. U = Understand 2.  Understand not just where your clients or potential clients are, but why they are where they are.  Kristen spoke of the 3 Es of Social Media to education, engage and entertain.  Your messaging needs to meet the needs of your potential clients, not just drive sales. L = Love It, Let It Go or Leave It 3. If social media isn't your thing, don't force it.  You truly need to love being in the social media environment.  If you don't love it, it will be obvious to your audience and will repel them versus attracting them.  If social media is important to reaching your business goals, then let it go; by delegating to a capable team member or outsource to an expert.  Warning: You still need to know what is going on.  Don't dissappoint a potential client that talks to you all the time on social media by not knowing who they are. Pamela Zimmer, Author & Mother, Episode 17   Join Guest Pamela Zimmer, author of Reclaim The Joy of Motherhood as we discuss the decision that women make to either stay-at-home or maintain their positions in corporate and entrepreneur.  Pamela specializes in helping other mothers navigate through the journey of postpartum depression.  Leslie & Pamela also share tips for handling depression, balancing your family and business and having the confidence to make the best decisions for yourself.   BIO: Pamela Zimmer is a Stay-at-Home Mom, #1 bestselling author & speaker, dedicated to bringing awareness to and supporting women with Postpartum Depression. She has two beautiful boys, Zackery and Brayden, and a loving husband, Will. As with most women, there is more to Pamela than just being a Mom. She was an Architect by profession and after more than thirteen years of working in the industry, seven of which she ran her own successful business, Pamela took a leap of faith to follow her heart. She had always wanted to have a successful career, but she couldn’t ignore her true passion and life purpose of being a Stay-at-Home Mom. Just before her second son was born, Pamela quit her career for Motherhood.   The decision was one of the hardest she had ever had to make, but it was also one of the most rewarding. Being able to stay home and care for her children was what she wanted more than anything. What Pamela didn’t anticipate was the struggle she encountered with Postpartum Depression. She thought she was prepared for it, being proactive in her determination not to “get it.” What she didn’t realize was that Postpartum Depression is not anything you can predict, prevent or even really prepare for.     On her blog, Stories of A Mom, Pamela writes about her experience with Postpartum Depression, as well as every day experiences and inspirations with her two boys. A bestselling author, she finds joy in her writing, and is not afraid to be honest (because sometimes life isn’t always pretty). Pamela has truly found healing and peace through her writing, and she invites you to be a part of her journey both through her blog and with her book, Reclaim The Joy of Motherhood. By sharing her story Pamela hopes to inspire other women who are ready to make a big life change, as well as providing support for women going through Postpartum Depression. She is always willing to listen, and is never afraid to speak from her heart.    [Time Stamp 5:20] Pamela describes the her architectural firm that she owned,  he decision process and the reasons she decided to make the decision to become a stay-at-home mom.   [Time Stamp 9:10] Leslie and Pamela discuss the difficulty of making the decision of whether you choose whether to be a stay-at-home or not. They shared their experiences with motherhood and the choices they make.     [Time Stamp 14:00] When you make a past investment into your career or business, it can be easy to feel guilty about making a change.  Leslie shares her viewpoint on making a change.     [Time Stamp 15:00] Pamela shares her story of being diagnosed with postpartum depression after the birth of her second child and the realization of how much the postpartum depression had been in her life since the birth of her first child.   [Time Stamp 20:00] Leslie and Pamela talk about the thoughts and reasoning that you can go through when you don’t feel justified in feeling sad.  The realizations that you make when you are in depression and how it different it can look after recovery       [Time Stamp 23:18] Pamela talks about her book, Reclaim The Joy of Motherhood. And in comparison to the other books on postpartum depression, how the book she wrote became the book she wished she had to read during her recovery.   [Time Stamp 26:28] Pamela shares the tips and strategies from Reclaim The Joy of Motherhood.  These strategies are the one that she walks each of her clients through to create a foundation for recovery. [Time Stamp 32:32] Pamela shares how she is using the Happy Mommy Method to recover from postpartum and how this develops a long-term solution and skills to show Moms that they are not alone and that there is more to life after postpartum.     [Time Stamp 34:30] Pamela shares some tips if you believe a friend is suffering from postpartum depression and how you can be there for them.   Pamela’s Parting Words   [Time Stamp 42:45]   Follow your heart whatever it is. If you have a big decision or big choice to make, don’t be afraid of it.  Because the greatest things always happen when you have a breakthrough after the moment of feeling uncomfortable.  If you hold back and don’t follow your heart, you will never have the courage to bust through whatever is making you uncomfortable.  You never know where it will lead you.   LINKS:   Begin your journey of healing now, with Pamela’s 3 FREE GIFTS:   “Postpartum Depression - Fact or Fiction?” (a surprising quiz for anyone who wants to test their knowledge on PPD),“30 Daily Affirmations to Achieve Balance and Fulfillment” (a pdf to help you become your best each day), and the eBook “From Business Success to Parenting Fulfillment: A Woman’s Journey to Motherhood” (in which she shares strategies for creating and implementing a bigger plan).30 Days of Affirmations   www.loveandmommyhugs.com       Thank you for investing your time with us on the Healthy Business Healthy Family Podcast Show.  For more resources and show notes, head over to YourBizRules.com/pamela10.  Join us next episode as we talk Kristen Robinson with KR Design.  She’ll be sharing her expertise with social media, the misconceptions that entrepreneurs have and the tips and strategies to make it your own. About Leslie Hassler: Leslie Hassler found herself thrust into the entrepreneurial arena 7 years ago when she was unexpectedly out of a job and decided to open her own business.  As a mother to two toddlers, Leslie wanted to find a way to do what she loved and still be able to spend time with her family.  And as she set out to start a business, what she actually did was create a ‘job’ in disguise of a ‘business’.  Sadly, she found that her business skills from corporate did not apply to a start-up as she worked longer and harder to try to keep up.  She was a slave to her business with no time left for her family and the things she loved most in life. As the recession showed the many flaws in her business, Leslie set out to find a better way to run a business.  What she found was the way to set boundaries and design her life and business so she could have it all!  Your Biz Rules ™ is the culmination of her learning that has allowed her to manage two entrepreneurial businesses, with multi-six figure revenues, while balancing her roles as a mother of two energetic boys, wife and volunteer. Known as the Queen of Healthy Boundaries and the Business Strategist & Time Leverage Stickler, Leslie helps women entrepreneurs stop being a slave in their business, take control and live life on their own terms.
