Galatians 1:11-24I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas and stayed with him fifteen days. I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord's brother. I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” And they praised God because of me.
Matthew 4:1-11Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Jesus fulfills Isaiah's promise, proclaiming good news to the poor and freedom to the captive. He clothes His people with garments of salvation and righteousness. In Him, the year of the Lord's favour has come, and His Kingdom brings everlasting joy.
Exodus 3:1-15Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!"And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, ‘What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.' ” God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.' “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation."
Christ invites the thirsty to come and drink freely of His grace. His Word brings life, accomplishing God's purposes and satisfying our deepest hunger. In Him, we find joy, peace, and abundance that never runs dry.
Genesis 28:10-22Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz.Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's household, then the Lord will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.
Jesus is the Servant who bears our griefs and carries our sins. Through His wounds we are healed, and His sacrifice brings us peace. In Him, God's plan of salvation is accomplished for all who believe.
Ephesians 3:14-19For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
God promises streams in the desert, and Christ fulfills this by making all things new. He redeems His people, calling them by name and leading them through trials. In Him, we see the new creation springing forth with grace and life.
Where there was wilderness, Christ brings life and joy. He heals the broken, strengthens the weak, and makes the desert bloom with hope. In Him, the redeemed walk the highway of holiness toward everlasting joy.

Human strength and false alliances cannot save, but Christ the King reigns in righteousness. He is our refuge, bringing peace and security to His people. In Him, we learn to trust God alone and live under His just rule.
God prepares a feast where death is swallowed up forever. In Christ's resurrection, this promise is fulfilled, and tears are wiped away. The King invites us to rejoice in His victory and share in His banquet of salvation.
From what seemed dead, God raises new life in Christ, the righteous Branch. Jesus rules with wisdom, justice, and peace, gathering people from every nation. In Him, the promise of renewal and unity is fulfilled.
Into the world's darkness, God shines His light through the promised Son. Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, and Prince of Peace who reigns with justice. In Him, the dawn of salvation breaks, and His Kingdom brings everlasting joy.
All false gods will fall, but Christ the true King stands forever. He alone brings salvation and security when human pride and idols collapse. In Him, we find lasting hope and the only foundation that endures.
As we draw closer to Christmas, we begin to reflect on the mysteries of the Incarnation, even as we continue to dwell in the darkness of Advent. This Sunday, we'll hold the tension of hope that we remember in Advent, as we claim the promise of renewal even as we look around and see very few signs of its coming.
As we hear Isaiah 35, we're reminded that God speaks hope into places that look completely broken. This promise of streams in the desert and a clear, holy way was given to people facing loss, exile, and devastation—and it tells us that dryness, sorrow, and despair do not last forever. Even when we feel worn down, lost, or unsure of the path ahead, God is still at work, making a way where there seems to be none. Advent invites us to trust that joy will return, restoration is coming, and God keeps His promises.
