Fame has done some very bad things for folks like Joshua Harris, Mark Driscoll, and the Duggars (to some extent). There is a thin line between ambition and just being faithful to the talents God has given you. How did Jesus deal with fame? There are examples of some who have handled fame without collapsing, but usually not with young people tossed into fame head-first. We ask some basic questions on this segment: Do we really want to make an impact? Are we supposed to change the world? Why are we here? Why are we doing this?

As a preacher's kid and working alongside churches for the past 20 years, I've reflected on the good, the bad, and the ugly. I see the church and its teams to be grossly under-resourced. My goal in this episode is to bring awareness to some of these areas and inspire change. There is a better way. This episode explores the following: What management guru Peter Drucker says are the toughest jobs in the USA. The difference between winning locker rooms and losing locker rooms. Your Pastor and exec teams are exhausted, here is why. 50% of pastors do not feel like they can meet the demands of the job. Coaching ROI is 6-7x the cost. So why don't more organizations use it? Below are all the places where you can grow. Most of them are free. God Bless. “To avoid walking the way of the cross is to avoid Christ himself,” says Hannah Nation, co-editor of a new book entitled Faith in the Wilderness: Words of Exhortation from the Chinese Church. On this episode of All Things, Hannah—who has been involved in ministry in China for over 20 years—shares stories and perspectives from Chinese house church pastors. Most striking for American Christian listeners will be perhaps the Chinese Christian perspective on suffering: following Jesus and growth in him requires it. Tim Keller, says it well in the book's foreword, “To get a desperately needed perspective, we must listen to the voices of believers in parts of the world where the opposition is much more pervasive and often takes the form of violence.”We have so much to learn from our brothers and sisters in China. As one Chinese pastor says, "In this disease-infested world, there is no time to entertain and serve false gods who lead to death. We are called to practice death every day: to follow closely our Savior Jesus Christ, who gave his life for us. The mission of a Christian is fearless faith in this deadly world." May we practice death every day. May we lose our lives to find them. May we learn from our siblings in China.

We live in a digital age where at any given time, we can listen to sermons, podcasts, interviews, etc. focused on Jesus and his Word. But should we spend more time-consuming content online or engaged with our church family? Should we listen to other pastors more than the pastor at our church? What about online church? Is that just as beneficial for our souls as physically gathering with the body?
In this episode Pastors Nathan and Micah invite Life Church Fisher's campus pastor, Chip Burdick, to the studio. The guys discuss recent polling that suggests the majority of evangelical Christians in America don't believe in a literal devil. How does this effect the future of our nation and the spiritual battles we all find ourselves in? Dive in to hear this fascinating conversation about angels, demons, and the power of the Holy Spirit the Lord wants us all to walk in.

I received a note from David, one of the listeners to this podcast, who asked for my take on Timothy as a pastor and how the function of modern church pastors differs from the function of their New Testament counterparts. I flipped the order of this to talk about the differences first and then next week, I'll be taking a look at Timothy while continuing to build on the differences. Comparing the differences between how modern institutional church pastors function and the function of pastors in the New Testament is like comparing apples to oranges. One of these is not like the other. So let's talk about it.
You may have already seen this in last week's article, but starting at the end of this week, I'm headed on a new adventure. My new journey will be to take a 40-day sabbatical, something I've never yet had the opportunity to do in my 40 years of ministry. On today's episode, it's just Austin and I sharing some reflections on the decision for me to go on sabbatical, the heartache we feel for pastors who don't feel like this would ever be an option, and the hope for small-church pastors to replenish. If you're in a place in your life where Jesus Himself is calling you to do something, and you can't do it because of your ministry, you're in a bad spot.I am prayerful that this episode will speak to your heart today. And I am trusting it will solidify a message that I believe God is speaking to many of us.Also: The podcast will still continue while I'm on sabbatical starting this Saturday, and I look forward to sharing what I learn during this period of rest when I get back at the beginning of August!Show Notes: https://www.95network.org/sabbatical-episode-84/Support the show
