LSU wins the college football national championship last night, led by quarterback Joe Burrow completing 64 percent of his passes, by far his worst percentage all season, and yet he and that offense looked unstoppable. Trevor Lawrence did not look great, but he doesn't deserve the criticism he's receiving today. It's yet another year when the elite of college football make it to the top while everyone else falls short. Only eleven teams in the last six years have made the College Football Playoff. Only six teams have won games, and only four have won a title. For the vast majority of college football teams, there is no road to the playoffs. Punishment has come down for the Houston Astros in relation to the sign stealing scandal. The manager and GM have been suspended, and then immediately released, draft picks have been lost, and a fine has ben issued. Knowing how this has all worked out for Houston, would you take the same deal assuming you didn't know the M's were cheating until after the World Series win? Lifelong Houston Astros fan Terry Blount calls into the show to react to the punishment handed down.

Softy has the day off, so Terry Blount is stepping in for the first hour of the show today. It'll be the last time we hear from Terry for awhile as he's about to move to San Diego. The Mariners have been bad the last few weeks. In fact, that's an understatement. They're on pace to have the most errors in team history, and the most errrs in the MLB in 30 years. Are they the worst team in franchise history? With this franchise, that's saying something. The Seahawks grabbed a lot of players in the draft that look pretty solid thus far. Schneider and Carroll have proven year after year that they can draft and develop players at an elite level. Will they continue to have the success they've had in the past? The Huskies are poised to have a huge year with players like McDaniels and Stewart, but with so many young guys, can they go deep in the tournament?

Dick Fain returns to the show tomorrow. Today, Softy is joined by Terry Blount. First on the show though, after a couple weeks of Spring Football, Husky head coach Chris Petersen talks about what he's seeing from his team; what's working, and where there needs to be improvement. Russ spoke at a press conference today with Pete Carroll and John Schneider about the new deal. Who would have expected that this is where we'd be when he was drafted in 2012. Now it's time to focus on the rest of the team. This is the most confidence we've had in the O-line since probably 2013, but we need to make absolutely sure we're sold there. It's time to look at the wide receiver position. Let's make sure we get him what he needs to get us to the Super Bowl again.

Softy and Dick are on their way to Minneapolis for the Final Four. They'll be broadcasting from Radio Row tomorrow and Thursday. In the meantime, Terry Blount is filling in this afternoon. The Mariners continue to roll, beating the Angels 2-1 in their final game of the first home stand of the season. Marco pitched a near-complete game, Daniel Vogelbach hit his first home run of the year, and the defense looked okay. Usually Petros Papadakis joins us at 4:20; today we've moved it up to 3:20. Petros talks with Terry about everything happening in the world of sports, from the Final Four, to the Wilson contract negotiations. Payrolls for baseball teams vary pretty substantially, from just $53 million, to well over $200 million. Just two guys on the Red Sox make more than the Rays' entire payroll combined. Now, some teams are paying players in advance of free agency, offering them less than they'd make if they wait, but more than they'd make in the short term. It's a way to keep players around who would otherwise leave, and it's a pretty good strategy for teams trying to keep talent while avoiding massive contracts.

Things keep getting more heated between Anthony Davis and the Pelicans as he supposedly suffers an injury and leaves the game last night. Voice of the Sounders Matt "Stretch" Johnson remembers former Sounder Sigi Schmid who passed away earlier this week. Early in the NFL season, it looked like we knew who would dominate the league; Rams, Chiefs, Saints, but things are slowing down for some of those top teams. Are the playoffs wide open this year? What were the best and worst plays of the Seahawks season?

Tim May is a sports reporter for the Columbus Dispatch. He calls in to talk Buckeye football before next week's Rose Bowl game against the Huskies. Newy Scruggs of NBC Dallas knows the Cowboys better than just about anyone else. He explains why the Cowboys team the Hawks will likely see in the playoffs is different than the team they saw in Week 3. The Cougars play Friday night, and there's no one better than Jed Collins to tell us exactly where this team stands. Jed also explains why this year's Saints team is better than the Saints team that won the Super Bowl.
Terry asks Twitter, who is the Seahawks MVP this season, and who was the player that surprised you? Pete Carroll speaks to the press this afternoon. We've got all the audio. One of the things he discussed was the idea of sitting players this weekend and why he's not a fan of it. Jed Collins doesn't agree. This afternoon the ServPro First Responders Bowl was canceled, the first time ever this has happened to a bowl game. The fact that they allowed this to happen shows how little it actually means to make a bowl.
It's Christmas Week and Softy and Dick Fain have a few days off. Terry Blount is sitting in with Jed Collins. The Seahawks beat the Chiefs Sunday night and are now definitely in the playoffs. They don't know who they'll face yet, but odds are it'll be Dallas. First though, they've got to finish out the regular season with a game against the hapless Cardinals. Is there any chance they lose this game? The Athletic's Michael-Sean Dugar answers that question, talks about Pete Carroll's contract, and more. Baker Mayfield is in the middle of more controversy; this time for staring down his former coach, Hue Jackson. This isn't on the level of his other character issues, but it's something you wouldn't imagine other leaders liek Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, etc. doing.
