Ready to arrive at the start line feeling like a coiled spring instead of a burnt match? Coach Chris Twiggs joins us to lay out a clear, no-nonsense roadmap for the final weeks before race day—why tapering wins races, how to dial in run-walk ratios, and what actually matters for multi-day challenges like Wine & Dine and Dopey. We dig into the simple details that make a huge difference: 30-second walk breaks to avoid late-race fade, practicing your race-day shoes and costume, and treating those early miles as your warm-up after long corral waits. We also tackle the big Disney decisions. Want character photos without wrecking your pace? Train a little faster than necessary and learn to move with awareness—no headphones, head on a swivel, respect wheelchair athletes, and rejoin cleanly after stops. For first-timers, we reset expectations: Disney races are celebrations, not trials. Your proof of fitness is the start line; the race is your victory lap. Add in Chris' best advice for pre-race nerves (talk to your neighbors, get out of your head), plus the rookie mistakes to skip (new shoes, new fuel, all-day park marathons the day before). Then we break down Wine & Dine essentials: expo virtual queue strategy, Brooks collab shoes, 5K/10K/half course updates with better flow and more park time, spectator notes, no time change this year (expect darker miles), and how to make the most of the post-race party—including ticket tips and a gift card reminder. Along the way, we celebrate the community power behind Galloway's coaching and our Tuesday Zooms, where training plans meet real support. If this helped, follow the show, share it with a friend training for Run Disney, and leave a quick review. In this practical episode for runners, PT and runner Dr. Rob Berghorn (Endurance Unleashed) joins Coach Chris to break down the need-to-know of efficient, pain-free running. We cover beginner to advanced cues, cadence targets, ground contact time, uphill/downhill technique, shoe selection vs. trends, when (and how) to use insoles, year-round strength training, and smart warm-up/cool-down routines. If your watch is spitting out numbers and you're not sure which ones matter—or you want fewer niggles and more speed—this one's for you. Key takeaways:Start simple: build consistency (2–3x/week), try a run-walk approach, progress gradually. Cadence sweet spot: generally ~160–180 spm; use music or a metronome to train it. Ground contact time: aim roughly ~0.21–0.31 sec; shorter = less braking & stress. Hills: up = shorter, quicker steps; down = avoid hard braking; control with choppy steps if needed. Shoes: fit first (width & length); don't chase trends; rotate models; use insoles as a tool, not a crutch. Strength all year (free weights, single-leg control) to prevent common hip/knee/foot issues. Always warm up (5+ min, dynamic) and cool down to speed recovery.Send us a text Support the show

Coach Chris is back to discuss how to achieve multidimensional success, which is the process of thriving in the areas of life that are most important to you. In this episode of The Balanced Warrior Podcast, he shares concepts from their best-selling book book, You Have Infinite Power, which focuses on the seven levels of awareness. Coach Chris challenges you to evaluate your own level of awareness and find ways to create that multidimensional success you crave! Join Coach Chris as he unpacks one of the most important chapters of their bestselling book. Awareness! Animal: The lowest level of awareness. This is a state of just surviving and existing, focused on meeting basic needs like food and shelter. The Masses: This is the level where most of society exists. People at this level follow what everyone else is doing without thinking for themselves. Understanding: At this level, you realize you want more out of life but are paralyzed by fear and worry about what others will think. Individual: This is when you identify your unique ability or specialty and have a strong desire to express it. Discipline: You have developed technical and physical skills to be an expert in your field. This is a level where you can begin to flourish in your career. Recondition: This is a level where you become mentally and emotionally connected to what you're doing and are driven by a worthy ideal or purpose. Your work becomes a mission rather than just a job. Disassociation: This is the highest and most difficult level of awareness to achieve. At this level, external circumstances and situations don't affect your internal peace. You can remain calm and centered, reacting rationally to life's challenges.
Taper is a reduction in overall training volume, which gives you more time - and a lot of athletes spend that time stressing out. But there are things you can do in those few weeks to make race day substantially easier. In this episode of Coach Quip, we have 11 tips to help you leverage these weeks and turn taper time into race day power.

Thanks to our Partners, NAPA Auto Care and NAPA TRACS Watch Full Video Episode Chris Cotton's latest venture into shop ownership puts his coaching philosophy to the ultimate test, and the results speak volumes. Episode Highlights: Shop Acquisition and Rapid Payoff: Despite once saying he'd never own a shop again, Chris purchased Firestone of Durango about a year ago, calling it “too good of a deal to pass up.” Planned as a three-year owner-financed purchase, he paid it off in just six months. Profitability and Growth: With a 31% net profit (compared to the industry average of 5–8%), the shop's success reflects the very systems Chris teaches. Advertising and Expansion: Spending roughly $10K per month, Chris follows his mantra: “Advertise for the shop you want to be, not the shop you are.” He prioritizes Local Service Ads (LSAs). Operations and Staffing: Chris rejects the idea of a “technician shortage,” noting great shops attract great people. Coaching in Action: Chris practices what he preaches: action based learning, accountability, and focusing on fundamentals like proper pricing before chasing more customers. For owners eyeing an eventual exit, he advises cleaning up financials 3–5 years in advance and building a business that thrives without daily owner involvement. “The other part is that he loves it. He doesn't miss. A ton of people are—to be cliche—talented, but they don't do the things to maximize their talent. So how is he there? Because he's doing everything to at least give him the chance to maximize his talent. Do we know it's going to be 1:42? No, we don't know that. We have no clue what it is… He's doing the things it takes to see how good he can be—and he loves finding out what that looks like.”My guest for today's episode is Chris Capeau, the coach behind one of the most remarkable performances in American track history. As the head distance coach at Northwest High School in Texas, Capeau found success with his middle distance programs. Even before that at other Texas high schools, he was a bit of a journeyman in coaching at various universities and learning from other accomplished coaches in the sport. But this summer, the spotlight found him after 16-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus stunned the track world with a 1:42.27 in the men's 800m at the U.S. Championships. That time was a three second PR, a new U18 world record, the fastest time ever run by a high schooler, and the fourth fastest time by an American ever. More than that, it earned Lutkenhaus a spot on Team USA for the World Championships in Tokyo, making him the youngest man in history to compete at a global outdoor championships. It was a moment that defied logic, but it didn't happen by accident.Capeau has been building upon a strong foundation established by Cooper's parents. A former NAIA marathon standout and collegiate coach with deep experience in building programs, Capeau brings a thoughtful athlete-centered approach that prioritizes trust, patience, and long term development. That philosophy has now helped produce a once in a generation talent and has rewritten what we thought was possible for high school middle distance running. This conversation pairs well with our previous episode with Cooper. You can find it here. In this one, we try to make even more sense of the performance by speaking to the man who worked on making it happen day in and day out._____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Coach Chris CapeauProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Listen: Cooper Lutkenhaus Breaks Down His 1:42.27 800m At 16 Years Old To Make History, Qualifies For The 2025 World Championships + Goals For TokyoWatch: USATF Championships Men's 800m final_____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Straight out of Bikini Bottom, Olipop's limited edition SpongeBob cans have arrived.
