Thornaby Football Club's committee is facing criticism after they announced that the Teeside-based club would be dropping all of its women's section. First team manager Abbey Lyle tells Clare McDonnell what this means for the women and girls in the club, the support they've received since, and what it says about grassroots women's sport. Clare also discusses the issues with Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, former Paralympian and Chair of Sport Wales and the CEO of Women in Sport, Stephanie Hilborne.Clare talks to the Canadian writer and social activist Naomi Klein about her book Doppelganger, now out in the UK in paperback. The book is a result of her being mistaken for another Naomi – Wolf, for years. Naomi Klein uses her doppelganger as a metaphor to explain many of the issues facing the modern world, from climate change and politics, to obsession with wellness and the ways we parent our children. British writer Lucy Foley began her career writing historical fiction before making an extremely successful switch to crime and thrillers, and with New York Times bestsellers The Paris Apartment and The Guest List under her belt, Lucy has sold more than five and half million books. She joins Clare to discuss her latest novel, The Midnight Feast, which takes place during the opening of a luxury wellness retreat and explores the clash between the insta-ready super-rich and some very disgruntled locals.Grammy-award winning American folk singer/songwriter Aoife O'Donovan has released three critically-acclaimed solo albums, is co-founder and front woman of the string band, Crooked Still, and is also one third of the all-female group I'm With Her. Her latest album, All My Friends, is inspired by the passage of the 19th amendment and the evolving landscape of women's rights in America over the past century. She joins Clare to discuss the themes and to perform live in the studio.Presented by Clare McDonnell Producer: Louise Corley
Rob Parsons reports from a sports hall in the town of Thornaby-on-Tees - where he's witnessed perhaps the only bright spot for Rishi Sunak in what was a miserable local and mayoral election night for his Conservative Party. The Tories look to be on course to lose 500 local election seats in what could be their worst showing in 40 years. They were thrashed in the Blackpool South by-election and even managed to lose the mayoral race in Rishi Sunak's backyard in North Yorkshire. But there was a silver lining in the form of Ben Houchen, described by many as the poster-boy for Conservatism in the North of England, who was re-elected mayor of the Tees Valley region but saw his majority over Labour dramatically cut, securing almost 82,000 votes compared with the 63,000 votes received by Labour's Chris McEwan. Rob hears directly from Lord Houchen after his victory and watches a remarkable confrontation between the mayor and one of his main critics, journalist Richard Brooks of Private Eye. There's also voice notes from local journalists Joseph Timan in Greater Manchester and Susan Newton at the Blackpool South by-election. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In our Jesus is _____ series we will get to hear exciting stories of how God is working in the lives of Teesside Vineyard. This week we will look at the story of Ric and Terry, for many years as a family they have served our Church and Thornaby. In this interview, we unpack Ric and Terry’s story of trust and obedience through ill health and uncertainty. ** Unfortunatley for some reason we couldnt record the questions (They are typed up below) ** Elijah: Please share with a quick 2minutes of how you met, where you married and how many people make up the Dudley clan?Elijah: Today is titled Jesus Is Healer. Please can you unpack why that statement might be so relevant to your strory?Elijah: A quick Q) What are your thoughts on if God can still heal today? Have you ever seen a person be miraculously healed?Elijah: Can you share with us about recent events? What happened, how did you feel and how did you manage to just trust during those times?Elijah: Ric you said something profound in the middle of this. You said "We want to set an example to our kids, that even in the middle of the storm, we want to be obedient and trust." Where does that faith and certainty come from? Can you explain thatElijah: What would you say to people today who are perhaps are wanting some sort of healing, or know people who do?

Teesside band Cattle & Cane are headlining this year’s Evolution Emerging and can’t wait to take centre stage. The pop-folk five-piece, from Thornaby, are going from strength to strength since releasing their debut album Home late last year. The album has been a real labour of love for the quintet - made up of siblings Joe, Helen, Fran and Vin Hammill plus friend Tom Chapman - as it has been five years in the making. However, it was well worth the wait.
