Our topic today is sleep disturbances, and studies consistently show an increased likelihood of sleep problems during the menopausal transition. There are different types of sleep disturbances with many causes but have you ever thought about Sleep Disordered breathing? Did you know for instance that in Menopause we are 2-3 times more likely to have sleep disordered breathing and in post menopause this rises to 6 x more likely. Sleep disordered breathing, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea negatively affects us, both mentally and physically and can also impact our long term health. The women's health concern tell us that obstructive sleep apnoea is not just about loud snoring and gasping. Sleep apnoea in women can also manifest itself in other ways including headaches, insomnia, depression or anxiety and daytime fatigue. Not every woman with OSA will snore or snort loudly whilst asleep. Our guest this week is passionate about spreading awareness of the importance of breathing well at night, and says that a huge ‘ 90% of women with sleep apnoea go undiagnosed'. Jo Ingleby has worked in Community, University and Hospital Services and general dental practice since graduating over 30 years ago and has been in the same general dental practice for over 26 years. Over the past 15 years she has developed her interest in dental sleep medicine,  making her first appliance for her very noisy snorer husband who she now no longer wants to throttle when he's asleep. Jo receives referrals from local dentists, sleep clinics, and referring specialists such as ENT consultants and has made hundreds of mandibular advancement appliances. Jo now tries to explore a patients individual risk factors and together they examine how to improve their breathing whilst asleep with options such as lifestyle, nasal breathing and mouth/ throat exercises. Jo earned the  Masterclass Certification from the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine in 2023 ,and teaches other dentists in how to identify and treat patients with sleep disordered breathing.  She is on the Board of the British Society of Dental Sleep medicine. In the Book Collective we continue with Caitlin Moran's, What About Men? We read  chapter 13 The Illnesses of Men – or, Why Men Won't Go to the Doctor. We look at how the gender pay gap has negatively affected men's health. I started this podcast because there was nothing out there when I was thrown into surgical menopause at the age of 39, which followed on from my cancer diagnosis aged 33.Through the episodes, I want to create more awareness, share information from our fabulous guest experts, doctors and other specialists in the cancer and menopause field. Episode Summary:In this episode we are interviewing Scottish artist Katie Paterson, on the occasion of the biggest iteration to date of Future Library project in Oslo, and one of her most political works to date, Requiem, which opened in Edinburgh in April. Katie explains: “I've always made artworks that deal with nature and time and climate, but this is the first that isn't afraid to be political and confrontational... It is both celebratory and mythical, and yet it is also the saddest work I've ever made, mourning life lost and expressing a dystopian vision.” Making a quiet and gestural artwork, Katie refers to herself as a whispering activist, calling for awareness of distance with nature. Requiem tells the birth and life of our planet in a single object – an object that uses dust gathered from material dating from pre-solar times to those of the present. Katie's visionary project Future Library is one of the best examples of how artist can contribute to global crisis. “A forest has been planted in Norway, which will supply paper for a special anthology of books to be printed in 100 years time. Between now and then, one writer every year will contribute a text, with the writings held in trust, unread and unpublished, until the year 2114. The manuscripts will be held in a specially designed room in the new public library, Oslo.”“The crisis is not imminent; the crisis is here” George MonbiotThe Speaker:Katie Paterson was born in Glasgow in 1981. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and the Slade School of Art, London, and is widely regarded as one of the leading artists of her generation working at the nexus of art and science. Recent and upcoming projects include solo exhibitions at the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; Turner Contemporary, Margate; NYLO, Reykjavik, and in June 2022 at Galleri F15 in Moss, Norway. Also in June, her 100-year artwork Future Library will celebrate the contributions of the last 3 writers to be commissioned and the opening of the Future Library room in the new Deichman Library in Oslo. A major new outdoor commission Mirage, for Apple's headquarters at Cupertino in California, will be unveiled later this year. Mark started surfing in the 60s and he is still doing it Consequently he has ridden most designs of surfboards through the years However he always kept a longboard for those small days even though the 70s and when the modern Malibu came out he was into it.  He was one of the founding members of the Woolgoolga Longboard club and is the father of Harley Ingleby,  most of you will know that he is a two-time world champion and is a very skilled surfer on any design of board.Mark started collecting surfboards in the late 70s and very early 80s because he realised that no one else was doing it and a lot of surf history was being lost and that the younger generation didn't have any idea of what had come before the thrusters that they were riding. Being a keen surfer means that you are always out in the natural environment which has led to Mark being involved in environmental defence, spending many years with the local community to stop the construction of an ocean outfall and achieve the creation of a marine National Park in the Coffs Coast area  He is still actively involved in environmental defence and believes that we should all actively do so. That way the next generations will still get to enjoy our sport the way we have.

Episode Description: In this latest episode, The Duchess travels to meet Lady Ingilby of the amazing Ripley Castle. Lady Emma Ingilby takes the Duchess on a tour through Ripley's fascinating history, Lady Ingilby explains what a priest hole is and why it was once very important in a Catholic home, we hear more chilling ghost stories, and the ladies discuss the sometimes isolating exclusivity of the ‘stately wives club.'   Have you ever watched Bridgerton, The Crown or Downton Abbey and wondered what it's really like to be a Duchess? If so, this is the podcast for you. Top Quotes: “Looking through history, you can't underestimate the women who kept the home fire burning, kept the house going, and everything together.” - Lady Ingilby  “The secret to a great British garden is: ‘does it make you happy.” - Lady Ingilby “The first thing when you look around a privately owned stately house is that you sense it's a living, breathing home.” - Lady Ingilby “This job isn't about money. It's about service.” - The Duchess of Rutland About the Guest and Stately Home: Lady Emma Ingilby grew up in Yorkshire and is the daughter of Major Richard A. Thompson. Emma married her husband Sir Thomas, 6th Baronet, in 1984 and the couple have five children together.  In 2009, the family celebrated 700 years living in Ripley Castle, that extraordinary achievement spans 28 generations and began with Sir Thomas Ingleby when he acquired the estate through his marriage with Edeline Thwenge. The dowry of which aided Edward III to build Windsor Castle. The Ingleby family boasts a catholic saint, a blood connection to 9 members of the Gunpowder Plot, and the family crest has a boar on it after Edward III was saved from one by a family member on the estate. Today Ripley Castle is one of Britain's most iconic historic houses, and tourists from around the world travel to see it's gardens, experience it's history, and marvel at its treasures.  About the Host: Emma Rutland, The Duchess of Rutland, did not always stride the halls of stately homes. Born Emma Watkins, the Duchess grew up the daughter of a Quaker farmer, in the Welsh marsh countryside. She trained as an opera singer in the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a successful interior designer before meeting her future husband David Manners, the 11th Duke of Rutland, at a dinner party. Their marriage in 1992 would transform Emma Watkins into the 11th Duchess of Rutland, thrusting her into the world of aristocracy, and handing her the responsibility of one of the nation's great treasures: Belvoir Castle. While simultaneously running the day to day operations of the castle, and raising five children, The Duchess became fascinated with the history and importance of the other stately homes of the UK. Join The Duchess as she embarks on a wonderful journey through time, to learn more about the incredible homes that have defined Great Britain and, most importantly, meet the other extraordinary women who work tirelessly behind their doors to preserve their history and magic for future generations.  Resources: https://www.belvoircastle.com/ (https://www.belvoircastle.com/) https://www.onefineplay.com/ (https://www.onefineplay.com/) https://www.ripleycastle.co.uk/ (https://www.ripleycastle.co.uk/) https://www.emmaduchessrutland.com/ (https://www.emmaduchessrutland.com/)

Ingleby walk 1. Things returned to normal a few days later, when Miss Watto and BananaSource went caching in Castleton & Edale.  Of the 18 caches done that weekend, BananaSource grabbed one or two (the memory fades).  For views the best cache of the weekend was ascent of Mam Tor by jammie dodger GC2W9M8). In Edale we found 17 caches - beating our previous daily record of 16.  The majority of the caches formed the Booth Loop series, by Paperballpark - 14 caches starting with BL #1: Nagging at the Head of the Trail GC588BN.  There were a lot of stunning views during the series, but the cache of note (for us at least) was BL #10: The Right to Roam GC588M8 - just as we thought we'd cracked the hiders style, this one surprised us. Lots of food prepared by the group of over 30 cachers on hand. No one left hungry. The building the meet and greet and eat was held in was build in 1936 as part of the WPA. It stands out in Kansas for two reasons. One, it is on top of the tallest hill for some distance. Two, it is a large stone building that looks like a castle! Now, for you living in England or Europe, a castle may be a common sight. But here in Kansas, it is not! Several caches are also located here. So all in attendance had a great time. If you find yourself in this area cache, please stop by and enjoy the park and grab some caches! PS-I typed this slowly in hopes Dr D will not have as much trouble reading it as he has some of my past postings! Poor choice of footwear.  Miss Watto lost her walking boots and suffered from having the wrong footwear. We were doing some walking out in Edale - an area which his hilly and muddy in places.  A pair of trainers weren't cutting it. In rugged terrain a consideration is something that will support your ankle.  In most other conditions something with a good tread and grip on the sole.  Climate may also play a factor.  In Edale, on that day, something that was reasonably water resistant was ideal.  But in hotter climates, you may want to consider something that lets your foot breath. Question for Doctor D.It is considered bad form to log a find on one of your own caches, because you can't find something you hid. However you can log an Attended log on events you host, because you attended an event you put on.The purpose of Earth Caches is to learn about geology.  Since I learned something about the geology when I placed my Earth Cache, can I claim a find on it?
