On-Location Interview with Chris Cheng, History Channel's Top Shot Season 4 Champion, from the 2025 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Chris is a self taught amateur turned pro after beating 17 competitors to win $100,000, the title of “Top Shot” and a pro shooting contract with Bass Pro Shops. He's worked in Silicon Valley for 15 years and is passionate about bringing new shooters into the gun community. Chris serves on both NRA and NSSF Outreach committees, and is on the board for Operation Blazing Sword and Pink Pistols, a pro-LGBT, pro-2A organization, as well as on the board for the Asian Pacific American Gun Owners Association known by their acronym APAGOA. APAGOA and Operation Blazing Sword submitted an amicus brief for an upcoming Supreme Court case (Ocean State Tactical vs Rhode Island) to challenge RI's AW and high capacity magazine ban. We also submitted an AB to the famous Bruen case. Chris is also in the process of writing a war novel about The Purple Heart Battalion, a group of courageous Americans of Japanese descent who volunteered from the incarceration camps to fight for our country. They are the most decorated unit in US military history. SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show) is an annual event held in Las Vegas, primarily for professionals in the firearms, ammunition, and outdoor industries. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) hosts this event, which is one of the largest trade shows of its kind, where manufacturers, dealers, and enthusiasts gather to showcase new products, network, and discuss industry trends. The show features everything from firearms and accessories to outdoor gear and survival tools, drawing thousands of attendees from around the world. Originally Aired 2.12.25

On the latest episode of TAG, we're joined by The History Channel's “Top Shot Season 4” Champion Chris Cheng: an openly gay, Asian American, civil rights advocate who left his career at Google to become a professional sports shooter – breaking every stereotype about the gun community in the process. We chat about his experience in the competition as a self-taught amateur not taken seriously. We delve into how the gun industry 10 years ago was not talking about suicide and treated it as inevitable, but has since shifted. We talk about the need for respectful, good faith conversations about gun safety, and Chris emphasizes how irresponsible it is not to get trained on how to use your firearm. Later in the episode, in another special edition of Siegel's Scope, Tufts University's Dr. Michael Siegel answers questions about the first-of-its-kind research and policy roadmap he and 97Percent just released via an excerpt from our 97Percent conference.Host: Mathew LittmanGuest: Chris ChengProducer: Ernesto ChavezvaldiviaExecutive Producer: Adria MárquezEditor: Stephanie Genuardi Cunnane
Ep 25: Chris Cheng is a media personality, strategic consultant, and civil rights advocate in the firearms community. He worked for Google from 2007-2012 in many capacities. In 2011, Cheng decided to try something wacky and audition for History Channel's Top Shot Season 4 shooting competition, having not one shooting award to his name, nor any formal shooting instruction. Cheng is History Channel's Top Shot Season 4 Champion -- he beat 17 professional marksmen and won a $100,000 cash prize, the title of "Top Shot," and a pro marksman contract with Bass Pro Shops. He left Google in June 2012 to pursue a career in the outdoor industry full time. He works closely with the National Rifle Association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation on the Outreach Advisory Council, and the California Rifle & Pistol Association on promoting the shooting sports and protecting our Second Amendment rights. He recently created some controversy as the cover model of Recoil Magazine and used the artwork to enter into the world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). In this 2 part episode Chris articulates his life and professional experience as gay Asian-American within the firearms community. He walks through his testimony in front of the U.S. Senate and his crusade to evolve the conversation around 2nd amendment rights and his frustration with the disproportionate amount of conversation between mass shootings as opposed to suicide and mental health. He hopes to bring awareness to both gun owners and non gun owners about how to have a different conversation and build community through the technology of NFTs. Our guest today is Chris Cheng. Chris is a self-taught competitive shooter and tech guy who beat out 17 competitors to become History Channel's Top Shot Season 4 Champion. Chris is a techno-nerd, an Asian-American and openly gay – single-handedly breaking the stereotype of the “average” American gun owner and Second Amendment Advocate. And, combining guns and tech, Chris recently created a groundbreaking NFT digital art auction along with RECOIL Magazine. 1) First of all, congratulations on your successful auction! How much did you raise and what organizations will benefit from the proceeds? 2) Second...what the heck is an NFT and how do you auction one off? 3) What lessons did you learn from this very first ever effort? 4) Do you have plans for another auction in the future?
Ever since the news broke that the "virus that shall not be named" had "allegedly" escaped from a lab in Wuhan, many Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have faced unfair treatment and outright racism, simply because of the way they look. Top Shot Season 4 winner Chris Cheng is here tonight to shed some light on the hostility facing Asian/Pacific Americans and what they can do to empower themselves against potential violence. We will also talk about his ongoing NFT auction for a digital RECOIL Magazine cover image. Want to support the podcast? Riding Shotgun With Charlie #074 Mike Hughes & Britt Lentz Next Level Training I met Mike & Britt at SHOT Show 2020 thanks to Klint Macro & Matt Mallory from Meet The Pressers. They said they’re great guys from Next Level Training and they needed to get in the stagecoach. You may have seen Mike Hughes from History Channel’s Top Shot Season 3. Before Next Level Training and SIRT pistols, Mike was a football player and a patent attorney who enjoyed competitive shooting. He spent a lot of time training and running his business, but having a family took over, and competitive shooting took a backseat. The SIRT (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger) pistol was Mike’s idea. It took a lot of work, effort, and research to make the pistols and assembly them, which is all done in Washington state. They’ve got a number of types of pistols, like a GLCOK 17/22, S&W M&P, SIG P320, and a bolt for the AR 15 platform. We did cover a little about the differences in intellectual property and functional features about making a training pistol that is similar to other pistols. Mike is a great person to cover that, being a former patient lawyer. Britt brings up Mike being on History Channel’s Top Shot and we talk about that process to get onto the show and some of the behind the scenes stories. Mike really likes how Top Shot brought firearms to a bigger and broader audience and put firearm ownership in a new light for people. He shares that Top Shot was unscripted. It was a long six weeks for Mike, but he shared his secret to success. Britt has a similar background to Mike. They played football against each other in college. They became best friends at birthing classes. Britt has been on board since the beginning of NLT. Mike shares one of his favorite and first moments on Top Shot. His first gun to shoot was a Smith & Wesson 500 against Cliff Walsh, a Grand Master with the USPSA. Mike & Britt were kind enough to give us a coupon code. If you use the code, “RSWC” at https://nextleveltraining.com/ you’ll save 10% on your purchase. Please let them know you saw them on RSWC! A SIRT pistol would be a great item to buy while we’re still in quarantine/lockdown/stay at home. So use RSWC in the coupon code and save 10%! Favorite quotes: Mike: “We’re talking about hard times, two or three years in, you basically fail. But we’re too stupid to realize it. We’re the walking dead for 9 months. ….in the end, you just keep at it. Pick up the battering ram and keep hitting the wall. ...Things are going pretty phenomenal now.” Mike: “From what I understand about reality shows, they’re scripted reality… Top Shot is not scripted.” Mike: “Achievement is kinda simple. You just understand the parameters, and what can go wrong, and you prepare like crazy. And you win. You succeed.” Mike: “It's like everything in life. Which is premised on relationships: respect, courtesy, being kind.” Next Level Training Website (Use RSWC for the coupon code!) https://nextleveltraining.com/ Next Level Training Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/NextLevelTrainingLLC/ Mike Hughes Top Shot Facebook Page/ https://www.facebook.com/MikeHughesTopShot/ Next Level Training Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nltsirt/ Top Shot: Trick It Up Clip https://youtu.be/Rd786i6qry4 Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters.
