Aaron Watson turned down Nashville at 22 — and spent the next 25 years proving he was right. In this deeply honest conversation, Aaron opens up about building one of country music's most successful independent careers without compromising his identity, his songwriting, or his family. He shares the real cost of chasing music for a living, surviving two vocal cord surgeries that nearly ended his career, and why becoming a father changed the way he measures success forever. This episode goes far beyond country music. It's about resilience, reinvention, creative obsession, faith, and learning what actually matters after decades in the spotlight. Aaron talks candidly about grief, losing a daughter, turning down opportunities most artists would kill for, and the dangerous freedom that comes when you stop caring about fame. We also dive into songwriting, social media, legacy, independent artistry, and the mindset that's fueling what he believes may become the best chapter of his career.

In Episode 291 of Outside The Round, host Matt Burrill sits down with Texas legend Aaron Watson to talk about his massive new album A Horse Named Texas and the next chapter of a career that's still gaining momentum nearly 30 years in. Aaron dives into the creation of the 25-song project, his five-year plan to release even more music, and what it means to truly “go for broke” at this stage of his life and career. He reflects on vocal cord surgery, returning stronger than ever, and why he feels more motivated now than ever before. The conversation also highlights his growing online presence with his Tailgate Talks series on social media, where he's been connecting with fans and even playfully engaging with the next wave of artists. Aaron opens up about watching his son Jake come up as a songwriter and artist, and how being able to mentor him in ways he didn't have early in his own career has been especially meaningful. From stories about growing up on Waylon and Willie with his dad, to building a career rooted in songwriting, live shows, and authenticity, Aaron shares hard-earned wisdom on staying true to yourself, chasing great songs, and building a legacy that goes far beyond awards. In this episode of Mornings in D Minor, hosts Dru Stewart and Shane Minor looked back on their broadcast from the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. They were joined by two legends of the rodeo world: Ryan Growney, General Manager of the South Point, and Hall of Fame announcer Jeff Medders. The group dove into the high-energy atmosphere of last year's World Series of Team Roping. They shared an incredible story about an impromptu, late-night performance by country music icon Wynonna Judd, who joined Aaron Watson on stage after a sold-out show. The conversation also shifted to the logistical marvels required behind the scenes. The guests detailed the rigorous health and safety protocols that were in place for the 3,500 horses on-site and the scientific precision used to manage the world-class arena dirt. Jeff and Ryan also shared their personal journeys in the industry, reflecting on Jeff's transition from sports broadcasting to rodeo and Ryan's path to becoming one of the youngest GMs on the Vegas Strip. The episode concluded with a look at the "cowboy culture" that defined that week in Vegas and a recap of the massive Riata Horse Sale.

His star continued to rise, and even more bookings rolled in with Miller opening for Brooks & Dunn, Jamey Johnson, King Calaway, and Aaron Watson in 2022. Additionally, he shared the stage with Diamond Rio and Sawyer Brown and debuted at the popular Wild Rose Casinos in Iowa. Miller performed at State Fairs in Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, and West Virginia, plus County Fairs in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Alex also partnered with CMR Nashville, Europe's #1 Country Music Radio Station, to host a curated monthly radio show called MILLER TIME - a fun, inside look at Miller's inventive mind. Closing out a spectacular year, he received the American FFA Degree for excellence, the organization's highest accolade. Timmy McKeever, growing up in Huntingon, California McKeever started his musical journey at age nine after hearing his third grade teacher play worship songs after class. That intrigued young Timmy so much that he picked up a beginner guitar they had lying around the house and started playing around. From there it blossomed into writing music and playing shows. “My whole childhood I would play 2-3 shows during the weekend and go to school during the week. Write music after class. I just fell in love with it” he shares. McKeever got offered a development deal with Jim Cantino over at Droptine Records. McKeever just released his debut album “Devils and Angels”, and it's been getting good feedback. “Devils in Angels is an album that follows all the aspects of love from the beginning to the end and the aftermath. All the highs and lows and in betweens. It's very personal to me because the title track was the first song I ever wrote where I thought this is something really special to me.” He adds that he saved the song for the past two years because he wanted it as the title track of his debut project. On this bonus episode of Jesus Listens: Stories of Prayer, we're talking to country music singer/songwriter Aaron Watson, who shares how an injury to his vocal chords necessitated a need for him to come off the road and rest his voice–with no guarantees that his voice would return. Aaron tells us how scary it was to consider that he may not sing again, but how he chose to trust that God would provide for him, and how he was motivated to tell others about God's grace in a new way.
