Scannán grinn rómánsúil Meiriceánach 1982 é Tootsie faoi stiúir Sydney Pollack agus Dustin Hoffman ar an stáitse. Michael Dorsey is a respected actor, but nobody in New York wants to hire him because he is a perfectionist and difficult to work with. Is aisteoir mór le rá é Michael Dorsey, ach níl aon duine i Nua Eabhrac ag iarraidh é a fhostú toisc gur foirfeachtóir é agus go bhfuil sé deacair oibriú leis. After many months without a job, Michael hears of an opening on the popular daytime soap opera Southwest General from his friend and acting student Sandy Lester, who tries out for the role of hospital administrator Emily Kimberly. Tar éis míonna fada gan post, éisteann Michael le hoscailt ar an gceoldráma gallúnach tóir i rith an lae Southwest General óna chara agus an mac léinn gníomhach Sandy Lester, a bhaineann triail as ról riarthóir an ospidéil Emily Kimberly. In desperation, he impersonates a woman, auditioning as "Dorothy Michaels", and gets the part. In éadóchas, déanann sé aithris ar bhean, ag éisteacht mar "Dorothy Michaels", agus faigheann sé an pháirt. Michael takes the job as a way to raise $8,000 to produce a play by his roommate Jeff Slater, which will star himself and Sandy. Glacann Michael an post mar bhealach chun $ 8,000 a chruinniú chun dráma a léiriú ag a chomrádaí seomra Jeff Slater, a mbeidh réalta air féin agus ar Sandy. Michael plays Emily as a feisty feminist, which surprises the other actors and the crew, who expected her to be (as written) another swooning female. Imríonn Michael Emily mar fheimineach feimineach, rud a chuireann iontas ar na haisteoirí eile agus ar an gcriú, a bhí ag súil go mbeadh sí (mar a scríobhadh) ina bean eile atá ag cúlú. His character quickly becomes a national sensation. Éiríonn a charachtar le mothú náisiúnta go gasta. When Sandy catches Michael in her bedroom half undressed because he wants to try on her clothes for ideas for Dorothys wardrobe, he covers up by claiming he wants to have sex with her. Nuair a ghlacann Sandy Michael ina sheomra leapa leathchosanta toisc go bhfuil sé ag iarraidh triail a bhaint as a chuid éadaí le haghaidh smaointe do wardrobe Dorothy, clúdaíonn sé trí éileamh a dhéanamh go bhfuil sé ag iarraidh gnéas a bheith aici léi. Exacerbating matters further, he is attracted to one of his co-stars, Julie Nichols, a single mother in an unhealthy relationship with the shows amoral, sexist director, Ron Carlisle. Ag dul in olcas cúrsaí níos mó, mealltar é chuig duine dá chomh-réaltaí, Julie Nichols, máthair shingil i gcaidreamh míshláintiúil le stiúrthóir amaitéarach, sexist an seó, Ron Carlisle. At a party, when Michael (as himself) approaches Julie with a pick-up line to which she had previously told Dorothy she would be receptive, she throws a drink in his face. Ag cóisir, nuair a théann Michael (mar é féin) chuig Julie le líne bailithe a dúirt sí léi le Dorothy roimhe seo go mbeadh sí fáilteach, caitheann sí deoch ina aghaidh. Later, as Dorothy, when he makes tentative advances, Julie—having just ended her relationship with Ron per Dorothys advice—makes it known that she is not a lesbian. Níos déanaí, mar Dorothy, nuair a dhéanann sé dul chun cinn trialach, cuireann Julie - tar éis deireadh a chur lena caidreamh le comhairle Ron de réir Dorothy - ar an eolas nach leispiach í. Meanwhile, Dorothy has her own admirers to contend with: older cast member John Van Horn and Julies widowed father, Les. Idir an dá linn, tá meas mór ag Dorothy uirthi féin chun dul i gcomórtas leis: an ball teilgthe níos sine John Van Horn agus athair baintreach Julie, Les.   Hi friends! I’m so excited for today’s episode because I’m chatting with Sandy J. Green about quite a few things I wish I would have known for our first pregnancy and postpartum experience. She’s so knowledgeable and I really enjoyed our converstaion. We’re discussing some new mom topics, like: - Exclusive pumping and tips for low supply - Viewing breastfeeding and pumping through a lens of self care (and not the Instagram kind of “self care”) - Favorite books/resources - What a postpartum doula does - And so much more I wanted to note here that I understand this this topic is pretty niche and if it’s not your thing, I totally get it! Before we had babies, I would have loved to have access to this type of info to store in my brain for access later on. Also, I wanted to tell my friends out there who are on their fertility journey or have experienced miscarriages: I’m sending you my love and the biggest virtual hug. Here’s a little bit more about Sandy: Sandy J. Green is a breast pump expert, a maternal health advocate and she exclusively pumped for both of her babies. When Sandy had her son, Avi, over 3 years ago, she knew nothing about pumping and hoped to breastfeed. It started off pretty well but when Avi was around 12 weeks, he stopped gaining weight. It turned out he had a tongue tie and the procedure to fix it didn’t help the feeding issues. Sandy wasn’t ready to stop breastfeeding, so she turned to exclusive pumping. Once Sandy could see how many ounces Avi was getting, he started to gain weight which was great. But in a lot of ways, life didn’t get easier for her and she was plagued with feelings of doubt, anxiety and failure for pumping instead of nursing.  She found great resources online for all tips and tricks of pumping, but her mental and emotional health was in decline. She realized that she needed to take that emotional aspect of pumping into her own hands and started diving into meditation, exercise, and mindfulness among other things. Simply put - Sandy started to take care of herself and make her needs a priority. Sandy became a Certified Lactation Counselor and Postpartum Doula so that she could help other moms to feel better about pumping, too! And now, her goal is simple - that all moms have the knowledge, confidence, and pride to make infant-feeding decisions that work best for their baby, their family, and themselves. When Sandy Krot suggested that listening might solve the world's problems I sat up and took notice. Really? Solve the world's problems? Sandy is no pushover. She works with high-flying businesses, supported companies in overcoming intractable problems and has co-authored a best-selling book (Invisible Power). When Sandy suggested that something as simple as listening might solve the world's problems, I felt goose-bumps. I've thought this myself, but then tell myself off for being so naive.Surely it'd take more than listening to make a difference on a big scale? But what if she's right? What if listening holds the power to move beyond conflict and differing opinions and what if listening is what is needed to access fresh, new and creative thinking? In this podcast interview we explore how: - The single most important area for leaders to improve is listening - Most people are only listening to the voice in their head and not the other person - We all have the capacity to listen for others. - Listening might solve the problems in the world You can find out more about Sandy and her work here https://insightprinciples.com Want to become a Wellbeing Listener - Discover more with Inner Compass Guide CIC

In this week's episode with Sandy McDonald we talk about the stories of hope, inspiration and connection that we all have. Sandy shares her story from almost bankrupt to creating a world wide movement that has helped 10s of thousands of children in Sth Africa. When Sandy started knitting squares for her Aunt in Sth Africa she never realised the difference she would make and the stories that she would become a custodian of. The international charity that Sandy started continues today without Sandy at the helm but in the very capable hands of a community of knitters around the world.Sandy took her experience and decided to re-write her own story to become the wise woman that she is today. In this conversation Sandy shares:why it is important not to define yourself by a label (job title, mother, wife, daughter etc) rather to see these as experiences, as part of your body of knowledgehow writing your story is a way of unpacking the value that you bring to the worldHer most important message was that your stories don't define your value, you don't need validation from others because your experience is your value. In 2014 Sandy presented at TedX Melbourne where she shared her story, if you would like to watch the video click HEREYou can learn more about the work that Sandy does via her website - http://sandymcdonald.com/

Hey friends, Bruce here from Better Each Day Land on February 27th, 2020. In this episode we’re going to go back in time to 1976 when I had the honor of working with Amberain, a band comprised of the guy who engineered and mixed these recordings, my brother Gary Hilliard...and Steve Tobeck, Rick Fry, Rich Tippet, brothers Dick and Sandy Murchy, and yours truly. (http://bettereachday.me/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/31490024_163542564313505_1205284066547466240_n.jpg) And this is a special Happy Birthday Hallmark card to Sandy, the best vocalist ever and my best bud since kindergarten at the University of Alexander Young Elementary School in Aberdeen Washington. Once again, there has been an unbelievably good audience response with prior episodes that featured songs from Amberain and the 70s Aberdeen music scene. Probably because so many of my listeners were there and enjoyed a really super cool era for music….and the old photos are amber with time, and most likely taken in the rain.  The songs we’re about to hear were written largely by Dick Murchy. I use the term “largely” because the first song, Buffalo Gunn (yes two "n's"), was written and ready to go as an instrumental but younger brother Sandy said “no way man, I’ve got words and a melody to add to the beginning.” When Sandy said he had a vocal to add, we shut up and listened, he sang, and it was all over. Steve plays some really tasty bass licks in here too. It makes me think of a road trip on a hot summer day. But I’m almost positive we recorded it on an overcast misty night. That goes to show what good actors musicians need to be sometimes. (http://bettereachday.me/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Rockles-Wishkah-e1579570630367.jpg) The second song, Hear Me Calling/Jaime, correct me if I’m wrong...anyone...was again, written by Dick and enhanced by Sandy. I remember Dick and Sandy working on the second half of the song, where they bounce back and forth with the lead vocal, a cappella in a car, in the parking lot of Swanson’s Supermarket on Simpson AV. My vocal part, throughout the entire song, was “OOOO”. I had the bottom part of a three-part two seconds of an “OOOO.” It takes place about half way through the Dick and Sandy section. Don’t miss it. Again, Sandy took the opening section of the song and killed it. From a rental house on 2nd Street in Aberdeen...here’s Amberain with Hear Me Calling/Jaime. Thank you all for listening. Please chime in with comments, suggestions or anything to show you’re alive.  And Sandy, I won’t mention your age but I’ve known you since we were five and that was fifty-nine years ago. I feel like I’ve known you my whole life.

Renee Klein's story begins with her sister, Sandy. When Sandy was just 2.5 years old she was hypersensitive to people and things in her environment, and her family knew she was atypical for her age. At 8 years old, Sandy had a psychotic break and her family's lives would never be the same. Renee shares how the struggles of a family member very much affects the entire family and their group of friends. Her family turned that challenge into something good in bringing awareness and action to help support other families dealing with mental illness by working with NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the housingtaskforce.org (http://housingtaskforce.org/) as well as supporting the genetic research with the Prechter Family Fund. Renee has made it her life mission to share her family's story to bring light to a sometimes dark subject and show compassion to everyone she meets - because you never know what someone is going through.

The Style That Binds Us
Interview with the iconic makeup artist, Sandy Linter, who can count Jackie'O as a client

The Style That Binds Us

We were so pleased to interview the iconic makeup artist, Sandy Linter at Rita Hazan salon. Sandy has worked as a makeup artist since the 70s and was 1 of 5 MUAs in the city, which today there are millions it seems! She has worked with the top magazines, editors, celebrities, models, influencers & photographers in the industry. She can count Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Barbara Walters, Brooke Shields, Christie Brinkley, Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant and many more incredible people as clients.  She perfected her disco beauty look from her Studio 54 days.  She grew up on Staten Island & moved to NYC as soon as she could. Sandy loves makeup because it brings out the best of beauty in women. Her mom got subscriptions to all the high-fashion magazines. Her mom loved makeup, but didn't know what to do with it. When Sandy would look through the magazines, she could look at the makeup and figure out how to achieve the look in the magazine. Sandy did her mother's makeup before she went to work.  After working as a secretary, Sandy went to work at Mr. Kenneth's salon. His clientele was the "who's who" of New York City. He did every society woman, major editors of magazines, models & actresses. He had a small booth in Bloomingdales.  Sandy shares a story of working with Jackie'O. The next time she did her makeup, she did big smoky eyes. Jackie ended up buying all the products from the face chart.   Sandy did one of the Vogue editor's makeup who then wrote a 2 page article feature on her in Vogue. After that, she was working with Vogue.  The most iconic shoot Sandy worked on was a shoot for Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine where Debbie Harry was on the cover.  Studio 54: what was it like getting ready, what did you wear, what was the music like, what was the feeling there? Sandy was friends with hairdressers who would come over each night and do her hair, she would do her makeup and they would style her, so of course, she had to go out. In those days, you could get into a cab and say, "take me to Studio" and they knew where to go. Typical day: be on a shoot all day and go out at night. Sandy could go to work the next morning with her Studio54 outfit on. Makeup artists need to adapt to the current trends. If there is something you love that is "out of style," it'll come back at some point, so don't worry. Your clients know what is "in" and what is "out," so you have to know as well.   Sandy has done makeup for a fashion show and she was the only makeup artist for the whole show.  Advice for an aspiring makeup artist: work with a company or salon, don't just work as a freelancer.   Sandy is the author of 2 books. "Makeup Wakeup" & "Disco Beauty". For the first 30 years of Sandy's career, she made up women in their 20s. Then, Sandy started working with women older than that and she found they related to her. It is a great book if you'd like to update your makeup look. Even if you've gotten injectables, it is still important to wear makeup. Less is less.  Disco Beauty was a labor of love book. She would be booked during the day with the best photographers & models and at the end of the day they would do a shoot for the book. Makeup artists tell her now this book is their bible. Working with.... Goldie Hawn - Sandy did a natural look on her as most girls who come from L.A. do. Elizabeth Hurley - She is naturally funny Helmut Newton - they worked on a shoot with Patti Hansen together. Sandy serendipitously came upon the person who represented Helmut.  Arthur Elgort - Sandy worked with him when working for Vogue. You can't tell the models are working in his photographs. They are almost unaware he is taking the picture.  Richard Avedon -  One shoot was with Jerry Hall. He was good looking, but had a short temper.  Gra --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/delia-folk8/support
