It's been inspiring to see our friends in the LGBTQ+ community celebrate and be celebrated during Pride Month.Though, I must say I long for the day when we don't need a specific month to acknowledge the humanity of those who are marginalized. No matter who we love, what our race, how we pray or how we identify, we matter. We are human. We belong. But until that day, I am grateful for each month that shines a spotlight on stories too often overlooked.Stories that teach us and show us the full, beautiful complexity of what makes us human. An Unlikely Story UnfoldsAs Pride Month 2023 wraps up, I was reminded of a delightful and enlightening conversation I had with two men determined to figure out how to belong, not just fit in.Chih Lin's posts on LinkedIn caught my attention a couple of years ago. So, I reached out and before I knew it, I was interviewing him and his husband, Michael Dorsey. My first question: What on earth possessed two engineers to ditch their corporate jobs in oil and gas, take a leap of faith and launch a business making dumplings? And from there, the unlikely story unfolds, taking us along on their quest to simply be who they are.To stop twisting themselves into knots, just to fit in.What would it feel like to truly belong?Because they took that leap of faith, now they know.www.ourvoicesmatterpodcast.comwww.lorellemedia.comThis podcast is devoted to empowering us all to better understand each other's differences...one story at a time.  Emmy Award-winning journalist, Linda Lorelle, guides guests through insightful, unexpected conversations that reveal our common humanity.  This show is not about politics per se; it is about finding a way to reclaim civility in the context of the contentious times in which we live, by sharing our personal and professional stories, in hopes that others might find a glimpse of themselves.Support the show

Forty years ago, Sydney Pollack directed one of the most acclaimed and most successful comedies of all time with this gender-bending sorta-romantic comedy starring Dustin Hoffman as Michael Dorsey.  Dorsey is an unemployed actor who suddenly finds success disguised as Dorothy Michaels, a suddenly successful actress who becomes of the leads of a popular daytime soap opera.  Jessica Lange plays Julie, her co-star whom Michael falls in love with, Charles Durning plays Julie's father Les who falls in love with Dorothy....and hilarity ensues!  The stellar cast also includes Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Geena Davis, and Bill Murray.Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The co-executive producer and showrunner of Ghost Adventures: House Calls, Michael Dorsey, has made a career out of documenting compelling stories for TV and film. Over the years he's become known for his expertise on the "unsolved" murder of Biggie Smalls having produced multiple projects about the case. On this episode of A Study of Strange, Dorsey shares his insight and opinion about who killed Biggie and why there have been no arrests.   On March 9th, 1997, in Los Angeles CA, superstar music artist Biggie Smalls, aka the Notorious B.I.G., was shot at an after party near the Peterson Automotive Museum. The assailant pulled up along side Biggie in a Chevrolet Impala and attacked. Biggie was rushed to the hospital but passed away shortly after arriving. He was only 24 years old.  This came just 6 months after rival rapper, Tupac Shakur, was also shot and killed. Many speculate the murders were connected. No suspect has ever been arrested for Biggie's murder despite the fact that many consider the case solved. Therein lies where the case takes a strange turn. The murder of Biggie Smalls is shrouded in conspiracy theories and rumors. Rumors of gang violence, business rivalries, police corruption, and vengeance. The truth may lie somewhere in the middle. Co-founders Andreas Parsley & Jason Wright has teamed up with Michael Dorsey and a cohort of Black creatives and designers to create LiveWaves, an easy-to-use simple social network platform that allows users to monetize their live streams and communicate with followers, minus the bombardment of ads or having your data collected and sold. LiveWaves looks to provide buoyancy for millions of creatives in an industry whose negative impact from COVID is eclipsed only by the restaurant and hospitality business. The app serves as an all-in-one solution for users, providing the ability to schedule both pay-per-view virtual events and free events with a tip option that lets fans support artists without leaving the app. Users also have the option to set pricing and limit event tickets as they see fit. The evolution of LiveWaves has been decade-long labor of love for co-founders Parsley and Wright, former college football teammates turned business partners who created a similar app to LiveWaves called Club2Nite back in 2012. Their journey has been a constant battle against doubt from an industry that has shown little respect and funding for many Black developers. This doubt continued to fuel the fire for Parsley and Wright, as they stayed prayerful and became consistent in improving the technology in their app to ensure distinction to their product as revolutionary in how social media is looked at today. “We had ideas and features on our app and website back in 2012, that platforms are just now using, we were truly ahead of our time and people just didn't see the vision, says Wright. Tootsie est un film de comédie romantique américaine de 1982 réalisé par Sydney Pollack et avec Dustin Hoffman. Michael Dorsey is a respected actor, but nobody in New York wants to hire him because he is a perfectionist and difficult to work with. Michael Dorsey est un acteur respecté, mais personne à New York ne veut l'embaucher parce qu'il est perfectionniste et difficile à travailler. After many months without a job, Michael hears of an opening on the popular daytime soap opera Southwest General from his friend and acting student Sandy Lester, who tries out for the role of hospital administrator Emily Kimberly. Après plusieurs mois sans emploi, Michael entend parler d'une ouverture sur le feuilleton populaire de jour Southwest General de son amie et étudiante par intérim Sandy Lester, qui essaie de jouer le rôle d'administrateur de l'hôpital Emily Kimberly. In desperation, he impersonates a woman, auditioning as "Dorothy Michaels", and gets the part. En désespoir de cause, il se fait passer pour une femme, auditionnant comme "Dorothy Michaels", et obtient le rôle. Michael takes the job as a way to raise $8,000 to produce a play by his roommate Jeff Slater, which will star himself and Sandy. Michael prend le travail comme un moyen d'amasser 8 000 $ pour produire une pièce de son colocataire Jeff Slater, qui jouera lui-même et Sandy. Michael plays Emily as a feisty feminist, which surprises the other actors and the crew, who expected her to be (as written) another swooning female. Michael joue Emily comme une féministe fougueuse, ce qui surprend les autres acteurs et l'équipe, qui s'attendaient à ce qu'elle soit (comme écrit) une autre femme pâmée. His character quickly becomes a national sensation. Son personnage devient rapidement une sensation nationale. When Sandy catches Michael in her bedroom half undressed because he wants to try on her clothes for ideas for Dorothys wardrobe, he covers up by claiming he wants to have sex with her. Quand Sandy surprend Michael dans sa chambre à moitié déshabillé parce qu'il veut essayer ses vêtements pour trouver des idées pour la garde-robe de Dorothy, il se couvre en prétendant qu'il veut coucher avec elle. Exacerbating matters further, he is attracted to one of his co-stars, Julie Nichols, a single mother in an unhealthy relationship with the shows amoral, sexist director, Ron Carlisle. Pour aggraver encore les choses, il est attiré par l'une de ses co-stars, Julie Nichols, une mère célibataire dans une relation malsaine avec le réalisateur amoral et sexiste de l'émission, Ron Carlisle. At a party, when Michael (as himself) approaches Julie with a pick-up line to which she had previously told Dorothy she would be receptive, she throws a drink in his face. Lors d'une fête, lorsque Michael (comme lui-même) s'approche de Julie avec une file d'attente à laquelle elle avait précédemment dit à Dorothy qu'elle serait réceptive, elle lui jette un verre au visage. Later, as Dorothy, when he makes tentative advances, Julie—having just ended her relationship with Ron per Dorothys advice—makes it known that she is not a lesbian. Meanwhile, Dorothy has her own admirers to contend with: older cast member John Van Horn and Julies widowed father, Les. The show was a big hit and then it quickly lost its advertising. Doctors were complaining that the diets and physical exercise was unhealthy and false in its presentation to the public. Previous contestants spoke out about the misrepresentation, and other contestants were shamed in public for gaining the weight back. It got ugly. The 11th episode of the Chefpreneur podcast begins with Chef Andres’ Q&A segment. He answers a question from Michael Dorsey who DM’d him a couple of questions. Michael wanted to know how Chef Andres found his first client. Andres has a profile on Thumbtack.com and he was able to get his first client through that marketing vehicle. Andres’ response was full of helpful hints so listen to the podcast to hear more. On this week’s podcast, Chef Andres shared some of the awesome experiences he has had while working as a personal chef. A particular client Chef Andres talks about contacted him to do a bachelorette party. The client Googled “Chefs in San Diego” and found Chef Andres. Andres sent her a menu after they spoke over the phone. The client ended up going with another chef, but he sent her a follow-up thank you note telling the client that he greatly appreciated the fact that she contacted him and wished them the best during their event. Several weeks later, Chef Andres received another inquiry from a different lady. This client requested a dinner party for 8 of her friends. Chef Andres sent her the menu, but he also asked how the client heard about his business. She told him that her daughter (from the bachelorette party) gave her the referral. Even though Chef Andres was not hired for the bachelorette party, he was still hired for the current event based on the referral from her daughter. On the day of the event, Chef Andres shows up to the house and was overwhelmed by its vastness … the house took his breath away! You’ve got to listen to the podcast to hear about more of his experience. Stay tuned each week as Chef Andres guides listeners through the process of becoming personal chefs. The Chefpreneur FaceBook Group was created to give you the support you need to follow your dreams. It won’t be easy (It can be overwhelming at times), but it will be well worth it. Chef Andres is hard at work perfecting the Chefpreneur program so that you will have all the tools you need to get started at your fingertips. The program is coming soon, but in the meantime, work on naming your business, getting licensed, and all the other items discussed in the Chefpreneur e-book.
