The Pilates Lounge Episode explores menopause's impact on women's health. Angela Counsel, a naturopath, kinesiologist, and mindset coach, joins Katie Crane for an insightful discussion. Angela explains menopause as starting the day after 12 months without a period, emphasizing its individuality and transition duration. She discusses hormonal shifts during menopause, focusing on progesterone and estrogen decline and related symptoms. Tailored health strategies based on genetic profiles are crucial. Stress impacts weight management and hormone balance significantly during menopause. Chronic stress can overload adrenal glands, affecting hormone production. Building muscle is vital as women age, with tailored exercise intensity. Quality sleep aids muscle recovery and hormone regulation. Crafting a personalized exercise and nutrition plan is key. Takeaways Menopause is the day when a woman hasn't had a period for 12 months, but the transition leading up to menopause can take many years and varies for each individual. Hormonal changes during menopause include the decline of progesterone and estrogen, which can lead to symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood swings, and unexplained weight gain. Personalized health approaches based on individual genetic profiles can help women navigate menopause and make informed choices about their diet, exercise, and lifestyle. Understanding and embracing the changes that occur during menopause can empower women to take control of their health and well-being during this stage of life. Chronic stress can hinder weight loss by increasing cortisol levels and promoting fat storage. During menopause, the adrenal glands take over hormone production, but chronic stress can disrupt this process. Building muscle is important for women as they age, but the type and intensity of exercise should be tailored to individual health types. Sleep plays a crucial role in muscle repair and hormone production. Embracing one's unique body type and lifestyle is key to finding the right exercise and nutrition regimen. Understanding and embracing the changes that occur during menopause can empower women to take control of their health and well-being during this stage of life. Today on Feminine Roadmap: Menopause: You're not Broken, You're Beautifully Designed with Angela Counsel. Naturopath and Menopause coach Angela Counsel returns to Feminine Roadmap to share her passion to support women through their menopause transition in a way that feels good for them. Each woman's menopause journey is like a thumbprint so each woman will experience it differently so one size does not fit all when it comes to dealing with it. Angela wants to help women change the attitude and conversation around this natural, biological transition that all women will go through. Traditionally we have been taught to keep quiet about our bodies, our cycles, and our symptoms which is amplified by the general lack of knowledge in the medical community. Many women who struggle are told it's all a “normal” part of aging and that they just need to tough it out. This attitude can cause women to feel shame, like they are being punished for being a woman. It can create a feeling that our bodies are broken, that there's something wrong. The truth is that we are not broken, we are beautifully designed to go through this change and there are ways that we can navigate it with more ease and even enjoy it. Angela helps women understand their biology, their thumbprint, so that they can begin to work with their design instead of following the one size fits all approach that is so prevalent today. As you begin to understand who you are, how your body works and what it needs, you can step into the glory of your unique design. Menopause is not the end, it's a new beginning, a pathway to a whole new life. If this resonates with you, grab a cuppa something wonderful and grab a menopausal sister and have a listen. This conversation is empowering, uplifting and eye-opening- please share it with your lady friends and let's change the way we think, see and talk about this topic that affects each of us. It's time to embrace this season together. https://angelacounsel.com/This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4127929/advertisement
In this episode, Bernadette interviews Angela Counsel, a leading naturopath and menopause medical coach, on the topic of menopause. Angela emphasises that menopause symptoms are not always the sole cause of discomfort in women during this stage. Instead, menopause can bring underlying issues to the surface because the hormones that once provided a protective barrier are now decreasing. Angela offers practical advice to help women navigate menopause with ease and highlights the importance of embracing this time as an opportunity for personal growth. “We blame a lot of things on menopause. It's not always menopause. Quite often there's something else going on, but what's happened is menopause has brought these things up because our hormones are messengers and they are protective, and so they give us a protection, which means that we can get away with a few things in our younger years. Then as we lose the protection, the things that we haven't been doing quite so well for our body starts to come out.” -Angela Counsel EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: 00:00 Intro 01:00 Who is Angela Counsel? 03:52 Menopause Symptoms 09:08 Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) 12:25 What is Bio-identical or Body Identical Hormones? 15:52 The four stages of menopause 17:24 When does Menopause occur? 18:58 Angela Counsel's 10 Week Program 21:09 Six health types 26:17 Angela's Free 5 days online workshop Resources The School Of Renovating https://www.theschoolofrenovating.com/ Free 5 Days Online Workshop https://angelacounsel.com/register_7dhr/ Menopause Conversations https://angelacounsel.respond.ontraport.net/meno_podcast_pg11 Connect with The School of Renovating ASK BERNADETTE https://www.theschoolofrenovating.com/podcasts-page Subscribe to She Renovates Apple Podcast https://apple.co/3faoWlT Subscribe to Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheSchoolOfRenovating Follow on Twitter https://twitter.com/renovatingsc Follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/the_school_of_renovating
Is there a connection between stress and menopause? In this episode, I talk with Angel Counsel, a Leading Naturopath and Menopause Coach. She believes that when women understand what's happening with their hormones, they don't have to be afraid and they can make better decisions. Takeaways: In menopause, the messages between the brain and the ovaries start to shut down. The brain switches its connection from the brain to the adrenal glands, and the stress hormones from the adrenals get mixed up. Menopause is a transition out of reproductive age. It is not normal to have symptoms. Women should listen to their bodies and take care of their own health, not rely on pills to solve their problems Connect with Angela: https://angelacounsel.com/speaking/ Bio: Angela Counsel is a Leading Naturopath and Menopause Coach who guides women to embrace the changes that are happening to their bodies as they move through their menopause transition. Today on Feminine Roadmap guest Angela Counsel drops some amazing insight on how to thrive in menopause. Angela is a naturopath and health coach who is passionate about showing women how they can thrive in their menopause years. She addresses health from a physical, mental and spiritual point of view to bring a holistic perspective to the change of life. As women we have been taught through media and cultural mindset what is “normal”, to fear menopause, to feel as if we are losing our womanhood, and many other things. Angela brings a healthier, more empowered mindset around what women have experienced through the millenia. Perimenopause and menopause are natural functions of the female experience that our bodies are naturally designed to go through. As women begin to question the stories we've been told about our own bodies change of life, then we can forge a new path. If you or someone you know is feeling that change coming or you're already in the midst of it, Angela has a message of hope for you. I encourage you to grab a cuppa something wonderful and a good friend to listen to this power packed conversation.
It's a VERY good day when a business owner you've been cheering on hits that magical 6-figure mark! And naturopath and menopause expert Angela Counsel has an AMAZING story about her journey to that awesome milestone (including how she almost gave up right before she had her BIGGEST breakthrough!). When Angela Counsel joined the HerBusiness Network, she gave herself and her new business “one year.” She was, in her words, going to either “fold or fly.” At the time, she struggled to make even $10,000 - $20,000 revenue per year selling her courses aimed at helping women thrive in Menopause. When the opportunity to take part in the 30-Day Mastermind Experience program came up, she grabbed it with both hands… During those 30 days, she got her marketing strategy dialled in and had a BIG a-ha! about a big mistake she was making with her approach. Based on those solid foundations, she went on to transform her results, filling her high-dollar embrace program and hitting that magical $100,000 milestone! Angela completely overhauled her business and marketing approach to have a massive breakthrough with an EXISTING program she had that wasn't performing. And the results were truly incredible. She went from getting 3 or 4 people each time she ran the program to 40 people! It was a total TRANSFORMATION and a real thrill to see her do so well. In this episode, we speak with Angela and discover: How Angela blew past her goal to reach 1,000 women to grow an email list of 7,000 What she's outsourcing so that she can focus on her clients. Angela's shift from ‘chasing everything' to doing things ‘with a purpose'. Recently I was a guest on the Women Re-Inventing Midlife Summit with Deb Johnstone and Deb gave me permission to share the interview on this podcast. Deb and I chat about the changes that happen to women as they come to mid-life and how important it is to look after your body at this time of life.I believe that if you can reduce your physical symptoms then this reduces your emotional stress and you can look at the world through a brighter lens. It is really difficult to have a positive outlook on life when you are in constant pain, or your body breaks out in a complete sweat every 30 minutes. This is why I help focus women on addressing their physical health first and when they feel better they naturally make better decisions for themselves.Deb is a Life and Career Coach and you can learn more about the work that she does at her website - https://www.debjohnstone.com.au/
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am speaking to Doris Mounsey about her health journey and how that led her to experience medically induced menopause. I often speak about natural menopause but when you have medical conditions or treatments that result in you being in menopause prematurely things can be very different. Women in this situation often experience sudden and severe symptoms as the body has to quickly adjust to the dramatic loss of hormones. This was Doris's experience and she was left feeling lost and alone as the Drs didn't really have any solutions for her.Have a listen to the story that Doris has to share, of how she found a way to manage her symptoms naturally and now helps other women who are on a similar journey to what Doris has been on. You can learn more about Doris on her website - www.dorismounsey.com or on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/YogaKinesiologyWorkshops/You can also read the article that prompted me to have Doris as a guest on the show here - https://instituteforintuitiveintelligence.com/spiritually-fierce-magazine/If you have enjoyed this episode or any of the previous episodes of Wise Women Conversations please leave a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you are listening to this podcast.
This week' episode is another solo one from me and I am talking about having a vision. Now you might wonder what has having a vision have to do with reducing your hot flushes or losing weight. It has everything to do with it.It is quite easy to get stuck in the pain and discomfort of the various symptoms that you are experiencing. I don't want to dismiss the way that you are feeling but if you don't have a vision for how you want to feel it is very hard to make changes. Einstein is quoted as saying "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result." Often women ask me how to 'treat' menopause, my first answer is that you can't 'treat' menopause because it is a natural stage of life. I know that they are often looking for a pill to fix how they are feeling, but a pill won't fix anything it will only mask what is really going on. If you want to feel differently you need to do things differently. It is so much easier to make change if you know what it is that you want rather than trying make things go away. If you spend your life focusing on everything that you don't like about your body and your health, you get stuck in this place. Creating a vision for something is the easiest way to start moving forward.
Our money beliefs can impact so many different areas of our lives including our health and often we are not even aware that this is happening. In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I chat with Money Coach Jane Walters. Jane was a Financial Advisor for many years until she realised that while she was giving her clients the best advice it was their beliefs around money that was stopping them from getting the financial freedom that they desired. Jane then decided to become a coach so that she could help her clients to address their beliefs around money. Many women in midlife were bought up to believe that money doesn't grow on trees and that it was the husband's role to provide financially for the family while the wife raised the children. While this is likely not how we are living our lives today, those belief systems are still embedded somewhere in the sub-conscious mind and might be impacting your financial decisions today. It is not uncommon for women in mid-life to not have enough superannuation to support them for the rest of their life, this means that many women need to work for a lot longer than they might want to. Women are also living longer, so need more money to survive. All of these factors can leave women with very little money and options as they age. This is a fascinating conversation with Jane as she shares some tips to help you to change your beliefs around money so that you can protect yourself financially in the future. To learn more about the work that Jane does or to grab her free workshop to help you to improve your money mindset visit her website - www.janekwalters.com Jane is also on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn was @janekwalters

In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I chat with Beverley Webb from Step Forward Coaching. Beverley had a really tough childhood but she managed to survive and eventually become a very successful business woman. But Beverley hadn't left the trauma of her childhood behind her, it started to show up in her health and also her relationship with her children. After losing everything, including her health, Beverley saw this as the chance to remove the masks that she had been hiding behind and find her voice.Once Beverley healed the trauma of her childhood she knew that she had to help others find their voice as well. As a constant high achiever managed to retrain as a coach in a short time frame so that she could start helping others as soon as she could.Beverley that silence makes the guilt and shame worse, this is why she believes it is her legacy is to use her voice to hep others and she does this every single day with her words and her actions. This was a truly inspiring conversation that I thoroughly enjoyed. To learn more about the work that Beverley does you can visit her website - www.stepforwardcoaching.online, her instagram is @stepforward_tohaveavoice and her facebook is @beverleywebb
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am sharing 3 facebook live recordings that I have done over the past couple of weeks. I was answering some of the common questions that I receive about menopause. The topics that I have included in this episode are 3 of the most common symptoms that women can experience - hot flushes, weight gain and body pain. I share with you what the cause of these symptoms are and what you can do to relieve them. As you listen to each of the topics I think you will start to notice a theme when it comes to the cause and treatment of these different symptoms.
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I continue to share with you how you can balance your chakras using food, essential oils, crystals and meditation. In this episode I cover the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras. The Solar Plexus chakra is all about your gut both physically and emotionally while the Heart chakra is about love and it is also our bridge between our physical and spiritual being. As a bonus I have created an e-book that includes all of the information that I share in these episodes plus more. You can access the e-book by visiting bit.ly/chakra-ebook and completing your details and then I will email the e-book to you.I would love to hear from you over on the Thrive in Menopause facebook page what you have learnt from these episodes and what you are doing to re-balance your chakras, or do you think that this is all a bit too woo woo for you (that's okay if it is).
In this week's episode with Sandy McDonald we talk about the stories of hope, inspiration and connection that we all have. Sandy shares her story from almost bankrupt to creating a world wide movement that has helped 10s of thousands of children in Sth Africa. When Sandy started knitting squares for her Aunt in Sth Africa she never realised the difference she would make and the stories that she would become a custodian of. The international charity that Sandy started continues today without Sandy at the helm but in the very capable hands of a community of knitters around the world.Sandy took her experience and decided to re-write her own story to become the wise woman that she is today. In this conversation Sandy shares:why it is important not to define yourself by a label (job title, mother, wife, daughter etc) rather to see these as experiences, as part of your body of knowledgehow writing your story is a way of unpacking the value that you bring to the worldHer most important message was that your stories don't define your value, you don't need validation from others because your experience is your value. In 2014 Sandy presented at TedX Melbourne where she shared her story, if you would like to watch the video click HEREYou can learn more about the work that Sandy does via her website - http://sandymcdonald.com/

What happens to relationships as you move through your menopause years? For some women it is a time of new beginnings, for others it is a time of endings. In this week's episode of the Wise Women Conversations podcast I chat with Couples Counsellor Iman Iskander. Iman shares the different stages a relationship goes through and what happens if we happen to get stuck at a particular stage of relationship development. We also talk about women who "stay for the kids" and what happens once their kids are older and no longer dependent on them.Relationships with one person for a lifetime can be hard, but are we really supposed to be with the same person for our entire adult life? This is the question that I ask Iman and she shares different research studies that show whether this is a good thing or not. This leads to a conversation about different cultures and how they see relationships and the role of women. This was a great conversation and I am grateful to Iman for share her expertise in this episode, it certainly got me thinking about my relationship. Will I be looking to move to the country and setup a community of only women? Only time will tell, but I do already have the farm in the country!!!If you would like to learn more about the work that Iman does you can visit her website - www.cultureofcare.com.au or follow her on Facebook @Culture of Care.
In this episode I chat to Barbara Brangan all about Human Design. In fact Barbara goes through my Human Design report in detailed. When we recorded this I didn't really have any idea about my Human Design Profile apart from the fact that I was a Projector. You will not only learn a lot about Human Design in this episode you will also learn a lot about me.Aligning with your Human Design is akin to a key that unlocks your self-sabotage and allows you to truly step into fully expressing your Soul's gifts, in life, and in business. Whilst it is relatively new, it is in fact a powerful combination of 7 ancient systems to help you know and trust yourself more. In this conversation, Barbara demystifies what can sometimes be a confusing system, and uses Human Design, as a guide to explain the layers. She describes it as being like the Russian Babuska dolls, you unpack each layer to find the hidden treasures inside of you.You can grab your own free personalised Human Design Report by visiting - www.barbarabrangan.com/humandesign.
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I share with you how you can take control of your health and boost your immunity using food, sleep, exercise, fresh air and reducing stress. It all seems fairly straightforward so why do so many people get sick every year with a cold, flu or some other virus? As I record this episode it is Easter weekend and most of the world is under stay at home orders to try to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Understanding that this instruction has been given to stop the spread of this virus, why are we not being told how to prevent catching this virus apart from staying away from others and washing our hands? I would think that educating people on how to strengthen their immune system would go a long way to stopping the spread of this virus or any other virus that might be going around. So in this episode I share some ideas about food, sleep, stress and more. As well as explain why high levels of stress is the biggest threat to having a healthy immune system. In this episode I mention some previous podcasts - Stress #28, Personalised Health #30 and Sleep #35.If you want to be a part of the Global Immune Protocol and Health @ Home Series you can register at https://angelacounsel.com/free-resources/
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am have a chat with Melissa Turnock who shares her journey from being a child who was afraid to speak out. To a woman who had breast cancer and now is a strong woman who teaches others how to truly embody their body, their emotions and their life. Melissa shares how she believes that her cancer journey was a message from her body to stop, to listen and to heal the wounds of her childhood. The lessons that Melissa learnt allows her to truly hold space for other women who have traumas to heal.Melissa uses a technique called TRE which is a emotional release from the body. She shows women how to access their body wisdom, to release any self-imposed limitations and helps them choose a new path. This conversation takes many twists and turns and I truly loved the wisdom that Melissa shared. To learn more about Melissa you can visit her website www.melissaturnock.com where you can access a free Heart Centre Activation & Embodiment Journey. Melissa is also on Instagram - @melissa_bodywisdom and Facebook - @melissabodywisdom.
Earlier this week I was asked by Chantal Vanderhaeghan to share with her community how you can boost your immune system. As often happens when I chat with Chantal this conversation went in many different directions. I spoke about how people experience stress differently and why there is no single way for everyone to reduce their stress. At the end of the conversation I did share some specific foods that will help to boost your immune system along with a free personalised 10 day Immune Booster program that is available by going to the Work With Me page on my website.
In this week's Wise Women Conversation with Lisa Fitzpatrick we go on a journey to find your inner wise woman. Lisa shares a time when she was looking for a wise woman to guide her through a troubling time in her life, but she couldn't find anyone. This led her on her on journey of discovery and now she works with women to help them to connect to their internal guidance system. In this conversation we discuss breaking the rules that we have been taught by the dominant patriarchal society that has kept women trapped for many generations. And yes there is a discussion around witches, in fact it was a question about witches that first attracted me to Lisa and why I wanted to have her as a guest on the podcast. As we uncover what it is to be a wise woman Lisa shares that wise women are comfortable with the mystery of life whereas before finding our wisdom we often are looking for certainty and control. She shares how our wisdom comes from deep within our wombspace and how we can connect to our own womb. In this current world where chaos appears to be the dominant force, healing of the world will come from our feminine energy. Once women are able to re-connect to their physical, emotional and spiritual energies there will be a healing power that re-balance a world that seems to be spiralling out of control. This is an episode that might need a couple of listens, we go deep in some places. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and it isn't often that I get to have such a open conversation with someone who is on a similar wavelength to me. If some of what we speak about is a little difficult to grasp, please be gentle on yourself and know that the more you listen the more you will understand. If you would like to connect with Lisa, her website and social media links are:http://www.lisafitzpatrick.com.au/http://www.facebook.com/thenewfeminineleaderhttp://www.instagram.com/sacredwomensbusinessWhen you visit Lisa's website you can access a free video e-course called "5 Steps to a Feminine Shift for more time, ease and money."If you are interested in learning more about connecting to your inner wisdom and creating the life that you want to live, why not join me for the upcoming Journey to You Retreat which is being held 7-9th May at Kondalilla Eco Resort on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Queensland. This week's episode of Wise Women Conversations is another solo episode from Angela where she discusses the power of taking a pause. With everyone living very busy lives we often forget to stop and slow down. Business is often worn with pride like a badge of honour and we can think if we are not busy all of the time that we are not being successful at life. A few years ago stress was the badge of honour until we realised that long term stress was impacting our health and well-being. We don't need to add more to our already busy schedules, in fact most of us could benefit from doing less. Angela invites you to make a list of everything that you do and then consider why you are doing the things you are doing. Do they bring you joy or are you doing them because you think you should or have to? Start getting rid of the should and have to items and enjoy some free time doing nothing.Share in the comments how you are becoming less busy.
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I am chatting to Claire McFee about decluttering and how she used decluttering tools to recognise what was happening in her health. Claire had been diagnosed with depression and was told that the only thing should could do was to go on anti-depressants. This wasn't what Claire wanted to do so she started to track her symptoms and over time realised that there was a pattern and it matched to her menstrual cycle. Claire then went on a journey to get healthy and to re-connect to her intuition.Claire is now a Women's Spiritual Mentor and she beautifully guides women to listen to their intuition. In this conversation we go down many different paths, from hormones to rebuilding her relationship with her husband. This was a beautiful conversation with a beautiful woman, have a listen and let me know what you learnt from Claire. If you would like to learn more about the work that Claire does you can find her on all social media as well as via her website www.clairemcfee.com
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I share a bit of my background and why I do what I do. I am passionate about women understanding their body's and how hormonal changes can impact the way that they feel. I believe that the more we speak about all of the stage of menopause the less women will fear this stage of life. This is the time when women get the opportunity to re-discover themselves and to step into their wise years. It doesn't have to be a time of suffering and limitations. If you would like to be a part of the next round of my embrace program where I guide women through this mid-stage of life then pop over to bit.ly/embrace-online to learn more. Be quick because the next round kicks off very soon.

In this week's Wise Women Conversations I chat with Lynda Dyer (Coach, Speaker, Author of 11 best selling books and NLP Master Trainer) about the mindset around ageing. I have often said that we live in an ageist society where youth is idolised and older women often find themselves feeling invisible and unworthy. But is it just society that has this type of beliefs, what about our personal and family beliefs around growing older? Lynda has written a book called Age is an Attitude and she shares how we can change our own experience of growing older by changing our attitude to ageing. Lynda also shares some of the research that has been done by Mario Martinez, a clinical neuropsychologist who lectures worldwide on how cultural beliefs affect health and longevity. Lynda's key message which she shares at the end of the podcast is to let go of everything that doesn't serve you. To learn more about the work that Lynda does or to check out her books visit - http://mindpowerglobal.com.au/Please share on Instagram or Facebook (please tag me - @angelacounsel) what your biggest take away from this conversation was. Is there anything that you will be implementing in your life to change your mindset around ageing.
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I chat with Jennifer Forster who is the author of the book "The Power of a Peaceful Woman - 49 Ways to Drop the Armour and Defuse the Drama". I loved this conversation with Jen as she shared the story of when her life fell apart and a wise woman came along and helped her to find herself again. You will have to listen to the episode to hear the twist to the story which had me in tears. Jen talks about being aware of what is happening in your life, accepting what is, being aware of what you can and can't control and finally actualisation. These are the four topics in Jen's book in which she shares tools and stories of how you can drop your armour and stop living in your drama. Learn, unlearn and relearn - these were the words that Jen used to describe how she lives her life every day. She follows her heart as often as she can and she finds that opportunities come to her with ease when she does this. You can learn more about Jen and grab a copy of her book from her website www.jenniferforster.com or follow her on Facebook and Instagram - @jenniferforster

Angela describes the steps like a set of balancing stones, they all stack on top of each other and if one it not balanced properly the whole stack can fall. The 7 steps are - Foundations (values & vision), Physical, Emotional, Social, Creative, Spiritual and Connected Self. Each of these steps breaks down into smaller steps. One of the key points that Angela discusses is the need to have a personalised solution, this is because every woman is different and every woman's experience of menopause is different.
