Have you ever looked closely at a Christmas nativity scene? You see a familiar cast of characters: Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus in the middle, shepherds on the left, and three wise men next to the camels. This Christmas, we're asking ourselves: Who were those wise men, really? What did they know about Jesus that we long to understand? In Liquid Church's 2021 Christmas Eve experience, Pastor Tim Lucas shares an inspiring Christmas message about the wondrous moment when God entered our world. Together, we explore the perspective of the wise men who traveled a thousand miles following a mysterious star, all to present three special gifts to a baby born as the King of the World. We pray this family-friendly Christmas experience will fill you and your loved ones with the peace and joy of the Christmas season! At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus over 2,000 years ago. This momentous occasion was announced by angels, attended by shepherds, and acknowledged by 3 Wise Men who honored Jesus with gifts. In this message from Liquid Church's Christmas series, The Gift, Pastor Kayra Montanez reflects on the symbolic meaning of the third gift of the Wise Men: Myrrh for Jesus, the suffering servant. Back in Jesus' day, Myrrh was commonly used as an embalming fluid, which is something that was used to treat dead bodies. This is obviously a strange gift to give to a baby - so what is the significance? The truth is, the gift of myrrh foretold that Jesus would be a suffering servant, a baby born with the destiny to die for the sins of the world. This holiday season, whatever troubles or hardships you face, Jesus can relate. We pray that you'll be drawn to surrender your spirit to Jesus in worship for our suffering servant and savior. At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus over 2,000 years ago. This momentous occasion was announced by angels, attended by shepherds, and acknowledged by 3 Wise Men who honored Jesus with gifts. In this message from Liquid Church's Christmas series, The Gift, Pastor Tim Lucas reflects on the symbolic meaning of frankincense, which is one of the three gifts of the wisemen brought to Jesus knowing he would be the great High Priest. Why bring a baby frankincense? This gift was actually used in the Old Testament days of the Bible to create fragrant incense. Priests would burn frankincense as an offering to God. The sweet-smelling smoke would rise like it was rising up to Heaven, symbolizing the prayers of God's people rising up to God's throne. It's a beautiful image that paints a prophetic picture of who Jesus would be: Our great High Priest who intercedes for His people before God the Father. With Jesus as our High Priest, we can now approach the throne of God as holy and blameless, pure in God our Father's sight. This holiday season, you may feel unworthy, weak or far from God. However, we pray that you'll be drawn to worship Jesus, your High Priest, and boldly approach the throne of God because of the great joy of knowing what He did for you. In this message from Liquid Church's Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series, Pastor Tim Lucas shares 5 tips to help you learn how to resolve conflict in an emotionally healthy, spiritually mature way. The problem is, a lot of people expect that becoming emotionally mature is natural and just happens over time. The reality is, it takes intentional work to mature out of emotional immaturity and into a mature, healthy way of processing and handling our emotions. Pastor Tim shares that one of the key ways to become an emotionally mature adult is to learn how to resolve conflict in a healthy and Biblically sound way. God's word provides so much wisdom to help us resolve conflict with those around us - whether it be your family, friends, colleagues or otherwise. On the Cross, Jesus broke down the wall of fear and hostility to build a bridge to us and repair our relationship with God. Now, God calls you to do that with others. Do you find yourself burning the candle at both ends? In an American culture of workaholism and passionate drive for success, developing a rhythm of rest is more important than ever. With burnout on the rise, people are coming out of 2020 and going through 2021 feeling overworked, overstressed, and overscheduled. In this message from Liquid Church's Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series, Pastor Kayra Montanez shares the importance of a Biblical Sabbath, which is God's plan for His children to develop rhythms of rest. Pastor Kayra defines a true, Biblical Sabbath as a 24 hour block of time when you stop both paid and unpaid work to rest, delight in God and contemplate His love for you. The truth is, it's hard to intentionally develop these rhythms of rest when you feel like you're constantly just trying to keep up. So, start by designating a day of the week and setting clear boundaries around your Sabbath. Then, make a list of what energizes your soul and do more of that! Stop striving and worship with a heart of gratitude. As you develop rhythms of rest, we pray that you'll be encouraged to know that even when you get nothing productive done in a day, you are utterly adored by the God of the Universe! There's also catastrophic feelings of loss when someone we love dies or a relationship ends. The truth is, grief and loss seem to come out of nowhere and interrupt our everyday lives. But the good news is, as Christians we can look to the example of Jesus to learn how to deal with grief and loss in a spiritually healthy way. In this message from Liquid Church's Emotionally Healthy Spirituality series, Pastor Tim Lucas shares an example filled with hope from the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis. Joseph experienced three major traumas in his life that impacted him deeply. You need to know yourself - and who you were created by God to be - so that you may truly know God. When you take time to listen to God through prayer, silence, and reading the Scriptures, you develop a better sense of your identity as God's beloved child. In this message, we look to the example of King David in 1 Samuel 17. In the Gospel of Mark, we see Jesus has an intense, emotional reaction when in Jerusalem for the Jewish festival of Passover. See, in Jesus' day, the Temple was the place where Jewish people could come to be close to God and worship Him. However, instead of being a center for religious life, the Temple had become corrupt; It became a shopping mall where people were exchanging money and bargaining with each other. This is why Jesus had righteous anger - and it even triggered Him to overturn tables! In this message from Liquid Church, Pastor Tim Lucas asks us to make this Bible lesson personal: What tables need overturning in our own lives? What is distracting you from getting close to God and worshipping Him with your whole heart? This display of Jesus' righteous anger shows us that he cared enough about our faith to clear a path for all to be with God. In the Gospel of Luke, we see Jesus tell his followers this: “The Harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the Harvest, therefore, to send out his workers into the field.” Jesus wasn't a farmer, but he uses a farming analogy to tell his disciples, or ministry partners, that there are not enough people to do the work of the Kingdom. But instead of asking his disciples to work harder and take no breaks, he tells them that they should ask God through prayer to send out workers and volunteers to share the good news of the Gospel. At Liquid Church, we know ministry is best done in teams. Christianity is not a solo sport, and life is actually better in community. The truth is, your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts, and you can't have a positive life when you have a negative mind. In this message from part 4 of Liquid Church's series, Mastermind, Pastor Kayra Montanez highlights how to have peace of mind by sharing the neuroscience at work and the spiritual ways God gives His children peace of mind. We turn to the words of wisdom the Apostle Paul shares with us in Philippians 4:7 to find that prayer should be our first defense when it comes to fighting for a peaceful thought life. Even when Paul was locked in a Roman prison, Paul knew that it is possible to have peace of mind that comes from God despite whatever life circumstances we find ourselves in. Whatever is keeping you from having peace of mind today, remember this: If it's big enough to worry about, it's big enough to pray about. It's all about your frame of mind. If you look at life through a negative filter, you'll always see the worst. But, if you take captive your thoughts like the Apostle Paul calls Christians to do, you can start looking at life through the perspective of Christ. This is called reframing. But how exactly do you change your frame of mind when it comes naturally to you? In this message from part 3 of Liquid Church's series, Mastermind, Pastor Tim Lucas highlights 3 practical steps we can take to reframe our relationships and challenging situations in life. In order to look at our circumstances with a Gospel perspective, we'll need to start by thanking God for what didn't happen. The truth is, some of God's greatest gifts can be unanswered prayers! We can practice pre-framing, too, which is deciding how you'll look at a situation in advance, before you even enter the situation at hand. Finally, look for God's goodness right where you are. Do you feel like your passion for life has been stolen? Or has your passion for God and the cause of Christ faded? The truth is, the last year and a half took a lot out of us. When passion flees, that's because passion is more of an emotional response that usually occurs when something is new or exciting. Zeal, on the other hand, is more of an energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of something meaningful, like a great cause or important objective. What passion neglects, zeal protects. In this message from part 5 of Liquid Church's series, Renovate, guest Pastor Stephen Francis reflects on what happens after Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem after rebuilding the city's walls. Upon his return, Nehemiah found that the temple of God had been neglected, and the people of Jerusalem had lost their spiritual fervor for the Lord. If you feel like your spiritual passion for God has disappeared, we pray this message from Pastor Stephen Francis will help you develop a zeal for God that does not fade. If that’s you, then you’ll be encouraged to know that God actually PREFERS to use broken people. When we’re broken, God gets the glory… and the world gets to see the beauty and love of Jesus in a new light! In this message from Liquid Church’s 2020 Christmas Eve services, Pastor Tim Lucas shares about the beauty of our brokenness found in 2 Corinthians 4 in the New Testament of the Bible. In this passage, the apostle Paul shares how we can have an unbreakable faith that sustains us through difficult and dangerous times. If you long to learn how God could use you in your brokenness, listen to this message for biblical encouragement and real-life examples of God’s redemption of broken people.
