This week, the Scalosians fight to survive by **checks notes** freezing the Enterprise. Also, Anakin and Obi-Wan lift a bunch of rocks! Kenny brings up Ahsoka's role as caretaker in this week's episode of Clone Wars. And Aspen just really vibes with Wink of an Eye.__________________________________Get early, extended episodes on our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/trekwarspodWatch us! https://www.youtube.com/@trekwarspodTheme by Tosin AwofesoSocial Media:https://www.instagram.com/trekwarspodhttps://bsky.app/profile/trekwarspod.bsky.socialWant to ask us questions? This week Dan and Dana discuss "Wink of an Eye." They guys add to the dead crewman count, talk about Deela's dress (or lack thereof) and Rael's costume, and marvel at one of the best special effects in the whole series. Dan also hypothesizes that Kirk is doing his best to seed the whole galaxy... We'd love to hear from you! Call the Damnit Jim Hotline at 509-676-6298. Vicky actually gets really extremely close on this one I watched about sorry we are late but things are not work in our favor
The Enterprise responds to a distress call from the planet Scalos, only to arrive and find that its inhabitants have died off with no survivors. But in fact, a few Scalosians have survived and are living at such a highly accelerated rate that they move “in the wink of an eye.” Their plan: to bring Captain Kirk up to their speed in an effort to help repopulate their species while leaving the Enterprise in a deep freeze until the rest of its crew can be called upon to do the same. “Wink of an Eye” may not make any sense on a scientific level, but if you shut off your mind and just go with it, it fits the bill as an entertaining- enough “Star Trek” episode, especially by late 3rd Season standards. In this episode of Trekking Through Compliance, we consider the episode Wink of an Eye which aired on November 29, 1968, and occurred on Star Date 5710.5 While exploring an outer quadrant of the Galaxy, the Enterprise receives a distress call from the planet Scalos. However, a landing party cannot locate the transmission's source. Kirk thinks he detects the buzzing of insects, but the tricorder does not register them. Queer goings-on follows when Compton disappears right in front of McCoy. After their return to the Enterprise, malfunctions occur aboard the ship, which cannot be explained. Kirk correctly concludes that aliens have been beamed aboard. Spock detects an alien machine being installed into the environmental control, but when Spock attempts to disconnect the machine, he is prevented by a force field. Kirk then disappears. Kirk makes a tape for Spock in which he explains all this. McCoy discovers the tape, and Spock reads it by greatly slowing it down. Spock then speeds himself up, and the Scalosians are returned to their planet to live out the rest of their lives, recognizing that the Federation will not permit any more Starships to enter the area. Wink of an Eye was the eleventh episode of Star Trek's third season to air, with Kirk accelerated beyond human perception by an alien queen anxious to breed. In this episode Gerry and Iain discuss fast love and fast times. Responding to a distress call, Kirk, McCoy, Spock and a redshirt visit the planet Scalos. When the redshirt vanishes after drinking local water, the team retreats to the Enterprise, but with a few surprise guests. The Scalosian queen, Deela (Kathie Browne), has identified Kirk as the man to help her extend the lifespan of her species, despite the jealousy of her compatriot Rael (Jason Evers). Kirk, meanwhile, looks for a way to slow things down a bit. Wink of an Eye was directed by Jud Taylor, the second of his five Star Trek episodes. The writer was Arthur Heinemann, the first of his three third season episodes. In this episode Gerry and Iain considered the value of more speed and less haste. The Original Series continues its problematic relationship with female guests stars this week. In “The Empath”, the show manages to one-up that treatment and give us a female character with literally no personality. Oh, ...
